Trow, the host of The Motivated Mompreneur and I actually did an interview on her podcast all about the new network that we have opened called Podcast Her Network. She is a founding member of it. I am the owner and founder of it. And we dived into all the logistics behind it.

the thought process, why she chose to move her podcast over to the podcast, her network, and all the excitement of what's to come. Plus, it gives you a little bit of a peek inside the Motivated Mompreneur podcast, which is one I highly recommend you put on your personal playlist. All right, guys, here it is, Amy Trowell and I on her podcast, The Motivated Mompreneur. Take a peek.

Welcome back to the Motivated Mompreneur podcast. I am joined with a guest that I have had on the podcast before, and I am super excited that she is back because she is doing something epic. Like seriously, make sure you listen to this entire episode because at the end of the episode, we are revealing something that we've been working on behind the scenes that I have been so excited to talk about, but I've had to keep my mouth shut.

So Joanne, welcome back into the podcast. Super excited to have you here with me today. Oh, Amy, thanks for having me back. I am as excited as you are for what we are dropping soon. It has been all I can think about is considering

consumed everything in me ever since I decided to move forward with this project. And obviously, you and I have just had this connection ever since we met over the podcast. And oh my gosh, I'm just so I'm so excited to be here. Yes, yes. I love it. I absolutely love it. So for those of our listeners that aren't super familiar with you, tell us kind of the the cliff notes version of yourself, who you are, what you do and who you serve.

Yeah. So my name is Joanne Bolt and I am from Atlanta, Georgia. If you can't tell by the Southern accent, I've been told it's quite strong. I don't hear it, but you know, there it is. And I am the host of the B word podcast. And I love to help women who are podcasters get their message out to the world and grow a business behind their podcast.

Guys, so, so powerful and needed. I love what you do. You are like truly the podcasting guru. And I love that because I have learned so much from you. Seriously, like, let's go in a little bit like to our story with how we met. I still remember, like, isn't it just kind of weird and serendipitous how life happens? Like, I remember when I was a kid, I was a kid, I was a kid, I was a kid, I was a kid,

I remember one of my mentors, Jillian Murphy, I was listening to her podcast and she had a guest on, Jenna Klaffelstein, that is in the Columbus area. So I'm up in Ohio. And so I'm like, well, that sounds really cool. Columbus is two hours away. Like, I'll go to this event. So I go down to Columbus and there's this woman sitting behind me and she's in this

pink like blazer and I'm like, oh, you know me, I love everything pink. I mean, if you can't tell, if you've ever seen me like on camera in my office, I've got this bright pink glitter background. I'm just all things like bold, loud pink. I'm like, oh, I need to talk to her. So I go over and we start talking and that was like the beginning of everything, right? Like I still remember you whipped out your necklace like, hi, I'm Joanne Bolt. Like, you know, like the lightning bolt and your necklace had a little light. I had the lightning bolt necklace on, which

I love that thing. I can't believe it's been less than a year, honestly, since we met. I know. I feel like it's been forever, but it's been six months, right? Six months since people- Something like that. Yeah. Yeah. It's absolutely crazy. And since then, I've gone to this awesome retreat mastermind that you hosted in your home back in August, which was amazing. And you have another one coming up here in January, right? Yeah.

January. Yep. January 18th. Yeah. So, I mean, it's just wild by putting yourself out there, by doing the things that are like, I don't know, like, let's just do it. Let's see where it goes. Like how much of an impact it's had on my life. It's so cool. It is so cool. So, but I really want to dive into collaboration and community and the importance of that because I

As a fellow podcaster, you know that and you value that dearly. So I want to know, like, how has collaboration helped you grow your podcast and get to where you are? I mean, you've got a top 2% podcast now. It's crazy. I love it. I can't believe it still. This is my job. Yes. This is real life. You know, collaboration for me is one of those things. It started out fuzzy.

And the more and more I figure out how and who I want to collaborate with, it's gotten more clear over time. You know, I started out like most podcasters. I'm going to do some interviews. Let me get anyone on the podcast that is willing to be on the podcast. And that is not forming community. That is not forming collaboration. That is literally checking the box for your podcast. You know, you think you're doing your listener a service and you're really not.

But over the last couple of years with the B word, I have

I've started to hone in that craft of the reality is my podcast is there for my listener. It's not here for me. It's for me to pour into my community that's listening where I come into play as a person. And as the podcast pours into me is when I have those right people on the podcast, it's taken that time after we hit record or before we hit record to say, Hey, how can I add value to you?

How can I amplify your business? What's going on in your life? And when I started doing that and really realizing that everyone behind the microphone is

you know, a human just like I am. And they're amazing humans. We started realizing, oh my gosh, I have a conference. Can you come speak at it? Or can you give it a shout out? Does your audience, you know, could they come to this conference? Oh, how can we do this? You know, a good editor. I don't currently love mine. Like, let me try yours. And all those little things from the money-making aspects, like conferences or speaking gigs,

To the, I need a new editor for my podcast. You know, all those things with running a podcasting business got easier and my community, my world shrank. And so now it feels like I can't always remember how I even meet people or how I get in connection with them. It feels like my whole world is one big linked arm circle. But the truth is it's because I've gotten a lot better at pulling those collaborations together and that community feel. Yeah.

Yeah. Yeah. And that right there, you said so many things that were so powerful. You know, your podcast, you said, it's not for me. It's for my listener. Like that right there, just making that small mindset shift, that's powerful. That is so, so powerful because a lot of times we do, we get wrapped up in that me, me, me mentality. If you seek to serve,

That's power. That's what it's all about. That's where you can transform your podcast from this little podcast into like you say all the time, your chief marketing officer. It's doing the work for you because it's opening you up to those opportunities. I mean, if you think about it, a podcast is.

It's like that first interview that you don't even know you're having with someone. And that's why you don't need to get on your podcast and always be talking about your next sell or your next offer or the next thing that's going to bring money in. Because the reality is the listener who's listening to the podcast, they're not listening to find out what you sell. They're listening to find out who in the hell you are.

And if they like you, they're going to buy from you. You're the only person they'll buy from. And if they don't fall in love with you over the AirPod waves, then that's okay. They weren't the right customer for you. They weren't the right client for you.

And so if you always go into your podcast with that mindset of it's about them, not me, this is my interview for them. And I don't even know I'm having it. Then everything just gets easier. Guys, it's not as hard as we're making it out to be. No, it's so simple. It's hard, actually. Exactly. I mean, especially for overcomplicators like myself. And something else you mentioned too was just those relationships. At the end of the interview, building those relationships with your guests

I mean, that, again, opens up so many doors because you're seeking to serve. You're providing value to them. Because when we shift from that scarcity mindset into an abundance mindset, hoo-wee, like some major stuff can start happening there.

Well, and think about it. If you're looking for people to be on your podcast and you stop being a charcuterie board of interviewees and you start only bringing in the right people for your listener, then it becomes a very simple ask at the end. Hey, Amy, who do you know in your world that would be great for my listener? Would you mind making an introduction?

That's it. That's all it takes. And suddenly you don't need to have a bunch of people, you know, pitching people onto your podcast. You don't need to go be begging people to be on your podcast. It is as easy as a relationship building. Amy, who do you know that should be on my podcast? Do you mind making a recommendation? And they will nine out of 10 times, usually two or three.

That's amazing. I mean, it's as simple as asking, but how often do we hold ourselves back and we don't ask because we assume, we assume, oh, that's going to be too much of a burden on her. But like, it makes me feel good when I can connect people. So I love when people come to me with an ask like that because I love connecting them. So it's helping them. And it's, it's just this mutual benefit.

Because we are stronger together. You cannot build a business alone. And this is something that you even did within your prior careers. When you were working in real estate, when you were working in educating women on how to run sororities that were successful, and you did a damn good job of it.

It's so funny. I taught people how to have conversations in the sorority world. And I taught real estate agents how to have good conversations that will, you know, land the client. I didn't even realize that's what I was doing. You know, someone asked me the other day, do you have a framework for success? And I'm like, probably, but I'm going to need someone to follow me around and tell me what I do over and over again to write the framework down.

And that's not a humble brag. Like it does, it comes so naturally that you don't realize that you're doing it. But I'm like, honestly, if I look back over the course and progression of what I've done, I have always taught people how to have good conversations. Yeah.

And that is a skill. That's something that a lot of people struggle with now. I even noticed this in my past career, too. A lot of people, they're so addicted to their phones that they can't talk to each other. They can't just be a human. And that's what we forget to do as well. Just even on social media, we're always, you know, getting these. That's the worst.

awful, slimy pitches. And it's just like, what are you doing? Like, just be a human. Just, you know, build that relationship first.

Yeah. You know, and if you're wondering like how to really revamp your conversation or your social media, honestly, look at who you're following and who you're not following. Don't do the things that the people you don't like to follow are doing. You'll notice a pattern with the people you follow, how they talk, how they think, how they act. You don't have to have the same color fonts and, you know, colors and fonts and the look to your Instagram or whatever.

you know, flow to your podcast. But if someone's always on their podcast or in their Instagram, begging you to follow them, begging you to buy from them, doing something that repels you, your audience is going to be the same way. Don't do it to them.

Yeah, it almost comes across as desperate, like they're needy and it just doesn't feel good. But when you are leaning into what feels good, that's when you're attracting your people to you. And I like your advice too, like look at who you're following, what attracts you to that? And then sometimes too, you know, we get so wrapped up in what everybody else is doing that we forget

that we get to make the rules and we can do things in whatever way feels good to us. And that's what's going to make us stand out. And it's scary to stand out and be the trailblazer because you, as Lindsay Shortside, you have to be misunderstood by a few to create an impact for so many. And that's something that you're doing right now. You are completely trailblazing something that

in the podcasting world. And I want you to give us all of the details. First of all, what is it and why? What was your why behind it? Oh my gosh, the why. First, there was a lot of wine involved and a lot of like ugly cry on the bathroom floor involved. Not because of the wine. The wine probably came because of the ugly cry on the floors. But here's the thing.

Most like most people, entrepreneurs, I was like, okay, what can I bring to the world? Do I want to do a digital course? And I started to create a digital course. And then I was like, I do not love creating digital courses. And when I really sat back and took inventory on that, it's because of every digital course I've ever taken, I've never finished one. So while I may eventually throw one out there just as, you know, a small and easy one, it didn't feel good to me.

And then I was like, okay, well, I'm going to teach and I'm going to coach female entrepreneurs. And I opened up this quote unquote membership and it was called podcast, her, the network.

Right. And it was a legitimately, I looked at what everyone else was doing and they were creating memberships where you pay, you know, like boss babe, the society or Jillian Murphy's got, you know, the sales queen collective, like you, even Lindsay Schwartz with powerhouse women, you, you join it either a yearly or a monthly rate. You get a Facebook group, you get a monthly phone call. And like, it was all about building community. And I thought, okay, podcasters need that.

I mean, that was cute, right? Of course we need that. And so I started that and it, it didn't take off. And I had to do that ugly cry, sit down and say, why is this not taking off? And then I was talking to one of my mentors and he kicked me in the ass over the zoom. And he was like, well,

How many of those groups have you joined? And I, I started counting off. I was like, Oh, this one, this one, this one, this one. And he's like, well, how, how many of them do you go? You know, do you get involved with on a daily basis? Crickets weekly basis crickets. How many do you start have, you know, hot and heavy on. And then three months later, you can't even remember that you paid for the membership. I'm like, Oh my God, every last one of them.

And he said, well, why are you doing that? And I said, because I understand the importance of when you're running a podcast, you're very lonely. You're behind the microphone or you're talking to people on a zoom and it's really hard to grow that podcast. It's really hard to get that audience. You feel like, you know, all I have to do is get behind the mic and then throw some stuff on social media and you just feel like it's going nowhere. So I understood the need for community. Well, then I realized something and here's,

Here's like that, that moment that changed everything for me every single day for the past year and a half, I have sat down and there is a particular podcasting network out there and I have applied to be part of said network. And I never hear back from them and I never hear back from them. And I'm like, Oh, I'm just getting lost in the wave of people wanting to be part of this network. Well, then I started reverse engineering and looking into it. There's only like 20 podcasts in that whole network. So I,

Either they're not accepting a lot or nobody wants to be part of it. And so I kept investigating it. No, they have all these top podcasts, right? And I was like, surely there's something there. And I went and I found a talk that

a network panel at one of the podcasting conferences. And I sat and I listened to that whole conversation. I probably listened to it like four or five times. And here's the key piece. Every one of those people who was running a network said almost the same thing. We are here to help podcasters grow. Our podcasters are top percent and medium-sized podcasters. And then one person from the audience asked the question,

She raised her hand and she was super brave. Her name is Crystal. I adore her and I know her. And, and she said, well, what's the average download for your smallest podcast in your network? Do you know what all of them said? If you really averaged it out amongst all of them, 500,000 downloads per episode, that was what they considered a tiny podcast.

Well, I know I sat back. I was like, oh, hell no. That is not like that. That's a ginormous, like, oh my God, that's a big podcast. And then it dawned on me. This is why I'm not getting accepted into the network. It has nothing to do with the quality of my audio. It has nothing to do with the size of, you know, or the length of my, my downloads. It has everything to do with, I don't have 500,000 per episode. Like I have 500,000, but not per episode. And so it's,

If that is really the requirement to be part of these big, massive networks, and I kept investigating networks and really what a network is, is they make their money off of advertising. So they need the big boys in order to get all the advertising. Then who's here to support the actual small to medium sized podcast?

You know, like who's here to build that community, to have those mentoring, to have, you know, the right kind of ads and sponsorships. Because quite frankly, the more ads you put on your podcast, the less likely I am to actually listen to it. I mean, we're a culture of we pay more for Netflix and Hulu that is ad free. So.

You know, that was that like, sit back and go, okay. And when my mentor kicked me in the ass, I was like, I am not really going all in on the membership because what I really want is a network. But how do you create a network where I don't like, I cannot offer the podcasters in it ad space because we're not big enough to bring in revenue. But here's the thing, Amy, we are.

When you collectively add all the small podcasts together, I may not have a listenership of 500,000 per episode.

But if I add up everyone in my network, we do. And so now if we want to go and pitch sponsorships or good collaborations, it's, it's shifting the mindset again. That's what I've always kind of done. Shifting that mindset that you're a sponsor. You've got a conference, you've got X, Y, Z. We have your ideal audience and now you're omnipresent because we're going to talk about you on 10 podcasts, not one for the same amount of money.

And when that clicked in, I was like, okay, so shut down the membership and actually create the podcast, her network as the network I want to be a part of and wasn't allowed to be a part of.

So that is what we're doing. And I am really thrilled that the Motivated Mompreneur podcast is one of our very first network podcasts. Can't wait to help promote you, grow you, and help like, oh my God, just watch who you're going to become as a businesswoman. Yeah. And like I was telling you when you first brought this idea to me, I'm like, if anyone can make this happen...

It's Joanne. It is Joanne Bull. Seriously, like you are one of the most driven, motivated, just let's take action and go people that I have ever met. And that's why I'm like, you know what, when you presented this opportunity, I'm like, it's a hell yes. Like I'm in, like, what do you need? Let's make this happen. I want to know more. Like, why did you apply over and over and over? I mean, you said every single day you were applying to this network. What

What are some of those benefits to being in a network? I know you touched upon a few of them, but what was that like internal driver that had you going like, I need to be in this? You know, for me, it wasn't even about ad opportunity.

And the financial aspect that comes from that. For me, I looked at these networks and I was like, okay, do you know what I'm noticing? I'm noticing that this person on this network talks about someone else in the network. And guess what? I freaking go listen to that person's podcast. So they are literally making an introduction to me of a different podcast that I didn't even know about. So now I'm not having to search for it.

And it's a lazy factor. I'm not having to search for it. My bestie that I'm listening to is telling me to listen to something else. I'm clicking the button I'm in whether or not I subscribe to that person's podcast, like that's on me. And that's whether it really is a good fit for me or not, but at least the introduction has now been made. And then I kind of went back to my sorority days, right? It's the best sorority to be in. It's the cool kids lunch table. I started realizing that

Off camera, these people that were in the network, they were having dinners together. If they went to an event, they were getting together the day before the event. They were doing their own masterminds. They were pouring into each other's business. They were actually forming relationships that then made such powerful business connections and business opportunities. And they were doing it because of the network.

Now, let's be honest. A lot of them, big podcasters, big businesses, could they have met on their own? Sure. You know, like they play in the same ponds. They could have met on their own. Were they intentionally put together at opportunities created by the network so that they were naturally forming those better relationships? Heck yeah, they were. And it was rooms I can't get in.

You know, it's masterminds I'm not getting invited to. There's no press a button and get into this group. Like it's rooms I can't get into unless I'm part of this network because there's that common thread of we have a similarity. So for the podcast, Her Network, it's all women hosted business owners. You know, it's not...

it's not just true crime. It's not just this or it's all women hosted business owners. And so we have that common thread. So when we get together, we're going to have stuff in common stuff to talk about and those relationships will form. And the best part is the business collaborations. Hey, let's invest in each other's businesses. Let's host on each other's conferences because naturally that's going to happen. That's what I wanted out of those networks. And that I was like, well,

I guess I'm just not at their level to get into yet, but in my head I was. And so like, why not? Yeah. Why not? It opens opportunities. It truly does. And the first time you ever were telling me about this, I'm thinking to myself, this is a network for the rest of us. It gives us what those big networks have, but it allows us to really foster what we truly value.

that community that collaboration that connectivity by being able to link arms with other women and find really great podcasts to be able to introduce our listeners to to be able to give our listeners even more value that improves our visibility because think about it when someone recommends another person to you whether it be another business service or you know a product

instantly that boosts the credibility of that other person. So what you're doing, I mean, this is absolutely incredible. It's allowing a space for us to come together and rise together to really collectively pool our resources and even them within the network you are providing.

coaching. You're literally helping these women succeed. So it's not just all about join this. No, there's such a deeper benefit to it. And we're holding ourselves accountable. We're holding ourselves to that higher standard so that we all stretch and grow together because that's what makes us grow so much faster. When

When we can come together and support one another, pull those resources, we all rise and thrive. Well, and think about it this way. You know, I used to tell the agents on my real estate team this. All day long, you know, our clients would ask us for handymen or painters or window, you know, recommend like all this stuff. Well, I had a list of over 100 vendors.

And as a client of mine, I would be happy to give you three or four names of a painter and you would probably call them and you would still probably ask your neighbor, right? For who, who painted their house. When I told you, oh, you need to call Ken.

He painted my garage. He painted my living room. He poured my concrete. Not only is that name on my list, a good name, but, and I use him myself or, and I go to their conferences myself. And I, when you have that extra layer of, this is how I really know them. It is almost guaranteed that that person's going to use that person and not even continue asking for names. So when you have that relationship built within a network,

It's the same thing. If I trust you that much and you're saying, oh, you should go listen to the B word with Joanne Bolt. She's cool. That's one thing. When you can say she's my mentor, she's my coach, she is who I call and text on a daily basis. Now they're going to click on the B word. Right. And so when we teach our network members to have that kind of a relationship and to give that kind of a, a

a you know Network cross promotion the credibility is instantly added to the visibility yeah yeah it really is and this is going to be absolutely epic I mean the podcast her network will become a household name I I absolutely know it in my gut and right now the doors are open

Fellow podcasters have the opportunity to join in at the ground level. So tell us more details. Like how do we sign up? How do we get all the details? Like tell us all the nitty gritty.

So you can go to podcasther.com forward slash Amy, and you can click through and check everything out about the network. Tier one is $3,000 investment for a six month window. After tier one, you can get bumped to tier two, which is $2,400 every six months. And those are how you enter into the network. Yes, it's a pay to play. I make no bones about it.

What we're going to do is help create your visibility, your credibility, bring in sponsorship opportunities. But moreover, we're going to really work with you on your personal business. And how do we tie that podcast in so that your revenue increases because your listenership increases, because you become a better podcaster, because you get to be more of a household name amongst your ideal clients, the revenue will increase because

You know, and so that's how you get in. And if you try the first six months out at tier one and it's not the right network for you, then no big deal. It doesn't even auto renew. Like you have to push the button to go into tier two. And tier two is when we, we know you're in, we know you're, we're matching you with other podcasts in the network. We are giving you those affiliate opportunities. We're giving you those sponsorship. We're helping bring in the revenue with you and alongside you.

because we want you to grow. We want you to grow at each level. Let's be honest. Yes. And a lot of times, you know, we're so scared to invest in ourselves, invest in our businesses. But this is an investment.

When you put skin in the game, you show up different. You put in the work and by putting in the work, that's what gives you the results. And I am here to 100% vouch for Joanne because she has transformed my podcast. I continue to see growth and with the new things we're doing and starting to implement, I know that this is just the very beginning and I cannot wait to

to see where I'm at in the next 60, 90 days, six months, one year. I know one year from now when we do another recording to celebrate the one-year launch of this, like, I can't even imagine. I cannot even imagine.

I mean, Amy, three days into the network and what did you text me? Oh my gosh. I don't know what you did on the back end, but Good Pods has now rated your podcast one of the best to listen to. Right. I was like, I don't know what's happening right now. I literally sent Joanne a screenshot. I'm like, what just happened? Like, is this real life? But yes, it gets...

And that's the thing, my team and I are behind the scenes. We're implementing everything I did to get my podcast ranked higher, listened to higher, you know, at in a better position. We are whatever we can do without you even knowing we're doing that. And then we're coming to you and all those those monthly one on one strategies and saying now, Amy.

Here's something you could tweak. Here's something you can do. Let's talk about this because there's some things I can't do for you. I can guide you in. And there's some things my team and I can do without you having to really, I mean, you can be hands off. Yeah.

And that's really cool because you've put in the reps and you've gotten the results. So what you're doing for podcasters like me, you're literally taking that really long timeframe because let's face it, it is hard. It is a long game growing a podcast, but what you're doing is collapsing that timeframe. So now I'm getting...

Exactly. Now I'm getting massive visibility and I'm having someone identify those gaps, identify those blind spots that I don't even see so that I can grow even faster so that I can make an even greater impact because now I am reaching more listeners.

I am just so, so excited to link arms with you. The network is thrilled to have you as one of our founding podcasts. I can't wait to see where this thing's going to grow. In fact, I'll tell you in your listeners are secret, but I won't tell you where I may or may not have just booked something for May to bring in all of our network together. And there will be pina coladas.

That's all I'm going to leave you with. Oh my gosh. I cannot wait. I love it. Joanne, I am just eternally grateful for you. I'm so thankful for this opportunity and I'm just excited. I'm so excited to see where this goes. Oh my gosh. Thank you so much. One day that network I wanted to be a part of, they're going to call me and they're going to be like,

We need you in the network. And I'll be like, too late. I did my own. I built my own table because you told me no. So you're amazing. I started my own cool kids table. Yes, exactly. You're amazing, doing amazing things. And until next time, mamas, stop dreaming and start taking messy action. You've got this.

You just finished another episode of the B-Word Podcast. Cheers to you. If I were with you, I would literally pop a big old bottle of Prosecco and pour you a glass. Since I'm not, why don't you do the next best thing and share this episode with one of your besties? Because we all know you've got that one girlfriend that needs to hear it. Thanks, friends.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Before you go really fast, would you please take a second and go and leave me a review here on the B-Word podcast? It really does make a world of difference to how we show up for new people. And to give you a little thank you, because my mama always taught me that you send a thank you note or something in return for a gift.

We have got a free gift that we are changing every single month here on The B Word. So head on over once you've given your review, grab a screenshot of it, and then go to thebwordpodcast.com forward slash review. Upload it for me and I will send you a free gift immediately. Thanks in advance.
