Live from NPR News, I'm Giles Snyder. California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is challenging President Trump to have him arrested. Newsom posted a video to social media a short time ago amid the street protests in Los Angeles in response to Trump's immigration policies. Earlier, Newsom spoke to NPR. Kids are scared to go to graduation. Families are unwilling to gather publicly. They're scared to walk the streets.

Stop that. You need someone's head. You need to be the tough guy. You need to show how strong you are. Fine. Take me out. But have these kids have some decency and have the backs of these children. President Trump has authorized the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard members to L.A. and the Pentagon has deployed some 700 active duty Marines. Newsom and California Attorney General Rob Bonta are suing the Trump administration over the deployments.

A travel ban restricting the entry of citizens from 19 countries is now in effect. The ban echoes a similar prohibition passed during the last Trump administration. And here's Jasmine Garst reports. Twelve countries are fully banned, including Haiti, Afghanistan, Iran, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, and Somalia. Citizens from seven other countries will be subject to partial bans, including Cuba, Sierra Leone, and Venezuela.

These are countries that the administration has deemed a threat to national security or public safety or that have a history of visa violations. At a vigil for Yemen in Manhattan, Kathy Breen, a retired nurse, told NPR. I'm here out of desperation.

It's just beyond comprehension. I don't know what to say. We make refugees, but we don't take them. These restrictions build on a travel ban from Trump's first term that was upheld by the Supreme Court. Jasmine Garst, NPR News, New York.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is replacing every member of a key government committee that helps set policies on vaccines. Here's NPR's Will Stone. Kennedy is removing all 17 sitting members of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices, which provides advice and guidance to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In his role as Secretary of Health, Kennedy oversees the CDC.

In a press release, Kennedy said this was, quote, necessary to reestablish public confidence in vaccine science, unquote. He pointed out that all 17 members were appointed by the Biden administration. Kennedy has previously raised concerns about conflicts of interest. However, the committee's ethics rules require members to disclose conflicts of interest and recuse themselves if they have one. In response, the American Medical Association said Kennedy's decision undermines, quote, trust and upends a transparent process that has saved countless lives.

Will Stone, NPR News. An aid boat bound for Gaza has arrived at an Israeli port. The boat was trying to break Israel's longstanding blockade of Gaza. It was seized by Israeli naval forces.
