The power of a podcast extends well beyond plugging in the mic. So if you're ready to learn how it can help you build a big business, then I'm your best friend. Hi, I'm Joanne Bull and I am obsessed with all things podcasting and creating an unapologetically big revenue business with it. From podcast guesting to podcast hosting and everything in between, we're going to dive into it all and show you step by step.

by Awesome Step, how using a podcast can and will grow your business. So grab a glass of wine and pop your headphones on because girlfriend happy hour has begun here on The B Word.

Welcome back to the B word, everyone. Join me for a cup of coffee as I sit here and ruminate over my journey and pathway into podcasting. I'm going to fill you in a little bit on kind of my journey and you know how I got into the whole podcasting space and why I think it is such a powerful medium for anyone's business, irregardless of what they're doing.

So when I came out of real estate, I started listening to podcasts. It was a natural transition for me because quite frankly, I love to read. I will read anything. Send me any book. I will sit down and listen to it. And I would much prefer to be in my car on a long trip or at the beach with a good audible book in my ear. So when I discovered podcasts, not the NPR kind of newsy podcast, but other kind of podcasts,

It was such a great way for me to consume knowledge and consume information. And I felt like I really got to know the podcast hosting. So if you think back to my real estate career, I built the whole thing on sphere. I built the whole thing on relationships. And for me, podcasting and listening to the women and the men over the airwaves was another form of that. But here's where it gets really powerful. And I want you to hone in on this.

So I found Amy Porterfield. She has the podcast, Online Marketing Made Easy. Many, many, many, many listeners, tons of downloads. I think she reaches about a million downloads per episode. And I was listening to Amy...

Talk about list building, an email list. And I was someone who hated email lists. I unsubscribed with regularity from any email that anyone ever put me on. Don't know if it was because of my personality and my manifesting gen or because coming out of the real estate world,

It's like no one pays any attention to the rules of email etiquette and that you can't just subscribe someone without their permission. When you have a public email like mine was at Keller Williams and then eXp Realty, everyone puts you on their list. So my inbox is over flooded at all times.

Now I'm listening to Amy Porterfield one day and realized, oh my gosh, maybe I have it wrong. Maybe email lists are a powerful thing. Maybe in this entrepreneurial digital world that I was building, I needed to realign my thinking on email lists. And so I signed up for one of her quick and dirty like little boot camps that she did.

And it was awesome. I mean, she taught me a ton about landing pages and funnels and email list building. And I started to get into email list building. So if you're paying attention, here's the first thing I want you to hone in on. I started listening to a podcaster. I then picked up on what they were teaching me about.

It was a complete mind shift difference from anything I'd ever thought about said subject. Then I went and learned from them on the subject. And now I have a completely different attitude about email list building. I also really loved Amy. I loved how she explained things. I felt like she was a friend of mine. I felt like I could sit down on the living room couch with her. And then she introduced me to a little old girl named Jenna Kutcher. Now,

I sometimes feel at this point that I am the only person who did not know who Jenna Kutcher was. But again, I came out of real estate and well, we were very focused, let's just say that, on real estate related people. And Jenna Kutcher and Amy Porterfield were just not in our world. So she introduced me to Jenna Kutcher. Now, Jenna also has about a million downloads per episode.

So if you're in the digital world, you're probably legitimately thinking, how in the world did you not know Jenna Kutcher? But I didn't. I was introduced to her from listening to Amy Porterfield. And after listening to Jenna, I got hooked on her podcast, The Gold Digger, started listening to Jenna. And lo and behold, what did I do? I purchased from Jenna. So now we've got two podcasters that I began listening to.

I already knew about the stuff that they taught, but because I trusted them, I liked them, I enjoyed their episodes, I ended up putting money into their pocket. Hell, I even bought the Jenna Kutcher course on podcasting and I already had my podcast. But I thought, well, maybe she can teach me a little nugget or two that I didn't already know. And then I bought her Pinterest course because why not? Pinterest was something that I used, but maybe she could teach me something a little bit more in depth. The power of podcasting

comes in the way that you really consider your relationships. Amy was someone I found probably by accident. I just randomly found her podcast. She introduced me to Jenna Kutcher. That's a relationship now that I listened to both of theirs and I have purchased from them.

So imagine what would happen if you took your business and you took your podcast and you had someone else mention your business or your podcast on theirs. Imagine what the word of mouth and the power of podcasting could do for your business. Let me give you another example. At one of my first masterminds this year, we were sitting there and Lindsay Schwartz, who has the Powerhouse Women podcast, it was her mastermind.

And she brought in some speakers and she said, oh, and of course, this next girl needs no introduction. And it was Lori Harder. Now I'm sitting there thinking, am I the only person in this room who has no clue who Lori Harder was? Because I didn't. But I got introduced to Lori Harder. Why? Because I had been listening to the Powerhouse Women podcast, you know, decided to purchase something that they were offering the mastermind.

went and learned about Lori Harder. Lori Harder has her podcast, Earn Your Happy. And I started listening to it. And here's, again, the power of podcasting is I have never really purchased anything from Lori, but her husband, Chris, gets on the podcast with her. They talk all the time. And now Chris's podcast is one that is on daily rotation in my podcast player.

So it's one of those things where they may not realize that I came from listening to Lori, from being introduced at Lindsay Schwartz's mastermind.

But because I began to trust, like, and listen to Lori, I then had a natural inclination to go over and listen to Chris. And I've had many conversations with him about his elite level mastermind and his roundtable events and a few other things that he's got going on in his world. So that podcast that it's hard sometimes, you guys, I'm not going to lie. It is hard when you're podcasting and you're staring at

into the wall talking to your microphone, and you have no idea who's listening and no idea who's paying attention, it's hard sometimes to really realize that that podcast is a main marketing tool for your overall business. But if you think back to my first examples, how I listened to Amy purchase one of her offers, she inadvertently introduced me to Jenna Kutcher.

I purchased some of Jenna's offers. I went on a mastermind because I was listening to the podcast of Lindsay Schwartz. I got introduced to Lori Harder. By listening to Lori, I got introduced into Chris's world. This is something that it's really hard to track. It's really hard to justify on your P&L any business that I have put into the worlds of these people that came from their podcast. But they did.

Because I love their podcast. I got to know the host of the podcast, or at least I felt like I did, which is how most of your audience is. And then I trusted them enough that when they put the offer out there, I raised my hand and said, sure, it's time. So I will pose this question to you guys. And I would love to hear back from you. So text me at 678-736-8055. And tell me, how did you find out about my podcast, The B Word?

Who would you like me to introduce you to? Who do you need in your world? Or what other podcast is in regular rotation for you? Because maybe it's one that I need to listen to. All right, you guys, just remember your message is important to someone. So go put a microphone on it.

You just finished another episode of the B-Word Podcast. Cheers to you. If I were with you, I would literally pop a big old bottle of Prosecco and pour you a glass. Since I'm not, why don't you do the next best thing and share this episode with one of your besties? Because we all know you've got that one girlfriend that needs to hear it. Thanks, friends.
