Fox Sports Update.
Welcome to West Sacramento on a historic night for the athletics franchise as they usher in a new era. On NBC Sports, California, the Oakland Athletics are no more. They're just the Athletics now. And for this and the following two seasons at least until their new ballpark in Las Vegas will open, the A's will call West Sacramento their home. Last night, their first home game outside of Oakland since 1967. Not a great start.
Unless you're a Chicago Cubs fan. And that's the ball game. Cubs win 18-3 the final. And a nice start to the series here at Sutter Health Park. On Marquee Sports Network, the Athletics lost 18-3 in their first home game at their new home, Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento, where the A's are sharing space with the minor league Sacramento Rivercats, San Francisco Giants' AAA affiliate. The Cubs scored more runs than any visiting team had yesterday,
at a major league home opener since 1925. The Cubs were led by catcher Carson Kelly, who had a single, double, triple, and home run, and two walks. Carson Kelly, the first Cubs catcher to hit for the cycle since Randy Hundley in 1966. The Athletics honored the late Ricky Henderson, who died in December. All A's players wore Henderson's jersey number 24 last night.
