Welcome in Austin Meek. He covers the Michigan Wolverines. Austin, how much has your opinion changed about
punishment for Michigan prior to the last 48 hours and then since everything that we've learned the last 48 hours? Yeah, I'd say based on what came out in the draft of the notice of allegations that Michigan got over the weekend, it looks to me like they're
They may be in a little bit more trouble than I would have thought before seeing those allegations, primarily because you have Sharon Moore, the head coach, involved in a way that had not been publicly known prior to that. So I would anticipate there probably would be some penalties for Sharon Moore. And I think the allegations that are presented in that draft definitely paint a picture of quite a few people at Michigan not being fully cooperative with
with the investigation into the the connor stallions science stealing scheme i think that lack of cooperation could maybe um bring some some tougher penalties on michigan but i wouldn't say it's it's anything you know that significantly changes the story in my mind there's no allegation in there that i'm aware of that sharon moore anybody else at michigan
was involved in the science dealing and the scouting, knew about it in advance, more about what they did after the fact, which certainly is not good and doesn't reflect particularly well on Michigan. But it's not the worst case scenario from Michigan's perspective.
Austin Meek joining us to talk Michigan football covers Michigan for the athletic at by Austin Meek. You can find him on Twitter. Anything changed with what you heard from Jim Harbaugh yesterday? Just your opinion of his involvement in his knowledge. I don't know. It's pretty much what we expected to hear. It's not going to get out and say anything else, but did that offer any difference in what you may think or see or feel about a certain thing that happened with this entire situation?
No, that's really been Jim Harbaugh's stance throughout this whole thing. He feels that he's innocent, that his players are innocent, and that he doesn't feel that he had a responsibility to know about what Connor Stallions was doing or what was going on in his program. I certainly think people can disagree with that because as the head coach at the University of Michigan,
Everything that happens in that program, to some extent, goes back to Jim Harbaugh, right? And head coaches are control freaks. You know, they want to know everything that's going on. Now, obviously, that's hard to do in an organization the size of Michigan. But it's still, you know, it is hard to believe that at no point
Did Jim Harbaugh or anybody else at Michigan at least ask the question of, hey, this Connor Stallion guy is pretty good at getting the other team's signals. I wonder how he's doing that. Is he just that good at watching the TV copy?
and figuring out what the signals are. It doesn't appear, at least there's no evidence, that anybody at Michigan asked that question or that Jim Harbaugh asked that question, but maybe he should have. I think there's certainly a strong argument to be made that as the head coach, he had an obligation to know more about what was going on in his program. Austin Meek joining us from the Buyer's Right Hotline. It kind of got me thinking just then when you're kind of running through how Jim has handled some things, what he has said about certain things,
Can you take us back as to what was the connection or what was the introduction or how these two got connected in the first place? You're talking Jim Harbaugh and Connor Stallions? Correct, yes.
You know, Connor Stallions, from what I understand, was basically a Michigan super fan, a guy who just hung around the program and tried to make himself useful. He wasn't a college football player. He didn't have a playing background. There was really nothing in his resume that would have said anything.
this is a guy that, you know, should be working for a, for a major college football program. He's one of those guys who would do anything to be, to be involved. And he worked his way into a role with the program. And, you know, he was good at what he was doing. And I think at some point,
People at Michigan, people on the staff recognize that, okay, this guy can bring some value to what we're doing, and let's give him a job for $50,000 a year and see if he can help us. And I think that was one of the, I think, shortcomings of Jim Harbaugh's program at Michigan is,
He wasn't real careful about some of the people he brought in to do different jobs, was not as thorough as he should have been in making sure that everybody was
who was part of the program, was somebody they could trust and that they thoroughly vetted and they knew exactly what was going on. I think that was the case with Connor Stallions. He was just trying to make himself useful, trying to make a name for himself in the coaching business, figured out a way to do it, and nobody at Michigan really looked closely enough to see the risks that were being created by having him as part of the program.
Austin Meek with us, covers Michigan for The Athletic. So spinning forward, show cause was something that was sort of mentioned earlier this week as it pertained to Sharon Moore. If you had to place a guess on it right now, what ends up being the punishment for him as the Michigan head, now the Michigan head football coach? I'm guessing in terms of what will be noticeable, what will have an effect, you know, the fan watching Michigan.
I would expect for Sharon Moore potentially a suspension similar to what Jim Harbaugh had last year. Jim Harbaugh was suspended by the school for the first three games of last season. It was a self-imposed penalty, and Jim Harbaugh had been accused of a Level 1 violation in a previous NCAA infractions case. Sharon Moore right now accused of a Level 2. So could we see Sharon Moore serve a short suspension maybe early in the 2025 season?
I think that's certainly a possibility. And then for Michigan as a program, I think the question is,
What is on the table in terms of institutional penalties to come out of this? Everybody asks about could Michigan end up vacating games or even vacating the national championship last year? I really don't think that's on the table. I have not heard anything to suggest that that's a possible outcome here. I think a postseason ban is another thing that has been discussed, and I think that's maybe a little more of a possibility, but
But I also think the NCAA has really tried to move away from punishments like that that would punish the current players on Michigan's team who had nothing to do with this. So I really think we could be looking at something like a fine, recruiting restrictions, things like that. And if Michigan can avoid a postseason ban and settle this with lesser penalties, I think that would probably be a win from Michigan's perspective.
Yeah, I mean, if that's all it was, I would think that that would be massive. Austin, I'm interested to get just kind of your thoughts on this football team. Obviously, that's a big story nationally. We have to cover and talk about it. But we've gone back and forth on the show just about what to expect. I think the front seven is going to be elite. I don't expect the offensive line, even with a couple of losses, to just go away. Obviously, the style of football is not going to take some massive 180 or anything.
But quarterback could be very different this year. You know, leadership continuity could be very different this year. What are your realistic expectations for this Michigan football team?
I think the bar for Michigan this year is to make the playoff. I think if Michigan makes the playoff, fans, people around the program will feel like that was a successful first season for Sharone Moore. I think everybody understands the challenge of replacing so many foundational players
in the program who were part of that national championship, especially on offense. There's a couple guys coming back on offense that we know and that people will remember, but there's a lot of new faces on that offense. But at the same time, as you mentioned, that front seven is going to be elite. In the secondary, Will Johnson, potentially a top five pick in the 2025 draft. So they have talent, and I think that...
I do think that Sharon Moore needs to have a good year in year one. I've been saying, I really think maybe the big rebuild for Michigan actually could hit next year because they have so many good underclassmen on defense that could get drafted really high. So I think people understand that there may be a small step back.
this season based on everything that Michigan lost. Um, but not a big one. And I think that Michigan has the talent to contend in the big 10. I think that that's a reasonable expectation for year one for sure. And more. What's your thousand foot view of the big 10? Um,
Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, and then maybe a severe drop-off there. Are there a couple other teams that you feel like we should be talking a little bit more about? Is Ohio State ahead of everybody else, far ahead of everybody else? I'm just kind of interested to get your thoughts on the league in general. Yeah, I'd say right now it's Ohio State and then a little bit of daylight between Ohio State and Oregon, and
And then a little more daylight between Oregon and Michigan and Penn State. That would be my top four. I had Michigan third just because I kind of need to see it with Penn State. Every year it seems like they have athletes coming back and
You feel like maybe this is the year that Penn State makes a move up toward the top, but I kind of need to see it from them first. I've seen it from Michigan. Right now, I'd probably put Michigan third behind Ohio State and Oregon. I think those are the two best teams in the
in the Big Ten. The Ohio State team to me just looks loaded. I mean, it looks like really from the time that Michigan won that national championship until now, everything that has been going on at Ohio State has been aimed at building a team that
that can beat Michigan. Basically, a team that can do what Michigan did last year. Watching Michigan win a national championship, I'm sure was really, really hard for people in Columbus who have had great teams over the last decade and haven't been able to do that.
So I think Ohio State, number one, I am pretty high on Oregon. I think they're going to be a factor coming in year one in the Big Ten. And then Michigan, to me, is a little bit of a wild card. I think they could be in the mix, but too many questions on offense for me to put Michigan at the level of Ohio State or Oregon. All right. Austin, appreciate the time. Great stuff. Good updates. Just a lot happening with that Michigan program right now. And thank you for taking the time to hop on and kind of straight some of it out with us. All right, guys. Appreciate it. Thanks for having me.

on the coaches poll that came out yesterday and then we'll dive into Georgia why they're going to be in the college football playoff and maybe we need to rephrase it for this team today as to
What could happen that could keep them out of the playoff? Is there anything? We'll discuss it right after this on McIlroy and Kubelik in the morning. Appreciate you tuning in. Coaches poll out yesterday. Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, your top five. Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Florida State, your next five. 11 through 15, Missouri, LSU, Utah, Clemson, Tennessee, Oklahoma, K-State, Oklahoma State, Miami A&M gets you to 20. And your final five in the top 25, Arizona, NC State, USC, Kansas, Iowa. A couple of interesting notes here before we begin our discussion on the Georgia Bulldogs.
SEC is the only conference that every member will play a team in the top 10 of the coaches poll this year. Every team. Purdue and Florida, the only two teams with four opponents in the top 10 of this year's coaches poll. Now, we've made a lot about that Florida schedule, and we've talked about how difficult that is and how tough that one's going to be.
But I will just throw it out there. Not a lot of people have kind of started to give Purdue that same grace with how tough their schedule is going to be. And by the way, that includes a trip to Corvallis. It's not even in that. Indiana State, Notre Dame, at Oregon State, Nebraska, at Wisconsin, at Illinois, Oregon at home, Northwestern, at Ohio State, Penn State at home, at Michigan State, at Indiana.
So not necessarily going to say it's exactly what Florida has, but a schedule that's very difficult that not a lot of people I don't think have maybe given Purdue the respect that maybe it deserves. West Virginia, folks, the only Big 12 team with an opponent ranked in the top 10. Not ranked in the top 10. Not the only Big 12 team in the top 10. The only Big 12 team who plays a team ranked in the preseason top 10. Mm-hmm.
Trying to generate an idea of what the Big 12 might be this year. Seven teams have at least five opponents ranked in the top 15. All are from the Southeastern Conference. It just means more. More difficult schedules. Yep. Florida, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt.
So just a couple of notes here on the coaches poll. We also mentioned earlier, Alabama is a 14 year streak opening in the top three. They're top. They were number five in 2009. That's the last time it happened. Unranked going into 2008. Last time that took place. So 14 straight years in the top three of the coaches preseason poll. That's stupid. But again,
It does just give you an idea of kind of where some conferences are, where certain leagues are. And I do think it's going to make the Big 12 super competitive and intriguing. But you get, like we talked about some of these SEC teams 10-2. We talked about some of these Big 10 teams 10-2 versus their schedules. What are you going to do with some 11-1 Big 12 teams or 10-2 Big 12 teams? They're not going to like those conversations. I'm going to go ahead and tell you that right now. I'm going to go ahead and lay it out there for you. Big 12 fans...
Not going to like – Bray Yormark, not going to like those conversations that we're having in November. If the playoff was based off these rankings, your number 13 team would be in at Utah. They would be the highest ranked. Your number 10 Florida State would be in, and everyone else in the top 10 would make it. So you're assuming that they're all – those are conference champions. Correct. If you're the highest ranked team, I assume as a conference champ. And then I guess –
Memphis is in? Memphis probably, Liberty, whatever. None of them are ranked. Yeah, they're not ranked, but if you just went by the order in which they received the most votes, others receiving votes was Washington, Louisville, Virginia Tech, SMU, Memphis, then Boise, Auburn, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Liberty. I was surprised Liberty didn't get more. Maybe they've seen their schedule and realized, paper tiger. It's not going to matter. No.
Probably, yeah. That could be a big part of it. It's an interesting thought, too, that if you think about it, that's what your playoff looks like. You would go see them and you would play it out. I don't think you're going to be disappointed with that. I think a lot of people would be pretty excited about it. It just feels weird that in a 12-team playoff, Team 11 and 12 don't make it.
According to these preseason rankings, but just using that as a basis. It just feels weird. Yeah, let's say this is the final ranking. Right, right, right. You can play it that way. Yeah. No, and then, I mean, how mad are Missouri and LSU fans going to be? What's their record going to be if they were sitting there? When you have an unranked and a 13, they made it. But 11 and 12 don't make it in a 12-team playoff. That's why two years later we're going to be at 18. Probably, yeah. That exact instance right there.
And then what we talked about with the Big 12, you don't think they're going to be going nuts when they have an 11-1 team that's 17th or 15th or 14th and they're not getting in? I mean, or a couple 10-2 teams that aren't even getting a sniff at it? Yeah, that's why we're going to push ahead and it's going to be a little bit different. We're going to go, they're going to add to it. They just are. Because I know we feel like we're solving a lot of problems with this.
But we realistically could be creating more problems than we're solving because more teams are going to feel like they should have an opportunity to get in and should have a chance to be playing for it. And they're going to begin to bark louder. And all of a sudden, they're going to be looking at it and the conference commissioners are going to be saying, I only got one team in. Hold on. I got four teams in, but I could be getting seven teams in. Yep. Expand it out. Here we go.
And it makes sense to think about the hows and whys that you would add more teams to it when you see it laid out this way. And we don't know exactly how it's going to look. We don't know exactly how it's going to be. But if it were to be close to this, I think it's easy for a lot of people to say, yeah, I could probably see why we might want to go that direction. And if you're Oregon, I think you sign up for this right now because if you play this out, Oregon would get Memphis at home.

Will Georgia make the playoff? Better yet, why could they not make the playoff? We'll discuss it next on Mac and Cube in the morning. The capital of the sports talk nation. This is Jocks 94.5 and jocksfm.com. Hurry and... All right, welcome back in. Hour number three, 929 a.m. Tuesday, August 6th, right here on Mac and Cube in the morning. and one that we will roll over from yesterday that I have a feeling we may continue to be rolling over for quite some time now. But first, we talk Georgia Bulldogs. We're picking one team every day leading into the college football season and discussing if they make the college football playoff. We ask you that question, will they be in?
Today, kind of similar to yesterday, I almost feel like we should reverse the question just a little bit. And if you want to get in on this conversation, you can. 800-239-9569, 800-239-WJOX, text in 205-834-9450. The question today should probably be more along the lines of what would have to happen for Georgia to not make the playoff? 13-1 a year ago, 8-0 in the SEC regular season play.
smash Florida State in the Orange Bowl. 65% of their production going to be back. 76% on offense. According to Bill Connolly, that's 25th best in the nation, which feels low, by the way, for 76%. Carson Beck is back. Dominic Lovett is back. Defensively, you'll get Smile Munden, Jalen Walker back.
And some of the losses outside of Brock Bauer is like, Immerse Mims, pretty big. Ladd McConkie, really good, but I think you have enough around him. I think Bullard and Tyke Smith being gone, a little bit bigger than people think. I think George is pretty excited about the center position, so Van Praam being gone. You're okay there. Daywon Edwards, Kendall Milton, Jack Saint, okay. Like, man. Dumas Johnson's off to Kentucky where apparently he's having a good camp.
But you get Trevor Etienne in. You get Colby Young in from Miami. London Humphreys is in from Vanderbilt, who I think is a solid slot receiver. And then you're going to have a group of freshmen that's going to compete for playing time. K.J. Bolden apparently is going to be a dude. He's going to be a guy that by week three or four is probably starting in that defense. Ellis Robinson comes in at corner. Big-time recruit. Could play early.
What is it about this team, if you had to really nitpick it and say reasons they might not make the college football playoff, what would those reasons even be for you, John? Outside of just stumbling somewhere in a game like they just don't have it, we've seen their defensive line over the last few years be elite and be run-stuffing, but they've all moved on to the NFL. We expect them to look like Texas did last year and kind of be that run-stuffer.
What if they're not that? What if they're just okay at stopping the run? Now, the secondary and the back seven should be good enough to propel them through the SEC and most likely make the playoff. But if teams are able to run on Georgia, which they haven't really been able to do over the last almost ever, now we got now. Okay, maybe we can start to see that gods can bleed with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Damian, do you look at certain things about this team and say, all right, that could keep them out? Yeah, it's kind of to John's point defensively that Georgia doesn't have just those glass eaters everywhere. They're just not the same on the defensive side of the ball. Because I think offensively, Carson Beck and those guys they have on the offensive side are
They're going to be fine. It's just, all right, maybe this defense is a little more human than they have been in years past. And then those games on the road, you know, I don't expect them to, you know, I don't expect them to lose to Kentucky, but you take that trip to Alabama. You take that trip to Texas. And we have a strong feeling of how those offenses are going to look. And say the one time that Georgia has to punt and they,
They don't get a stop on defense. The team goes down to score, and then all of a sudden they go three and out. Well, now you're going to be chasing. And it's a very unique position for Georgia to be in, but it is an out-the-rim of possibility because we've seen Alabama do it in the SEC championship game last year. Well, now you're about to get a full dose of that. And who's to say that Ole Miss, if the team on paper actually goes out and performs like they are expected to on the field,
Who's to say Ole Miss couldn't mess around and make an upset? Now, the game last year didn't go exactly how we thought it would, but who's to say that the team on paper that he has now isn't able to go out there and put up some points because this Georgia defense isn't as dominant as they have been the past couple seasons? All right, so here's where it becomes really interesting.
What does it take to keep them out? Because if we want to go personnel, I know where John's going, but I think the linebacking core is going to be good enough. The secondary is going to be good enough to cover it up. I also think Michael Williams has a chance to break out and potentially be a star on this football team and could really change what they are up front. We've seen a couple of small flashes of it. Obviously, I've not seen it consistently, but
And there's a few other guys that I feel like have an opportunity to break out in this Georgia defense that I think some of the coaching staff is sort of waiting on, like a Jalen Walker who we mentioned, a Raylan Wilson who we mentioned. All could sort of be those guys. So that being said, I don't think we're going to be able to go through the roster and say, well, this position group or this side of the ball are going to definitively be reasons they don't go. Right, right.
The thing that you appoint to would be the road schedule. And you would say, all right, Clemson neutral site, at Kentucky, at Bama, at Texas, Florida neutral site, at Ole Miss. So you play one true home game the first five weeks of the season. You don't play in Athens from weeks eight to 11. So the schedule you appoint to and say, all right, even just without the logos, the teams, the names, the personnel, it's a little bit more difficult than some people are saying.
But let's go a step further than that. 10-2 against this schedule? Oh, yeah, there you go. Yeah, so, okay, let's say you drop Texas and Alabama. You beat Ole Miss on the road. You beat Clemson in a neutral site who might be your ACC champions. You beat Kentucky and Florida away from home. Georgia Tech, if they have a good year in the ACC, that could be another one that you get that could be a good one. 10-3? 10-3?
I'm sorry, 9-3? Are they definitively out at 9-3? Let's say they drop Clemson in a weird one and then Texas and Ole Miss. In that scenario, the thing that hurts you is you lose two games after October 18th. Right. But you've got to win against Alabama early and against Tennessee late.
And you won at Kentucky. Yeah, yeah. And you won a neutral side game against a Florida team that might be better than we think, a Georgia Tech team, your rival at home that might be better than we think. There are some other ifs on there, like a what if Auburn is a little bit better. You beat Tennessee at home as well. Wow.
9-3, they would be a playoff team. I could see them being 10, 11, 12, whatever like that, but being left out because your Big 12 champ, your other champs are so lowly ranked that this 9-13 playoff. Basically, that team you were just talking about earlier of how the hell can we have a team ranked 10, 11, 12 and not be in a 12-team playoff. But I think at 9-3, they would be a playoff team, yes.
Yeah, because of some of the wins that you would have. I mean, I think if Georgia's 9-3 and you can pick the three – I mean, yeah, if they lose to Auburn, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss, I think we're – well, then you could still go back and say, hey, we beat Clemson, we beat Alabama. Yeah. We beat Texas. We beat Texas. I mean, hell, either way you spin it, they're going to have some – they're going to have a strong resume to present other than just straight losses, which –
I do sometimes think we, when we want to, we allow L's to not count as much. At the end of the day, a loss should be a loss, and it should count as that. But they are going to be able to most likely present as many or more good wins as a two-loss team as anybody else in the country. And then as a three-loss team, after you were to get past five or six, I don't think there's going to be a lot of resumes that would be better at that point. Not really, no. So...
For this team to be definitively out of the playoffs, are we saying that they have to lose four games? Definitively, yes, they would have to lose four because you can still have an opportunity. Think about what we're saying here. Think about what we're saying here is that we used to debate if one loss team should be in. Two loss teams should be in with VCS and or college football playoff. Now we are legitimately opening the door of a four loss team being in the conversation and making the playoff.
I'm with Damian for they're out. You can't put a four-loss football team in the NFL. No, no. I'm sorry. You just can't do it. I don't care what your schedule looks like. I mean, if we could flip this around and go look at Florida and say, okay, tough schedule in the country, like let's take the four losses, and, yeah, you're not going to sit there and say that they deserve to be in because they have a couple of good wins and because their schedule is so tough. You still lost four games. Right. I mean, you're losing over a quarter of your games.
So if by chance Georgia is 11-1, but that one loss is UMass, like how – if that were to happen. I know, but I mean – Here's the – Loss is a loss, but like really? They're not the number one seed. No, no. I mean, depending on if Ohio State or Oregon or Bama or, you know, whoever is – well, Bama wouldn't be undefeated then. I mean, everybody talks about the Oklahoma schedule. Like imagine if Georgia does run the table, what they are doing to the rest of this field.
You immediately remove Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss, Tennessee, Clemson from being undefeated. Right. It's wild to think about it that way, that they're going to have that kind of impact on this upcoming year with everybody that they play and what that's going to look like. Oklahoma, kind of the same thing with the teams that they're going to play. But I don't know, Damian, maybe that's a good poll question on Twitter. Three-loss team get in, four-loss team get in. Whew.
Probably start with the 9-3. Right, yeah. Where people go with that, do you think a 9-3 Georgia team is definitively in the playoff? Which is still hard to say because you don't know what the other teams in other leagues are doing. But it feels like right now, we took a couple of 10-2 teams earlier in the week and said, nah. Right. But now you can take this team 9-3 and have a real conversation. Because at least they would have the resume to back it up. And I wonder if...
some maybe humanity would kind of roll over in that I know they kind of wanted to put Georgia in, but like, hey, you lost last year. You can't really put them in with the loss, even though that was probably the best loss to have. So if they could find a way almost to maybe, I think human nature might send us like, ugh. Like, it's still Georgia. Almost like, yeah, you know, let's mulligan it. Let's make good them.
But there's carryover every year. Michigan is benefiting from that right now. Absolutely. They won the national championship last year. Florida State is benefiting from that right now, being a top ten football team. You could probably even say Missouri is benefiting from that. I think Missouri is better than 11. But on a normal year with a lot of guys coming back, are they going to be 11? No, they're not going to be there. So, yeah, there's always going to be carryover.
And some teams, depending on the size of the brand and the quality of the brand, that carryover means a little bit more year in, year out. So interesting talk on Georgia. I think they're going to be a really good football team. I think the offensive line is going to be solid. I think Carson Beck's going to have a monster year. I think the run game has a chance to be a little bit better. I think, and you guys tell me, you don't have to go in depth, crazy, not crazy. And I know there were some big bailout plays last year, specifically Auburn.
a couple of others, but I'm not going to say it's definitively going to be better because you don't have that weapon, but I think this offense could be more effective this year without Brock Bowers because I think it's going to prevent Carson Beck from making sure he finds him. I think it's going to prevent Mike Bobo from making sure he draws up plays to get it to him. Now, he was super dynamic when he got it. I'm not saying that, but I think you almost unintentionally become more balanced, and what are you taking away from this offense?
Because you have two, three tight ends are going to be really good. You have four, five wide receivers are going to be really good. A couple of running backs are going to be really good. A quarterback that can get it wherever he wants to at any point in time. So wherever that focal point is, that emphasis is, they have the ability to just go to the other part of your defense and make you wrong. And there's not a lot of teams that can spread the wealth as much as I think this offense is going to be able to. And if they're as physical as I think they're going to be, it's going to be even more problematic.
I just think removing the, we have to find a way to get the ball to that guy. And I love Brock. I thought he was amazing. Possibly the best tight end ever played college football. But I do think that mentally it shifts some things to allow you to be more effective in
Maybe not as dangerous, but just more effective in different ways when you're managing your offense. I think you said the right word. Balance. And that there are a couple of teams out there, not only in college, but also in pro, that you know, hey, we've got to stop this guy. We've got to make sure Justin Jefferson doesn't get the ball. We've got to keep it out of his hands. But if you do that with Georgia with one person, you've still got six, seven, eight, nine other options. Right. Okay, take away one guy. We've still got this. Yeah.
I think you're right, yeah. The best word for that is the offense would be more effective, even though they are losing a player of the caliber of Brock Bowers. Yeah. I mean, you get fourth and eight, third and 12, like you want Brock Bowers. Absolutely. Right, right. But when you have the options that they do and the experience they do at quarterback inside the scheme, and it doesn't look like there's a lot of weaknesses, you probably aren't going to be seeing a ton of third and twelves and fourth and eights. It's the reality of it. So crazy or not crazy, Damian? Crazy.
No, I don't think it's crazy. He's in the same situation as Brock Purdy is in San Francisco. It's, I don't need to overthink this. Just give one of these playmakers the ball and let them do the rest. No need to overthink it. Whoever looks like they have the easiest path to success, let's just let him rip and we'll be okay. Yeah, I like that. You're banking on the fact that maybe you're...
your third corner, if you're the defense, your third corner, where Georgia's banking on the fact that they know their third best wide receiver is a heck of a lot better than your third best corner. Yep. And other times it's just as easy as a box count. Yeah. Five in the box, cool. Hand off. I mean, it's not hard. Oh, you want to play 10 yards off? Cool. Bubble. I mean, if Carson Beck keeps it that simple...
and Bobo allows him to, then they're going to be tough to stop no matter how you spin it. All right, good stuff there. Georgia, our team of the day, talking about will they make the college football playoff. Fun conversation there. When we come back, you probably know what it is. We'll add one or two. We'll be back on Thursday.
But we try to bring it to you each and every day to let you know who the best of the worst actually is. It's our bad box score of the day. Personal file, 69. Offense, he was giving them the business. Intentional rounding, offense number seven. It's a 10-yard penalty. I'm talking to America here. I think in general, we've all enjoyed the Olympics. We have, yes. It's been a good thing to have it on.
Most of us. I've got to be honest with you guys, there's too many events in this thing. Oh, boy. Dude, it comes around for two weeks or every four years. Let them cram it in. You better get ready for 28 then. United States gets the silver. Oh, we've got flag footballs coming in. Yes, sir. Why is Jalen Hurts doing that commercial? Are we pretending like we're putting NFL players in this? I'm pretty sure Tyreek Hill is going to try his best. Right. We'll get one. Okay. Okay.
The United States takes silver in triathlon yesterday. There we go. It's not bad. Mixed relay triathlon. Folks, we have too many events. I'm fine if you want to go have a triathlon. Have a men's triathlon. Have a women's triathlon. We need a mixed relay triathlon? Yeah.
If track can do it, then damn it, so can we. And you're right. Track and swimming have too many events. Yeah, it's a bunch. I don't need all of them. The 100, the 150, the 200, the 250. Lee Yuhong took home gold yesterday in shooting the 25-meter rapid-fire pistol men's. Oh, yeah. Rapid fire. Okay, all right. The John Wick? What are we talking? I don't know. I just...
See, shoot. That's all you got to do. He shot more and he scored more. Got him a gold medal, actually. Yeah. That's all it took. Who knew? I just, it's, you know, we've got the mixed multi-hole sailing final today. Y'all get excited for that one. I just, we don't need all of these.
That seems like a mouthful. I feel like that's a late add-on. I don't think that's been there. Just put the regular events in and don't have the 72 spinoffs of each one, and I think we'll be just fine. Got rid of softball for this. Okay, all right. There you go. See? Three-on-three basketball, and a lot of people are glad that that one's back. I will give you a bad box score today. Yesterday, as the Netherlands took out Lithuania 20-9. That's a beatdown. That's a double-off.
I feel like that's not very good. For Lithuania, they shot 5 of 11 on ones, 2 of 10 on twos. Bad time to go cold. 7 of 21, not great. They did not shoot a free throw. The Netherlands shot 12 free throws in the game.
They were missing one-point shots and didn't attempt a free throw. They were playing scared. They weren't attacking the rim. I love that you try to put, like, strategic – That's very nice. They played like an expletive, okay? Don't try to overanalyze this. It's just bad box score of the day. It's not bad box score analysis. It's bad box score of the day. It's not real nice science guys, bad box scores, okay? Okay.
We don't need all that. All right, finally, the White Sox don't win yesterday. We said this was the one that they needed to get. Five to one. They go to 27-88 on the season. 21st straight game. It matches the 1988 Orioles for 0-21 that year. We mentioned it a little bit earlier. Longest losing streak in American League history. Tied for the second longest by any team since 1900.
Now, keep in mind, Major League record, 26 straight losses by the 1889 Louisville Colonels of the American Association. They're on pace to finish 38-124. That would be the second most losses in Major League Baseball history if that happens. Okay, so they won't be the worst. No, the 1899 Cleveland Spiders lost 134. The old Cleveland Spiders. Should have called Waynes. The old Cleveland Spiders. I think they did if they lost that many.
They're the only team to lose more than 120 games. The 62 Mets have the modern-day record with 120 defeats in their expansion season. It was their 115th game yesterday. 27-88 record is the worst by any team through 115 games since 1916. 47 games left. You know the Cleveland Spiders? Are y'all familiar with old Cowboy Jones? Yeah, he was on the game day intro with Bigger Mitch, right? Yeah, he's a cowboy boot guy. Yeah, yeah.
No. What about old Sport McAllister? He's good at sports. Yeah. Old Cupid Charles. He plays at weddings. Give him the old nickname, team.
He shuffled his way to first, I bet, when you walked in. You know, I guess the good thing about the futility of the White Sox is that all the Barons players who are the Southern League division winning Barons, they're going to get to go to the show, I guess, because this bad team, yeah, might as well call up these guys. Call them up. Yeah.
You would think, but that's not always how it works. To no surprise, the White Sox are 0-14 on Mondays this year. Maybe we shouldn't have said that's the order they need to get. They're the only team in Major League Baseball. How about this? The only team in Major League Baseball that is winless on a particular day of the week this entire season. We know we're doing Tuesdays. Congrats, White Sox. You are not our pick to click. This is McElroy and Kulik in the Morning.

The question is, as you said, it's got to go from four to eight. I think they can do that. It would be hard not to get better considering how bad they were on the offensive line last year.
