Hello, everyone. One of the many aspects of hosting this podcast that I love is being able to sit down with exceptional faith leaders, authors, congressmen, musicians, all of them sharing their life stories and joining me to discuss the latest headlines. This week on Live in the Bream, I thought we would listen back to one of those conversations to highlight my remarkable guests and the stories they helped me to share. And

C.C. Winans, welcome to Live in the Marine. Thank you. Thanks for having me, Shannon. And you really do everything because I got to touch on this book that you've written as well, Believe For It, which is obviously one of my favorite songs off your newest project. But it's about passing on faith to the next generation. And you even give us prompts to have kind of these intergenerational conversations. Why was it important to you to put this book out there and to talk about sharing our faith through the ages?
Well, it was most important to me because that's why I am, I'm strong in my faith today because the generation before me understood the importance of it being the foundation of my life. And I really owe my, my life literally to those who took out time to pour the, the foundation of faith into me. And, you know, I started out,
singing professionally when I was probably about 17 years old and 58 now. You don't know when you become part of the older generation, but it happens as you keep living. And I realized that, you know what, it's my turn. It's my turn to make sure that I pour my
everything I possibly can into those who are coming after me. I have a daughter, now I'm a grandmother, and it gives me joy to
to pour into them, but also those who might not be related to me through blood. But because of where I am today, the influence that God has given me, it is just so important that I use as much time as I possibly can sharing that faith because it does make, it makes all the difference in the world of how you live your life and also where you're going to live after this life.
Yeah. And you say it's not always that these conversations are pouring into that next generation is going to be easy. You're going to have to work at it some. But obviously, it's an internal, eternal investment. Exactly. Exactly. It's so well worth it. Whatever happens.
um, challenges you have in doing it, um, it's worth it. You know, um, some will be easier to pour into than others. Some you have to be patient with. You have to repeat it over and over, but, but they, they took out time with me, you know? And so I have to take out time and understand that, um, the investment is worth it. A life is worth it. Um, knowing that what you have to share, um,
will stabilize
these young people are coming after you, when you really understand the difference that it makes in their outlook and their perspective and how they raise their families, how they go through life, understanding that they are loved, that God has made them the head and not the tail, and understanding the wisdom of God that leads you through every stage of life. And thank goodness we don't have to depend on our own because I would be in trouble. He's got
this limitless supply of wisdom and of grace and all the things that we need in our lives. So I'm thankful for that. But I got to ask you while we're on the topic of family and pouring into people, you're one of nine siblings. Like, was there any hot water left? Where do you fall in the nine? Like, that sounds like a house full.
It was a household. My mom and dad, my mother had one sister and my father was the only child. And I guess they said, hey, we're never going to be lonely again. They had seven boys straight.
And I'm number eight. I was the first girl and I have two younger sisters. So yeah, I had nine siblings and my parents both worked. They made sure we were at Sunday school. Every time the church doors were open, they made this and you don't realize how much of a sacrifice it is until you become grown. It's like,
Oh my God, y'all did what? And y'all did what? And never heard the complaining. They just understood the importance of instilling the faith of God in all of their children. And yeah, and we're here today because of that. And so, yeah, it wasn't easy. When I think about my mom and dad, my father always worked a few jobs. My mom worked and she came home and she cleaned and she cooked and she sold and
And, yeah, it's just amazing to see. Like you said, I know they didn't have to do it in their own strength. The Holy Spirit was there. He always sent wonderful people in our faith community to help.
out with all of us. And so God is amazing because he will step in where you need him and he'll supply the wisdom, the strength, the provision, everything that you need for your journey. You had a very musical family. I've had a chance to meet your brother, Bebe. He's just, there's so many and so much talent in your family. It's incredible. What
One of my favorite songs you guys have ever done is the first Noel. It's on my Christmas playlist every year. It's one of the first things I fire up. I just love that song. But for you looking over the years and I'm in love with every song on your new project too. Like, do you have some that are like your favorite child? Is it too hard to pick? Do you have a favorite song or two of what you've done? Oh man, it's very hard to pick. It's very hard to pick. I would have to, for my solo, I
I always end up at Alabaster Box. To me, it's just been one of the most powerful worship songs that I've ever been able to record or hear, actually. I remember somebody gave me...
that song to listen to, to ask if I was to be interested in recording it. And I just wept and wept and wept. I said, I don't think I'll be able to sing this song. But that's definitely one of my all-time favorites of what we've done. And then, I mean, to mention Bebe and Cece, you picked one. I think we were able to do that with David Foster.
One of the most amazing producers. Oh my God, yes. And so that's definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs that we've recorded. But yeah, like you called them babies. I've got too many babies over the years to just narrow it down. We'll have more Live in the Bream in a moment.

Okay, so you're on tour now, and will be in the coming months. You've got conferences and all kinds of things coming up. You talk about Alabaster Box and how emotional that is. Is it tough for you sometimes to get through these songs live? Because they are so rich with meaning and with just getting to the core of our hearts and of worship. Are you sort of, though, when I'm on the stage, like, I know everyone else is crying, but I got to get through this song. Yeah.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. That happens to me a lot. That happens to me a lot because the gospel is just the gospel. And because I'm just because I'm singing the songs and I'm on stage, it does not exempt us from life and all of life's experiences and knowing that it is the goodness and the kindness of God that
that leads us to repentance. It's the goodness of God and his faithfulness that wakes us up every day, you know, new mercies every morning. I remember one time I was singing a song, another one of my favorite songs that I've sang, I recorded over the years and it was, he's concerned about you is the name of the song. And it's really a perfect song to remind you that God remembers, but also is a perfect song for
Anybody who maybe has lost a loved one, you know, and I remember I was on tour really when I lost my second eldest brother. And that was one of the songs on the
on the tour list, on the singing list. And so I got out there and I was just like, oh my God, how am I going to sing this? Because I was literally ministering to myself that he knows, he cares, he sees, he's always right there and he'll carry you through because he's concerned about you. So yeah, that happens to me because we minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. And even if you're the person who's given it,
it continues to minister to you as well. Yeah. And I do think music is so special in that way in that it connects us
hits us in the heart. I think, you know, as you were saying so often when I do get weepy during worship, it is a sense of gratefulness. Like I am a sinner saved by grace and thank God for that. Like I'm so grateful for his mercy and for his covering through, as you say, tragic times of losing a loved one or someone that just absolutely breaks your heart. By the way, I have to tell you a mutual friend of ours named Chaz,
When I was raving months ago about how much I loved your new project, he said, you know what? This was his take. He said, Cece is a preacher who just also happens to have an amazing singing voice. Because he's like, listen, she can get up and give a sermon, but she also has this amazing gift for music. And I just thought, what a great description of you. No, that's awesome. Chaz was awesome. I love him.
he's a good guy. He's a cut up. I mean, I've got some stories. I'm sure you do on Chaz too. Non-stop cut up. But I will say like to, to see you, um, isn't just to see you sing. It is like you share scripture and you can tell that there are things embedded deep in your heart. Um, that I tell people, I tell people all the time, um,
I'm not a singer who happens to believe. I'm a believer who happens to sing, you know? And if I'm singing, I remember when God called my husband and I to start a church, Nashville Life Church. And I didn't sing.
I don't know, for almost eight years. I mean, I sang here and there, but nothing. I didn't record. I didn't go out on tour because that season of my life was to build the church. And so a lot of people came to the church and know who I was. They know I recorded, they know anything. And because it was just about winning souls and making disciples. And I was happy. I had a great time. And when I felt like,
God was saying it was time to go back into the studio. I did. And God blessed it. It was like I had never left the industry, you know, and it was that. So I always tell people the first, the most important thing is my relationship with Jesus. And, and I will preach from the mountaintop and even in the valley because it's the gospel of Jesus Christ, right?
that, that, um, that heals, that delivers, that sets free and, and to be able to sing his praises is just icing on the top, you know? It's so true. And as you talk about planting and growing a church, and we talked about the generational issue and sharing faith across that, um,
What do you make of these, you know, recent surveys and numbers that say young people feel disconnected to church or to organized religion that they, you know, for you and I both, it sounds like, listen, we grew up in church. Every time the doors were open, visitation, Wednesday night prayer service, dinner on the ground, we were there. And it feels like young people now are, they've got a different perception, a different experience about an organized church.
Well, I think it's, I agree with you. When we, when we planted our church, I didn't know how different it was until we planted and we had the millennials, you know, and it's funny because, um,
You know, nowadays it's like, how long are you in church? Okay, if it's more than an hour service, then it's too long. And I'm like, what are you guys rushing back to? Are you rushing back to your struggles? Are you rushing back to your depression? What are you rushing out of the house of God for?
And so I think we've done a disservice. I think our generation has done a disservice to those who are coming after us. We have to, we have a job to do to get them back, reconnected to the house of God, to the presence of God, understanding that God is the God of every day, not just on Sunday, but the more, the more you allow him to infiltrate your business and your thought life and your
every area of your life, the more you allow him to be the Lord of your life, the master of your life, the happier you're going to be. And so that's, that's what I've been doing these last few years. 10 to 12 years now, should I say, shouldn't say few is really trying to get the young people to understand that the
You need Jesus in every area of your life. And once once they taste it, the Bible says, taste and see that the Lord is good. Once they understand that and they just begin to allow him to be Lord, then they I've seen that love of his presence, the love of the house of God be restored into the hearts of those who are coming after me.
Yeah. And you talk about what are we rushing back to? Probably our phones, probably everything on there that makes us stressed out. All the social media, endless overflow of information. And you're in your book, Believe For It, Passing on Faith to the Next Generation. You talk about this, this idea of fostering emotional health in ourselves, but also in order to help others. I mean, how can we be better about something like that in this crazy pressure filled world?
Well, I know what works for me every time. And that's, that's being the, the Bible says in his presence, there's fullness of joy. And when we understand that God's word is true, when we begin to open up the scriptures and see the promises that God has given us, then, then we'll begin to reap the benefits of what Jesus did on the cross. Being in his presence is,
Being in the house of God, serving people keeps you in a posture. The Bible says that if we are led by the spirit, we won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. If we live in the spirit, we won't fulfill the lust of the flesh. And it's so true.
If we would just begin to focus another scripture I love, if you keep your mind stayed on me, I'll keep you in perfect peace. The more we flood our thought life and our minds and the more we're busy being God's hands and his feet, I believe you experience more peace. You experience more joy because the things of God actually brings heaven to earth.
You know, so if people are stressed out, if they're struggling, the Bible said the garment of praise will lift the spirit of heaviness. So if you're struggling with heaviness or depression, begin to praise God, open up your mouth, lift up your hands, proclaim his name, begin to meditate on the word of God. And peace is going to come in because that's a promise.
Yeah, it's such a good word. And, you know, scripture is so comforting to the soul. I mean, it's a salve, it's a balm to the soul and praise, like you said, is. So I would say, obviously, that's where you go first. But I would say second to that, Believe for It by Cece Winans is full of
of amazing, worshipful, challenging, comforting songs. Her book by the same name is out there too, and she's on tour as well. So we hopefully will catch up with you out there on the road. Cece Wine, it's such an honor to have you with us on Live in the Bream. God bless you. Thank you for having me. God bless you too.
