Hello, my beautiful people, and welcome back to the Moments Podcast. I'm your host, Lexi Hidalgo, and today...

I'm giving you some gift guides, but not just a basic gift guide where I give you like a link and I tell you to buy all these random things that everybody has, like the most popular pair of shoes or the most trendy bag that's going around. Well, I do believe that those are great gifts and I always love a little trendy gift moment. And I find those gift guides very useful. I want to give you some other ideas, like how to save your money on a gift, how to,

combine the perfect things to make the perfect gift for the perfect person that can be thoughtful and unique, but sometimes inexpensive, sometimes expensive. It depends on what you want to spend. Um, but really just some, some unique ideas and different things to think about. The amount of things that we consume this time of year is a little bit terrifying. And I can't sit here and say that I'm somebody who's so perfect and doesn't fall into the consumerism trap constantly. Like I'm literally an influencer, but,

I have a lot of stuff. I have way too much stuff. I love wearing new outfits. I don't like wearing the same thing a million times in a row. Um, except that's not true because I've literally worn these pants four days in a row, but that's besides the point. I just want us to think about different options. And I have learned in, well, this is my first year only giving really thoughtful and intimate and handmade, well-crafted thought out gifts. So I'm

This is my first year doing it, but so far it's proven to be a lot more rewarding than just the way that I typically give gifts. I love giving gifts. I love to...

spend as much money as possible on people that I love. Like last year I was quite literally Santa Claus. I got so much for my brothers and my mom and my dad. And it was weird because we were all sitting at dinner just a couple of months ago and we all were just kind of trying to reminisce on what we got last year for Christmas. And half of us couldn't remember. Like we couldn't remember most of the things that we got because so much of what we got were just like

random pieces of nonsense that yes, maybe we still use, but nothing was like, oh my gosh, this was so thoughtful. And I, I remember you giving me this and it's the best thing in the world, which is nobody's fault. You know, like I'm not mad at anybody for not remembering what I got them. And I'm not mad at myself for not remembering what they got me because that's just what happens to us. Like we're just conditioned to go to the next thing and the next thing and the next thing. But I think that giving gifts like this will

change a lot of that and not that it matters completely, but it is a good feeling. And I think that you'll feel more fulfilled when you give something like this than you feel when you just give something that was expensive or something that was trendy. Okay. It's just been a

Is it fun because it's giving something to somebody that I love, but it's been like a cool little outlet for me to be creative and to just do arts and crafts and to put my phone down and stop scrolling on Tik TOK and instead to like play with clay and paint it, you know, and then do an art project. How often do we get to sit down and do art projects now? I mean, I don't know how creative you guys are. I don't know if you guys still scrapbook or journal or

do things of this nature, but I've been slacking a lot on it and it's been really wholesome for me. So without further ado, I wrote down a few things and I'll probably go off topic and I'll probably not even make it down the whole list, but let's just go ahead and get into it. The first little section that I made is a few ideas for homemade gifts. And what I'm going to tell you right now is that when you make these homemade gifts, they're not free. Okay. Yes, it's inexpensive to do gifts this way, but

You have to think about how much time you're going to be spending. Homemade gifts can be very, very time consuming. Inexpensive, but time consuming. So just something to think about. First thing I wrote down for homemade gifts is

Anything with air dry clay. When I tell you guys, all it takes is one simple search in the TikTok bar to find the most ginormous list of ideas or on Pinterest of different things that you can make with air dry clay, a few things that you can do.

And the one that I've been doing that I believe to be the most beginner friendly, um, because again, with these handmade gifts and these thoughtful gifts, they're not always going to look like the nicest thing on the shelf. Okay. A lot of them are going to look like you made them. That's the point I personally believe, but certain people in your life, I'm sure, you know, wouldn't put a handmade jewelry dish on their kitchen counter. I mean, on their bathroom counter, they want that. They want that thing looking sharp and nice. So, um,

Again, think about these things when you think about the person that you're gifting it to, but a jewelry dish is pretty beginner and almost anybody can make a jewelry dish look good. It's just going to take time. There are plenty of tutorials, but you can do a jewelry dish and you can put a little bow on your jewelry dish. You can make it as simple as possible. Then you can paint over it. And what I actually just purchased is

UV resin. So you paint the UV resin on there and then you use like a gel lamp that you use on your nails and you do it over the UV resin and then it hardens and it looks like the most

beautiful store-bought piece of handmade craft ever. So I'm very excited. I haven't used it yet, but I will keep you guys updated on how it goes. And if you don't follow me on Instagram, TikTok, it's all Lexidalgo and I'll probably be posting some of these handmade gifts. So if you want more ideas and inspo, you could go there. But another thing I've seen people make are fridge magnets. I think that fridge magnets are a super cute little idea to just

add into, I don't know, maybe everybody's gift. You know, if you have a friend who's obsessed with avocados, probably takes you five minutes to make a little avocado magnet, actually maybe like 20 minutes, but thoughtful and cute. And if you're friends with the right people, those things will be appreciated and they will be appreciated.

So loved they will be so loved because I'm that kind of person if I receive something That I know somebody went out of their way to think about what I like or think about me when they made it Gosh, I am treasuring that for my whole entire life forever and ever and ever I've also seen people make picture frames Candle holders you can literally just make trinkets if you have a friend who? just bought a house you could make them a little house out of clay and

And on the bottom of it you could write like the year that they got their house or you know write all the people that live in it if it's like her and her boyfriend or something.

If they just got a dog, you could make them a clay little paw print. There's so many different things that you could do with clay that are easy and fun and good for your mental health, but also so genuine of a gift. And those are easy and inexpensive enough that you could just add them in with something else if you want. For example, my dog.

boyfriend's mom is getting baptized this weekend and I wanted to make her something with clay and I was just gonna make her a jewelry dish but while I was making the jewelry dish I was like oh my gosh I want to make her a cross

And I just used my air dry clay, I shaped out a cross, and then once it dries, I'm gonna paint it, and I'm gonna write her name, you know, in a beautiful little cursive print, and I'm going to stamp the year, or maybe even the day that she got baptized on there, I haven't painted it yet, but

Something for her to keep next to her nightstand to remember like how incredible what she just did was. And even if you want to take some of this advice or ideas into other kinds of gifts, like we're not just talking holiday gifts here. If it's somebody's birthday, maybe graduation, maybe they passed a big exam, whenever you like to give a little gift or a thoughtful thing, sometimes clay is a fun thing to introduce other than just a card. You know what I mean?

ordered all the stuff I used on Amazon, I'm going to make a little section on my Amazon storefront of all of the arts and crafts supplies that I buy. Some of them are inexpensive. Some of it's a little bit more expensive, but you know, just get what you need. If you only want to make a couple of things with clay, you don't need a 10 pound jar of clay, but then again, it doesn't go bad, at least not that I know of. So might as well keep it. But yeah,

Everything that I use for my arts and crafts, I'll put in an Amazon storefront and you can just go there, get what you want, and yeah, make some freaking clay things.

A quick little intermission, you guys. I'm telling you about something you've heard me talk about many times before, and that is therapy, because I love it. Quick little intermission and let me tell you guys, this is such an exciting ad for me to be doing because as you may or may not know, I just recently got engaged and it was the best day of my whole entire life and I am so beyond excited to marry the love of my life and to just go on this next venture together. But one thing that is absolutely horrifying for me is planning a wedding.

I heard of this company called Zola and for me to be telling you about them is just so cool for me because They're amazing. They make everything so easy and what it is. It's modern wedding planning for modern couples No lie was Zola you can plan your entire wedding entire wedding in one convenient place Not only does Zola have every tool that you need to make planning enjoyable from making your vendor search non-anxiety inducing to wedding websites and

helps you with an instant registry that you can literally build out with one click. They also just really get you. There's no right way to do things. There's only what's right for you and Zola will have your back from day one to day wedding day. Start planning at Zola.com. That's Z-O-L-A.com. Trust me guys, I don't even know where to start and Zola has made this extremely, extremely better. So just go check it out. Another thing that I saw on TikTok that somebody did was a

They went to Michael's and again, I haven't done this one yet. So once I figure out all the supplies needed, I'll add them to that Amazon storefront. That way you can find everything that I give you an idea for or talk about you could find on there, but they took plates. I don't know if they're ceramic plates or glass plates, but they got these paint markers.

And they made custom plates, you know? They did little cute designs on the outside of the plate and then on the inside of it, like wrote in script or in bubble letters the family's last name or if it's a wedding gift, the year they got married.

whatever it may be. I've seen such cute ones or if it's like a new couple that just got engaged and you just want to give them a little something, something to remember the day that it happened, you could make them a plate for that. You could also do this on, I think I saw it on cups and also on bowls. And again, all of these ideas you can find on TikTok, you can find on Pinterest. That's the real beauty of social media with all the negatives that come with it. Like it is so awesome to be able to just go to Pinterest and look up

handmade air dry clay gifts and just have pages and pages to scroll of different ideas and even if i'm not a talented with a paint pen or with the clay i can find something that i'm capable of doing if i'm willing to put the time in you know another thing that i love to do and this is something that i do for my boyfriend on a lot of our different random month anniversaries whenever i'm feeling like extra cute and thoughtful that month i will get a picture frame

any picture frame, go to Michael's, go on Amazon. Again, I'll put some in the Amazon that I have and get your pictures printed. You can get your pictures printed at CVS. It's super easy. I have a lot of people ask me every time I post pictures, like where do you get them printed? So easy. Go to cvs.com or any pharmacy near you honestly might do it. Walgreens does too. They usually have a photo section in there. You can go in person and do it or just select the photos online, put them in, go pick them up the same day. Very easy, very simple. But you

you'll get a picture frame that you like, and then you'll get maybe three to five different pictures with this person. Or if you have a lot of pictures with this person, maybe 10 of them, or even just two, or even just put one picture in this frame. But the thing that makes this special is on the back of the photo, you're just going to write like a message to them, a really thoughtful little moment to them. And if you

printed out different memories. This one's cute for a grandparent. Say you have a photo of you guys at the pumpkin patch or a picture of you guys when you were little. Write about what you remember from that moment. And I think this is really special for grandparents because they are so nostalgic. At least my grandparents always loved to think about when we were little and my one grandma Mimi especially, like

We always talk about the things that we used to do together when we would go to the nail salon, when we would bake cookies together or banana bread. So I would want to find pictures from things like that and just write about what they meant to me and how lucky I felt to experience them. And I just think this is something that's really sweet and also really inexpensive. And your grandma's going to remember it a lot more than she's going to remember like a candle or something.

nothing wrong with candles, but this is also great for again, family or dad, your mom, maybe not your siblings. I feel like siblings don't care so much about this stuff. At least mine, because I have two younger brothers. But the last one I have for handmade is a thoughtful card. Literally it could be as simple as that. Certain people really appreciate words of affirmation. I'm one of those people. Like if literally everybody in my life just got me a card and

For the holidays, I would be the happiest girl in the world. I love cards. I've saved every card I've ever received in my whole entire life. I don't know how people throw them away. I just want to remember everything that everybody's ever said to me, unless it's a card that they didn't write in and it's just like a random CVS card. But

When I say a thoughtful card, I mean, make them a card, paint them a watercolor card or use the markers or the crayons that you have at home, or even just use a pen and just make it something that is meaningful, something that they'd want to put in a little picture frame by their bed. You know, sometimes a card is all you can do and it's all you should do. Or if you want to do a card, but you want to spice it up a little bit and it's for a friend, think about, um,

Where do they like to eat? Where do they buy their makeup? And what's something that they like to do a lot, right? So if they eat Chick-fil-A every day, throw in a little Chick-fil-A gift card and they get a coffee with it. Throw in a Starbucks gift card, Dunkin' gift card. Gift cards don't have to be like a cheap, easy out gift. I actually think gift cards can be

really thoughtful and cute gift. If you do it right, you know, don't give somebody a basic Visa gift card, show them that you know them and get them something that you know that they will use. Okay. If they go to target for all of their essentials, give them a target gift card. Everybody loves a gift card, especially when you find it five years later and you haven't used it yet. Um, seriously though, gift cards are not a bad gift, especially if you're, you know, quick on time and you don't have a lot of time, but just make the gift cards thoughtful. You get what I'm saying? Okay. The next one I have is

I made a different section called like cheaper gifts, but so something I've really been into is thrifting. And I have been absolutely loving to go thrifting with a different person in mind each time that I go. For example, I just went to the thrift store and for anybody who doesn't know how to thrift and find it to be really intimidating and like you don't have the patience to do it. I used to feel the same exact way, like completely the same way. But that's because when I would go to the thrift store,

I would be looking for clothes. Don't go to the thrift store looking for clothes. It's exhausting for me personally. It can be pretty boring and likely very unsuccessful or something that I get and I bring home. I never end up wearing, but where I really learned to love thrifting was going to the home decor section and the furniture section and just anywhere except the clothing section because I

Wow, there's so many good finds. So for the past few months, I've been going to the thrift store because I moved into my house about a year ago and I feel like there's just still so much empty space, you know, and when I go to HomeGoods to get home decor, it's like $24 for a tiny little sculpture of a draft or something, you know, and it's

that adds up. And when I want to fill my space and I want to fill it quick, I can't afford to be doing that. Um, because I tried that and it's, it's unsuccessful. And then all the pieces that I have, like, don't even feel like me. They feel like I bought them just to fill the space. Right. So I've been going to the thrift store with my house in mind, and I've been able to find the coolest little knickknacks to fill my shelves. Um,

One thing about me, one thing I think everybody should apply to their life is that a shelf should be busy. I don't really love open space. I like a coffee table that's full of things or knickknacks or books or magazines or scrapbooks. I love a shelf that has a bunch of random trinkets on it and I love plants everywhere. Maybe thrifting for your home isn't for you if you like a very cleanly space with nothing on the counters.

You might not find anything at the thrift store, but I still think you could. You know, you could find a cute canister for your kitchen. I'm getting, I'm getting besides the point. I need to make a whole separate video just about thrifting because it is currently my new obsession and I'm addicted to it. But

I've been thrifting and I've been finding the coolest things to put on my shelf that are from people's different lifetimes. Pieces that I have no idea what their story is, but now I'm adding to it by bringing it into my home. I got the coolest elephant bookends that I am staring at right now as I speak that were $2 each from the thrift store. And they like really complete my bookshelf. You just have to go into the thrift store with...

patience and just Zen, you know, I don't go to the thrift store with people. I don't recommend going with a single person, even if it's your best friend, go to the thrift store alone. It's also a wonderful way to get to know yourself better because especially when you go alone, you can't ask anybody for advice. You have to just like get it if you think it's cute. And that sounds really silly, but a lot of us don't know how to do that anymore. We don't know how to just pick something out without getting validation from other people or without seeing it on TikTok first.

Crazy, I know, but our individuality is going away because of social media. The thrift store though brings it back, but this is about gifts. So what I'm encouraging you to do and what I've been doing is I have a friend who just moved into an apartment and she's very like girly girl,

Loves the color pink gives off just the most wholesome cutie girl vibes, right? So I go into the thrift store with her in mind, you know thinking about who she is thinking about her apartment thinking about the colors that she likes and I was able to pick out like three different things for her I got the cutest little teapot I got this wonderful little serving plate that you could use on a dining room table and put candles on it or put Random things or knickknacks on it. I spent maybe twelve dollars on all of those things in total and I

Just think that everybody should do that this Christmas. Okay. I've learned it's hard to go in there. If you're thinking of multiple friends at once, it becomes a lot harder to thrift. And I don't know why that is, but it just is. So go in there with each friend in mind and something that I think you could do that would be really cute that I plan to do is, um,

For any of my girls that are into plants, the thrift store usually has tons and tons and tons of different pots or just like things that you could put plants in. So I'm going to be giving all of my friends a pot and I'm going to plant a plant in it for them because I have so many different plants that I'm propagating in my house right now. I'm going to put a plant in it and it's going to be like a pot design, like just for them. You know, I don't know. I think that gifting a plant is something really cool. You're giving them something alive that made you think of them. That's just so beautiful. But

I think what I was actually gonna say is get them a basket at the thrift store, okay? And you don't have to put just thrifted items in it, but why go spend $15 on a basket when you could spend $1 on one at Goodwill, you know what I mean? And fill it with things that make you think of them. Random knickknacks, cute little teapots, maybe a mug that you find. Just be aware when you thrift.

Definitely if you're buying any kind of dish look at it closely make sure there's not remnants of food on it I almost bought these the cutest little oil and vinegar beaker spout things so excited for them I go to open them Bruh, there was literally vinegar in it. It was disgusting So just double check for those things when you go thrifting but yeah, if you have a friend that loves to cook maybe I

buy her something nice that you want to get her from wherever it may be but then Thrift a little cookbook for her and put it in a cute little thrifted basket and maybe you could find little coasters at the thrift store or

Just really think about your friends when you give gifts and I think that it will make the fear of gift-giving go away I have like my boyfriend for example He freaks out when it comes to gift-giving it makes him so stressed and so anxious and he's like I don't know what to get this person or to this person and I know that feeling because I've been in that feeling before and sometimes I still have those moments but

I've learned it's really easy to think about what to give people when you just sit down for 0.5 seconds, you let the noise of what everybody else is buying everybody else go away, and you just think about the person. Think about the person. Is this a person who likes to...

Journal, get them a custom journal. I know that Papier, they have custom leather journals. I got one for Gabe last year and he uses it all the time because when I would pay attention to where he would write, he writes in his like little five-star notebook from high school. So I got him a journal, you know, just like think about people. And then if you're gift giving for people that you don't really know that much,

I think that doing things like giving them a plant is really cute. A plant and a gift card to somewhere that they might like. You know, you should know enough about people that you could figure out what they might like. Okay. If it's a person who drinks a lot of beer, you could thrift them a really cool beer pint or you could buy them a beer pint and then fill it with a cool beer opener you found at the thrift store. Like you can make gifts more intricate inexpensively, you know, give everybody a little kit. I like little kits, little gift giving basket type vibes. Um,

If you are thrifting gifts, I recommend avoiding clothing unless you're really good at thrifting clothes. I have bad luck thrifting clothes. Everything I buy, I never end up wearing except I'm actually wearing a shirt that I thrifted right now. But usually I get thrift blindness and I think I see something that's going to be good. I get home and it's not so great. I did score the most beautiful dress the other day though. You guys will see it all over my Instagram when I post in it. Okay, back to what I was saying.

Definitely thrift, definitely hand make your gifts. A couple like other randomly thoughtful things that I wrote down. Say the person that you're giving a gift to just got a dog or has a dog that they love and you want to give them something for their animal. Most people, the right people will be grateful if you give their dog something instead of them because

if somebody gave me something for leia like that's a gift for me just as much as it is for her you know what i'm saying and i'm gonna do if you guys don't follow me on tick tock and instagram go do so because my goal is to make a couple more gift guides that are very like minimal that just kind of list out some brands that i like to shop from for gifts if i am shopping there's a company called foggy dog that i got last color and the cutest little

Charm tags not charm tags like the name tag comes with little charms that you can get so I have like a Christmas one for her a pink one for her My dog is more spoiled than I am and she adds to consumerism more than I do That's so not true. But anyways, if you have a friend who has a dog, I

make them something like that, you know, make them a little clay paw print and get them a new dog collar with like a cute little charm. Um, if you have somebody who loves to make content or take videos or do things like that, or wants to be an influencer, get them a little octo, even if they already have one, get them an octo buddy in a phone case that makes them, that makes you think of them. You know, I think that things like that are just like really thoughtful. Like the most important thing is to be thoughtful. Um, if there's a girl, you know, that loves the beach and

Get them things that relate to the beach. Maybe get them a little super goop sunscreen that they like, whatever they use on their face. And then along with that, you do wholesome things. Like maybe you could thrift them a cool beach blanket or a cool towel, or maybe you could thrift a cool beach bag. Um, if there's a girl that you know that loves to take photos or, um,

Somebody that you know that loves to shoot film go on Amazon buy them film find out what film they use and get that like those are the kind of things that I as somebody who always has my film camera love to receive as gifts because those are the things I don't want to spend my money on but I need them and

Hey guys, quick little intermission, but it's not an ad. It's just something that is really silly for me not to include. If you don't know what to get your friends and your family, you should purchase the moments journal, a little self ad, I guess you could say, but I designed a guided journal back in 2021 and it just released this past April, but it's a guided journal full of affirmations and prompts that could be for beginners. Or if you've journaled your whole life, literally any kind of person that you are, anybody in your life or

You guys can get it on Amazon. I'll link it in the description, but I put my whole heart into this journal and I hope you guys love it. So yeah, get that for a friend. Anyways, back to what we were talking about. That's another cool way to think about gift giving. Think about yourself.

Even if this is like a person of the opposite sex that is nothing like you. Think about the things that you like to have but you don't want to buy yourself, right? For me, one of those last year was like pots and pans. I really wanted nice pots and pans, but I did not want to spend hundreds of dollars on that for myself. So that's what Santa brought me for Christmas. And it was the best gift ever. And I got a vacuum. And first of all, that's how I knew I was getting old. I was getting old as heck when I got a vacuum and pans and I was freaking out about it. But...

Seriously, those are the things that I need, but I don't want to buy for myself because they're stupid expensive. Oh, actually, I want to tell you this was my favorite gift that I'm giving this year, and I'm so excited about it. I told you earlier that my boyfriend's mom is getting baptized, and she has a cute little pink Bible, but every time we're in church, she's always looking over at my Bible, and it's like, oh my gosh, I love that so much. And I have a Bible that has

I got tabs that I put in it and it has little note-taking space and it's just an awesome Bible that I'm very much obsessed with. It's beautiful. It's pink. It has flowers on it, but...

I wanted to get her that Bible and I didn't just give her the Bible. I got the Bible and I placed all of the tabs in it for her because that usually takes like an hour, which sounds really silly, but who wants to waste an hour? You know, like I wanted to do that for her. And then I also went through and I highlight, I got her a little Bible highlighter kit and a little pencil pouch and a couple of pens. And I just highlighted some verses that I found really special in the Bible. And then I gave her a little key to see which

highlight color means what? And I'm just so excited to give her something like that. And I also had Gabe, my boyfriend, write different prayers on note cards and say, read this or pray this when you're feeling sad, when you need comfort, when you're feeling angry. And I

I just think it's the most cutest little thoughtful incredible thing ever and I'm so so so excited to give it to her. That's just a few random thoughts and things to think about when it comes to this Christmas and this holiday season and

every single time you want to give somebody a gift, but I love you guys. I'm going to post some gift guides that are minimal and I'm going to link all of the stuff that I use for my handmade gifts on my Amazon and just other random stuff on there. And I'll put it all in the description, but yeah, tune in on all the other platforms. And if you want more like specific ideas and you want another episode like this one, I can definitely do it. And let me know ASAP because I could do it next week for you. That way you have time to make everything. Also,

if you guys want a boyfriend gift guide i could do that too because i went crazy for gabe last year for no reason this year keeping it very minimal and like i said thrifted and handmade and thoughtful but if you do want to like know what to actually get your boyfriends i can do an episode like that so i love you guys so very much i will talk to you next wednesday bye
