Boston shut out the Rangers 5-0 with designated hitter Rafael Devers launching an opposite field home run over the Green Monster in the seventh inning. Red Sox up 4-0. That was courtesy of Nesson as the Red Sox took the three-game series from Texas. After the game, Devers made it clear he has no interest in another position switch. Devers said Red Sox management approached him about filling in as Boston's first baseman if Tristan Cass is out for the season with an injury. Three-time All-Star said in part, quote, Right now, I don't think it would be an appropriate decision by them to ask me to play another position. Devers was asked to move from third base to DH during spring training after the Red Sox signed Alex Bregman in free agency.

With the hopes that they'll be able to salvage their season, Pittsburgh fired manager Derek Shelton today with the team sitting in last place in the NL Central and mired in a seven-game losing streak. In his five-plus seasons in Pittsburgh, Shelton went .306 and .440, failing to make the postseason and never finishing above .500.
With reigning National League Rookie of the Year Paul Skeens as the franchise cornerstone, the Pirates had hoped to contend this season, but at 12-26, Pittsburgh now turns to bench coach Don Kelly.
Heading over to the NFL, the Texans went out and got quarterback C.J. Stroud another wide receiver in the NFL draft, selecting Jaden Higgins with their first pick, and Houston showed how much they believe in the Iowa State product today. The Texans signed Higgins to a four-year fully guaranteed contract, according to multiple reports, making him the first second-round pick in NFL history to get a fully guaranteed deal. Higgins had 87 catches for nearly 1,200 yards and nine touchdowns for the Cyclones last season.
