There is a moderate or level 3 out of 4 risk for excessive rainfall across the region, where an additional 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall today. Flash flooding is possible, especially in low-lying areas and urban zones. Meanwhile, a ridge of high pressure over the east is bringing above average warmth with highs in the 70s and 80s, even in the Midwest and Northeast. Temperatures are cooler out west with 60s and 70s more common and 80s continuing across the desert southwest. But don't let the warmth fool you. Severe weather remains a serious threat today from the Northeast all the way down to the southern plains.
