The Atlanta Braves received a blow today. Major League Baseball announced an 80-game suspension for outfielder Jerkson Profar after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance. Profar will be able to return to the field on June 29th, but as part of his suspension, he will not be eligible for the postseason should the Braves qualify for
Thorfar agreed to a three-year, $42 million deal with Atlanta in January after a big year with the Padres where he set career highs in batting average, home runs, and RBIs in 2024, all being named to his first All-Star team. Staying on the diamond, the Phillies staged a seventh-inning rally to beat the Rockies, topped off by this mammoth Kyle Schwarber home run. Schwarber lifts it out to center field. Heading over to the NFL, the tush push is a hot topic of conversation at the league meetings after the Packers issued a proposal to ban the play.
Sean McDermott, head coach of the Bills, a team that has used a form of the play with quarterback Josh Allen, is focused on player safety. Where I'm most concerned is, even though there's not significant data out there to this point, my biggest concern is the health and safety of the players. That was courtesy of the Bills. Last month, NFL executive Troy Vincent said there have been zero injuries reported as a result of the Tush push.
And the Browns are in a tough spot because of a move they made three years ago. Co-owner Jimmy Haslam spoke about the team's decision to trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson in 2022, saying, quote, We took a big swing and miss with Deshaun. We thought we had the quarterback. We didn't. And we gave up a lot of draft picks to get him. So we've got to dig ourselves out of that hole. Due to suspensions and injuries, Watson has started just 19 games over the past three seasons, and he may miss the entire 2025 season as he rehabs from a torn Achilles.
