How you doing tonight, Eric? I'm doing good. How are you? Doing all right. I just read in the news that Ryan Ferguson won a civil suit.

And the courts awarded him like over $30 million. So interesting turn of events there. And I'm happy he's out and doing well. Yeah. I don't recall the exact episodes. It might've been episodes 34 and 35. We spoke with his father, uh,

And it was quite a thing, you know, dealing with the Ferguson case back then because they were hungry for people to get the word out. And so when I met with his father at a Starbucks, it was pretty surreal having someone say,

Thank you so much for helping to get the word out and to get the public to know who my son Ryan really was. And that meant a lot, you know, of course. But for us at the time, we were so early days that it just felt so strange. But it also kind of motivated us, I think. Yeah, it was definitely...

a change of events there, we felt like we were doing some good and not just, you know, I mean, we love doing the podcast, but when we can actually have purpose and help a family, it's just, it changes everything. Yeah. I think that's, um, that's the thing. If people ask us, you know, what is the reason you do the podcast? Um,

And I think so often you and I say it's getting people to change their mindsets or to understand how to look at things at times because there's usually a narrative and we try to break through that narrative and find what we think is important. Yeah.

And sometimes that's just the justice system. Sometimes it's understanding that the cops can't do absolutely everything. You know, there are budgets, there are, uh, qualified personnel. Sometimes they've got the wrong detective on a case. Sometimes there's something bad going on and we have to point it out. Uh,

or get people to understand why a law would not be a good law, why it would be ineffective, or why it would do harm. So with you and I, it's usually let's try and get people to see things, and that would be our primary motivation. Yeah, more education and understanding. Any other announcements, Aaron? Let's do the thing. So Aaron, tonight's case is an interesting one. It's about a woman who...

I feel does a deal with the devil for love and we can't choose who we fall in love with, but the devil, they can sure manipulate us. So with that, what are we talking about tonight?

Well, tonight we're talking about the case that was covered recently on Netflix under the title Jailbreak Love on the Run, which is all about Vicki White and an inmate who she was supposed to be keeping an eye on named Casey Cole White. And.

So Casey White was born August 20th, 1983.

He grew up into an intimidating person. He stood 6'9 and would be covered in tattoos, some of which represented the Southern Brotherhood, an Alabama-based white supremacy prison gang. He served three years in 2012 for beating his own brother and using an axe handle when he did it.

White had been constantly in and out of Limestone County Jail, west of Lauderdale, and at least once a year for an entire decade. So real great guy here.

In 2016, he received a 75-year sentence for various crimes committed during a crime spree in 2015 that spanned the states of Alabama and Tennessee. The crime spree began with the home invasion and spiraled into a carjacking at gunpoint, an injured victim, and high-speed police chase.

Former Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely revealed that White had shot at his ex-girlfriend.

killed her dog, and before heading next door, he held the neighbor at gunpoint and demanded his car keys. He then held up a married couple at a rest stop, and when they tried to drive away, he fired a gun into the back window, wounding the woman in the shoulder. White then carjacked another man's vehicle and sped off. The police chase ensued, which resulted in White's vehicle getting stuck in a field and him being surrounded by police deputies.

White threatened to kill himself, holding a gun to his head and demanding to see the sheriff. He only lowered the firearm when the sheriff, whom he knew by name, agreed to give him a soda pop. Sundrop, if you're wondering.

He was then handcuffed and detained. Yeah, this was a big deal. They thought he might shoot himself. He knew that he was in trouble. And as most people would be, he was fearful about being sent away for a long time into the prison system. But, you know, the sheriff was somewhat charming. He knew how to speak to Casey White. He was able to get through that plus the soda pop, obviously.

Now, before Casey White was sentenced in 2015, he told both his ex-girlfriend and his sister that he would kill them if he ever got out. Now, those who knew Casey White said that when Casey was nice, he was very nice. But when he was bad, when he was angry...

It was terrible. When drugs like methamphetamines were smuggled into the jail cell by new inmates, Casey would use them and become paranoid. He would threaten people with violence and murder, telling his cellmates that he had nothing left to lose.

Those in authority described him as manipulative. If he wanted something, he would be full of conversation and compliments, but they said he would shut down and ignore someone as soon as he realized that he wouldn't be getting what he wanted from them.

So he was serving out his sentence at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Alabama Department of Corrections Prison for men located in unincorporated Jefferson County, Alabama. Several years into his sentence in 2020, he allegedly confessed to the murder of Connie Ridgeway in a letter he penned to an investigator with the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Office. He was subsequently charged with two counts of capital murder.

White was interviewed about the murder and, according to media outlets, gave statements that matched up with the evidence found at the scene of the Ridgeway murder that was not known to the public. He was transferred from the correctional facility to a detention center in Lauderdale County while he awaited trial. Once detained at Lauderdale, he retracted his confession and went on to plead not guilty by reason of insanity.

But while he's waiting for trial at this other facility, this is more of a jail, not a prison. So it has different protocols, possibly lighter security, things like that to keep in mind. Now let's talk about Connie Jane Patterson Ridgeway because she's the woman who he confessed to killing. And this was a case that the authorities had no idea how to solve at this point.

Connie was born July 4th, 1956 in Athens, Alabama. She died at the age of 59 on October 23rd, 2015 at her home in Rogersville, Alabama. She was married twice. Her first marriage was to the father of her sons, Austin and Cameron. Her second marriage left her widowed in 2003. Her sons were Austin Williams and Cameron Williams.

Connie was considered to be a very patriotic and religious woman. She was a member of Clements Baptist Church of Athens, Alabama. Her family said she was very generous and loved by those around her for her kind and caring nature. She was very involved in her community, often driving her elderly neighbors around the local area to doctor's appointments or to go grocery shopping.

Now, at the time of her murder in 2015, she was 59 years old and lived with her dog Rambo at Meadowland Apartments on Prince Drive, across the street from Lauderdale County High School's football field. When her body was found, it was in the living room of her apartment by police who were there to perform a welfare check on October 23rd, 2015 at around 6 p.m.

It was clear she'd been stabbed to death. Authorities in Rogersville called the murder one of the most violent crimes they had ever seen. Family friend Mark White said, it might be the case that the person who killed Connie is watching right now. I want them to understand that we're standing against you. We're going to do what we can to find you. And I would like for you to turn yourself in and do the right thing.

But without any suspects in a murder case of such a beloved community figure, this case went cold. It stayed cold for five years until Casey White made his confession behind bars.

So understand at this point, the authorities are excited that someone has confessed, but there are doubts as to whether or not he was actually the perpetrator because, as a friend of ours would say, Dr. Scott from L.A. Not So Confidential, people who are incarcerated, especially people who are in there for life, are not so confident.

They have nothing but time and they will find all kinds of ways to keep things more interesting for themselves because they have nothing else to do. And sometimes they're trying to find ways to get a lesser sentence or get out. Now, while he's being held in Lauderdale County Detention Center, he meets 56-year-old Vicki White, who's the assistant corrections director.

And as we said, even though they have the same surname, they're not related at all. They're not married. There's no relationship there. Vicki Sue Davis was born August 19th, 1965. She'd married her high school sweetheart, a man named Tommy White in 2002. The two divorced several years later in 2006 due to Tommy's issues with addiction. She dated another man named Keith Gardner to whom she was engaged, a

However, he tragically died in a car wreck after being ejected from his vehicle as he was not wearing a seatbelt. So please wear your seatbelts. It makes the dinging noise stop. Vicki admitted that she started drinking following the tragic death of Keith, but she didn't have any children. She worked as an assistant director of corrections at the Lauderdale Detention Center, which

and had worked as a corrections officer for 17 years. Over the course of her career, she had won the employee of the year title four times. Those who knew her described her as the good girl who would do anything for anyone. She was a diligent worker. She had a tough job.

She clocked in 50, 60 hours per week with early mornings. Everyone looked up to her. Everyone went to her with questions. She was the go-to person. And she just was this work machine who essentially ran this place, knew everything that was going on. She'd been there for 17 years.

Even the inmates liked her. She treated them like human beings. And some of the younger inmates even said that she was kind of a mother figure to them.

So this is a woman who has worked her way up in this correctional institution and is looked up to. Highly trusted. So Casey met Vicki around August of 2020. It's believed that Vicki liked Casey White's country boy style. Specifically, it was mentioned that she noticed him standing in a cell, looking out the window, and she's walking by and he ended up shouting to her that she had a nice ass.

Now, apparently she told Casey White that the comment made her curious. This is something that stands out because this is the person who everybody trusts, Vicki White. And she always did everything by the book. She was the kind of person that would turn other people in if they were crossing the line.

Typically, if an inmate said something like this to any of the guards, they would be put in their place. They would be disciplined. There's protocol here. Instead, she doesn't discipline him. Instead, she takes this compliment and starts talking to him.

Yes, the only way to keep the jail in line is to keep all of the inmates in line. And once you accept that someone can say that to you, it starts to change things. Now, Casey and Vicki developed a relationship over the phone. Their connection with each other was clandestine. The content of the call is romantic in nature. They eventually would say they loved each other.

So this relationship over the phone was being done without anyone else's knowledge. It was secret. But as we know, her feelings about him and his feelings about her, those are things we'll get into because they may not be so clear cut. But during these conversations, Vicki ends up telling Casey that she loved him more than her first husband or her fiancee.

She called her fiance who died, who was ejected from the vehicle, a rebound. And Casey asked Vicki to promise that she would marry him when he got out and told her not to give any other man attention in front of him. She would reveal herself, you know, and sides of her personality and all of these things to Casey in these phone calls that she didn't to others. She would

was way more open with him than even her coworkers. She told him if she had been pretty enough, she would have liked to have been a stripper to which Casey replied that she was smoking hot.

The calls were often very explicit in nature. Other female officers who worked in the prison explained that male inmates would often try to charm female officers in order to get contraband smuggled in for them or favors for them. Vicki worked hard to expose these officers who would break the rules. She watched videos from inside the detention center and listened in on calls, which

She was the one that controlled the security and made sure that guards were kept in their place so they wouldn't break the rules with inmates. These things are happening. And even though the other officers aren't aware of them, some of the inmates are. There was an inmate who was sharing a cell with Casey White and said he noticed White was buying romantic cards at commissary. And Casey said, oh, these are being sent to my mother.

However, Casey would often ask how to spell words which were romantic in nature. So, of course, this inmate's not buying that they're going to his mom. He also noticed that when Vicki White would pass commissary items or letters through the hatch on the cell door, she would take back these love cards Casey had supposedly written to his mom, but the envelope did not have an address written on them.

And also, Casey's fellow cellmates would often be sent out for yard time, but Casey would be left behind, claiming that he was staying back to have a video call with his attorney.

This isn't known at the time, but the footage, which would normally be seen by Vicki, would later be seen by these other officers. And it would show Vicki going into the cell with Casey White. And it's pretty obvious that she was going in there to get physical with Casey and that there was no attorney call scheduled. And.

And obviously inmates, they know the score. There are several inmates who noticed something going on between the pair. One inmate blackmailed them on the outside for money. However, the inmates that were still sharing a cell with Casey had to go to the hospital.

had it in their best interest to keep the secret as they were getting extra commissary drops. So this is helping some of them, whereas others are trying to leverage it against them. Yeah. And the situation here is basically, if you know what's going on and then you get released, well, then you can reach back out and say, hey, I know what's going on and I can let everyone else know unless you pay me.

Casey would have to come up with a way to send money to this inmate. And Vicki is saying, yes, you need to take care of this. We can't let this get out. You know, it's not really just money, I think, for those that are on the inside still with Casey, because frankly, he's six foot nine and 280 pounds. That's not the kind of guy you want to tick off.

But I think Vicky was making sure they got extra drops because they were trying to really make sure that there were no issues because Casey could really upset people. He could have bad days and then you never know what someone might do, right? They might take a risk, but not with these extra commissary drops. Now they're like, Hey, everything's cool.

And so typically Vicki is a very professional and private person at work. So one day she's talking with her colleagues. They're talking about the dates they're going on or their husbands, whatever. And they're shocked because Vicki reveals that she's been dating two men and she shows them Christmas cards, one containing two folded hundred dollar bills, which they're like highly folded up.

you know, not just folded once over. So that's kind of interesting. Uh, Vicki doesn't say who these men are, but a coworker said that at the time she was happy for Vicki because she's like, I'm glad you've been single for a while. You, you know, you got a divorce and the other one died. So I'm happy that you're doing something. So in reality though, Vicki white had put everyone else around her first. And that included the inmates, uh,

And that left Vicki very stressed, tired, and lonely. Because she was the person who essentially ran this jail, this detention center, and she knew everything about it, knew what to do in every circumstance, she was the go-to person. So her phone was constantly ringing with people saying, hey, Vicki, can you help me with this? Hey, Vicki, what should we do here? And there comes a point where being that top reliable person, it's draining you.

And so she's visibly stressed. She's starting to get snappy and people start to worry about her. And she told one fellow worker that when she eventually retired, she would go out with a bang. That doesn't sound like a good comment, but you know, people say that stuff at work all the time.

On April 29th, 2022, the command staff for the detention center, including then Sheriff Rick Singleton and his deputy, were out of town in Birmingham at a graduation ceremony. It was also Vicki's final day at work because she had abruptly handed in her notice the day before.

It's a very strange situation. We've talked about this a number of times, Justin, where when you are in a very important position at your company or at your detention center, just turning in your notice the day before you're planning to not be there anymore, that's weird. And typically, when you turn in your notice at most jobs, especially jobs I had as an IT person,

I didn't get to finish out my two weeks or any notice that I gave. They would take my badge and walk me out the door and pay me for the remainder of my notice because typically the company would feel that it's too dangerous or I am a threat to company's data or well-being. And then you apply that to a detention center. Vicky, she runs everything. She's the go-to person. And she puts in one day of notice.

I would just assume you walk her out at the end of that day and do not allow her to come back the next day. But she's loved, she's trusted, and they're all leaving the next day to go to this other thing. So they need her there. They were actually gone that day. So this detention center has minimal staff.

And it's Vicki's last day. The remaining coworkers, they actually have a small birthday celebration. They have a small celebration in the break room, complete with a cake, meaning, wow, you're retiring. We're going to miss you. But Vicki, she's not really responding to this. She seems down and kind of aloof. She's not really paying attention to this. And they notice.

But maybe she's sad because she's retiring, right? Well, that just doesn't make sense to me because she just turned her notice in. So I don't know. I don't know if that's being sad because she didn't have to leave. In fact, they would have preferred that she not turn in her notice because they relied on her so much. You know, one of the things was, well, when Vicki leaves, who's going to take over? You know, they don't have someone waiting in the wings that does what she can do.

So it is minimal staff because normally there'd be 11 deputies, but now there are only five that day. 32 inmates were to appear in court that day, meaning employees who had days off were coming in to collect those inmates and then take them to court, but they weren't really working that day. So it's April 29th, 2022, Vicki White, along with inmate Casey White,

left the detention center at around 9.30 a.m. Casey was in both handcuffs and shackles, just as Vicki requested. Policy states that two sworn deputies should escort an inmate like Casey White. However, thus, this protocol was not followed. Vicki White was in charge of coordinating inmate transfers to the courthouse.

And this was likely why she was not questioned when escorting this man alone. Vicki told fellow officers that she was taking the inmate to a mental health assessment. However, no assessment had been scheduled. Mental health evaluations at the courthouse can often take several hours. So for a while, at least, nobody would realize that her and Casey were missing.

Yeah, they were not noticed as missing until around 3.30 in the afternoon when a deputy noticed Casey White was still not back in his cell and Vicki White had not responded to messages. And that's because they would turn a name of someone who was taken from their cell and then they would put the name back to normal when they were returned.

And so as the few deputies that were actually at the detention center were walking around, one of them noticed, wait a minute, if he was taken this morning, why is his name still turned? Why is he not back yet? So of course, people start reaching out to Vicki via phone and

But their messages, their calls, they go right to voicemail. So the courtroom Vicki was supposed to take Casey to that day was fully searched. There was no sign of them. So I think the first feeling was that Casey had somehow gotten the better of Vicki, even though she was very experienced and had taken her hostage or something.

So a be on the lookout, a bolo was put out for Vicki White, whom authorities believed at this point had been kidnapped by the six foot nine, 280 pound inmate. Because no one in their right mind would assume that Vicki would help someone escape from this detention center.

Yeah. The sheriff Rick Singleton said, knowing the inmate, I think she's in danger, whatever the circumstances, and he has nothing to lose. And so whether she assisted him or not, we don't know. And we won't address that until we have absolute proof, but that's what happened. We are assuming at this point, she was taken against her will unless we can absolutely prove otherwise. But regardless, even if she did assist, we think she is in danger.

This is someone who obviously understands things who's speaking here because he's saying, even if Vicky helped Casey, he's a dangerous man and she's in danger.

And he's not wrong. Even if she had something to do with it, she is in danger. They'll end up finding the vehicle that Vicki and Casey White had used around four miles away in front of an Academy Sports shopping center. This is in Florence, Alabama. Officers searched the abandoned vehicle. They found no sign of a struggle or force there.

The handcuff key was lying on the back seat. Casey White's prison-issued sandals were sitting on the floor.

There was no way Casey White could have used force against Vicki while he was restrained in the back of the vehicle, which is designed to separate the officer and the inmate. So they're thinking she might have done something to help him here because how did he get out of his handcuffs and all of these things when they're in this vehicle?

Yeah, even with his size, if he's seated in the back of this vehicle and he's restrained, there's no way he can reach her. So with that key, the handcuff key laying on the back seat, it's really clear that she had to have helped him. And this is a harsh thing because so many people loved and respected and trusted Vicki that seeing this caused some people to worry for her, but others, they got angry.

And they were not happy with Vicki at all. They felt like she had deceived them. With this discovery, it prompts them to go back and start going over all of the security tapes at the detention center.

And they're looking at the moments inside the detention center before Vicki and Casey leave. And it shows that Vicki had let down her guard while escorting Casey to the transport vehicle. Typically, protocol dictates that the officers walk behind the inmate. And in this footage, Casey was walking behind Vicki because...

Because an inmate can attack an officer from behind. So the officers always let the inmate walk in front of them. You know, Vicky's holding doors open for Casey and walking in front of him.

She's not even looking at him when she's doing this, too. She's basically just holding the door open, knowing he's walking behind her. Yeah, that shows she trusts him. So this kind of seals the deal on anyone that thought she was kidnapped or overpowered by him. Now they know that she definitely was in on this.

Armed officers went to Vicki's home to look for her, but it was empty. Her parents, who lived just basically next door, explained that Vicki had been living with them and had recently sold her house. She got around $95,000 for that home, and it was far less than she could have gotten had she taken her time. It seemed like she took the first deal that was offered.

Her family was unaware that Vicki had been planning to bust out an inmate and go on the run. So they're in the dark. And it was quite obvious to the officers who spoke with her parents. At her parents' house, they found Vicki's purse sitting on her bed containing her ID and driver's license. They also found bank records that showed she had recently withdrawn a very large sum of money from the bank. They also looked at receipts.

They noticed that each time she went grocery shopping, she would purchase an additional item, such as a duffel bag, a sleeping bag, or some other article of traveling or camping equipment. This was likely to avoid buying the supplies in one shot and looking suspicious. It's weird. She was operating as though she was being watched, and so she thought this was a way to get away with this. Alarmingly, she had also purchased various firearms.

And they will go on to discover that she'd been using a burner phone to make phone calls to Casey White from November, 2020 to February of 2022. This is why they weren't able to track it back to her. And she was the one that was listening in on calls. So no one knew that she had done.

done this. In total, there were more than a thousand phone calls made. The phone number was specifically used for calls to Casey White. So she really hid her actions here.

If you watch the documentary, you'll be able to hear some of these calls. They don't play all of them, obviously. That would take many, many episodes to cover. But Vicki talked very romantically to Casey, but she also kept bringing up how important it is that they not explicitly discuss their plans. And she also said, don't Google anything pertaining to the plans because he had access to a tablet.

But while she was saying this, they would slip up and they would say certain things about where they would go, what they might do. When it comes down to it, obviously no one else was listening in. No one else was able to look over what they were doing. So they were able to get away with it at the time. But she did have knowledge that anything they said or Googled or whatever could all be track traced or recorded. And

And that police vehicles had GPS, that cell phones pinged off towers, that prison phone calls were recorded. So she knew all of this, but regardless, they still would slip up and talk about things like purchasing firearms or camping equipment. And Casey also talked about how he wanted to live out in the backwoods of Tennessee, ready to shoot anyone who came anywhere near the place that he dreamed of living with Vicki in, far away from society.

Vicky left her ID behind, which investigators wanted to check unclaimed inmates' property too. They accessed Vicky's computer and discovered that she had been searching for IDs in unclaimed inmate property resembling both Casey White and herself.

Well, what this means is she left behind her ID. So it's obvious she's probably trying to get a different ID to use when she's on the run, as well as ID for her new love, Casey White. So they're looking at her computer and they see that she's looking for IDs for people who would kind of match their ages or they would resemble them.

It would later come out, she asked another inmate if he was able to get fake IDs. And she said she wanted to go to Mexico. Now, at the time, it wasn't, I want to go to Mexico and run away. It was, I want to go to Mexico and I just want to use another ID and not my own. But anyone that's in the fake ID making business, they know there are a lot of reasons for wanting a fake ID.

So investigators ended up discovering that a couple of weeks before the actual escape, Vicki had taken Casey out of the detention center in what they believe to be a test run. Vicki claimed she was taking the inmate to the courthouse and she disappeared for under 10 minutes before bringing him back through a side door to avoid deputies who were booking in new inmates at the time and would have questioned her.

And this was also in the documentary. You can see where she's saying there are a lot of people there. We're going to have to find another way in so we can avoid them. Because that's weird. I mean, you take a guy out to go to the courthouse and you're only gone for eight to ten minutes. Yeah. I mean, she has all of this inside knowledge. And she knows how they hunt down suspects that have escaped. She knows all the protocols. So this is going to be a challenge for officers to catch this couple. Yeah.

That's ShipStation.com, code Gen Y. Vicki White's personal vehicle was abandoned 40 miles away in the parking lot of a shopping center in Rogersville. This is the same Rogersville where Connie Ridgeway was murdered.

officers obtained the surveillance camera footage found earlier of Vicki wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses, getting out of her personal vehicle and walking to the other side of the parking lot to a Ford Edge SUV that appeared to be either red or orange in color. I believe it ended up being orange. They contacted local car dealerships until they found the one that sold Vicki the vehicle and they started tracking down this Ford Edge.

The issue, a warrant for Vicki White for charges of permitting or facilitating escape in the first degree in connection with a capital murder suspect. The police during a press interview would say if she did this willingly and all indications are that she did, I guess we're trying to hold on to that last straw of hope that maybe for some reason she was threatened and did this under coercion, but absolutely you'd feel betrayed.

So this is making the news, but no tips of the couple's whereabouts are coming in until several days into what would be an 11-day manhunt across 200 miles through several states. There was a man in Spring Hill, Tennessee, about a one and a half hour drive from Lauderdale who

called in a tip saying he had towed a car of a similar description. Vicky and Casey likely abandoned the Ford Edge after seeing it on the news. Now, police, they got ahold of this vehicle and they found black spray paint around the wheel rims, which seemed to be a crude attempt to change the color of the vehicle from orange to black. And they

They say that possibly Vicki started to do it and then Casey took over that duty, but then they decided just to abandon the vehicle.

On day 10, a man who had sold a Ford F-150 pickup truck to another person fitting the description of Casey White called the police and said, hey, I think I might have sold my truck to this man. So they put that out there. The next day, a car wash owner in Evansville, Indiana called in a tip to the police reporting that they had found the Ford F-150 abandoned at a car wash.

Now, you had said that they'd spray painted this one and now they're abandoning this truck at a car wash.

Now, a car wash, you can't see this vehicle from the road. But if you leave a car at a car wash, it's going to be found almost immediately because people wash their cars and then they move on. So a car that's been there for a day is going to be very suspicious. So it sounds like Casey's the one that's making the calls now.

Because I perceive this as being a very stupid decision to spray paint one vehicle and leave another one at a car wash. It would have been better to leave these vehicles in a neighborhood on a street.

Yeah. It's really stupid. Yeah. It just would be less conspicuous. Yeah. And that's where obviously Casey shouldn't be in charge because he doesn't know as much as Vicky probably, but he's the guy in charge now. So there's actual footage from the car wash showing Casey white drive, the Ford F one 50 into a bay before getting out and tucking a gun into the waistband of his trousers. And then walking to the road where he climbed into a gray Cadillac with Vicky at the wheel and,

And the police are now searching for a Cadillac. So no matter how much they try to change vehicles to get the police to lose their trail, well, the police, even though they feel frustrated, they're actually doing a pretty good job of staying on the trail.

And they just realized that since this couple keeps changing vehicles, it will make it challenging, but they're doing their best to stay on it. Police realized Vicki and Casey hadn't made much ground. They had been on the run for a little over 10 days. They began searching for a Cadillac around the local area. They found the vehicle parked outside a motel in Evansville, Indiana.

And then a pizza delivery driver said he delivered a pizza to room 150. And the two people inside that room, he recognized as matching the description of Vicki and Casey White. So he delivers a pizza to a room and they both come to the door to accept the pizza.

You would just assume that one or the other would deal with the pizza delivery driver, or they would tell him, just leave it outside the door. But no, they both come to the door and interact with this man. Yeah, I don't know. I almost got the feeling that Casey was just in the room. But either way, they didn't try to figure out a plan for this situation. They just acted like they were a normal couple. When, yeah, if anybody sees them, they might call in a tip or they might cooperate with law enforcement. Didn't

It didn't seem real bright, but obviously officers are going to make a plan because they don't want to mess this up. But then, you know, Vicki and Casey, they are a little paranoid. They become aware that they're being monitored. So they have to make a decision here. And like you said, it seems like Casey's in charge. So he makes the decision. They leave the motel in the gray Cadillac, and this is at high speed and police vehicles have to give chase.

Now they're running from police and they're on the streets. And at some point they decide to go off-roading with this Cadillac, this SUV, and they go into a kind of a grassy ditch. And once you are no longer on the road and once you no longer have other innocent vehicles driving around, you

the police are going to come down upon you with great vengeance because they don't have to worry about other citizens now. So as soon as they go off the road, about five police SUVs just start smashing into their vehicle and it ends up flipping over onto its side. Now it's believed that Vicki might've accidentally called 911 and they could be heard panicking inside the vehicle or

Unlike Casey, who had been involved in many police chases, Vicki can be heard saying, oh my God, the airbags are going to kill us as police are ramming the Cadillac. She said, we should have stayed at the hotel. Let's get out and run. Now on this 911 call, the Cadillac, you can hear it crashing and rolling. And Vicki says, Casey,

And then that's followed by the sound of a gunshot and silence. There's body cam footage of dozens of officers surrounding the car and they're pointing guns at Casey. Casey White is pulled from the vehicle and cuffed.

He can be heard asking the officers to check on her and he repeatedly asked, he repeatedly said, "That's a damn good woman right there." And Vicky was pulled from the car. She was still breathing at the time, but she had a wound on her head. At first they assumed that she had gotten it during this wreck, during this crash, but they're both rushed to the hospital and

And Vicky is pronounced dead from a single gunshot wound to her head.

The shot was strangely to the back of the head, leading some to speculate that it may have been an accident. Although some kind of wondered if Casey had shot Vicki. Casey Cole White was charged with escape in the first degree. Lauderdale County Sheriff Rick Singleton said of Casey White's recapture, we've got a dangerous man off the street today. He is never going to see the light of day again. It's obvious because he was already serving a 75 year sentence and

And now he's facing other charges.

Casey White was also indicted on felony murder for causing the death of Vicki White. Now, this is not because they believe he shot her. They just believe that by his actions, she ended up dead. So he's responsible. Now, Casey White reached a plea deal in May of 2023, pleaded guilty to first degree prison escape. Pleading guilty meant that he would not be tried for felony murder in the death of Vicki White. He continues to serve his life sentence at Donaldson Prison.

Now he goes on to talk about Vicki White again, Justin. Yeah. He insists that he loved Vicki and that she wanted to break him out because other felons who had committed worse crimes were out of prison. And while Casey was still sitting there rotting, so she was a damn good woman who was going to break him out because they loved each other. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. In other words, why are these other people out? You should be out too. And she just felt like that's what made the difference, I guess, because as we said, she would turn other people in for just even having a small conversation with an inmate. And here she is developing a pretty big romantic relationship with an inmate, but there's no one there to keep an eye on it because there was so much trust and responsibility put on Vicki White.

So now, of course, with this handled, there are now questions regarding Connie Ridgway's murder. Lauderdale County District Attorney Chris Connolly said of Casey White's confession,

We have corroborated parts of that confession and parts we have not. He has recanted that. So, you know, we think we have a solid case against him. We feel confident we will convict him. We have corroborated with the burglary charge based on what we know about the crime scene and so forth. We have not corroborated the murder for hire. So when later asked if he thought Casey White's confession to the murder of Connie Ridgeway was part of his plan with Vicki White, he

Connolly responded, our case against him is not based solely on his statement, adding that he had never questioned the legitimacy of the confession. But with prosecutors suspending the capital murder case against him for Connie Ridgway's death, it seems that we're probably not going to get answers anytime soon in this case. So before we get into the relationship between Casey and Vicki White, let's talk real quick about the murder of Connie Ridgway.

Justin, it seems like they're doubling down and saying, we believe the confession, but

How do you see this? Because they've sort of left it behind for now. I guess it's he's behind bars. He's going to be for life. They want to find justice here, but it's no longer a priority. Maybe is that kind of what you feel or that's sort of the what I'm picking up. That's part of it. I think if they had more evidence against him, they would move on this.

to make sure there was justice for Connie Ridgeway's family and for her. But, you know, all they have is this confession. And before the confession, they had nothing.

And so I think they're doing their best to show that, look, he confessed. So we've got that and we're looking at it, but they're not moving on it. And maybe it's like what you said. I mean, he's not ever going to get out of prison again unless someone breaks him out again. So it may not be a priority because they don't have enough to move on him and be assured that he will return.

be found guilty. So without that confidence, this probably is not a priority. But anybody that's seen Jailbreak, Love on the Run, or has listened to our episode, or was at our live show in Massachusetts recently in October, when we covered this with Dr. Scott from LA Not So Confidential, a lot of people wonder, was this real love? And as Dr. Scott said at our live show,

Love. That's something we really have to define because anybody can feel love, but it doesn't necessarily mean that both people in that relationship are in love. There might be more at play here. Yeah. He, he has to deal with inmates and whatnot on a, on a daily basis. So he talks about how all these inmates have is time. And even if they don't have any plans to get out of prison, they,

They're bored and all they want to do is just make their life more interesting. So a lot of them are narcissists, are sociopathic. They have no care. And so they can manipulate. They can latch on to any single thing that you say. There was a perfect example he gave. He said, when an inmate asks you, how are you doing today?

You say, fine. You say, great. Because if you ever say not good today, they'll take that and they'll use it and be like, oh, why aren't you doing good today? Maybe I can help with that problem. And so with this case, it's obvious to me that Vicki was just being manipulated the entire time. As much as Casey will say, that's a damn good woman and I loved her.

Did he? Does he even know? Is he even conscious of his actions? Or is he just in this manipulated autonomous mode where that's all he knows how to do is manipulate others to get what he wants?

Yeah, I think it's obvious Vicki loved Casey. I think we can't discount what a person goes through when they go for years without having any love and when all they do is work and so many people rely on them. It's draining. So for her, this was worth all of the risk because she finally found someone who she felt loved her and could care for her.

On the other side, Casey, well, he was looking at never getting out again. So anything he can get from this woman, whether it's even just a nice word or some physical attention or to have her break him out, this is all just icing on the cake. He needed her. And as we know, Casey White would get violent or upset if someone wasn't willing to help him.

In this case, Vicki bent over backwards to help him. So of course he's going to say he loved her and that that's a damn good woman because she was doing what he wanted. I mean, the only time there was any trouble was when they were on the run and they left the motel. And I guess Vicki White got really upset with Casey yelling at him about, we shouldn't have left the motel. But I mean, for the most part,

She let him run the show. Things happen because he wanted them to happen and she complied. So it's not really a case of, did they love each other? It was a case of,

Vicki loved Casey and Casey knew he could manipulate her to do basically whatever he wanted. You talked for a while about Dr. Scott's thoughts and he was on our live show with us. And that was great because he's actually from Alabama and could speak a lot on this whole situation because of his experience.

So I went into this thinking they loved each other and she broke them out so they could go live this, you know, happily ever after life. But after Dr. Scott kind of enlightened me, I,

You know, it's, it's good to know. And I, I highly recommend that people listen to LA not so confidential because you'll get, uh, two, two doctors talking about these things. Yeah. Dr. Scott and Dr. Shiloh. Uh, we bring them up, especially because we had a great live show out in Massachusetts at the Berkshire podcast event. And,

And we'll be hopefully seeing another one pop up next year. So if you get a chance, if you can be in that area next year, if it comes off like we think it will, you should go because not only we see us live, but you'll see other podcasts as

And it's just a great event. So we were going to cover this on our main feed, and then we ended up doing it for the live show. And then we enjoyed talking about it so much that we wanted to stick with it and do it for the live feed still, the main feed still, even though we'd already done the live show. Well, let us know what you guys think. And if you'd seen the documentary yet, we'd love to hear your thoughts.
