Close work in the first chest, the flagship podcast of USB c it's finally here. The USB c ponds are here in force. I heard so many of them today, including from this group of people.
Hi, am your friend. Ni am back. After several weeks of dumping on the show, I hope you'll have me.
We were all the apple event today dancer for here. Hello, this song is here. Hi, elson Johnson, here.
hello. We did that. We went to an apple event, Steve jobs theatre. We start new iphones and new apple watches and nothing else.
Well, we did watch a video.
We watch video before we get into the apple vent. That's we're going to talk on the entire show today because we are all just we played the new iphones, new apple lunches. I would say this day Marks the beginning of just a blockers fall tax season.
So september is full, october is fall. The end of september is the code conference for me that that just is the bomb in the midst of my calendar. But there is this apple event, there's the amazon event, there's a microsoft event.
there's a google event.
forgot there's a matter event, just it's all happening.
There's also a one plus event. There's a cocom event.
I loves a qualm event. Does the quite is like five right? Love five g on the beach.
baby.
you love IT. We've patent mode. You can anything you want just pay us the money and they make everybody go to say.
yes, modems. They like .
that just like literally every week, so much so that we made calendar. You can subscribe to on our website. I'll just give you alerts and you can just like come look at events as this month goes on.
It's the older school. We're like, how do we make calendars? I can. I did IT.
So just a bonkers month, including today, the ana trust trial of our lives are kicked off. U. S.
Versus google, illegal monopoly claims about the search engine. And ominous, the parallel is to U. S. Forces, microsoft, twenty five years ago, which.
to be clear, I was a life for.
I thank you over.
I know, I hope I just want to say, like, is this the trial of our lives? IT could be or IT was microsoft.
So the end of the micros I created, google, created the opportunity for google losses. I whatever that all happened, it's all the past. Ali roberson was in the courthouse SE today listening to opening arguments and immediately got very technical.
What is a search engine? A real question our government is currently grappling with, uh, we will have added on the show on friday, obviously very interested in this. We need to focus on apple today, but just a Bakers month has kicked off with this apple event and with this google trial.
Google trial there is for ten weeks, so we will be died for next two half months. But I can talk today, we're to talk with apple. Dede.
yes, yeah.
No one wants .
to find what the search.
I have a lot of what this what we were talking about on, right? It's like this apple event. We were all recently here for apple vision pro. The vibe that one word excited they were there was that kind of on edge, like they didn't know how would go. There is a lot of expectations that he built a big structure, the middle of campus, and we had to go to IT.
And there is like new age music playing in the new, ascended in the headset, whatever you know, is that thing? Where is like, everyone wanted to know how would go? There was just a lot of curiosity in every direction. This event was .
not that we kind of knew .
what was going to IT was an iphone. We know how to cover new iphone.
Yeah, we have one of you, right?
There was just like an element of this who was like, he was coffee like, just like back home, you know. So the vibes, I think we're just like different because of that. And even to me, apple like started off by saying, like this is our biggest event of the year. And it's like.
really I don't want to say I was chill, but I feel like I was chill in a way that i'm Normally not for these answer just like, okay, I can go into the auto v mode where it's just like, I know what i'm doing, i'm gonna freak out. I'm not on auto pilot but like there's no like, oh my god, like last year when they called that the ultra, I was like, oh my god, I have to do so many find and replaces in this moment my to rest levels are through the roof. This was like, no chill and cool gone on and they .
had to in the sea jobs, the area which is like an easy place to kind, like do this work.
It's very comfortable.
It's complete. That revived this vent or coffee. Who was a video event again? Which economy sad? I was hoping that they would come out on stage and actually do IT.
We all watch the video together again. The point of this is actually us holding the phones in devices at the end, not the presentation, but it's really weird. Be just washing TV with like a bunch of people and dancing next we taking pictures of the TV.
It's a very odd experience. It's to spend an hour a half taking photos of A T.
V.
It's a nice TV. It's a very nice TV. IT opened with a video of people sobbing the birthday, and IT was revealed that all the people, the video had their life saved by an apple device. Fine, this is great. I'm happy all these people in life, i'm dying to know if apple stage of those birthday parties .
had to have been. The angles were too. Chris.
he washed and, you know, hear, like at some point, the richest company in earth descended on this person. Here's what we'd like to do. We'd like you to have a birthday party.
I have three kids. We have a lot of birthday parties. I've taken photos and video at a lot of birthday parties.
And they never go that smoothly. Yeah that they came out with the cakes, with the candles. Everyone had remember to turn off the lights and didn't .
turn them back on the way up the morning.
And i'll tell you one little side. Weird story. I got a lot dumb, smart home stuff in my house, including like motion sensors. And what happens is every time we go to like singing, happy birthday will turn off the lights and then two words into happy birthday, the lights come back and fun. So we with the lighting, none of this happened in apple d's birthday parties.
Just saying that all beautiful. I was just like watching this. And again, I think it's great that the features are helping people, people apples. I was severe proud this. I was just watching this ad as like they had they had to do this like there were like a lot of cameras up in the sweep and and like fuel emotions IT was just a weird way also to enter this event from .
they had to produce IT in a timespan and um I don't know if you do all know this, but not everyone has the same birthday at the same time. So i'm guessing that a lot of you .
are I have the most questions about the birthday party with almost any new product here like I don't there will get to have one big question on the F M. Fishing pro. It's huge. But the birthday party, that is, the more you consider IT, the more like the production of this had to have been so weird. I think if you .
think about you always do at once for safety to when you do any video like that's like the kind of hind the scene thing. So you have to have someone like this cake multiple times and bring IT out.
Do IT again to do you? Do you like, I blow these candles like, he said that for real. That was well, SHE.
Anyway, I was like the opening of IT in the tim cook. Like, I want to give you the vision pro, which they just announce. We're on track.
The developers love IT. I don't know what else you would have said. Developers are deeply confused to about our new product. We're excited about. The things we're seeing is on track to ship early next year.
That's IT.
and that's all we got for vision pro. There are some stuff for the iphone. The pros can shoot special video for vision pro, some stuff with airports, which we will get to. That was all the updates on on the mac and vision pro. The mac updates was like, they are great.
People love the mac yeah no.
like we continue manufacturer macintosh. And then the other just other video that we talk about before talking about the products, they did a big skit in the middle of the apple launch segment with our tvs. Penser, who was a great actresses in the skin, was funny.
although he was Cindy. But funny.
yeah, he was, was well done, if you like, that sort of thing about apple's environmental efforts. We've announced lot of stuff. This is just my way.
Used to run the E. P. A. She's the VP of environment there. The serious line has recycled come out in the battery.
The sport loop is eighty two percent recycled yarn, the manufacturing carbon neutral on and on and on. There's whole list. And they announce that the apple watches its first carbon neural product with a logo on the side. If you buy a certain bands.
yes, IT has to be specific bans.
The ocean band will instantly harm the ocean.
That Floral estimate it's not it's not biodegrade. Yeah.
the video was IT was fun. It's like this is if you're going na announce a litta of environmental accomplishments, that's like the best way to do IT like he was worth paying attention to. But I was also just like there is no reference frame for anything they were saying. Other companies plant trees, we plant forest. And like this google plant, I don't know.
but they I was like, okay, this is a clever way to stay all this and like, keep us engaged. But then they went in, like repeated everything that was set in the video, in like a less funny, serious way. After that, I was like.
it's also weird because I felt like the whole premise of the video was skepticism and then answering that skepticism. So obviously, if you know anything about the environment, like, okay, how much this is Green washing? Half of us have watched johna over talk about like credits and why those aren't like real things.
But they are like, no, we have the answers here. Mother nature is like, kind of happy with our answers. We're going to have this really funny stare down that is, I don't know, IT was funny.
I just don't know like, you know, you're supposed to have tim cook in this video and I was like, you know what? Tim cook can act he can act like he's afraid of Octavia penser, uh and like. As if he's on the spot. But at the same time, you know back in your head that apple is just doing that, the kind of head .
off the criticism for me an e so like, I mean, this is his greatest accomplishment is like china trump politics like he navigated apple card.
He is a good actor but I was just IT was it's worth talking about like that was a long video in the middle this event, like really long and I think IT speaks to sort again just the general vibe of the whole show was like we have a lot of time to bring out A T, B, S sensor and to a kid about the environment like a long time. Yeah, I just want I wanted to start with that stuff because I think you understand that stuff. I think he puts the products in the context because the products themselves are inherently in like meaningful ways. I think they're good, that they seem cool. And again, big question of fifteen pro, which will get to the there is a mystery in the iphone fifteen, privation and successful, but the vibe of the event was like we .
have enough time to .
do comedy to talk about the fence iphone fifteen or the iphone fourteen pyo remix yes.
the iphone fourteen pro two yeah.
but not quite too. It's yeah, it's quite yeah. It's missing a camera in some stuff.
Yeah, missing some promotion. But basically IT is just like last year's iphone fourteen was a remix of the thirteen pro. The fifteen is a remix or a relay.
Aging is probably Better way to of the fourteen proof last year. So you get forty eight, make a pixel camera, you get the dynamic island, what else? Sly, the sixteen processor.
Yeah, they did update the screens a little bit brighter. And of course, they added a USB c port, which was not a masterson's. That's like the new thing. And they rounded the decides a little more comfortable, the whole and the the glasses math.
Now what do you think of? Yeah, IT feels like last year was very much like a skip, the upgrade year. And this is the one that, like my husband blessing, is still holding on the iphone ten r.
And like this would be the one like there are enough things here that are different. You're onna get the dynamic island which like every I don't know APP developers going to consider going forward. So yeah, it's it's not exciting. It's like we've seen all this before, but it's just the right IT seems like a smart kind of like packaging of everything.
I I just don't know if apples ever going to make this phone, whether the phone fifteen, sixteen, seventeen or whatever. Exciting, right? yeah.
Like it's it's never going to be the one where they really introduced new stuff to. It's never going to be the one where they are pushing the evel about anything. But IT is the mainstream one that most people will buy or a lot of people will buy at least. And if you've had a phone like the tennis or the tenor, what other than eleven and you're upgrading now for five years later, I will be a meaningful upgrade for you. But it's hard to get excited about IT because we saw so much.
Are you telling me that you are not just about color injected class?
I wasn't atomic level, Daniel.
The glass felt nice. My main take away from touching these phones today is they felt nice.
They felt really .
like the even the pro models and the regular models less so. But they for the past three years, we've been so heavy and the edges are sharp and like the steam is still is nice, but it's like it's kind of sticky and shows your finger prints itself. These you pick up and they just feel soft and they feel nice in your hand.
We did we ran into some people there who said that made them feel cheap, which is.
yes, they didn't have the perceived value because IT wasn't as heavy and I was like a little little phone, but you know, they rounded at the corner of the edges of the frame is still aluminum with the iphone fifteen, but IT IT is nice to hold in the the glass is a soft mac glass in my experience that makes things slippery.
So we'll see how that goes.
I mean, if you use a .
case in auto sty, big news here is they and say i've found fourteen pro minus that's that's kind of thing about this one. Ah you you're losing a camera, you're losing the zoom camera because you get the main camera in the fourteen process a forty the pixel been kind of an interesting way where there are in twenty four megaplex es. By default, you can switch IT to twelve in the settings which is interesting.
Then you can crop IT in different ways to get two x and then they've changed portrait mode, which seems like a big deal. But I also, so much of the hands on area is just panic, but like beautifully lit panic. You know what? That looks fine, like the light of heaven upon me. Everything looks good in this, but they are capturing the depth map when you take a photo now, and you can go to portrait later, which school.
and you can change the focus point later, which is like, isn't that dream of later?
Digital baby.
yeah no yeah. In tiny years since we have been covering the if you don't know that litter is lighter a as you can go look at on the verge from a million years ago, they shipped a whole camera with like fifty lens is on the front.
Well no, the the lighter that let you change the focus point was that weird rectangular thing with one land. And IT allowed you, after the fact, to choose different focus points, which is this, what the iphones long you do? Now what you're thinking of is the light phone or the light camera that had the the spiders si array of .
ick checking and checking .
but yeah that yeah which also, I believe tried to accomplish a similar thing. But liro was first. Yeah, the problem with the litter was eight to terrible photos. B IT was expensive and see, like you could do anything with those photos. yeah.
D mat, right?
There was a weird for the only thing. I mean, I think the whole reason that existed was to like trying get that technology into other things and solo to be your companies.
But I kind of felt so David pears are light to view, and elves so broken now is not .
even where .
look at up, uh, eleven years ago, we recovered a camera that could refocus the new porter. I can just do IT, I will say day and I were playing with IT at the event, got a little confused sometimes, but again, it's even and there's like nine hundred faces like it's not a fair tested.
I think I think the feature of the the main thing that I think people would get from this is the ability to make a non porter photo portrait, yes, to the fact. And so like so many times, like, and I think of my wife take photos for kids. SHE is the Normal camera old and and I I always like switched to portrait or whatever.
But SHE never does that switch over. But now if he doesn't do the switch, hover doesn't matter. Captured the data. And I can like turn on the .
porter mode after the fact. Yes, IT is unclear whether get live photos, yes, at the same time as the portraits ture .
to follow up with.
So again, lots of questions there. But basically, you've got what should be the fourteen pro camera. I was shocked. I was meaningfully different.
I don't know that it's the exacting camera sensor. It's the same resolution that we know yeah and you .
get the two times lossless crop, right? Because you can you .
can go into the center of the sensor. And then the binning, as you were saying earlier, is kind of doing a unique thing. What's going to twenty four megaplex es as supposed to Normally? And what the iphone is one in the past with the pro max or the fourteen pro, uh, is IT just takes four of the forty eight megaplex es and turns into one which produces a twelve megaplex limit. Ah, so this twenty four is kind of a strange way to do IT. Like i'm not sure how they're calculate the data there, but IT does give you a meaningfully more resolution without like blowing up your storage.
Does anyone need twenty four megaplex was like on the .
regular like people zo.
rob all the I think this is why my my opinion .
on on phone cameras is that telephoto is always more useful than ultrawise because i'd watch people go like this with their phones and then pinch zoo .
s and they .
take four pixel and snap that photo.
P.
yeah. Like, I see them do that all the time. And then the ultrawise is like, oh, cool. We got this really cool architecture shades. Like, I mean, it's good for like getting a group of people.
I ve you are not watching .
the most how you take a band photo .
where you you the .
tiktok photographers and always like flip your camera upside down, get really down and then put IT into ultra wide and then you have like this I don't know this insane really what you're .
saying is to no matter what, people will find a way to make a great camera look like shit. Yes, do no matter what. Interestingly, we there are some modes in this camera that are new so you can shoot forty eight magpie el pro, you can shoot twenty four, you can shot twelve, and then you can shoot forty eight mega pixel compressed in apples format, which they revealed that as a company they pronounced heef ef.
So H, I F, which I get why you would had towards heef but they said IT on stage and then they were all saying, IT, it's wit. Like, the iphones are shot in a chip time. This is the first time of for anybody call IT heap is deeply confusing. And like, this is what .
we've been calling. I think we need to have verge castle stennis call in or hit up any line online and say, how do you pronounce hef and do you say heave?
No one has heave. People say, i'm so pushing the button as maximum combatted ability and shooting. And jai g, that's what .
everybody says. They say, what is this and why doesn't IT work?
Yeah anywhere but it's I think it's fast. They are they're letting consumers and iphone fifteen shoot forty eight megaplex el compressed photos, which I have no idea how these are going to look yeah just none at all. Again, in the in the demo area with beautiful light, like some of the most beautiful light i've ever seen in any room, isn't that looks great? Very curious. I will look anywhere else. And then it's also fast and consumer shoot forty Opera, which they shouldn't do from from everything I know very few people should do this is anything else catch up at this camera?
I don't know. I think like I think the two times crops zone makes the last sense here because you don't have the telephoto and you're kind of like. Getting something for like two lenses for the Price of wine and then when on a phone were already I have a three times lands, is really, bill, what was the point of this?
So yeah, having having the big one move up to five times make sense. And then having this two times option is nice. For portraits, you get portrait mode. So that's what i'm just about.
And then there's the thing, they switch support to U. S, B, C.
But at USB two point of speeds .
very forever.
they took forever to get to that. I felt everybody was waiting for you.
And it's like OK.
They did IT in two parts. I said, let's talk about connectivity and they said, let's start with wireless and you can the whole room was like, no, to care. You take about five g again.
You're going to do this this again, but that so usc know the word from apple basically is like the europeans need to do IT. But it's time and we think people aren't to freak out. To be clear, there was applause in this room.
I mean, for this awesome. Yes, this room for of apple's employees clapped for apple announcement.
but there are some influencers there. Inside basement is journalists. We are not supposed to clap.
So there's it's like a big thing ah because people assume the rumor of media and they hear the clamping. It's like the media's clappy. It's like, no, we're sitting on our hands.
We're trying to type yeah.
we're like typing as as we can. It's like apple employees, their partners in some people who don't have to play the same meals, but they clap, they come for I cloud storage increasing in the six and twelve abodes.
And who needs that much? Who needs twelve? terrible.
Its Candy crush. Wales I don't i'm just guessing. I don't .
know because I I I have the played where it's too terrible. Its and you know I I feel for all my friends.
I share IT with six of my friends.
I I am and I use most and we still have like one point five times.
If you go buy an iphone fifteen and take forty eight two pro images, you will shook up that .
what I know every professional was dying to do is have their phone instantly and immediately shoke their band without they're forty eight, eight big. So stiles to eye claud. But so us, we see, we did IT.
We just did the same thing I said, we're tired. We see. Do something in great. They added IT to the phone. The vie very much was like, well, we had to do IT, but we think it's going to be fine. And no further discussion was had no.
yeah, they moved on pretty quickly.
There is that was .
a twenty dollars twenty nine and vert to be absolutely. Why want to do this when you can buy an apple branded USB c cable for fifty dollars is beyond me. But milland, I were trying to figure why you would buy this earlier today. Maybe have a lightning cessile what like?
Cesari don't know, because it's a cable. So like the out yeah the out because you see your phone that we flopping. It's not even along. It's just a little. It's just .
like the U S B A to U S B C dung le lightning.
you so loppy your phone going flop right out of your dog. So that's not IT. My answer was built in lightning cables and cars, which I don't .
think everything which .
they also believe that they exist, but some things have built in lighting cables yeah some really weird.
obscure accessories that like four people bought .
yeah and now those people have to pay twenty dollars the our age um in general I thing is like a great move like I don't I think apple held out. I think the europeans .
made him do IT I will say um I was thinking about this because last week the show I said I really don't pluggin my phone for anything. This is not to impact me much at all. I use why was charging but the one time I do plug my phone in is one i'm in the car and I use car play and i'm going to upgrade my phone and have a USB c porter. And my wife is not going to upgrade her phone and she's going to a lightning porter. And now i'm going .
to have to deal with the fact no about IT come on.
We have doing cables in our car and any time because i'm usually on any phone and I switch back to iphone, my yeah yes.
my wife will get in the car and and set up for android auto and you'll and have to like go through the settings money to turn on car play.
It's very obvious who is going to have to buy the jungle.
And it's you that said .
that goes, look, I think it's great. Didn't lock IT down. They did into any weird made fried phone stuff. They are not nerfs the cables that slower. Will they nerve the entire phone to to b to, but charging speeds should be fine over USB.
C fifteen wants, we think no matter what the cable seeming, you have a good cable that doesn't let itself on fire. Yeah, a real part of the U. S.
B. C. Experience transfer speeds on the prose USB. C, it's a standard I can like they did IT right, think they could .
have put actual U S, like, faster U S, B, in IT, and they could have, like, done more video out or whatever. But for fifteen, yeah, why not? It's one hundred dollars.
They could not put U S, B, three in there. How long used? Three, three.
And around you, you could say that a different way. It's an eight hundred dollar phone.
Yeah, that's an apple. I prefer you to say that this is a garbage friend for eight hundred people. They other dogs. Yeah, you must be too. Yeah, but you're right.
IT. IT does mean that you can now travel with one charging table. I.
my way here, packing my bag cables, the one that routinely get three stopped at the airport as a brand men you ever flying, sometimes eleven is a brand man. The bag full wires from batters is great. I loved every minute of IT, but packing my wires now, and the U. S, B, C. For everything in the .
my one sad little lightning cable.
And I like a, you're coming with me and then you're never gonna seen again. It's interesting that the airports x, they do not they don't even talk about those down.
Now the rumors were as of last week, according to mark, that we will see upgrades for them next year with uh, the USB c port on IT. But yeah no, no. Where are the USB? Uh, the air points, max, there's the other we we talked about this last week as well. But like the other lighting products in apple's lineup will remain though they today they did quietly take off the their store, the mag safe dual charger, which had a lighting port on IT, and the mag safe battery, which also like import, which we're taking off the store not to be spoken of. They did not talk about upgrading those USB c or anything.
just suck. But you can still buy air plus max for hundred. Ipad.
yeah, which is the ipad .
most people should buy.
Yeah, I bought IT. Yeah, we just like children. You have this ipad. You cannot hurt IT in any meaningful way.
It's in case in rubber.
I I think on the fifteen, the port is there for charging. That is not IT is not. No one who buys an iphone fifteen is worried, rather do the transfer speeds.
Yeah, just doesn't seem like they did. They also came out with USB c year pods, which which I think people would more likely use than a 4, A 4。
Here's a question going to on mac. Does that would be great?
I mean, your mac has a headphones, but sure if you want to .
use crappy airport. Well, I just like a lot of people care there are for their phones. Yes, IT would be nice. It's unclear if that would happen. I bet IT doesn't.
And if IT does work like next year as max don't have had fun track, it's just come in sense of fifteen. I had sold IT upgrade. Nothing spectacular .
comes of five colors. They all have Normal names there. No dumb marking names on. It's just pink, yellow, Green, blue and black.
I love IT what you didn't want .
you to be like barbi .
e lemon, grass, sky.
before we break, we should take the Prices required. Yeah, iphone Prices are so most .
of them are the same. The iphone fifteen, the fifteen plus are the same as the fourteen and fourteen plus room last year. So we're talking seven ninety nine start eight ninety nine to start on those uh hundred boks more to if you upgraded the storage. The fifteen pro comes with one hundred and twenty eight egs storage starts at nine ninety nine. Same Prices before.
Where IT is weird is with the fifteen pro max, which is now eleven ninety nine, one hundred dollars more than starting Prices last year, but IT comes at two hundred and fifty six six, the storage, which is twice as much last year and the same Price if you got this two hundred fifty six gig model last year. So it's like kind of a sneaky Price increase like, yes, you're arguing a little more. One can argue that one hundred dollars is a lot of money to charge for.
Hundred and twenty eight gives a storage in this one two thousand in twenty thirty years of our lord. But IT is more expensive. So like if you want the promos with the five ax telephoto lands, you are going to pay more for IT this year than last .
year mortised. We are from the getting scamped. Yes, like you've signed up on the major. And apple, apple loves to talk .
about the trade and they would love to talk about how your iphone holds value and that you can recoup a lot of value and things like that. They put him on a slide. Now they Carry your promotions. yes. Like that's how much much they wanted about because they wanted to flex the fact that they are now charging a twelve hundred dollars starting Price for home.
Yeah, that's one thing here you signed up to american wire s career. If you know what you're in for there, just come in to your house. There's there one of your kids kissed your car to one hundred dollars at the window.
Ah, so that's a fifty. We should take a break. I I need to emotionally prepare myself for the mystery of the phone fifteen pro. There's a lot i'm dying to. Where will you are right back?
And here we have travellers in the natural habitat enjoying guaranteed four P M, checked at five hotels and resorts book through m max travel and they don't see what's coming at them.
We're in. We got the table. Yeah with the reza priority notify. They were loaded when how to get reservations.
open up reservation for two.

Right back the apple event we tell about the fifteen obviously, the interesting phone is the fifteen pro in this lineup. They made IT out of titanium this time. It's a very I like IT.
It's a very some titanium, some titania. There's a titanium frame, but that also connects to an aluminum frame on the inside. So it's like the part you touch is titanium. But then inside of IT isn't .
a thermo mechanically bonded?
yes. Doesn't that .
just mean melted IT sounds cool.
If you say thermo.
you bumped anyone in a sona you've been access, I don't. But that how metals work, as my understanding, is the lightest one ever. Same sizes before, six, one, one, six, seven inches. The very proud of titanium apple, by the way, famous to use team in another product, not the apple watch shelter, the title power book, the single coolest power book ever made.
which lasted about six months before IT looked like garbage because they painted the titanium and that all leaked off.
And also the hint, but it's not talk about IT at this time. They said it's more comparable, which is really a big deal couple.
Let's Carrying on from the iphone fourteen from last year and outs with the proline as well.
But they're saying this word out out. They're saying reparable at loud. They are giving into regulators, right? California regulators is the .
big capitular show for apple. They gave him A, U S, B, C to the europeans. They gave him to california and repair B.
A seventeen per processors, three animators, which is the industry first. That's A T S M C extreme ultra Violet trip. Like ah that's a big deal.
And rumors are the apple bought out T, S, M, C entire capacity for the three anomie ship. So I would not not expect to see three, nine and meter chips from anybody else en home soon.
And then they said it's a breakthrough new GPU design for apple, their first new one. And so guys, you you're on the m two, chip. So um but they are very proud of G P U. That was twenty percent faster. Uh, new shadow architecture, a new neural engine because .
it's hard ray tracing.
Yeah, they have a lot about games. No, they have a .
lot about games. I think my phone especially like specially made for stupid games. If I want to play good games, it's not going to be.
Let me you see the lot of .
stupid games on councils.
okay ay fancy stupid games get to beyond the console. I am not playing resident evil on my phone because as I said, the phone is gonna get chucked the second there's a jump scare and then my expensive phone is going to be in pieces and apple care plus or whatever the the thing is, is not onna cover. Oh, you were scared by resident evil and you chock your at the wall. yeah. Well.
their whole big claim is that this is the first time a full console game experience is available on all device. What was the name of the other game became .
of the D I just remember, oh yeah.
division like the full consent.
because not a console in the world that you software one put a session create on. If you can play a game on IT, a second street will be there. You will be doing stabs on the just so will be there and you'll be stepping.
But this was like a really weird dichotomy and how they are talking about the pro first. That is the most prophet ever, which is an incredible phrase, just a deeply incredible phrase. That means whatever apple wants that to mean. Like their answer to us was we think pro features or aspiration of its the camera display and we just run this and it's the best that we can do. And by definition, that means every new pro iphone is the most profound one ever made.
Well, every new iphone is the best iphone ever.
right? Because they don't make worse iphone.
Like amazing how the really .
something to make the most profound one ever, and we've defined pro in a way that we will never not make the most proof and ever. And then right next to IT, they're like, and I believe they actually set out loud, this is the best mobile gaming to and .
you can also spend fourteen hours in a row plan .
impact yeah and that's like the one the intendo switch exists, which deeply important mobile gaming device with maybe two of the best games ever made in this, all the games is on there. I don't think they're coming to the iphone at this time. I'm confident the iphone is more powerful than intended.
It's got a nicer screen.
It's got yeah like everything on the idea is nicer than my switch and I am like original switch. But it's like that's the best one because it's the best games on IT. The mobile games are not those games.
I mean, that said, no, I am not a mobile gamer, but I know that there's an enormous .
market of mobile amer .
out there.
but she's a kind there's the .
gintian impact players and there's a lot of mobile played on mobile stuff like that. So like there's definitely market here and like apple is speaking to that market and the this market will also pay more for Better performance, which is what they are trying to like. Make the case where with the fifteen.
I just don't need retracing for my visual knock off.
you know yeah the one that like gets your phones super on and strokes your battery. This is why your battery l is down like eighty seven percent like you're running like a bitcoin botnet in a background of like a visual.
the clone at this is, you know, I do, I need retracing on doda a ball game. No, I I would like to see what this is .
like also .
realistic mind, like to your mind, look for someone said for the the fact, it's weird that they did a way tracing explanation, but in two and twenty three, like on the other side of the house PC game side, right tracing for one time, that cause servers all over them and they know what is the phone. This is actually bunkers that they're like doing IT on a phone at the scale. But I have asked people who use other gaming phones to email us on the show for years. Well, I mean, we have never gotten one email because we gotten emails from people who think they might know someone who plays games on an android phone and needs a .
gaming android because they're .
all playing them on iphone. That I say to you audience, I look at you directly and say, if you are a hard core iphone gamer who's going to buy a pro iphone to play games, this is how you want to play assassins crude because let me know i'm just dying here for you and I just want to know what it's like in your life, in your brain. You're like, you know what danger impact. That's a popular game. That's fifty hundred dollars for me.
That's a popular game. I know what say.
I know it's a popular game, but it's just like and is clear that exists. The like gingery .
impact is one of those things where it's like very clear that they're audience is on the iphone because IT runs so much Better on IOS devices than on the android and they puts so much more development working to android. Alison can speak to how annoying IT is the test tension impact on new phones and devices because it's like a thirty gig by downside .
on four hours before I want to play IT, I am like Better started downloading and to and back .
out the stress test devices with IT all the time because IT is such an intensive thing. The IPO N S. And the ipads just run circles around and they have Better silicon. But it's a lot of the fact that the developers .
put all the work do IT. And because in that purchases are the money, all of these games, thirty percent of in that purchases are the money for apple, like apple's entire services revenue chunk. That the thing that's growing while iphone sales are going down the line of visions is great rapport services and the biggest chunk of services is in at purchases and games. Of course, they want the iphone to be an incredible gaming of because if they can sell you more than on impact stuff, yeah, I mean.
there's that outside of IT, but I think that like part of the reason that they spend so much time explaining ray tracing and showing off all these capabilities and stuff is this is where you can see the most impact of a three anomie cutting edge processor.
It's not like if they didn't talk about that, they would be like what your email opens fester or like the Brown even switch, which in the brother, like we've hit the point where like I can use the phone for five years ago and be just fine for my daily data. They work because i'm doing those kinds of tasks, whether gaming is one area where they can pushing envelope, they can continue to show development. And like we ve made this huge investment on the three animal, a seventeen pro processor, I think they draw bionic bionics one.
And I right yes, seventy.
but you know and like the they they talked about its ability to shoot this video and decode if you won video and all this kind of stuff. But really it's the games that where you're going to see the not notice the difference. People can bine iphone fifteen that has the eight sixteen from lesser and not skip a beat because it's just fine. But if you want the best gaming things, which, as we know, PC gamers will literally spend thousands and thousands of dollars to get the best ultimate export maximum performance for their games. If you are a mobile game, best maximum performance, I guess this is going to be spending big on the iphone.
Yeah, i'm just in Candy crush whales, ky crushes like they are. I understand me the demos are good and they do have a chinese spatial computing platform coming out. There's a lot of which has the same there. One ship in. Very confusing over.
And we skipped the most important part of the new iphone pro thin as borders ever.
It's sure there are a little bit there that makes the screen .
look a little bit bigger. Yes, IT looks a little like I put IT next to my thirteen pro and like I don't think it's any smaller, but IT looks .
looks a little smaller. That's true, by the way. Promotion yeah to one twenty years it's that's pretty Normal can get rider can up to two thousand that's a brightest which in right .
in bright unlight, we'll see how long it'll hold their brightest. Uh, lots of phones will produce their brightest. And then fifteen seconds later, dim, unreadable uh, my thirteen protest at all the time so we'll say, but like you know, grid's is Better. So that's that's moving forward, I guess.
And then obviously, U S, B, C three with camera, other mode USB USB three speed up to taking a bit.
which is actually they talk a lot about the things you can do with that, which we saw some very comical studio setups of people using iphone to tether to much more powerful computers. But the rumor mill was expecting thinners able here, which is four times band with of what IT actually gets. So it's usually three ten gigabits if you know your USB.
Ah there's also USB three twenty gig of bits, which this is not. And then there is U S before, which does twenty or forty gig habits. And then also today intel announced thero five, which is twenty. So this is like this is U S B C but is like or USB three but it's like one of the slowest tears of USB three. Um where they could have or there's potential for much fast as I don't know they're just setting themselves up to upgrade IT leader in the future or if this is a limitation of the chip, it's kind of weird that you know we have furthermore on the ipad and all the max and things like that, but it's not on the iphone for whatever reason.
I think they're just managing Better your life and heat. It's small and all that requires power generated at and they don't know if anyone's to actually use the ship.
Well, they aren't going to use IT out of the box because IT doesn't come with the USB three table in the but the U.
S. Three USB c cables are relatively inexpensive, the relatively inexpensive.
But this is the problem with USB c is that you do not know looking at a cable unless it's specifically says on there or you've tested IT yourself what its capabilities thunder able is. The thunder able is annoying in a lot of ways, mostly because it's expensive. The cables are thicker, they have larger ends and stuff.
But if he has the thunder able logo on there, you know what that cable is capable of? I have a bag full of U. S, B, C. Cables right now that I do not know if IT charges at a sixty watts, a hundred thousand, two hundred forty, what I don't know, I don't know if the data supported is four hundred and eighty megabit per second, which is used b two, or is IT forty giga bits.
Second, you take them all back to apples so they can recycle them in the watches or whatever going to. And then you just buy good cables.
Yeah, I mean, you could do that, but you will inevitably end up with cables that you do not like. They so many things come with a charging cable. You know what's .
capable yeah and you just drive those directly the apple store, you increase your carbon emissions and then you recycling in the garbage cable that you do IT look. I think I think it's weird that when you plug a cable in new iphone, that doesn't tell you anything, what the table, a mac, you can go in system profile at least. So that was going on.
This is like you're to point you in iphone and soon and tell you nothing, just like stuff when I started happening or not happen. The dynamic islands should just feel like garbage cable get out of here IT would be really useful like they can do IT. They have that layer information on the screen.
I think apple is just waiting to see what people do with these U. S, B, C. ports.
But uh, with capture one, you can shoot forty eight, nine ago, raw photos and teller immediately, which is cool. You can shoot video directly to external storage, which is cool. Those are their big ideas, basically camera stuff. Yeah.
because, I mean, what else you know .
that charge in charge fun at fifteen? yeah.
I mean, I in a perfect world, you would plug your U, S, B, C. Iphone into a studio display and get like a desktop of the face .
with your a seventeen .
pro within a seventeen pro and the .
eight thirteen. This is why then actually use a MSN. Dex, I love this.
I think he's seriously about this. Talk about the action bug on the cameras. This is the action button quickly, I think o it's there. You don't like IT.
No, I like the action bottom on the ultra. I think it's one of the cool things about the ultra. But what i'm gonna say is, is that I use the action button to do exactly one that got my ultra, which is still launch of my runs. And what i've noticed is that even though you can programme the action button on the alter using circuits, and nobody got time for nobody. Some people have that time for user.
Most people body .
got time for for thinking about how they are going to do that. So for me, the problem with the action button on the ultras that IT has so much potential, but it's really for the average person kind of him then by what the presets are. So if the presets for this action button on the phone aren't great, you're just gonna this, my old well.
I think I, I, I, I hear you. I I feel the same way about the the the butter on the watch. I think it's it's neutered by the fact that it's on the watch in the platform of the watch, the phone, uh, I think IT is more practical to use IT to launch shark a, which is one of the preset options.
The others are by default, will just control your ringer and it's always a long press. See you long press IT to switch between silent and ringing modes. You can also launch the camera with IT.
You can launch the a flashlight with IT. You can launch an accessibility shorter cut. So if you use the back tap thing to pull down your ship, you can program that to the action button, which seems pretty.
And there there was you can run shirt cuts with them. And I think there's one more than i'm not remembering right now. But I could see like you really quickly, easily making a shortcut to launch highlight and then using the action button l launch hai as my camera. The other thing you can do with that is you can take photos with IT in the camera b.
So I think the camera up launching is gonna the thing that most people use because like.
well, to be clear, most we will will use the default. They will not change IT, yes. But if you do change, the default are .
probably laugh. I IT. I know that you can just go from the lock in and go to you at the time I ve, and that my cat has moved. The cute picture has got.
think time between that flow versus holding the button down. I know I think I think it's smoother red.
use the button like also knows this with the android phones for years. You don't press the power about in the launch of camera. You're in IT and you don't like it's one motion.
You pull your phone up, your double clicking, and you can do that same thing with the action bone, with the current system of you have to like, wake the screen up. You have to put your finger on the screen, which is almost always your other hand, you have to hold IT there for a few seconds as second or whatever as IT launches. That's like kind of comer something clumsy.
I think you actually I have so much trouble with that. I don't know what is wrong with me, but like swiping that camera icon is like all like, yeah I know i'm jez about that I always .
open the camera when I am trying to swipe and .
novation away cats and the the action button um the camera that like shortcut, you can customize IT to go into like a certain mode. So if you want to get an important mode early, quickly or video, I think that's nice.
Yes, I think is just .
more potential. The and the U I for costume dn is the phone's UI apple ship.
You go into the settings like just any other like thing you might change on your iphone and then .
you're taken into this like there's a .
three render of the side of things and .
you see a different side phone.
I'm kind of mad as a watch user.
This is this blue.
yeah, big as screens. Huge .
battery. Gino.
impact the action button. That's good. okay. With wake when I have the same every exactly watch no. But the U I for the settings menu is so cool like go look at our pictures, go at the videos, it's so cool.
It's so just it's cool but it's also just like so weird to go into I was like Normal IOS yeah and more I do not look like apples OS more .
IOS should be White yeah I like they could do all of settings and all the settings would be fun instead of right now that ort of inpenetrable list of radio button and talks yeah, this is just like cool hell and it's like fun to use IT and makes you want to use IT, which is need I I just don't know that long press, I think they shouldn't had double tap in long press.
So this is the same argument that you made for with the uh dynamic island last year, right? Like they have a long press and they like a short press. And back here.
i'm saying there's only long press, right? You tap IT once. It'll just tell you a lot of pop up. The thing that's like if it's in the default, you tap IT once that has hold down for silent and IT habit when it's in silence is whole long for him and it's like, okay, that's great. But so everything .
but of all this A I think they're doing that because accidents ying .
they they should have left ring at two clicks, see double click IT to switching modes and long press IT. And that's your customer action though equally and I I hope that comes that just seems a very seems very obviously, they could do lots of things with this button, not beyond just long pressing IT. And I think the long press is going to throw a lot of people off because you click IT and it's like hold for ring and your natural incidence to push IT again and I .
just sends IT again yeah IT gives you helped feedback though like IT vibrates and IT like buzz as you're holding itself to can give you an indication of what it's doing.
I think they did that because they wanted to head off people being like how most people know if my phones on me, I just like to my pocket and .
or the people that they insist they could feel when it's in you without .
looking .
yeah but yeah there's people they can insist they could feel the mutch which position .
is push IT once you're like.
aha bullshit .
sorry yeah IT also just occurs me that if anybody who can apple watch like does not need the use for train more because if almost your path, your phone should always feel you because you're watches buzz, you and you're fine, right? Like you're probably fine. So we'll see.
I'm excited about that. I expect about the camera stuff. I think the shortcuts people are going to make for this, the're going to be bananas, I hope so.
That does like in iphone action button shortcuts website with all the best ones there are. There are some cool shirt cuts out there. Ah IT is a good change along with USB. C, I think the extra butter like a good change. The okay, then there's the camera, which seems all new kinds, bananas, house, single threat.
Yes, so they're saying that the main camera is forty mega pixel again, but they're saying it's a bigger sensor. And then you you have the ultrawise, which had some like new coatings or something. But the big story is the five times telephoto lens, which they would they did not say paris scope, they have a word for tea prism, I don't know there.
There's some meters and things happening inside there, but you don't get the three times. You get the five times inside it's guy, some kind of sensor shift stabilization along with the optical stabilization, which is a good thing you know swimming at work expect yeah and they're all about this like seven different lenses that you get with the and that's counting you know micro and the ultrawise and the the crop mode you can do. But there's like a new thing where you can push the like mean camera icon and a switch between like like equivalent focal lags like twenty four, seven meters, thirty five little .
meters yeah which I think is great. yeah. I am excited for that because I that the main camera is too wide.
I've long felt like the main camera is like equivalent to like twenty four, twenty six million meters for a few years now. It's too White. Like, I don't like IT that White i'd like to shoot at like thirty or thirty five. I just like tell .
IT and it's gone like .
crop in the sea. It's really .
unclear this is working is said being the sensor because I think .
it's using the same technology is the two x is just cutting into the sensor at that to to proximate the field of view. And then I will produce twenty four twenty max image.
Exact word that we were told was there are some other video going on. Yes, because the claim is that IT will for shorten the way different vocal links. Well, yes, which is again impossible to see auto iphone in that environment, which is a totally crazy environment with perfect light. So i'm very curious as we will be the same to see if those modes actually for short, the way that proper vocal length wood, I suspect that they do not. But you should be able to tell the different three, twenty four and thirty five.
Yes, obvious. As you go down the the numbers of equivalent focal length, the smaller they are, the more you notice each millimetres difference. So when you are going from twenty four to twenty eight, it's actually invisible. Noticeable difference if you're going from one hundred to one hundred and four, you don't notice that difference is to, I knew, but when you you you can see IT punching in twenty four, twenty eight, thirty five. And then I think the ultrawise is like a thirteen or something like that.
And so the range is thirteen to one twenty. Now yes, school, again, impossible to tell you what these cameras are actually like. Like it's just a bx environment.
They they took photos and they explode. Yes, that's as much as i've got right now, but I think that's self as cool. Then you have some ques about the telephoto.
I know i'm not confident that the telephoto is going to be all that great. I think it's great that it's gives a longer reach like that was needed three x telephoto and prior pro models existed. Never was really that great.
I know a lot of people never use IT because they don't like the quality of IT. And IT also doesn't bring you damage closer uh, five vex does bring you noticed ly closer that one twenty millimeter focal inks is notice, be closer. But it's not super long like today for the live log, I was shooting with an eighteen to three hundred millimeter lens on my camera.
So like there's a lot further to go. Uh, samsung's tenets zoom is much further than the fights that you get on the pro now. But in order to make this work and because of physics, they have to put a small sense in there.
And samsu has the same problem with its cameras. Other manufacturer that have done per scope or not, paris co cameras in the past have the same problem where they have to put a small sensor in there in order to get the physics to work right, to get the light exposed. And you can tell like pretty easily the quality difference, even in the demo area.
Perfect lying all this stuff. I took a photo of some folks across the table, uh, in a zoo. M in and like I look at the details in the hair, it's all kind of blurred and much together, it's noises like that else.
Is going to a ton more testing. We'll get a more from vertical on IT. I'm just skeptical. I don't I think the firefox is gonna there and it'll be useful to some people, especially the folks like I said earlier, who are standing there, pinches ming on their phone to get as closer they possibly can. It's Better to have a five ex optical starting point than a three x. But I don't think it's going to be like I think a lot of people, we're still gonna all back to the main camera if they care about the image quality.
Yeah, I shouted to X A lot with my fortie pryer like I never got to.
And I think that the five max existence, so what else and you were seeing earlier, didn't really make sense to have that two x punching. When you have a three x it's not enough difference. Now I think IT gives more for a reason for that two x punch exist because five weeks is like, if I, if i'm, i'm standing across from a small table from you life.
I used five x am like ten pictures of your eyeballs and your nose. But like two X, I can frame nicely. So I think that gives more of that punch the reason to .
exist yeah how .
somebody think I am interested to try out. I like the five x like is sort of when I use like the pixel 7 pro hasan and I find IT useful and use like fringe cases where on a hike and i'm trying to frame something and like three ex just gets you nothing you're .
you're in far away section of the Taylor swift concert .
yeah right here。 You're in the backroom but five acts like that much closer and IT is an natural, meaningful different. So i'm interested to see what that looks like.
The question is, is this good enough to get the show max? Because I don't think we've actually stated that this is only on the pro max. It's not on the pro.
The pro gets the same three axes last year. So like is this five acts of meaningful enough jump to get the bigger, more expensive phone, which we can talk about? IT is also more expensive last year. But for me, based on what I saw so far, I would say, no, I am not going to make use of that camera often enough. And i'd rather a smaller letter phone.
Yeah but I like I love a big screen.
You are .
very battery. We're different.
People like the .
camera is not the thing is the biggest and the bigger battery. I don't think anybody is going to buy the thing for the new ones.
I think if I was good enough, people would. I mean, this is not the first time we've seen apple segregate the camera to the pro, the biggest phone, and did with the twelve pro, right? The twelve pro pro max. The twelve pro had the first time I had the really bigger sensor from the main one and the pro the regular pro one did not and there was a noticeable difference between the two, if you cared .
enough about that. And so so I do know um there's some video stuff here. They now support 4 sixty log in coding when you shoot in progress。
This court cases, which is interesting, ted, for collecting other good, cool. It's a stuff. It's the, it's the most prophet ever then and then this is, I think, fascinating.
They support spatial video capture if you turn the phone sideways and he used the main in the ultrawise do special great. It's for the vision pro hear the divorce to had washing a birthday party. No, this is what it's four. It's happened.
It's notable that in the demo clip that they showed on stage, IT was not a divorced dad washing IT. They did not show the dad interacting with his kids the face mask. There was another person reliving a memory on their couch.
Yeah, alone, alone.
There's no to want you that you only experience IT alone.
Here's, say, a filly. This is fascinated me. We have been writing about this for a long time. h.
James, where are our old created matter? Has a piece on our side from ages ago. The power of the iphone. IT is the first device where the people consuming the photos, we are using the same device as the people making the photos.
And so your relationship with photography, his change, and we published eight years ago, this piece like, and jams are the photos like, big thinking will link IT. A great piece. I've been thinking the piece a lot every time we do an iphone of view like this is the dynamic is there.
I cannot think of another creative tool actually, where IT is both the thing that makes the content and the thing that consumers the content. Then you have a relationship, the person on the other end of the the platform, right? This is the first time apples broken that relationship where you can shoot spital .
video on your .
iphone and you cannot watch .
IT see the put a 3 screen .
on IT I got three run blue glasses。 I don't think they should have three. They should do not like a fire phone, like five hundred cameras on the screen. I just there's a something fascinating about that yeah that for the first time ever, the iphone is a capture device for another system that nobody has that is super expensive, that no one knows what it's for. And sure, they should do IT, but it's all they have to do IT.
because otherwise the only way to capture the spatial deo is through the headset, which is like we we just can talk about how awkward that can be. So I mean, we'll see what it's like .
to actually view special video on the iphone. So yes.
and that's what the second camera is doing, is creating the depth map. It's got the distance between the lenses to do so that you have to turn IT in landscape more to do so sense, which makes sense from a technical level. IT does not make sense for how ninety .
nine percent of people who portrait had set video is not a good idea. Have just saying.
this is how people shoo video on the front, right? right? And so like they can switch them, maybe the phone will will have A U I telling them turn the phone to decide to do this. But if he does in, they're going like weird videos but like they had to do IT in order to get any content for the headset down.
We'll see. I'm just saying it's the first time applies broken. The sort of power of the iphone is a camera in that way.
okay. We'll see how that goes. Kind of what they assuming is that people will shoot spatial video without a headset yeah because .
they will be buying an iphone in the week going to have and I have a heads plus they .
did say it's coming later. But even then, the iphone pro install bin fifteen pro install base necessarily will dwarf the headset install base for a long time. So i've just wondering IT like there's just something in there.
It's there's something important about this camera and what IT represents people that is broken by the ability shoots facial video. And it's not a technical thing. It's not a quality thing. IT is like a philological relationship between the camera and the screen and the iphone that apple has for the first time divorce.
It's it's the aspirational thing. They are like you could buy a vision pro. You you can record this video, you'll be ready for IT.
But it's like what's a good analogue analogy? It's like if you bought for a vhs cam quarter but you didn't have a vhs player in your house, right? It's just like a totally weird thing. I think it's fascinating. I just like thinking about IT, like what that represents for this device because I think a lot of it's the thing with the tiktok how to how to take Better videos in camp photos in iphone.
Like everybody has an idea about IT and there's a cottage industry of content creators for like here's what you do, turn your philes upset down, you counted twenty, throw in the ocean and like the whatever and it's because they're like you look at this photo, I will teach you how to make IT using the tool that you're holding your head and this i'm just like this breaks IT in a way that I think alterations fascinating. And I I am just like waiting for the day when someone realized they've shut like oceans of special video and and what is this? sorry. I mean, I think the people that .
will use IT and know what IT is, are the people that are going to be the first ones to buy a vision pro when IT comes out. Most people we're gonna touch IT are not onna go into the most and just .
just walk through that. You're like walking on the story, beautiful sand tisco like taking a photo of the bay. The bridge is the hot thing. And like, I can't wait to go put on my heads at IT. Really, really it's like there's just something I promise you there's something .
we are there divorce that are gonna .
love IT yeah we will link that piece by James I was thinking about of during this entire demo of just how port IT is that a lot of times when you look at a photo on your iphone, you're holding the same thing that someone was holding to take that photo. And there is just something very important about that. And it's all the space al computing tangent that apple is going down is about to make all that way weird. Yeah, I think that's enough for, oh.
did the big little bit the whole reason.
the whole thing thing I want to talk about, okay, the iphone has wifi six, which is school. Sure, because I just bought the wrong eroes. But now that the rios I was, I shoot about the pro sexes, should you do?
Because they have the whole little whatever.
But I ask them about the six years we have the six radios, and but I have no sixty devices .
because they use the sixty radio to talk to each other.
You have six hard suck for that. So whatever IT doesn't matter now i'm going to get an iphone was six. We get the full megabit.
You will never .
know when it's .
on succeed because it's gonna tell .
you and it's possibly download the phone explodes. It's me great. But then they also talked into this release, tucked into the future mental box, says plus thread as a thread radio.
Now if you have been following jen to we at the verge, you know, the thread is an important part of the future of the smart home. Which one is a british accident show? Is was of the small, which is great. Thread and matter coexist.
yeah. Well, so thread is one of the technologies that matter runs on right.
Matter can run anything. But the idea is that you have the secondary where can spot home, that is thread. It's a mission, works on all your devices, you know, a border router, the connecting the wifi in the interview, whatever.
Why is there thread radio in the iphone? But none of that works in IT is just a mess, just a disaster mess. None of IT quite works. None of IT quite interOperate.
Tes, if you go like one nano leaf light club and connect IT to a home pod mini, a series of incantations and like Crystals, it's a little bit faster than doing over wifi, and that's about as good as but the iphone fifteen pro has a thread radio on IT in the press race is like it's there for future ideas in the home map. And you're like, what are those ideas anyone like? We don't know.
IT. If that's the whole answer though, I guess some stuff is gna happen with matter. And so what I got yeah i've .
been trying to think about like what you would do with a thread radio on the phone that I can't due with .
a wifi e blue to o you so fast you think IT it's going like.
So let's think this through. You have thread radio on your iphone.
And step one, the connectivity standards alliance finishes the matter specification .
matter accepted. You have thread on your iphone and you have a thread device. And IT uses thread to talk to that device to communicate to IT what happens when you leave your house and someone else wants to control that device.
Do they need thread on there? No, because they you'll have some border right here so that the connectivity standards alliance finishes the matter specification, which includes thread radio international Operability .
yeah read i'll technical thread network interpret ability.
It's so much right, right? My new eroes have thread ideas in them. Yeah, they should make a mesh .
network with my homeboys and talk.
So now I have two thread, yes. My house, yes.
And if you introduce a google hub, max, which I think you.
yeah, no, I don't with the baby once, okay, so those I don't think no.
But a hub max would introduce yet another thread network in your home.
And all of those just make one giant happy thread mesh network. And then you bring the iphone into IT. And IT sees that happy thread national network, and I can connect directly to devices on IT.
This is the dream. Now what is really going to happen is at homework. IT is also insanity. And something on your home kit thread network will break. And the solution to fixing IT will be restarting your iphone, which is off in a solution.
But yeah, I mean, that is the default mekin fix because you never because home kit does not tell you what breaks or how IT broke or why. The answer is, reboot your iphone and IT weirdly fixes. I ve run a thread in newark, my home, for a couple years now. And frequently if I say I move a home pod to different room or decii don't need to use IT and more devices .
grow with his family we'll .
just stop working yeah and so like light, hobs will just no longer connect. And this is what you self healing in all that does not that i've been just like taking .
them out when they stop working. And three kids don't never know what's going on.
I'm away. I'm away from home this week and i'm convinced nothing in the housework. Ds.
they're just sitting in the dark.
You're sitting in the dark or they're like sleeping with all the lights on.
You're cut in the main power to ask. But I just think it's this is the first time the ultra wide men ship, the first signers ships and improve. Was that I think the first time they put in the thing that they hadn't quite enable all use cases for, but both, I think had some .
use cases for that.
Not yet didn't they know ah they answer the car keys and they were hoping in cartey and they never happened and .
tag they came out with that was next .
the first day first stated the chip. That was the only time I can really think this part of these have new ultra band chips yes, that able precision finding him .
to more we could call them youtube chips.
Apple doesn't like IT when you do that.
No.
but I think you kept saying second generation of adventure like .
they call the do you want what is me that called the you?
But that's only time this this time you're putting through radio. I'm assuming it's coming for the ride with the wifi sixty chip they're using. That's probably save that.
right?
And so they just have IT. They might as well do IT and they don't know what it's for and like something good.
I just someone who has an idea of what to use the thread radio on has to be that right into the show.
Tell me again, IT has to be that what you want is a direct connection to that. Nana forbes, whatever of the fred device. Dear laugh, this is all people want to do work from red, blue switch.
Just thinking of an analyst, bob, talking to the little iphone. Dio, it's just just a little thing in my head.
I just I just don't see a scenario where that would ever happen because for the nanny bo B2Be run on thr ead.
it's to do a thread and network actually on the same way. I exactly have so much .
respect for jane because my head hurts.
It's not great. Gene wrote entire piece that Smith like, what is this? But why? IT is just like, run this multiple times.
What is matter? What is thread for this one in .
particular is like this phone has this ship in that why? And she's like runs on the options and by the end of the peace, she's like none of these are good at, like none of this makes any sense. I'm just dying to know what apple odessa has a plan, right? They ouldn't .
want to tell .
apple often put stuff in their devices and doesn't even mention IT, even when the tair towns revealed that is there whatever, until they are ready, delighted up. And here they put IT on the slide, in in the press release. There has to be some plan.
I just cannot figure what that is like. Not even a hypothesis that begins to make sense. Outside of dance, kids need to light up the animal clubs even faster than they were doing before.
That's IT. That's what I got. We're doing in an entire hour a chin .
on the thread in the thirteen and all .
of my head hurts.
So we just moved like I and it's like, this is the worst time to buy a smart home. Stuff like all of IT is inherently absolute right now.
no. So the movie is you buy stuff that is supported by a hub because the hub will get upgraded and then all the devices that connect to that hub will Carry along with IT. It's the individual devices that .
are nine I have like five few bulbs just sitting in, sitting in a once b .
and it's also a bullett for the hub .
does not work in .
my house because the router is in a closet. So I was like, you know, I will eventually move and then I will unpack these five bulbs for some future time.
I'm saying if we end of a dorax are require an external hub like that something bad has happened in my life, right? Like that's a real issue. I don't think it's going to happen. I'm saying basically you get at ready for the next two years the verge test to be nightmare, smart home .
and a great this.
Yes, because it's so not ready and IT feels .
like it's got.
But the iphone fifteen pro is mysteriously ready because IT has a thread ad radio in IT.
And I don't know why matter ready?
If you know why, let me know something that if you get an interesting idea, we've got to take a break in the eco planet of the watch is what you're event.

Right back. Where do you want to start with? I know you got feelings you can pent up over there. yeah.
So I think a lot of my problems this year is that the smart watch updates across the board have been so iterative. So the one i'm actually looking most forward to is the pixel watch two because IT has the most room to grow, but everything else is like I think I wrote a blog and I was bucket up buckles were going to have some interactive smart watch updates. This is the definition of iterative, but we are .
internal analytics suggested if you put buckle up in the headline IT blockers over performs. But i've heard any hacking say the phrase people love buckling up before.
Well, that really because that the blog did do well. So yeah um so you know I I was there and people like what's new about this watch like, well, not much like on the surface, at least like on the inside uh after after quite a checking IT out and thinking about what the new features are there IT feels like there is stuff happening but none of IT is apparent on the surface level. So if you look at the abroad series nine, the most I can say is that IT now comes in Barbie pink, which I love. But looking at IT, IT looks like the series IT.
which looked like the series seven, which look like the thirty six.
No, no, no. There's a slightly below, yes, ignoring singer .
vessels look like a series six, like a series five and like a series four.
IT hasn't really trained in terms of looks. IT gets incrementally larger when they are like a screens. Let's make them slightly larger.
And then, you know, the ultra two actually got told to put my original ultra away because they were afraid I was going to lose IT. That's how similar IT looks like to the ultra two ww. So they were like, we just want to make sure you don't lose your watch. And IT was like, well, I have this no mad grown the dark band on .
so there's no way i'm losing on the .
demo floor yeah I .
get where they are coming from though, because I was holding the the ultra in my hand. I think I think this ultra is lighter. The ultra two is lighter and this one game made like, I think it's a strong, which is which is their way of telling me that it's not it's the same it's basically the same body.
So it's like, okay, cool. And you know with the ultra too, there was at least of the rumor that I was going to come in a darker color that does not the case. That is the same time color because titanium is hard to make different color.
So I just don't think they were really gonna do that with this one. But you know, IT basically comes down to there is a new chip. There's a new chip and it's been a wise since there was a new chip.
And the new chip will enable more things what more things well um it's all going to be in the background. So you probably notice how much more convenient everything is going to be for you. But IT will be like siri will understand you more and it'll do everything they .
were like serious. Now using an on device transformer model, which is as closely as I got to saying AI. He said machine learning a lot. But no, I accept red. One mentioned of transformer model in the city section.
So yes, so siri is supposed to do things on device, meaning so like right now, if you are in your laundry room and it's in the basement and you don't have your phone with you and you say serious at my time or four, five minutes from my laundry, whatever, it's not gonna serial. We just like, sorry, can't do that for you and has happened to me a lot of times.
But now supposedly series will be able to do that for you even if you have no connection, which you know you think about IT, that's actually kind of convenient and you think about IT anyway, like, well, didn't always do that and no, no, it's not something that y've always not. But then at the same time you're like, okay, well, they're saying siri will have twenty five percent Better diction. I am onna, conduct the longest sentence to test this way with so many multi syllables and probably an ethnic or international word thrown in there, just to like, thread off.
Because I was a point in time when I said material, I A lot just to see what siri would understand that he did. General, I not understand, but now IT does. So I can tell you that doesn't prove over time. So I will take suggestions for what ridiculous words I can try and make theory understand to me with. But you know, they supposedly that what's going to happen and later on in the year, he is going to be able to answer your health data, which I don't know how I feel about.
Do you see on the the 对, the flying things, you could say a theory about health data. And one of them was like syria. I wait this much to that. And it's like sociopaths, sociopaths. Ff, if you're just announced ing to your watch how much you way everyday, like again, something has gone wrong.
Some of that is like they're thinking like can we do this, not whether we should like I don't think you should necessarily be really like syria. Log my weight as x part .
and I didn't purchase the connected scale. I bought a new apple watch to which I announced my way everyday. But that is like interesting, right? It's all background. The processors more powerful to doing more local processing of stuff.
IT also enable some .
other other things that does have .
some other things .
like double tap .
or I all a pinching, pinch, pinch.
I pinch.
it's the pinch. T S actually like they are saying it's new. It's not really new because they introduced a sist of touch a couple years ago, which is an accessibility feature, which lets you control the watch one handed.
And now they're just kind of bringing IT to the masses, which in my view proves that accessible design benefits everybody. But so you you can do a little pinch, I pinch motion, and you'll be able to do all the primary actions of your watch single handed. So someone calls you, you're washing your dishes.
You can pinch pinch fiscal term, uh, you can pinch you pension and answer the phone call. Or you know, you, let's say, set up your camera and you, anna, take a photo. You can now pg you pension and control the cool.
If you, you know, watch O S time has the new widget tax because about wagged, so you can score through your your widget by pinching. So IT essentially becomes a one handed device because you know, you wear on one risk. You have to use your other hand to to use IT and now you don't have to incredible .
moment of the key out when jeff am said, this is great for those moments when your other hand is occupied.
No further detail, just no example.
you're just waving in your watch around and then this sounds busy and I like, okay, incredible thing to say, lad. You're the CEO again of the richest COO, the richest company in the world. Know, you know the problem. Have a lot one hands busy like weird. I think weird is weird, all the weird and and I like, you know, like that's Better than using my nose, which is what been doing .
that is Better than like we have all gone like crapp something calling me stick your nose into to the watch so IT is Better. I I do have some questions about how intuitive it'll be for everyone because with a simple touch, you're bassi ally being very specific about what these actions are doing. This is meant to be more contextual.
So they're kind of making assumptions as to what you are going to think when you when IT comes time to pinch, I pinch, and I don't know that everyone has the same thoughts. They did tell me that some aspects will be customizable. So when you are going to your music, not everyone has the same thought about whether it's quite to play, pause or skip forward because these are different assumptions we have from other devices so that at least will be consumed zable.
There's another one that I forget what will be customized, but h, you know, so that's cool. On a very nerd level. I find a cool that he does not have to be your index finger. You can use your metal finger or really finger.
It's very .
important because those like what if you don't have an index finger, which is you know some some people don't have index fingers, so that at least is neat and think IT will be kind of cool once you get used to using IT. But you do have to get used to using IT. I did the demo like six different times of the demo floor. And for the first few times I was just aggressively pinching.
like the thing makes IT hard, like initially, is the watch has be awake. So you have to do the gesture to wake IT up, then you pinching, pinch, and then then IT works more likely. But if you, if the watch is in awake, you'll just be pinching.
Yeah, that was me. I was just pinching and I like wise and not working and y're like, oh, you have to do the gesture to wake IT up and then you can pinch, yes, but then I was only pinching once and not double pinching.
So that has to be a it's a pinch.
It's a .
pinch pint.
I mean, I I thinking of myself, eventually I will be double resting because I always double resting except for right now but and not really be h my god.
I can't wait IT. So this is not .
the whole thing is this is because the s nine chip we're doing sensor fusion or measuring your blood flow.
I think that is how it's worry. It's it's monitoring the muscles in your forearm that react when you do these gestures with your figures. So that is why IT works with your other fingers.
And like they said you you could do IT with the pinky, but depending on certain people, the way their arms are in main not work as reliably. And most people works reliably with the index singer of the bit finger. But but that's what it's monitoring. It's monitoring the blood flow through your rest in .
your first hard great sensor.
Yes, yes, yes. At well, when it's awake, lights up the hurry sensor and then it's ready. I think this is probably why IT doesn't work when it's not awake. One probably to stop false trigger, but also IT does have to light up .
a bunch of sensors in order to the other. The we need a geoscope, we need the heart rate sensor, which I hadn't mentioned specific ly ridiculous know. And then where do in sensor refusing a machine .
that what the s nine enables and that's what all the extra cores, it's got a four core neural co processor, whatever they call IT, a sip as a post instead of IT. As so see that we are used to hearing for .
all the device is everything is on the same chip die. The chip is a package. So multiple chip, integrated, stacked and a small the new package.
So they keep referring the s but it's got all those in in like this is why you have a noral processor on your list to figure out these kinds of feature.
also more power efficient. But you know apple has the tendency of like with power efficiency to be like. And so we will do more things with the power efficiency that we have instead of giving what some people want, which is longer battery life. So screen .
is brighter. The cream goes up to two thousand.
Saw .
demo pared to the. I so like the .
original ultra goes up to two thousand and when you're outside, that's quite right. And now the ultra two goes up to three thousand. So i'm just like, well.
could you see that was that that seems like a difficult thing to see something outside?
Yeah you need the older model right next to IT at max right now is to really understand IT because when I was looking at the s nine in the perfect lighting in heaven's Steve jobs later, I was like, I I can tell the difference, but when they put the two next to each other.
then you can yeah demo N S A that had been tricked into four brainless and N S nine that had been tricked into full brainers next to each other. And that's when you could see IT. And the idea of being that if you are an environment where you need this brainless, that's where it'll can help you. But ultimately, I just looked .
nicer when it's brighter yeah that does yeah but that's the brighter screens. And you know they always say the same battery life is never the same. Like with smart watches, your individual usage really does kind of impact how much my edge you're going to get.
But when when apple is eighteen hours about your life, like the series for that was maybe like twenty four hours, series five that was maybe twenty hours, like you can get more. Apple is very conservative with their battery life estimates. So when they say eighteen hours, i'm really gonna how how far you can push the eighteen hours for the original, uh, not the original for the regular one, but for the ultra two.
They said IT was thirty six and I just, you know, I have gotten as far sixty hours on the ultra without doing anything going on runs like I did a half marathon, slow half marathon. I was not fast that day and I think I only lost fifteen percent battery with no low power mode enabled. So i'm really curious to see whether that the extra power efficiency will push the alter into the seven seventy two our territory because that are .
claiming follow paramos.
which is the claim for low paramos. But I think I think depending on how you use IT, because let's be real, not everyone buying and ultra is the weather beaten explore athlete.
they so you are a piece that was like, who is an ultra former? I think SHE Williams .
read IT because in his presentation.
he is like, here's to the apple watch alerts for he said, as you catia, he sent IT out and his answer was, it's for people who want a big splay in the best battery life. And he was not like an ocean explores like he was like the biggest display in the best battery life.
I'm going to be real like I go to. I am not the most athletic person on the planet. I would consider myself a weekend warrior of count potato like I, I, I do do a lot of exercise.
I exercise probably like six thousand seven days of the week. But i'm not athletically gifted and I never will be. But I do go to like run groups. I have friends who are athletically gifted and absolutely none of them are interested in the ultra. There are just not there is like very good.
My garment and my garmin has forty thousand metrics that that the upper watch will never have and they're very like happy with that or a regular apple watch. So thinking about that, I was just like I don't think that the ultra is really for those extreme athletes until you can be like, oh, the ultra marathon or you can run sixty hours. I don't know why you would want to, but I know these people do run sixty hours and you won't need to Carry your charter on you until you can legitimately do that.
I don't think that the ultra is really for that extreme explored. So that was a question I did top lic, who is this watch for? And the physician, an answer that I get is, is for people who want to flux, is for people who have eight hundred dollars. And yes, I know right.
Because on the iphone side, if you get .
hundred dollars here.
some should we end the parts spin b two, yeah, this this is an eight pony ac made of left over cattle like parts like that doing ah.
The other thing that the ultra they do demo out for us on the ultra two was this automatic nightmare and was like, woo h, this was like a party trick that I should not have been as excited to see as I was.
But if you turn off the light, it'll automatic switch. Watch us nine with the first culture. You use the digital crown to switch between the special watch face between its a nights mode reds, which you you can do on that watch face in I you need to use a special watch face, but with watch with ten, if you you spin the crown you go into the wagons so you couldn't do that anymore. So basically they are using the light sensor to know when the lights .
out and switch into the dog. But that that actually is something .
there be a this is coming to the first alter. Well, so it's exclusive. I'm just .
going complained about smart watches for a hot second, remembering what comes on, what was ten to which watches and which is exclusive to what on what skills is is just like I need a whole other code process or brain to remember that.
But is IT new? There's a new watch, watch faces, modular ultra.
Is that coming to .
this is coming. There's no real reason for anyone to upgrade from the first .
ultra to the flex. And other .
the flex get the pinching pinch and you get the three .
thousand nets. And that's really and the new youtube trip precision finding, which my fellow A D H D can't remember where you play anything well yeah but you have to get an iphone fifteen for that to actually work yeah but you know, they showed to us as I go, it'll tell you exactly which direction to go, how far to go to find your phone, which i'm super excited about because I have lost my phone in a fridge.
It's basically the same experience. You get tracking an air tag with an iphone cept. You're tracking an iphone with your apple watch.
It's a little slower. I didn't notice that because when you do, when you do do IT with the air tag, it's like pretty quick this you can only track your iphone fifteen. You can't track like an air tag that's gona be there.
So IT, that doesn't to have that. But I was like, yes, for me specifically, I used to find my phone function at least twenty to thirty times a day. So yeah, that's IT .
what to watch that they upgraded a chip.
They made things a little bit writer.
They add of the interesting that the double tap is harbour locks, these new ones. Do you think that the old funds, that the old watches can do him?
That is their line. That their line is that the s nine enables this feature because of its neural engine and because it's able to take all the data sensors and spit out something more.
And if you turn on the list of touch.
so I think the part of that is that the contextualized of IT, so that it's built into the system, where is assist of touch is something that you have to go in and in. And there is kind of a learning curve with a sist of touch. So there's that there's also more customize ability with the size of touch.
So I don't know, but yeah yeah, like I could see an argument for that just because your rist is a very noisy place in terms of sensors. It's actually not great for heart rate accuracy. Uh, I think the most accurate place is the underside of your finger or your ear.
So on that front, if you want IT to be accurate, if you want IT to be something that a lot of people can use reliably with multiple fingers, I could see an argument for needing a more powerful sip for that. But yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, remember.
I think I so watch, we didn't say the Prices. The apple watch is nine three.
nine ninety nine.
The ultra is seven ninety nine. If you .
want a flex of the us, some folks hypothesize that they might drop .
the as you know.
I think the room to drop in now that the series three is dead gone, there's nothing at that one night Price point.
All the stuff hits the twenty period on friday yeah I seventeen comes at settle eighteen th macos cinema, the team twenty sixth. And then also then a second are the USB c airports s pro, which have serious another mystery.
They have a new mysterious lossless audio feature, only works with a vision premise, uh, IT is a quote, ground breaking new wireless audio protocol and quote, revolutionary new format that allows twenty bit forty eight killer its audio transmission from the vision pro to the airports pro. So goodbye blue youth. Get out to hear your own parent. Like.
I wonder, I wonder if this is a modification reform, a blue eth. I think if I had to like hypothesizes, like wise and only on the vision pro, I wonder if it's a distance thing. If you're wearing the airports in the vision problem on your head, there's a maximum of six inches of distance between the devices, whether if it's on your phone and the airboat, you ve got a few feet between them. And I can maintain .
that fatlings .
who phones got a thread radio.
And there's so a lot of mysteries that apple did not address today. Obvious ly does not work. The iphone, no last society of their pod s pro, the airports pro, don't get IT and you cannot buy the U. S, B, C case for all airports pro. We were told that there might be a quote service part.
which is fascinating. Yeah, the president for IT being sold separately was when they moved. I think he was the airports s two, uh, came out initially, did not have wireless charging and then they updated to a wireless charging case. You could just buy the case if you wanted, but doesn't look like that's happening with the USB c airpower s proto. Also notice the regular airpower s three, not in USB c we've mention earlier the airport's max not in USB c at .
