Named one of the best personal finance podcasts, The Stacking Benjamin Show with Joe and his friends makes financial literacy fun. We see money inefficiency OG around us all the time. We've got a few skeletons sitting out in the open and maybe we need to broom them into the closet, if you know what I mean. Nope, take that out. What is...

Whatever you were going for didn't land right. Who's got a shovel and some lime? Maybe you need to do that with your financial picture. I don't know. Find out more by searching the Stacking Benjamins podcast wherever you listen. This Jocks 94.5 podcast is brought to you by Millennium Satellite and Video. Log on to MSPNOW.com. TV excellence everywhere. That's Millennium. McElroy and Kubelik in the morning starts now.

Welcome back in. McIlroy and Kubelik in the morning. Hour number two underway, 8 a.m. right here on Jocks 94.5. Get to some of the feedback coming in on Ole Miss if they'll make the college football playoff this season. Charlie Potter coming up in 15 minutes.

He'll talk Alabama practice. We'll focus in on some of those pass rushers, that secondary, maybe how the offensive line playing out, different things that we saw from Jalen Milrow, with a little bit of a bigger viewing window than the media has had in previous years. You can also text into the show, 205-834-9450. A couple people chiming in on Ole Miss. Damian, via the text line? Yeah, Doug texted in. He says, I'm leaning towards Ole Miss making the SEC championship over Alabama. Yeah.

It's not because of coaching or first-round talent, because of one, strength of schedule. Alabama top ten despite Lincoln Riley's stupid schedule over championships. Number two, Ole Miss has probably more NFL draft picks than Alabama. And number three, Kippen finally has to prove that he can truly head coach a team and was upset that he couldn't even be considered for the Bama job. I believe he knows that he can't sustain at Ole Miss, but maybe he can get the Florida job. But, yeah, he's got Doug. Doug has Ole Miss making the SEC championship over Alabama.

I was about to say, he's got Billy with one foot in the coffin. What are we doing? Pretty much. John texted and he says, I think they win a college football playoff game. Not just make it, they win one. Yeah, because I think if they get in, they're not going to be one of the seeds that gets a bye. So they'll probably be playing the lower seed early. And I think they could definitely grab a playoff win.

They're going to be talented enough. Chris, he texts in. He says, I think Ole Miss will make it, but I'm not confident because I feel like Lane and Ole Miss may choke a game away. It's not the realm of possibility. I'm just trying to think, like, what's been there? I understand that he's – When's their chokes? Yeah, I understand he hasn't performed well against Alabama in a couple years and Georgia last year, but, like, where –

Like that Arkansas game, you give up 700 and something yards of offense. Okay, that was bad. Well, we know why that happened. Of course. And exactly why that took place. But, I mean, there hasn't been a ton of just let down performances of, you know, I mean, the bowl game. Greg, you had the sugar bowl. Like, Matt Corral was hurt. I mean, that's not necessarily just you going down there and, you know, throwing up on yourself. I don't know. I don't know.

It feels like there's this mindset of Lane has – I mean, like, people apply this to Hugh Freeze. Like, he has that one letdown game almost every year, which the last two years at least has been applicable. In a couple of other years, I know at Ole Miss there was one or two. But I just don't – I don't know if I look at Lane that way. I mean, the bigger games, yeah, but –

I haven't seen him. He's never had the horses. Yeah. That's my problem. Like, oh, he hasn't beat Bama, and he hasn't beaten Georgia, hasn't played well against those two teams. Tell me how many teams have beat Bama and Georgia, if you don't mind. And look, I'm not sitting here pounding the drum for Lane. I think Lane's a good coach. But to use the, oh, well, he got beat badly by Georgia. Get in line.

A lot of people do. That happens. It doesn't mean you stink. It just means you don't have the same level players as those guys do. When has Lane ever brought a gun to a gunfight? He hasn't. This year, hey, he's got the roster.

So it's kind of a show-me year in a way that's like, I don't know, he's just never had anything close, I don't think, to what he has right now as far as personnel. So I think it's a hugely important year for his perception because one thing to lose when you don't have the dudes, it's another thing to lose when you do. And I think now is the time when he's really got to get one of those two games against Bama or Georgia if given the opportunity. Yeah.

They lost to Alabama and Auburn in the regular season in 21, then lost to Baylor in the bowl game, obviously. Lost to LSU. But wasn't Auburn good in 21? Like, I can't really, like, they weren't bad, I feel like. No. I mean, like, they weren't great. That was Harsin's first year. Lost to, lost at LSU, lost at Arkansas, lost to Alabama, and then Mississippi State in 22. I mean, that was,

That was losing four of your last five, which was a little bit of a collapse and then loss to Texas Tech in the bowl game. They got punched in the face in that game. That was an ugly one. I will admit that. And then, like we said, last year you lose at Alabama. You lose at Georgia. That's not dropping any games, I think, that people thought you should win or were supposed to win. You just went out there and had a lazy performance. So it's just maybe just a little bit of a misnomer that I think some people are kind of going with there.

Twitter as well, where you can be a part of the show, at Mac and Cube. The unhipster tweets in and says, it's not just Kiffin. Ole Miss, Missouri, and Auburn have never been consistent 10-plus game winners, and until they are, not everyone will have faith in them. Jordan tweets in, another aspect of that Florida game is that if Ole Miss only has one or two losses and Florida is struggling, the lane to UF rat poison machine will be humming. Boy, don't

Don't be on the call for the game and bring that up. Oh, boy. Oh, boy. You read the tweet. Somebody's going to cut your voice there and say, look, Cole Q looks at it again. There it is. Jolly tweets in. Because Cole was there calling a game.

Doing his job. But according to some, he was there as an operative to go and recruit Lane to his alma mater. That makes a lot of sense. They send Cole to do their bidding. That's how it works. That's what it was. To Fayetteville during a game. Makes sense. Jolly tweets in, Ole Miss SEC championship game, four question marks, emoji, eyes looking left.

Going to have to downvote that. Easier seeing them as 11-12 with a 10-2 record. That 10-2 pool is going to be absolutely massive at the end of the season. It feels like it's got a chance to be right now. There were 17 10-2s a couple years ago. There were 18 10-2s in 21. It's usually pretty deep. It's going to be crazy. It's going to be wild to think about just how many teams may be there and...

Also, maybe trying to find a way to get in. I want to go to our top three here in just a moment, but I wanted to bring up one tweet quickly from yesterday. John McDonald, at John MCD 77541 874, always a trustworthy handle when your phone number's in there.

He tweets, at Cole Kubrick, at Greg McElroy, at Mac and Cube. Left you out of this, John. Maybe that's because you knew the one kid was from France. Thank you. He tweets, poor effort on the top 10 NBA picks. I got seven easily. Show a little pride in your job, guys. Come on. If you followed Bama and Auburn recruiting just a little, you easily get five of those. There wasn't an

An Auburn or Alabama player mentioned. I think he's saying guys that they were in on, possibly. But guess what? I don't follow Auburn and Alabama basketball recruiting just a little. Sorry. I don't care. If you don't want to listen to our show because of that, then don't. Go somewhere else. I don't.

Sorry I'm not up on the N1 GBBA basketball league down in Florida, whoever it is. The GBBA. Whatever. OTM. I think it's called OTM. The big kid that Georgia signed from, like Pride One University in Atlanta or whatever it is. Whatever. Superpowers of the Mideast. I think it's called Prime Energy Drink School of the Hoop. Yes, that too, along with all the other –

Nike and Adidas teams, Summer League. I can't believe you, Cole. You just earned the respect of the Alabama Nation. Cole just earned the respect of Alabama Nation. Now you're just dumping on it.

I don't think that's necessarily dumping. It's more dumping on recruiting and following recruiting, to which I totally co-sign the bills presented by Cole there. Totally. I have a lot of things to study and remember, and I'll tell you what I won't be studying. High school basketball tape. That ain't happening. What about summer league? Club team. Or Masekin League. That's what they all do. Yeah.

I know I have a Dink Pate jersey on order from Fanatics to whatever team he's going. That's all I got. He's from Texas, so that makes sense. Dink Pate? Yeah. West Dallas. I thought you said he's from Mexico City. He played. I think he immigrated and then came back. He wanted to be a professional. Yeah. Ah. I'll give John credit, though. He has pride in our job because he can do it because he knows five of the seven out of the ten.

alleged top 10 picks in next year's NBA draft. So when we get ready for the draft, we know who to call. Yeah, but can he tell me who the left guard is at UT San Antonio? Because Cole can. Probably a name. All right. Is that on the Joe Moore Award? Johnny Johnson. All right, it's Johnny Johnson. It's got to be. You're like Cole Commander. I don't know. Has the Joe Moore Award Foundation, have you all put out your preseason watch list? Watch list?

All I'm going to say about that is this. I'll get back on social media just for that. I beg Aaron Taylor every year to list all the teams and to put it out publicly as our watch list, and he doesn't want to do it. Maybe we need to get to more squadron games so we can get in on the recruiting. Sorry that we let you down on that one. Apologize for that.

But really and truly not sorry. I was going to present that we do a squadron segment every day on the show. Why would we not? I think we should do a Mexican City Basketball League team segment on the show. And France. I will say this. Come on, tell me. Basically, football, we had Jeremy Johnson. We did have some updates. Ah, 360. Look at that three-pointer. Let's go. Let's get that in there every time. Who doesn't want to talk about that? The next great Frenchman in the NBA.

That's what our people show up to hear. Dink Pate, Josh Pate. I ain't never seen them two at the same time. Let's get all the Pates together. We are Pate State. You didn't know we were international and a basketball school now.

I love it, man. You've got to be kidding me. I don't know. I did not see Cole getting mad today about this. Greg got one. John got one. I don't think Damien got one. I would have gotten one. And I don't care at all. There's not one part of my feelings that are hurt about that. Hell, I had only heard two of the names before. Yeah. I am a former recruiter.

It happens, man. By the way, Auburn's going to play at Houston November the 9th, 2024 at the Toyota Center, and then Houston's going to come back to Legacy Arena in 2025 to play Bruce Pearl's group. John McDonald can tell us all the players that are going to be on the teams there. We can't.

Because we apparently don't follow it closely enough. But either way. Because I don't remember him bringing up such an uproar when Bronny was talking about Bronny and USC. Can you alter today's top three as to the top three Mexican City players of all time? Sure.

Or maybe the top three French players in next year's draft? Let's go. What do we got on tap for the top three today? Well, I mean, believe it or not, we are going international. We're going to talk about the Olympics, believe it or not. Yeah, we are. You better believe it. You see South Sudan and that power forward that's getting recruited by Tulane? No, I didn't. I saw him take an L by the U.S. men's national team, though. They did that. Wow. Because he's not prideful. That's why. I did see that. No, but our top three today are who are your top three Olympians? Your favorite. All time? Your favorite.

Oh, my gosh. One, Charles Barkley. Two, Michael Johnson. Okay. And three, do I need to pull anybody in from the Winter Olympics? I don't think so. No. Yeah, you do. John White. I'm going to go Suni Lee. John White. There we go. The flying tomato. Suni? Yeah. God, what an ambition. Yeah. Strike up the band. I've been following Auburn Gymnastics recruiting, so I know who she is.

I'm so over it. I'm so over it. Christian Leder? Top three for me. I love that one. Great addition. I love him just standing there in the dream team with a picture. Like, why am I here? Team picture. Most awkward thing ever. All right. Number one, Michael Phelps. Big Phelps guy. Any...

Dude, the Beijing Olympics, we were in training camp. I remember this. The entire team would stop everything we were doing in the training room or whatever and watch him swim those eight races en route to eight gold medals. It was insane. It was amazing. And it was so much fun. So Michael Phelps is one. Apollo Anton Ono is two. Wow.

Now, this is not just pulling one out of thin air. That's a skater, right? You love speed skating. No, the short track speed skating is one of my favorite Olympic events. It is so intense, and that was the first time I was ever introduced to it. It was in the Salt Lake Games back in 2002, and Paulo Anton Ono was just shredding it up, and it was awesome. I really, really enjoyed that event, and it was basically almost entirely due to Paulo Ono's contributions to

And then number three, a little bit true. I'm not going with like your traditional basketball player. I'll probably go, hmm, it'd probably be Michael Johnson. I mean, the gold shoes in Atlanta was like my first, my earliest memory of the Olympics. So I think that's a pretty good one. I could go straight Bam and just go Deontay Wilder. I could go what Cole did, but I'll choose not to in this particular case. Okay.

It's all good. John? Number three is obvious. I didn't know that Deontay Walter boxed at Alabama. Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa. He's a true Bama alum. He didn't go there but claims them, so yeah, it counts. So you all claiming Courtney Taylor, too?

Auburn wide receiver Courtney Taylor. He's from Tuscaloosa? I don't know who that is. I didn't know that's how it worked. I don't follow Auburn recruiting. He's from the last of the past. Football recruiting, not basketball. You would know. Number three is old goal shoes Michael Johnson. Number two is Simone Biles. And number one is Usain Bolt. That's a good one.

Usain Bolt must see TV. Yeah. That's fine. You just don't like America. That's fine. It's okay. He likes B. At least I'm not claiming other countries or other schools randomly or other folks just, oh, you have an A and a B in your name. You're bam. Eight medals for Apollo Anton Ono.

He was a beast, bro. He was really fun to watch. Really fun to watch. He was indeed. Number three for me, I'm going Kurt Angle. He won gold with a broken freaking neck. Against who? I couldn't tell you. Undertaker? Whoa. What? What? What?

What was the move? Was it a pin? Was it a win on points? Tell us about the match. It was a chokeout. Did you ever actually watch him in the Olympics? No, not at all. I just know that he claimed to be a champion. Damien's just absolutely pandering. He's 100% pandering to the WWE crowd. What an embarrassment. He won the gold with a broken freaking knee.

Which he obviously displayed every single time. That's all you know. That's literally all you know. You cannot tell me one other aspect of his life. Have you ever hoisted the World Heavyweight Championship after you won gold with a broken freaking neck? Didn't think so. Do you know that not all broken necks are created equal? I don't even know the specifics of his broken neck. All I know is that the way you're describing it is as if he was up there with...

won the gold with a broken freaking neck. That's all I needed to know. Tell me the details. He had a broken freaking neck. That's the only detail that you know. That's all you got. That's all you need. That's all you need to know. He was the Greg Jennings of USA Wrestling. Oh, don't you do that. Don't you do that. Nobody was Greg Jennings. Oh. He avoided Darren Sharp. The hardest hit to save the league.

I do this for y'all. He does. I do this for Madden. He put the whole nation on his back and his neck, literally. Number two for me, LeBron James. And it's going to be the last time we see him. That's it. Might as well get him to go. He doesn't even have a record. He doesn't even do it with a straight face. He's the GOAT, man. He's the GOAT. Okay. Continuing. And number one.

Usain Bolt, his fastest man to ever do it. And, again, must-see TV. I know he represented Jamaica, but my gosh. Y'all are so young. I expect it from you. I didn't expect it from Sabre, I've got to be honest. Usain Bolt was incredible. No one's denied that. Watching him run the 100 is insane. Watching him run the 200 is even more insane. But Michael Johnson was the OG Usain Bolt. I respect it.

Unlike the 200 and 400. Yes, he was. Still, Usain Bolt. Imagine being so fast in the 200. You can actually look to your left and your right and still be lengths away from people. Oh, so Katie Ledecky. Oh, okay. Like, it's crazy. Like, that's a different type of speed, man.

Just don't see it every day. LeBron James is the second best player of all time. See how quick the media is. I mean, that's fine. I just remember you saying he's a GOAT and then you got this. They clip out just what they want you to hear. We stand on business, Damien. That's what Eli Drinkwood sold me. Yeah, we stand on business. But no. It was either that or Eli Manning. Michael Johnson, four golds. Usain Bolt, eight golds. It's a double up.

It is a double up, but Michael Johnson's teammates let him down. I mean, Michael Johnson can't do everything. I mean, he didn't win enough relays. Like, Usain Bolt had the relay. He had the 4x2, 4x1 to be able to double him up. Like, I mean, Leon can't do everything. If you're that fast, should it matter? No. You should be able to pick it up no matter what. No. No, I disagree.

I can't believe there's no Katie Ledecky. I can't believe there's no... Ryan Lochte, because he had the reality show. He was smart, too. You want to talk about a smart guy. I thought you didn't want us to go recent. You just chided us for going. I honestly forgot the guy's name, Lochte. Is he still going? I don't think so, no, but he's got a ton of medals. I don't think so.

He does have a bunch of medals. He was a sprinter, wasn't he? Three relay golds for Usain Bolt. Three? Yep. Four by one, four by one, four by two? Four by one, four by one, four by... Wait. Okay, so there was only two then in the relays. DQ'd from the 2008 Beijing four by 100. So only two. Gotcha. Gotcha.

I feel like Usain Bolt, though, he probably could have gotten a gold in pretty much every event. Like, no disrespect to the 400 runners.

Like, Usain Bolt could have run the four and probably gotten a gold there. Could have run the four by four, probably gotten a gold there. Could have run the four by two every year, gotten a gold there. Like, I feel like he could have probably won just about every event. He was just that big, and to be that long, his stride had to have been insane. I mean, he could just chew so much ground. I mean, there's no doubt if he ran the four, he would have an absolutely ridiculous time. Yep, it's...

It's a fun question. I think Lochte has like eight or nine medals. Are you serious? I saw his name somewhere when I was doing some research for the show the other day. He has 12 medals. 12 gold medals? 12 medals. Six gold, three silver, three bronze. That's insane. It's got to be a lot of the relays.

But still, like there's no Olympian getting credit for not named Michael Johnson. Every Olympian was a system. If your name's not if your name's not Michael, if your name's not Michael, you're out to me. Michael Jordan, Michael, Michael Phelps. You wouldn't have done that. Michael Phelps, Michael Jordan.

Michael Johnson. I ain't got time for anybody else. Those are three. There you go. All the mics. Charlie will join us next to talk Alabama right here on Jocks 94.5. Catch up with all things McElroy and Kubrick in the morning by subscribing to the podcast. Mythically, he's grown. He's almost like a little bit bigger than a player, right? Like the myth of Bo Jackson. Like, rate, and download the show from the Jock app or wherever you get your podcasts. All right. Welcome back in. McElroy and Kubrick in the morning.

Going to talk to Charlie Potter about Alabama football practice here in just a moment. First, tell you about our friends at Wayne's. I was outside hitting some baseball with the kids yesterday. Didn't have to worry about the mosquitoes, though, because we've got that Mosquito Plus program at our house today.

Listen, mosquitoes are going to try to take over your yard, your porch, your patio, all your outdoor spaces. Wayne's Mosquito Plus program eliminates the biting pests. It includes fleas and ticks as well. You know, those are carriers of disease for pests and people. Mosquito Plus safely and effectively eliminates them from your property. Greg, just one reason our listeners need to call Wayne's.

Yeah, call them at 866-WAINS-1. Wains will take great care of you. 866-WAINS-1. You get that free fire ant treatment right now if you sign up with Wains. I have all four. They've been amazing. Go at 866-WAINS-1 or visit callwains.com and let Wains continue to create your happy place. All right, let's bring in Charlie Potter. He covers Alabama. And let's just start kind of with...

availability, personnel, anything that took you off guard as far as where someone was lining up, somebody who was or wasn't at practice the last two days, Charlie? Yeah, there hasn't really been that many absences. Obviously, Jalen Hill's been out. He suffered a significant knee injury in the spring, but it's been pretty much status quo. We haven't seen LT Overton, the Texas A&M transfer, but it sounds like that's just something minor with him, and he'll be back pretty soon.

But I think the biggest thing, or at least where my eyes went on day one, was to the offensive line just because that's been a question mark for Alabama all offseason. You add Caden Proctor back to the mix, you get Parker Brailsford back after missing some of the spring, and just to kind of see where things were. And so far through the first two days, we've seen Elijah Pritchett at that left tackle spot with the ones. Wilkin Forby has been at right tackle.

uh, with the first team. Uh, so Caden Proctor has been with the twos right now. That's not completely a surprise because I mean, my man hasn't practiced since December leading into the Rose Bowl, but to see Elijah Bridget at that left tackle spot with the first group right now says that they have a lot of confidence in him. And it kind of sounds like they're using a bit of a rotation right now. And I think honestly, that's smart because yeah, you get Caden Proctor back, but there's not a lot of experience that, um,

right tackle. So to kind of have a swing man that's been able to play both, I think that's beneficial for Alabama. I fully expect Caden Proctor to be the starter when game one rolls around. But to continue to get some of these guys valuable reps while bringing Proctor along in this new offense, I think that's been pretty interesting to see these first two days.

Yeah, it makes sense for sure. Jalen Milrow, we haven't really talked much about him all offseason, I don't feel like. It's kind of funny. I mean, we kind of know what we got there, right? We kind of know who he is. But I'm curious, I mean, is there signs of progress so far? I know it's early and I know it's limited viewing period, but does he look better than he did a year ago or more comfortable?

Yeah, I mean, it is different than this time last year because you're still kind of wondering what's going to happen at quarterback. But, I mean, you know, Greg, whenever there's not a quarterback competition, it's not as much of a newsy thing. But I think with Jalen, he does look good.

He looks confident out there. I think he has improved a bit. Like you said, it's tough to glean much from those 15-20 minutes we get out there at practice. But throwing with the receivers, throwing with the tight ends, you can tell he's worked on things. He's maybe tight

things up a little bit. But unless we're out there at a scrimmage or maybe the full fan day, you don't get a full taste of that. And to be honest, whenever you are out there for 20 minutes per day, knowing that the quarterback position is set, you don't really pay that much attention to it. You're looking around at the O-line, the DBs, and things like that. But just from the little bits that I did watch, the

especially working with those wide outs on day one. Um, yeah, he looks crisp. I think he's a guy that put in a lot of work this off season. And, um, you're right though. We, we don't probably talk enough about Jalen Milrow because I think it's going to be fascinating to see what he looks like in this Kalen DeBoer offense. And, um,

He's someone that I'm sure I think we'll probably talk to him tomorrow actually after practice. So be interested to see what he said just from a summer standpoint. Charlie Potter joining us on the Buyers Right Hotline. Follow him on Twitter at Charlie underscore Potter. Writes for Bama online. Find his work there. So

Around him, you just mentioned looking crisp. There's a lot of buzz about Ryan Williams. I think people wondered if he's going to be able to fit into the rotation. We saw a lot of Jeremy Bernard in the spring game, feel pretty good about him. But collectively, what you've seen, what you've heard about this receiver core, what are your expectations? What have you been able to learn early on? Yeah, I mean, I think a lot of eyes went to number two on that first day, and rightfully so. I mean, he's a little...

skinny, but I think people kind of gravitate towards that Devontae Smith comparison. Right or wrong, he looks the part. I think Ryan Williams is someone that's going to come in and contribute. I think they view him as a dynamic player.

playmaker. He made a lot of plays in the summer. If he can continue just to gain confidence and be consistent, I think he's someone that I'll be shocked if he's not a contributor in the first game of the season. I think the wide receiver position as a whole is maybe overlooked a little bit just because of what they lost with

Jermaine Burton and Isaiah Bond moving on. Adding Jeremy Bernard to that group is huge. I think Kendrick Law and Kobe Prentice coming back, those guys are going to be big parts of this offense. And then, you know, you've got some guys that have been in the program for a little bit like

and Emmanuel Henderson. I think he's going to take a big step. Cole Adams is someone that I heard a little bit of positive buzz about over the summer. And then a guy like Caleb Odom making that transition from tight end to give you kind of a bigger frame. This wide receiver core could be six, seven, maybe eight players deep. And I think since they have talent, it's a little green just in terms of what those guys have done in games. But I think they're pretty excited about this group right now.

I know that the secondary is going to be a point of contention pretty much all season. They're just thin, and in some cases they're real young. I know that after the spring game, if they had to tee it up, they would have started two true freshmen. But I feel like the staff, that's not what they want to do. It just might be what they have to do. So how are the veterans performing in the back end defensively, specifically at corner and nickel?

Yeah, I mean, well, corner veteran is kind of a loose term, right? Because you have Devon Jackson, who's played a couple seasons at USC. He's the most experienced guy in that group, at least from an Alabama standpoint. Deshaun Jones coming in, he does have experience in weight force too, but he's learning this system having come in in the summer.

So I think the cornerback group, that's the most fascinating position to me just because I think safety, they're in pretty good hands with Malachi Moore and Keon Saab. Those two can be the best safety duo in the country this fall, in my opinion. But I think at corner, they're still trying to develop those guys. I think

Kane Womack and Mo Ling was hearing from them yesterday talking about how this is kind of their third go at things because they had the spring, they had the player-run practices in the summer. Now this information is not new to them, talking specifically about the new guys. But

I think it's very telling when you hear from Kane Womack. He's just asked Point Blake what cornerbacks are standing out to him, and he doesn't hesitate when he mentions Damani Jackson and Zabian Brown, the latter being a true freshman. Like you mentioned, that's the group we saw to end the spring. I think if they were to play a game on Saturday, that's who we see out there first. But I think for me, maybe the most interesting thing we heard yesterday when talking to the defensive guys was Montee

Mo Ling was talking about it being a rotation and then playing multiple guys during the season, kind of treating it like an offensive line of sorts. And so I think guys like Jalen Mbakwe and Zay Mincy and Deshaun Jones coming over from Wake Forest, they're all going to have a say in this thing and might end up getting playing time and not because of a detriment of the guys in front of them, because they need to get depth of that position and they want to see what they've got and to rotate those guys in this fall.

Charlie Potter, Bama Online, joining us on the Bioshock Hotline. You mentioned Kane Womack talking about some of the secondary. He was asked about the past rushers, plural, yesterday and pretty much gave the entire depth chart. Have you seen any separation of an individual or two that maybe you have a little more confidence in is going to be able to help Alabama in that situation?

I think defensive line, that's probably the deepest position on the roster. And you've got guys like Tim Keenan and Tim Smith in the middle. I'll be interested to see what they can do from a pass rush standpoint. I think that bayonet position, which is Marion Latham, LT Overton, is going to be interesting just to see it.

kind of a different look in that defense, but those are a couple guys that have played a lot of football. But for me, I think that Wolf position is the most intriguing just because you lose Dallas Turner, you lose Chris Braswell, you've got a couple of guys in Quandarius Robinson and Keanu Coote who have

in the program, waited their turn. It sounds like they've kind of been leaders in that room throughout the summer and starting fall camp. You can kind of see that just those quick media viewing periods. But I think that with Caden Womack and even Christian Robinson, the outside linebackers coach, they've talked a lot about Quay Roussall. And I think, yeah, I'm intrigued to see how many

of those wolves we actually see on the field, like what type of rotations there, but, you know, I wouldn't be surprised to see him going into his second year and making a contribution, Roussel. So, um, I think there to hear that, uh, to hear that trio we brought up kind of consistently, uh,

I think it's good news for Alabama fans whenever you have to replace the players you do. But I think along the front, there's confidence there. They're just kind of harping on forcing turnovers, creating pressure leads to bad. And I think if those guys can kind of take that next step, and that's along every position, I think this front can be really positive and can be really disruptive this fall.

Yeah, I would definitely circle Kwe Rousaw. Unsolicited, his name comes up every time I talk to someone down there.

But then again, when you have a single-digit jersey, that's usually a pretty good giveaway as to what the team feels about you as a possible contributor. Lastly, for me, the running back's kind of a position that's been taken for granted a little like Milrow. Like, Justice is going to be good. Jam's going to be good. We know that. That's to be expected. The other guy, though, that I continue to hear great things about is Richard Young. Just because of how physical he is, he had a nice spring. I think he's been a bit of a surprise recently.

So, how many touches do you think he's going to get throughout the season? And with Jam and Justice both being good, solid perimeter guys, is he going to be kind of the hammer that can get downhill?

I think that's going to be one of the most fascinating things to see how it plays out because I think they have a very good one-two punch in Justice Haynes and Jan Millick. I'll be fascinated to see how DeBoer attacks this and the approach he takes with the run game. I think with Richard Young, he has taken that next step. I think he's

much more confident than he was a year ago. It's amazing what wonders will do for a player having one year in a program. I think Richard Young is a great example of that. But it's going to be tough to take Justin to Jamoff Field. It really is. And I think with all the players

All the playmakers they have at wide receiver, they have three or more tight ends that I think can contribute. Just sharing the wealth is going to be interesting to see how DeBoer and company kind of breaks that down. But yeah, I think Richard Young has had a great offseason. I think that he brings something a little different than the other two who are kind of similar. But

to see what he can do just from taking carries away from them will be intriguing because I think those top two guys, they're going to be, I think it's going to be tough to find better quarterbacks in the SEC than what Justice and Jam bring to Alabama. Charlie, great stuff, man. Appreciate the time. Always good catching up, and we'll do it again soon.

So some interesting, I guess, comments, Greg, about depth and how strong Charlie thinks it is, running back, defensive line, even the wide receiver core. He's saying that he thinks he could see it going pretty deep, maybe deeper than a lot of people believe.

Yeah, and I think the receivers are probably one of the most underappreciated positions because they're not really well-known in name, but...

but it doesn't mean they're not good players. Like, Jeremy Bernard's going to be a difference maker, a big-time difference maker, I think. And I've looked at what Kendrick Law is physically, and I'm super optimistic. Now, I would like to see a little more consistency from the group the last couple years, but the attention to detail wasn't what it once was the last couple years. But I don't know if that's necessarily because of the players. I really just...

I think the offense, too, will open up some things for these guys, and they're going to get Jeremy a lot of touches. Kendrick Law is a beast with the ball in his hands. Kobe Prentice is rock solid, and so is Emmanuel Henderson. The only thing that concerns me about the receiver group is just size.

That's it. I mean, in the event in which you need to win a jump ball or you need some length, they just don't have a ridiculous amount of length with the exception of Caleb Odom. And I think Caleb Odom is going to have a role in the offense as a result of his length, but...

They're all just a little bit undersized, but that's part of it. They can run and they can be really, really athletic, but the size is something that I'll be watching closely against really physical defensive backs. I expect to see him at this age of his career to know my mind and to know the adjustments to get us in the best possible scenario, whether it's pass or run, and to know situational football. I expect that of him, and it's my job. Ultimately, the buck stops with me, and I have to own what his performance is.

But if it's third and one and we have an RPO called, you know what? I have given him the tools to get the first down without having to throw the football. And so we have to understand the entirety of the offense. And I feel really comfortable that he's at a point that he's in pretty good position for that.

How quickly do you think you're going to be able to know if Peyton Thorne has turned a corner this season, Greg? And what will it be that you will need to see early from him that may allow you to believe that? I mean, the Cal game is probably going to be a decent test, I suppose. But let's be real. I mean, how good is Cal's defense?

middle of the road, top 40 defense, top 50 defense? I don't know. I really don't know. Obviously played them pretty well last year, so I guess if you judge based on last year, if there's room for growth there, you might be able to find something out pretty quickly. But I think the first real test against Oklahoma...

The first real legitimate defensive test will be against Oklahoma. I think it's a top-ten group on paper. And at that point, the big question we have with Oklahoma is, will they be able to weather the storm of the season? Well, that'll be week five. And they should probably still be in pretty good shape from a depth standpoint at that point. So that's really the first chance that we'll get to see just how much they've progressed on the offensive side of the football. But on paper, man...

I don't know if there's a team in the SEC that better addressed or that upgraded a sore spot more than what Auburn did with the weapons that they've brought into the mix this year. Because that was just such a headache last year. And Peyton Thorne, I think, is unfairly criticized because the personnel that he had around him was inadequate at wide receiver.

So I'm hopeful that they've turned the corner and will be much better, and it's going to make his job a whole lot easier as a result. Absolutely. All right, your thoughts on Auburn camp beginning.
