Fox Sports Update. The Final Four hails from the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas today as two teams will punch their ticket to the National Championship game on Monday night. This is only the second time in tournament history that all four one-seeds have made the tournament semifinals, so we should expect some fireworks. And the action kicks off just after 6 p.m. Eastern with Auburn taking on Florida.
The Auburn Tigers looking to win their first ever national title and while they entered the tournament as the number one overall seed, they now have the farthest odds to win it all. But head coach Bruce Pearl says he likes being the underdog and his team is determined. It's just a level of desperation that knowing that tomorrow could be our last game every single time for this group and so they don't want this to end.
But Pearl has history with Florida Gators head coach Todd Golden, who he hired to be his director of basketball operations and assistant coach at Auburn from 2014 to 2016. Golden says he has a close relationship with the Pearls and that he's excited to play them in the final four. I know he's incredibly proud of me. I'm incredibly grateful for him and his family and the opportunities that they provided for me. I would not be here, you know, if I didn't have my relationship and experience, uh, you know, working with and being around Bruce and his son, Steven. And, uh,
It's a little bit of a full circle moment, you know, I'm sure for both of us. Florida looks to win their third national title and their first since 2008. It's tourney time. And with FanDuel's dog of the day, you could get a daily profit boost during the college conference championships to bet on any underdog. So get ready to celebrate some upsets. And then just before 9 p.m. Eastern, Duke squares off with Houston. The Duke Blue Devils have arguably the best player in the country in Cooper Flagg as they try to make the national title game for the first time since 2015 when they won it all. Head coach John Shire was on that team as the assistant coach and he says in order to get back there, they need to face a tough Houston squad. We know very well how legit their defense is and their physicality and all that, but
Let's be us and let's not be in our heels. And I think that's an important thing when you play them because they're terrific. Meanwhile, for the Houston Cougars, they're looking to win their first national championship, but it will be a tall task against Duke. Head coach Kelvin Sampson giving his Duke counterpart his flowers. I'll tell you how good John Shire's been. Nobody talks about him replacing Coach K anymore.
He's John Shire. He's got his team in the Final Four. I think that speaks volumes of him. The winners of these two games will square off on Monday night at 8.50 Eastern Time.
