And Craneworks will bring him to us in the fall, but he's joining us today. A little bit of a preseason version of the voice of the Auburn Tigers. Andy, how are you doing?
Andy, there's a lot of hype around this Auburn receiving corps before they took the field. Now I think even a little bit more momentum is building around that group just based on a little bit of the practice viewing windows, some of the pictures, videos that are coming out across social media. What are you hearing just about the pass catchers, that new room for that Auburn football team heading into this season?
Yeah, Colt, and good to be with you today. And it is primarily a new room for Auburn. I mean, you do have a Camden Brown and a Caleb Burton III that are back from a year ago. But the freeze four, as they've been called, Perry Thompson and Bryce Kane, Cam Coleman and Malcolm Simmons, are making the waves that you would hope that they would today.
as true freshmen. And then you add guys like Robert Lewis and Keandre Lambert-Smith and Sam Jackson, transfer pool guys, veterans that come in from another program. And it's a really interesting mix in this wide receiver room. It is dramatically better than it was a year ago. And we knew that Auburn had to get dramatically better.
in that wide receiver room. I've got to think that it excites no one more than Peyton Thorne to have those guys available. He has some size. He has some guys that can get separation. He has more than just Revaldo Fairweather that he can throw the jump ball to, that fade to the back shoulder to this year. And just from everything I'm gathering and getting out of watching a little bit of practice as well,
This wide receiver room is living up to the billing through four days of practice. All right, let's keep that there. It's four days of practice. But in talking to guys on that side of the football and some guys on the other side of the football that are going up against those receivers, there's no question that it's incredibly – it is much more talented than it was a year ago, Colt.
Absolutely. Andy Burcham, voice of the Auburn Tigers, joining us from the Vires Rite Hotline will be with us every Tuesday this fall. And that should make Peyton Thorne's life easier. It also should be just a smidge easier based on his experience being around the program, being around the coaches. You've had a chance to catch up with him some this offseason. Do you see a different confidence in the Auburn quarterback?
I do, and I think a couple things. One, there is more talent around him, not only at wide receiver but up front. My guess is we'll talk a little offensive line if it's you and me today, Cole, on jocks. But I just – listen, he came in a year ago in June. He missed spring practice, hadn't transferred yet, and had to pick up a brand-new system and a brand-new program and a brand-new coaching staff.
And there were times a year ago where it was a struggle for Peyton Thorne. I do think that he was a better runner than we gave him credit for a year ago, and he showed his wheels a little bit, and I think we'll see that more this season. But listen, getting to go through a full year, getting to go through spring practice, and getting some better talent around him, he looks more confident. He looks a little more relaxed. He looks a little more in control.
than he was a year ago. Again, all of this is said and we're just four days into practice. Alabama A&M hasn't come to town yet. Cal hasn't been here. New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, that month of September that Auburn has. But so far...
and look forward to seeing the scrimmage this Saturday. To me, it looks like a more confident Auburn quarterback, and I think that should be, I think that's good news for the Auburn family that is anxiously awaiting what this team is going to be like this season. What would you like to learn in the scrimmage on Saturday specifically? Is there a position group? Is there just a part of the team? What would you like to come away from feeling much better about based on what you're going to see?
Well, and I'm not concerned at all about the offensive line, but I am interested in watching that offensive front on Saturday. And I think Connor Lue has a chance to be a really special player at center for Auburn. I thought he had a really – I mean, he's an All-American, freshman All-American a year ago. I love the fact that they were able to ring in Percy Lewis to move to left tackle. He's a big body at 6'7", 355. He walked by me at practice yesterday.
And he is every bit of that. He's an imposing figure there. But being able to move Dylan Wade in to the guard, Jeremiah Wright, I think the only thing that's held back Jeremiah Wright has been injuries. And I look for him to have a big year. And then, of course, you've got Tutal Miller out at right tackle. But then turn it around to the other side of the football. And I think I mentioned this last week. Guys like Trill Carter and Gage Keyes and Isaiah Rakes and Phillip Bleedy, Jason Jones, who's back. That's a lot of new names coming.
in that interior defensive front. The only question I have is we just haven't seen those guys yet in a scrimmage situation. So that's a side of the ball that I'm going to be watching is up front defensively just because there are so many new faces. I think Auburn has talent. I think Auburn has depth. We just haven't seen them yet. Hopefully we'll get a chance to see them on Saturday.
Absolutely. Andy Burch, voice of the Auburn Tigers, joining us on the Biosphere Hotline, heading into a scrimmage on Saturday. Recruiting continues to be trending upward for Hugh Freeze and his staff. How much better can this get? A lot of people thought maybe just Big Cat weekend, you get a couple of significant commits then, but it seems to still be trending upward and
Apparently a couple of flips could be on the way here soon. How far can this go for Coach Freeze and his staff, Andy? Well, Colin, you know this. I mean, it just never ends in this day and age. In the day and age of the transfer portal with a December signing period now and then that February signing period, it just never ends at this point. And Hugh Freeze made it known really since signing day last year
that he was going hard after the Alabama signing class, the state of Alabama signing class. Let me be clear when I say that. The state of Alabama signing class this year. And he identified the top ten. He said, I want to get all ten of them. And they have commitments from many of them at this point. And it hasn't ended. They had a commitment yesterday, as a matter of fact. So I think it still could continue to get – I think it will get better.
I think this staff recruits incredibly well. I think adding Charles Kelly to your staff not only helps you on the field in the secondary, but it helps you recruiting because he's always been known as a great recruiter. Marcus Davis, the wide receivers coach, has really developed into an outstanding recruiter for Auburn. Spent some time with Josh Aldridge in Birmingham a couple weeks ago.
He was there. We were there at the Greater Auburn, the Greater Birmingham Auburn Club. And he was part of the panel that we had on the stage and just talking with Josh about, and this was prior to Big Tap Weekend, just talking about the philosophy of this staff and how they get after it. And Cole, it's not just the folks like Josh Aldridge or Charles Kelly or the head coach.
But there's a lot of folks behind the scenes that do great work. Will Redman is Auburn's director of player personnel. He's an impressive young man to talk to, and that group that he has, and the recruiting folks, I mean, they just do a very, very good job. I don't see it ending, Cole, anytime soon. No, absolutely not. Andy, I wanted to go back one more on Peyton Thorne. We've heard Hugh Freeze talk about it, and it's the addition of –
Kent Austin on his staff. I don't think a lot of people understand maybe the importance of this or what this is actually going to mean for Peyton Thorne or the offense. How do you view that addition to this Auburn coaching staff? Well, it is an addition on the field, but it's not an addition to Auburn because he was an analyst for Auburn a year ago. So I think it's kind of the best of both worlds. And yes, he is new to the coaching staff, but he is not new to Peyton Thorne because he was working with Peyton
a year ago on that first staff that Hugh Freeze put together. So there's some familiarity there, but now he is the one calling the shots at the quarterback spot for Auburn. So I think that helps Peyton in a couple ways. Listen, it's kind of a multi-layered confidence that we see in Peyton Thorne. He's back. He's been here for a year now. He's gone through a full season, all of the rigors of the 23 season.
Spring ball, the added talent at wide receiver, the added talent up front, a tailback room that other than Brian Battee is back. You have almost an entire tight end room that is back, including Rivaldo Fairweather, who a lot of folks are sleeping on that young man. So I think there's a bunch of different things, and I think Kent Austin as his quarterback coach,
is just another piece to that puzzle, so to speak, for Peyton Thorne. I think it's all positive for Peyton right now. But again, we're four days into practice. A lot of things can happen, and you've got to keep guys healthy. Hugh Freeze talked about this last Thursday, the balance –
in this day and age of practicing, practicing hard in the preseason, but keeping guys healthy. And you've got to find that balance somewhere to get everything out of the practice that you can, that you want to, and yet keep guys healthy as well. One other quick one before we let you go. A couple of really cool non-conference games announced for Bruce Pearl's basketball team this year and the next few years. I know you have to be excited about those.
Well, it's an incredibly ambitious schedule. I'm not sure Auburn's ever had a non-conference schedule like this year. That includes Houston, in Houston, Purdue at Legacy Arena in Birmingham, Ohio State at the Holiday Hoopsgiving in Atlanta that has become a tradition now for Auburn, and then, oh, by the way, Duke at Cameron, and then the field that Auburn faces is
In Hawaii, which could include the two-time defending national champs in UConn. It is an incredibly tough schedule for Auburn. I think it is with...
in mind that Auburn has a great deal coming back, especially on the inside. They love the pieces that they've added to the puzzle on the perimeter. So, yeah, this is an enormous undertaking for Auburn in the preseason. And then you get to February and you've got a schedule that includes both Texas and Oklahoma, oh, by the way, in addition to Arkansas and Kentucky, an outstanding Alabama team as well. And you get Alabama twice, so...
Boy, this is going to be a fun, fun basketball season because every game out there is a big one for this Auburn team, to be sure. Absolutely. Andy, appreciate the time. Always great catching up with you. Look forward to next week.
My pleasure, Cole. Have a great day, bud. Yes, sir. Andy Burcham, voice of the Auburn Tigers, joining us on the Buyer's Right Hotline. We'll update on some of the things happening around fall camp for the Auburn Tigers, so basketball scheduling as well. When we come back on the other side, we'll get bad about it. Josh Newberg is going to be with us at 8.30 this morning and talk recruiting Auburn around the SEC, Alabama, what could be next for the Crimson Tide as far as commitments. We'll do all of that here in about 15 minutes.

Players whose team might not be having a great year, might not be doing great things, at least still have that opportunity to be celebrated. However, the Reds did beat the Marlins last night 10-3 to get to 54-58 on the season. Yes, sir. And Eli De La Cruz, who some might say is an average player. I would disagree with that. Goes four for five. Hits two home runs last night. Also two doubles last night. Drives in three.
That's now 20 home runs on the season, 57 stolen bases on the season as well. He's the third Cincinnati Red all-time with a 20 home run, 50 stolen base season. Can you name the other two? Pete Rose and Barry Larkin. That's actually a good guess. That's actually the two I would have gone with. It's Joe Morgan and Eric Davis. He's the first Red with 50 extra base hits and 50 stolen bases in a season since...
Brandon Phillips. Ken Griffey Jr. Damien had it on the first try. That would be very larking in 1995. It happens. So even in a win, which is still good, L.A. Daily Cruise was. About it. About it. You bet he was. Well, since we are a football show, I'm taking it to the gridiron. But I'm taking it up north. The Canadian Football League, my brothers. One Tevin Jones. We are familiar with Tevin Jones, former Memphis wide receiver. Yeah.
Yeah. He was a little T on that episode of Fresh Prince, yeah. Played Powerline, yeah. Well, Tevin Jones for the old Edmonton Elks in a 42-31 win over The Weeknd. Listen, he only had three catches.
But they were for 123 yards, and two of those things were for touchdowns. So my brother, Tevin Jones from Memphis, up there in Edmonton in the 42-31 win over the Saskatchewan Rough Riders. He was their first win of the season as well. Oh, there we go. First win of the season, baby. One and seven. Elks are on it. Bad teams have good players, too. That's true. That is true, except for the Chicago White Sox.
Well, we'll hear about them in about an hour and a half. Probably for the next couple of weeks, too. Yep. Me, I'm going to go patriotic, and I'm going to go to one place that Damien probably doesn't mess around with. That's the pool. And my bout about it this week is Katie Ledecky. Yes, sir.
Because not only did she, one of her four medals in Paris, she won the women's 400, excuse me, she bronzed in the 400 freestyle, got a silver in the 4x200 freestyle relay, got a gold in the 800 meter freestyle. But I'm looking at the 1500 meter freestyle, which she won, and she set an Olympic record at 15 minutes and 30 seconds. Wow, 30.02 seconds, whatever. That is an Olympic record.
And that is the eighth best of all time. The seven above her are all Katie Ledecky. The next 13 best times behind her are all Katie Ledecky. The top 20 times ever done in the 1,500 meters are all done by Katie Ledecky. And that, to me, definitely deserves being worthy of being... About it? About it? Yes.
I would agree. Also, I'll give a bout about it to Caroline Marks. Y'all know Caroline, right? Oh, Caroline. Sweet Caroline. Yeah, Richard's daughter. She picked up a gold medal yesterday in? Equestrian. No. I'm going to say archery. It was surfing. Oh. Way to keep up. Oh, Colin Jones. Caroline Marks gets a gold medal in surfing yesterday and becomes the second best
surfer ever to medal for the United States. Not second gold, the second medal ever for surfing for a United States athlete in the Olympics. So Caroline Marks was... About it, about it, about it, about it. She gets a double. Damien, you said you wanted to go to the football field, so we will go there over the weekend. We love our Elf League football. You bet we do. And if you don't, if you're not paying attention to it, you need to get with it. It's Damien in middle school. The...
The Stugat Surge had a big win over the weekend. Maybe could have qualified for our bad box score of the day as they win 51-18 over the Milano Seaman. Milano, by the way, passed for 38 yards in the game. So maybe the Stugat defense should be bad about it.
But nonetheless, quarterback Riley Hennessey goes 11-15, 185 yards passing, four touchdowns, zero interceptions, ran the ball three times for 46 yards, scored another touchdown. Riley Hennessey was. About it. About it. But to one-up Damien's receiver from the CFL, Yannick Mayer, three catches, 142 yards passing.
Two touchdowns in the game for the Stuttgart Surge. He also was. About it. About it. Surge on. Surge on. Surge on. That's what they say. Surge strong. Yeah. You can put on a shirt. Turn on the Surge. Keep surging. Keep surging. Oh, that may not be good now. That could be a bad taste. Perform surgery. Stuttgart Surge and Surge.
Just in case you were wondering on the flip side of that, Eric Saloum, the Milano quarterback, he was 4-15 for 49 yards, no touchdowns in a pick. That's disgusting. He was only sacked three times. Okay, three, that's not bad. That's a lot of protection. I'll give him credit. He ran the ball 19 times for 101 yards. I have a feeling that a lot of that was just running for his life. Yeah, they're a triple option team.
They're not an offensive line team.
Only slide protection. Just a bunch of bag benders out there. Only slide protection. Just a lot of whiffs. Just turnstiles up front. They carried their books every day. They didn't even put them in the locker. They had every textbook and then some library books checked out to take home every single day. They carried them with a wagon like they have now. No backpack. They had a Dewey decimal system in their backpack. A card catalog. Take it home.
Just to make sure. All right, that's about it. We celebrate individual greatness each and every week on the show. When we come back, recruiting. It has been ramped up for multiple SEC teams, and there could potentially be a big flip on the way for Hugh Freeze and Auburn staff.
Well, we're going to talk about it, and we're going to give you some expert insight on it from Josh Newberg next right here on Jocks 94.5. The capital of the sports talk nation. This is Jocks 94.5 and jocksfm.com. Hurry and... All right, welcome back in. McElroy and Kubelik in the morning.
8.30 a.m. Tuesday, August 6th, right here on JOX 94.5. Listen online at joxfm.com. App is in your app store, iPhone, Android. You can always download that for free. Tell that home smart speaker to enable the JOX skill, and you can always listen to us that way. I'm going to talk a little bit more recruiting around the SEC as it continues to be popular.
and ramped up for multiple Southeastern Conference programs. Josh Newberg joining us now to discuss it. You can find him at On3. You can find him on Twitter at Josh underscore Newberg. Josh, let's start with Auburn and just the momentum that Hugh Freeze is continuing to carry through Big Cat weekend. They go get Wayne Henry yesterday, third player from his high school that's committed. How much longer can this momentum continue for Hugh Freeze and his staff?
Man, a little bit more. I mean, it is, the planes are on fire right now coming out of the summer. But yeah, there's a little bit more left. Auburn has 22 commitments. And obviously the big rumor, what we've been talking about here at On3, Steve Wolfong wrote a big story on Friday, and we've been talking about it since. But, you know, Notre Dame quarterback Deuce Knight, he's from Mississippi. He's been solidly committed to Notre Dame for almost a year now.
And the rumors are he's flipping to Auburn. So that would be a huge one. He's a top 10 quarterback in the country. I believe he's in there at like number seven. Auburn, you know, flirted a little bit with Julian Lewis, but that started to fade away sometime in June. I kind of recognize that. I wasn't sure what direction they were exactly going to go because they were in on Hooson Longstreet out of California who went to Texas A&M, but it looks like Deuce Knight is
is the guy that Auburn wants. And yeah, there's a little bit more meat left on the bone for Auburn recruiting. If they were to get this commitment and they were to flip Deuce Knight, what exactly would Hugh Freeze and his staff be getting?
An unbelievable athletic quarterback with all the tools, somebody that fits the modern college football systems of being able to throw it deep but also being able to run. I mean, he's all of 6'4", 200 pounds, entering his senior year of high school. So the frames there, the athleticism's there, the arm's there. He's playing in the state of Mississippi.
So he understands football in the South, and he'd be a huge addition, not only just the fact that he's a quarterback, but he could come in with another five-star. We're talking Caleb Cunningham, the five-star wide receiver, number one player in the state of Mississippi, is committed to Alabama.
But at one time, he did name Auburn his leader back in June. It feels like a while ago now, but Deuce Knight and Caleb Cunningham, that would be a nice package deal coming to Auburn. They're a couple steps away, but they've got to get the flip, but that is a possibility.
All right, so Auburn momentum going to continue. Looks like things are heading in the right direction. Josh Newberg joining us on the Buyer's Right Hotline with the On3 Sports Network. Kalen DeBoer, I think, has exceeded most people's expectations in recruiting, mainly just because there are a lot of people that thought it couldn't be close to what Nick Saban was doing and it was going to take a massive dip. It has not. Based on what you've heard, who you've talked to, why has it been this good year one for Kalen DeBoer?
Well, you're right. The expectations. I mean, hey, there was a lot of Alabama fans. It wasn't just people. Let's get this straight. There was a lot of Alabama fans out there that were skeptical that Kalen DeBoer had what it took, at least in year one, to come in and recruit the Southwell. They've used their California connections, but they have recruited the Southwell, too. The thing that I've noticed...
that maybe stood out to me the most about Alabama and what they've done this summer is I don't think during official visit month of June when all the visits went down across the country, I don't think anybody turned
turned official visits into commitments better than Alabama. And I think that that comes from relationships being direct. I mean, they have guys. You don't see this in this day and age. You know, Cole, when you were a recruit, guys would take their official visits and commit on Sunday, and they would go home and tell the local newspaper, and that would be it. Well, nowadays, these guys want to make decisions.
decision dates. They want to be in an auditorium. Well, Alabama this summer, they threw all that out the window. They just had guys visiting and a day later they were committing to Alabama and nobody really in the country.
locked down recruits in the month of June better than Alabama. And that's why, you know, right now they're sitting at number two, just a hair behind Ohio State. But they were number one in the country in recruiting. And that in itself is remarkable because there were a lot of people that were doubting that at least in year one, Kalen DeBoer could come in and do this.
All right, Josh Newberg joining us on the Bioswag Hotline talking recruiting. Feels like Tennessee on a bit of an upswing right now also. A lot of momentum there with Josh Heupel's staff and what's happening in Knoxville. How high can they climb maybe the national rankings by the time it's said and done with this class and then maybe the following class as well? I know a big quarterback commit for Heupel and his staff earlier this week.
Yeah. They got the number on three's number one, 2026 quarterback and phase on Brent. And now he's out of North Carolina. We'll put that one to the side. He's 2026. He is the best quarterback in that class, but moving back to 2025, it's here getting George McIntyre on board early. He's from Brentwood Academy in Nashville. So he's local to Knoxville. He's been in on all these big visit weekends. He's been there. Ace recruiter. He's made a big difference. And the one piece that they need, I,
I hate to say it's make or break because you're going to have 25 really good players in this class, but David Sanders, the number one offensive tackle in America, is going to make his decision in under two weeks, August 17th. He's going to make his decision, and it's coming down to either
Tennessee, Nebraska, Ohio State, or Georgia. And honestly, right now, I think it's more of a Tennessee-Nebraska race with Ohio State and Georgia just on the outside looking in. But, you know, this is a huge recruitment for Tennessee because, remember, they were in on Jordan Seaton last year, the number one offensive tackle. He ends up committing to Colorado.
So both Ohio State and Tennessee were runners-up for the number one offensive tackle in America. This time, the number one offensive tackle in America. One of those two programs, again, is going to be runner-up for him. Newberg joining us on the Buyer's Right Hotline, talking recruiting. Is there a team that's maybe out there in the SEC? I know Georgia's had success and they're doing fine, but maybe...
You're just waiting for him to break out a little bit and finally be on par with some of these other schools in this cycle or maybe the following cycle?
Texas. And I know they're new to the SEC, so some fans are saying Texas. But, yeah, Texas is sitting in 15 right now. But they have five five-star targets making decisions this month. Tomorrow will be five-star wide receiver Khalil Glockett. All the experts have him trending to Texas. That would be their first five-star commit in this class. They're sitting at number 15. That would instantly move them much closer to the top.
top 10, then there's four more five stars that are deciding this month. And I think there's a good chance that Texas lands at least one or two more. But if things really go the right way and they say they land three, four, or maybe even five, I mean, you're talking a top three finish or a top three class at the end of August.
going from 15 into the top three, it's potentially there. Now, I don't think they're going to land all five, but I do think as it stands right now, Texas has zero five stars on its commit list. I think by the time August ends, they will have multiple five stars on their commit list.
You think about sort of where we are with NIL and recruiting kind of across the landscape. It feels like that financially a lot of things have evened out and maybe your elite recruiters are beginning to sort of resurface. Not that they were completely gone when NIL first showed up and got a little bit out of control.
But it feels like that's sort of leveled the playing field to a certain extent for the schools that can be there. And now those guys that can just go develop their relationships and get kids are starting to sort of shine a little bit more. Is that how you guys see it in the recruiting world a little bit? I think I see it in some recruitments. So in the beginning, you're right, the market was wild, right? Like there was no real feel for what market value was.
was at each position, now I think there's a better feel for market value. Now, of course, if you're willing to bust that market value and make a kid make a financial decision, that's still possible. But I think less and less teams are willing to really go above it
beyond what the market bears. So that being said, yeah, I do agree. If the money's equal, then what's the decision come back down to? Relationships, playing time, you know, all the old things that recruiting used to be. So yeah, I think in certain cases...
In a lot of cases, when the money is equal, when teams are like, hey, this is what we value you at, all three teams involved value you at the same, well, then the decision comes back down to old school recruiting relationships and that sort of thing. So, yeah, I think in some cases we do see NIL win out. But in some cases, if NIL's even, yeah, it's back to old school recruiting.
Who's the next big commitment that's scheduled that we need to be aware of, need to be watching? Who's next up? Well, tomorrow we got Kalik Lockett. He's out of Sachse, Texas. And his outcasts
Alabama has been making a late run at him. They landed Keelan Russell out of Duncanville, Texas, and they're friends. Alabama's trying to make this interesting, but I think ultimately he's going to end up at Texas. But later this month, we got another five-star wide receiver, Jamie French, out of the state of Florida. Miami's making a late surge at him, but Texas is heavily involved. He's another five-star. We talked about David Sanders. Michael Fasusi, he's another uncommitted.
He did five-star out of the state of Texas, a big offensive tackle that visited Florida State late. He visited Oklahoma. Texas is the favorite there. So there's some big decisions coming down. A lot of guys off the board in June and July, but there's a lot of top-tier talent that waited until August to make their decisions.
Josh, Cleek Lockett, Sachse, Texas, S-A-C-H-S-E. What is his high school's name? Do you have any idea? Do you know? Is it Sachse High School? Yeah, Sachse High School. The only reason I know how to, I avoided saying his hometown in high school for about three or four months, and then we had him here in Nashville, and I sat down and I said, how do you say your high school's name in
And he said, sassy. And I was like, oh, that's easy. Okay. And now I can't stop saying it. If their school fight song is not, I'm sassy and I know it, I don't know what we're doing. We're just doing it wrong. They're missing it. That's not it. Exactly. Josh, great stuff, man. Thanks for giving us some updates around recruiting. Appreciate your time. We'll do it again soon.
All right, man. Anytime you want to talk recruiting, we love to do it here at On3. Thank you. There you go. Josh Newberg with the On3 Sports Network. Follow him on Twitter at Josh underscore Newberg. Some good recruiting news there for both Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee. SEC just kind of collectively seems to be trending up a little bit. I'm sassy and I know it. Should that be the high school fight song there? Obviously. I mean, what else could it be? I don't really know of anything else you could throw in there.
Maybe I'm sexing it, I know it by LMFAO, but that feels too recent. Not the way I would have pronounced it. Just kind of thought maybe. Calling me bad, I want to sax you up. All right. Yeah, interesting. All right, we'll see. Texas, by the way, surprised that they're not keeping up with some of the Joneses because I think we thought with where NIL was, it was all going to be way ahead of the curve there. All right, that's a little bit of a recruiting update from John Stueberg. On the other side,
I want to go back to the coaches poll and have a little bit of a conversation about certain teams and where they rank and why. We'll do it next on Mac and Cube in the morning.

Austin Meek with us at the top to discuss everything happening with Michigan right now and just what that might mean long term. Also, we'll talk Georgia into the college football playoff next hour. But now I want to talk coaches poll for just a few moments. And when you think about just exactly what this what this means, not a lot.
But where certain teams are ranked, as John brought up earlier in the show, kind of versus one another, I do think it makes it just a little bit interesting. So I'm going to kind of throw out a couple of questions around the coaches poll for you guys. And if you want to be a part of this, you can. 800-239-9569, 800-239-WJOX. You can always be a part of the show there. Text in 205-834-9450, tweet in at Mac and Cube. So when you look at some of these teams against one another,
Coach's poll if you missed it. Georgia 1, Ohio State 2, Oregon 3, Texas 4, Bama 5, Ole Miss 6, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State. Round out the top 10. So if I asked you today, neutral site, who are you taking? Texas or Georgia? Texas. Neutral site. I'd have to lean Georgia. I'm taking Georgia as well there.
Okay, so if we go Texas, Georgia there, Texas or Ole Miss? Texas. Texas. I think today I'm taking Ole Miss, and I don't really know. This could change other days. Yeah, I could be convinced to take Ole Miss, but today I feel Texas. This is just kind of how I feel. Because I've answered both of them, Texas, but yes. This is how I feel right now. All right, what if I asked you Texas or Alabama right now?
I'd still link Texas. Yeah, Texas. That's a toss-up for me. Today, for whatever reason, I'm a little bit down on Texas, and I'm not really sure why. There's no significant rhyme or reason for it. It's just there's going to be days I'm a little down on Ole Miss. There's going to be days I'm a little down on Missouri. But I think for whatever reason, neutral site right now, my brain kind of tells me that I should take Texas, but I feel Alabama right now, which makes this next one really weird.
Alabama or Ole Miss? Bama. Right now, I would lean Ole Miss. I am too. Again, I don't know why because last week I think I would have leaned Alabama here. I'm a little up on Ole Miss. I'm a smidge up on Bama. I'm a little down on Texas. I think it's interesting when you start looking at some of these SEC teams against one another and kind of
where they are, not just from a rankings perspective, but if you're laying these teams out, Texas and Alabama against one another. Texas comes in at 4, Alabama at 5. I might have Alabama a smidge ahead. I don't know. Ole Miss at 6. I could be convinced to put them a little bit higher when you start placing these teams. So if I went with Ole Miss, Alabama, Texas, or Georgia against Missouri, does anybody take a Missouri on a neutral field? No. Against any of those teams? No. No.
Okay. LSU against any of those teams on a neutral field? No. LSU, Missouri, neutral field right now. LSU. Even though I feel like I'm on Missouri. That's a Mizzou for me, by the way. I have to lean Mizzou. I got a feeling about LSU today. Tennessee, LSU, neutral site right now. LSU, Tennessee, of course. I'm Tennessee. Oklahoma, Tennessee, neutral site today. Tennessee, Tennessee.
I think I'd go Tennessee as well right there. Texas A&M, Oklahoma neutral site today. Oklahoma. Oklahoma. Closer than you think though, right? Yeah. I say within 10. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, that one took me as – I kind of thought when I was beginning this practice that when I threw that one out, I would immediately go Oklahoma. But then I was like, well, hold on a second. I could see Oklahoma's O-line could be a problem. A&M's D-line legit. That could be an issue. It may end up being like a 10, 13-point game. But for most of the game, it's like three, four, five points. And Oklahoma pulls one out late.
to make it look like, oh, they dominated. It was 14 points. Well, for 58 minutes or for 55 minutes of it, yeah, it was a less than a one-score game. All right, so what if we went a little bit more national and we played this game and we continue to sort of spin it around? Oregon-Georgia neutral site. Georgia. Yeah. Oregon-Ohio State neutral site. Ohio State. Ohio State closed. Oregon-Texas. Texas. I go Oregon. I would go Texas there. Oregon-Alabama. Oregon. Alabama. Alabama.
I would take Alabama as well. Oregon Ole Miss I think could be really fun. I'd take the over. I'd lean Ole Miss. Today feels like Oregon. You're taking Oregon over Texas and Alabama, but you're taking Ole Miss over Oregon. Shoot out, man. I just heard that correctly? Yes, you did. Okay, I'm just making sure. Remember the source, Mr. Ketchup on his SpaghettiOs. I got it. Georgia, Ohio State, neutral field. Ohio State.
I see it's Georgia for me. I think it's Georgia. I think Ohio State's a better team, but I think Georgia finds a way to win that. I think Georgia will be able to run the football. I think that I'll take the experienced quarterback with the offensive coordinator that's back, a little more continuity there.
And I think Georgia's offensive line, albeit a couple new faces, physicality is still going to be there. I think ultimately physicality, just top to bottom, leans Georgia a little bit in that way. I feel like week one I would definitely take Georgia, but like week 10 I might lean Ohio State. Okay. I see where you're going, but I don't know if I would see it that way. Ohio State-Texas neutral site today. Ohio State. By the narrowest of margins, Ohio State.
Because you were really confident on Texas with a couple of other ones we just threw out there, Damien, and now you're with Oregon and Ohio State, you're rolling with the Ducks, okay, against Texas. Ohio State, Alabama, neutral site. Ohio State. Closer than the experts think, but yeah, yeah. Ohio State. That one took me a second when I thought about it. I might lean Ohio State right now, but not as convincing as I may have thought when I initially put it together. I put money on it. I wouldn't feel good about it. Yeah, I wouldn't either. Ohio State, Ole Miss. Ohio State. Ohio State.
So you think about it and you go Ole Miss over Oregon, but Ohio State-Ole Miss is a slam dunk. Ohio State, got it. Right now, man. This generation. I would lean Ohio State. The youth. Here's why I wanted to do this. It's because, I think, number one, it furthers the point of what John said earlier about some of these teams we just have to put somewhere. We just have to find a place to put them.
For me, that grouping would be Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State. I would have Penn State a nod ahead of those two. Ole Miss as well, a nod ahead. Then I think you also have Missouri, LSU, Utah, Tennessee, Oklahoma, maybe Clemson, Miami in that group. Got to find a place for those, and they all seem to sort of be log jammed together. The misnomers, I think, are...
Maybe that group that I mentioned with Notre Dame, Michigan, Florida State, and this is where it becomes difficult of what have they done recently? How much do you trust them? It's kind of like what Brian Driscoll told us earlier, like Notre Dame's got to prove it to some people that they can sort of get over that hump. And then how many changes do they have? What do you like that they have right now? What do you like that they've added?
So it's a fun practice to kind of go with where you view certain teams right this second and then how you view them against other teams on a neutral site today. We'll continue talking college football when we come back with Austin Meek. Michigan, are they in trouble? This is McElroy and Cubelik in the morning. It's time for Bob's Dare to compare.
