Here joining me before his long drive. What's up, Nick? What's going on? Did you check? I just was looking at pictures on my phone. Did you guys get to see the Northern Lights down, or I guess they weren't Northern, but the Aurora down where you were? No, okay. All right. I'll just tell you the real story because it's, well, yeah, whatever. We just, it's exactly what happened. So Paige went down,
And which I want to get to later because we ate worse than I think we've ever eaten in our entire lives. But we were having like just this like relaxing night because basically we've had like a couple days off and we just we we realized that Paige and I haven't spent.
It kind of felt like when we first started dating, when we weren't as busy as we are now. And for like three days straight, we just got to like, so, okay. Now this is my ADD and things that I've learned more on Tik TOK about ADD than I ever have in my real life. I don't even know if it was a thing when I was a kid. Let me try to calm my mind. Okay.
And she was here for way more than three days. I just meant there was a three day bender of just eating anything we wanted. And so it was around 1130, probably. I forget what night, but it was the night that the storm started. The electromagnetic storm. If people aren't familiar with it, basically some crazy ass shit's going on with the sun. That's like one of it's.
hemorrhages is like 50 times the size of the earth. Correct me if I'm wrong, Nick. But so this thing pops up on Apple TV and it says live broadcast, like special event, you know, or like it wasn't a special event. It was like, it was special. It was whatever it's called when something emergency like report, but it wasn't. So, oh my gosh, Craig, calm down. So I clicked on it.
And the broadcast that the Scurs were giving, I didn't recognize the anchors and it was late at night, but the way that they were talking, we could not distinguish if it was a movie that we were watching or real life because we
They were talking about this solar storm as if it was common knowledge, like the things that they were saying weren't like, hey, you guys probably have never heard of this. And, you know, at the bottom of the screen, it says like could knock out power grids, have flashlights ready, you know, some like warnings there.
But they weren't explaining it. They were just talking about it like it was happenstance. And I really was like, is this a movie or not? And so I sent it to my group chat because we have my college best friends are in a group called Boys Will Be Boys. And I was like, does anyone know anything about this? Well, all anyone wrote back just because...
I'm all over the, like, I tend to watch, you know, all the news sources and stuff is like kind of making fun of me. I was like, is anyone reading what the caption says in the photo? Because half of our group chat is one side, most are moderates, and then some are the other side. But no one would answer me. And so the next day,
One of our friends, Jim is like, I cannot believe this isn't getting more coverage and like texted it. And my other friends were like, I can't believe we missed that last night. And I was like, I was texting you guys about it, but everyone was just making fun of me thinking I was making shit up. So then the next night,
So I followed it pretty closely and it said that the bands would be visible from Charleston. So the next night at midnight, Paige and I walked till we could find a clear path of the Northern horizon in my community. It felt like we were sneaking out in high school because we were like holding hands, like dodging, like, you know, any lights that turned on and we did not see it. So that's how my story ends is.
Um, I should have driven to the beach and it was kind of a once in a lifetime thing, but I just, I don't feel like it got the coverage that it deserved and I'm not sure why. So that's my story. I read about it, I guess Thursday, no Friday morning. I saw that there was going to be a geo storm or whatever they call it. I was like, Oh, that's cool. Um, went out to dinner with some friends, went home, uh,
I started playing video games with one of my buddies and a couple of them. And the one guy goes, so can you guys see the Aurora Borealis? I was like, oh, I forgot about that. So I went outside. I might have taken something. And I looked up. I was like, why the hell is the sky pink? And then I was like, I don't know if you saw my story, but it was pink. It had the green tinge to it. It was no way. Northern Lights.
Just the whole sky. Yeah, here, I'll send you a picture right now. Yeah, send it to me. Because it was cool. I told my parents, I was like, you guys got to look, but it was cloudy. But they said that their friends that live near the beach, you know, like 10 minutes closer to the ocean, they said it looked like a movie. Like it was just waves of lights like over the ocean. Yeah, I mean...
It didn't last very long or probably last. It was probably like nine 30 to 10 45 that I could really see it. Okay. So you looked up and what was the brightness of this? It was pretty bright. Like I was like, the sky is like pinkish reddish right now. I was like, Oh, that's right. And then I got out from like behind the trees and I really like looked over the mountains and there was like a lot of green and red to it.
Oh my gosh. This is what you saw? Yes. We'll have to upload this to our Instagram page because, I mean, it looks like an AI-generated photo of another planet. No, it was cool. The picture that Nick just sent me has purples, pinks, greens. Is that the moon? That's the moon. So did it almost feel like it wasn't nighttime? Yeah, it was pretty bright.
I mean, I made that picture a little brighter. I kind of did some editing to it, but the first one that's vertical, that's just, yeah, natural photo. It was pretty cool. It's on my bucket list, man. That's what I said. I was like, I can check that one off. I don't have to go to Greenland anymore. Yeah, it's a big one. And I, again, I think it was just, it wasn't covered. And-
So Twitter, it was really big on Twitter. Everybody was posting pictures and talking about it. I remember the eclipse, you know, it was like a mass of- Way cooler than the eclipse to me. Well, yeah, but I know, but it wasn't covered like the eclipse. Yeah, that is very true, which is kind of weird to me that they wouldn't talk about that as much. I guess people didn't really care about the eclipse, so maybe they were like, oh, no one's going to care about this. I mean, seeing that, I think, is 10 times cooler than the eclipse. Agreed.
But I guess the problem also was unlike the eclipse where everybody can pretty much see it. If you're in that like vicinity, if it's cloudy or something, you're just going to disappoint a whole lot of people. I don't know. I wonder what their strategies were not letting people know, but I, well, and then, you know, some of my, you know, some people were like, Oh, classic, like fear mongering. And I was like, but it's not like, they're actually like being very subtle about this to the point where like,
Like that is something that can knock off our electronics. A real solar flare of something like solar storm can screw up electricity. They were worried about it with flights and everything with like a GPS. Yeah. I mean, I was like, maybe they just don't think people can handle it, but what a wild thing for those that saw send us your pictures on Instagram. I would love to, to see it. Um,
I really, I wish I would have made more of an effort, but you know, you just, you don't think you don't, you know, hindsight is 2020, but yeah, I mean, that takes us to my, it's funny because Paige and I are separated enough that we're pretty good at keeping our, our routines of staying like as healthy as we can down. But yeah,
we like, I can see how if you're a couple, you know, that lives together, how you're eating can go downhill quick. Um, Oh no. Because if one person makes cheats a little bit, then you cheat a little bit. And then you're like, well, if we're cheating, we might as well just put a cherry pie in the oven. And, um, you make a pie. Yeah, we made a pie. Um,
We got some stuff like different deliveries. And I mean, it wasn't crazy, but you know, we had a lot of, we started with, you know, vegetables and dip. We eat a lot of, but then it, it went on to our sweet tooth. But I, I would, I told her, I was like, look, if this is the most unhealthy habit we have when we're together, then we're lucky because I think a lot of people, uh,
struggle with maybe alcohol or drugs when they're with their like person that they love. But it's like, it's not good for us to be together, but we love each other for us. It's like, all right, we're eating French onion dip and an ice cream. We order, we got yield fashion delivers ice cream and Charleston. Um, but yeah, we keep those, uh, those, uh, the pre-made pies in the oven. We threw one of those in.
Oh, so you didn't go from scratch, like make a pie at Thanksgiving or something? No, we didn't plan on eating poorly. But, man, was it fun. And we were watching this period piece. It was based off Bridgerton. Oh, that's what I was talking about last time. Did you remember what it was called? It's called Queen Charlotte, I think. Queen Charlotte.
Oh, Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton story. Yes. Great show. But you should watch it after Bridgerton. So we just watched. Well, Paige was rewatching it, but we watched Bridgerton yesterday. And honestly, I was into it way more than I thought I would be. I still can't believe that guy left the show. Who?
the uh who's like the black guy the really good looking guy that all the women were obsessed with he left yeah he went i guess because it was such a hit for him he tried to become uh i think he's done pretty well for himself i'm not saying try but he's a movie he started doing movies and stuff and it was either do the movies or do bridgerton because of scheduling oh man yeah that's a tough uh tough decision um
But it was cool. But we so I should have had Paige jump on here with me, which she will later in the week or next week. But we experienced a glitch in the matrix that neither of us can explain. And it actually freaked us out so bad last night that we had to just not pay attention to it. So we're going to take a quick break and then I'm going to tell you about our glitch in the matrix.

Get your first month free at greenlight.com slash pod greenlight.com slash pod. Welcome back to pillows and beer. I'm Craig Conover joined by with Nick Norris, uh, filling in for Austin Kroll today. My ADD is all over the place. So bear with me, but I'm talking about a glitch in the matrix that page and I both experienced. So we decided to make this cherry pie. However, my healthy, uh,
cheat is Cool Whip. And so I have sugar-free Cool Whip in the fridge at all times. And I'll take like a banana at night and dip it in the Cool Whip and it actually tastes like banana pudding. And it just kind of, it satisfies all my sweet tooth cravings. The main reason that I like to eat pie is the Cool Whip or whipped cream. And I probably wouldn't have been as excited to make this cherry pie if we didn't have Cool Whip.
But the night before I took, I had run out of the sugar-free Cool Whip. So I had regular Cool Whip and I was snacking on it in the kitchen and Paige was like, what are you snacking on? And so I brought it out to her and made her lick it. And so I was like, put your tongue in the Cool Whip. Since it's just the two of us, we can do all the things we weren't allowed to do as kids. So she licked the Cool Whip. It had...
It had like signature indentations into the Cool Whip. It was a half-eaten tin of Cool Whip. So I put it back in the fridge where I always put it. And the next night when I put the cherry pie in the oven, Paige was like, do we still have that Cool Whip? And I was like, yes, because we only ate half of it. Or there was half left. So she comes in. We like, you know, you bake the pie halfway. Then you put the crumble on top, the cobbler-like topping.
We let the cherry pie rest for 45 minutes. We made it this time to like set, which we learned the first time. It's always a little trick. You have to wait like an hour to make the pie and then you have to wait another hour. So it's a little, we know to put it in a little earlier these days. So she opens the fridge and,
to get the cool whip. And it's like, Craig, I thought you said we had cool whip. And I said, we do. It's the cool whip from last night. So I walk over to the fridge and I look and I'm like, this doesn't make any sense. Like I put the cool whip back right there. I didn't eat it. Like I looked around the counter to see if I left it out and like, it wasn't there. It wasn't in the trash, which I wouldn't have thrown it away. Um,
But we both scan the fridge multiple times, then check the freezer. And we're like, well, maybe you just put it in the freezer. No cool whip. So we were like, whatever. I was like sad. I was like, I'm really sorry. Like, I promise. I thought we had cool whip. Like this doesn't make any sense. And Paige is like, it's no big deal. Like we can still eat the pie. So we eat the pie. The next day I get a grocery order delivery and I open the fridge and
And I put a four pack of poppy in a cardboard, like they come in like the box. I was being lazy, so I didn't break it out. And I put it on the top shelf of the fridge where the Cool Whip goes. Then I realized that the night before I must have ordered from like Instacart even more. And I had a bag of loose poppies.
So I start putting the loose poppies up on the fridge and I push the poppy box backwards and the cool whip pops up from behind the box because I put so much pressure on it and slides up the wall. And I'm just like, that wasn't there like that, that, that is the cool. So I,
I, I go in and I get Paige and I go, look, she's under the covers on the couch, under the blanket. I was like, I need you to come look at this. So she trusts me and she gets up and she opens the fridge and she's like, stop. Like that doesn't make any sense. She's like, did you just put that there? And I was like, no. So she grabs the cool whip, opens it up. And it is the cool whip that I had put back there two nights prior.
This only made sense because it was both of us looking in the fridge when it wasn't there and then finding it again. She's actually still freaked out by this. I have no way of explaining it. And I mean, I think you won't. You're not alone there. I guarantee you at least 20% of people, if not more, have done that in the fridge. Like I have looked for something, looked for something, looked for something, gone to the grocery store, got it, got back and was like, oh, there it is.
Yeah. And I, well, I do that all the time and then I just have to blame, I yell at myself. I'm like, you're so stupid, Craig. Like, how did you miss it? It was right there. But because it was both of us, it does not make any sense. And I'm like, I guess there's could be some sort of thing out there when you're looking for something, you overlook it. But I'm telling you that I thought that on Friday and was like, you're probably missing it because you're looking for it.
I don't know, man. And so I think the only answer would be is if it went to another dimension, I guess. Because, I mean, unless someone... Your fridge go to Narnia, Craig. What? Your fridge go to Narnia. I shouldn't have told this without Paige. I just took her to the airport. When she gets on, I know we've talked about the cool bit now. When she gets on, she will tell you that...
It really freaked us out. So I don't know. I don't think someone's living in the house and like went and snuck in and stole our cool whip, but it hadn't been touched inside. And maybe it was just invisible until I pushed the box on it. I just, I don't, I don't have an answer. So I mean, I wonder if anyone else out there has this glitch in the matrix where they're like, there's just no way to explain this.
I think a lot of people have had that because I know I have done that before and other people have looked and said, it's not there. And then go to the store, get it and be like, well, there it is. Like what the hell's going on? Yeah. That's so crazy. So crazy to me. Um, also the other dumb things where I eat cereal late at night and I'll wake up the next day. I've ruined the milk because the milks in with where the cereal goes and the cereals in the fridge. Um,
So, well, yeah. And like, again, I wouldn't have thought twice. Well, I would have thought twice, but the fact that I had someone go through this with me is why it was crazy. Um,

Get started with Greenlight today and get your first month free at greenlight.com slash pod. Welcome back to Pillows and Beers, besties. I will say that I've been using my favorite device that I have in my home a lot because I have a dumpster in my driveway for...
I don't know. I guess our besties know I tend to like just get a dumpster delivered and clean out and do projects. Someone accidentally threw a trash, a real, a food trash bag into the dumpster. Oh, yeah. Raccoons. Yeah. So it got torn open. So we have these, we had this infestation of these stupid like
you know, superhero fruit flies. They're so... And they get in your ear and they buzz and they drive you crazy. And I think they like... I don't know what their deal is.
But they're very hard to catch by hand or swatting them because their exoskeleton is so tough that they actually just fly away a lot of times if you hit them. So I have one of those Zappit tennis rackets, which I believe you can get on Amazon for $9. Yeah. And...
All you have to do is touch this tennis racket to it and it dies. So if you have a fruit fly problem, I'm telling you, this is the best hack that you can have for your house because you just slow, you don't have to hit them hard. That's what you, the harder you swing, the less effective it is. So you actually just tap it. Or like if you have a fruit fly trap in your house and when you grab it, they all fly away. Just hold this thing over it. I would be losing my mind if I didn't have it.
Yeah, that's tough. I hate that when that happens. Do you have a Zap-It like tennis racket? Don't have the Zap-It for the little guys. I got one of those salt guns or whatever. Oh. It's another type of gun, but basically you shoot the swatter at them. It's just like attached to a string and it's kind of like a rubber band gun, but it's got essentially a swatter on it.
um well does that work for flies i mean yeah i got it for my mom because she hates flies obviously but like i don't know like squishing the fly when you swat it is kind of nasty yeah so this just fries them and they just fall uh but so i've been using that a lot and the reason that we have the dumpster honestly i'm telling you get that like
And it doesn't, I like, you can touch your hand to it and it doesn't shock you. At least in my experience, I don't recommend you doing that, but there's some strong ones you can get where if you touch it,
We used to do dumb stuff like, cause we had one in our college house and it would be who can touch their tongue to it and stuff like that. Apparently there's one now where you can plug it into an outlet and the glue trap is behind it. It just looks like a scent plugin and the bugs fly and get stuck to the back of it. And then you just throw it away.
So that one feels bad to me though. At least the zaps it's, it's a one and done or they're not just help me. I don't have empathy for bugs. I just, because I can kill them. No problem. I just feel bad torturing the little bastards. I know, but when they can get to me when I'm sleeping, yeah, I just said, Paige was like, I'm taking off. I love you. And I said, I love you too. Laughing about our cool whip story. And she said, it's scary for real. And I was like, I know, but I need you to come tell it. Um,
So I had a, I recently made the decision to have my house encapsulated. Do you have any experience with that? What do you mean? So my foundation is, it's kind of wild that I didn't, I just, that this wasn't done during my construction process. So recently I saw that my floorboard. Oh yeah. Like where you put plastic up and everything. Yeah. Crawl space. Yeah. Okay. So recently I,
i noticed my floors kind of bending a little bit my hardwood floors that was a moisture and i panicked because usually that's sign that you have a water you know leak somewhere and i was like i cannot go through this again like i would break me if i had to like tear this floor up and so my brother was happened to be down and he's like it's probably from the moisture underneath your home and i was like really and he was like yeah like you should have it encapsulated
And I was like, around here in Charleston, it's just really expensive because it's necessary. And so I called someone to come look and he was like, your moisture rating under your house is like 66%. And he said, and there's mold everywhere.
growing on your choices. And I was like, God, my dad would kill me if I had mold under the house. And also if your house is that wet underneath, like it's not good. And I was basically when I finished my home, I was like, I just want to make sure that all of the money I invested is protected and I never have issues again, at least from water.
that I can protect from so I had this guy come out and he looked and he was like look we do a complete job we'll get the we'll put a humidifier underneath the house we'll put like 20 millimeter plastic and we'll install new doors and basically they turn the bottom of your house the foundation into a pretty protected room yeah right they're just building a room under your house
And the dehumidifier will get any moisture out that's still there. They scrub the choices, they clean it. And it's kind of the last part of my house that wasn't done. But, you know, he quoted me at like 15 grand. I mean, that's pretty normal. Like even up here, that's it's 12 to 20 grand for like a normal sized house. That's wild. Yeah. And, and I, I mean, I don't talk about money on here, but I feel like in this, um,
I just, I had no idea that something that could be necessary for your home could cost that much. And I'm just learning things that if I was ever looking for another home or like a rental property, things to look for, because if you live in a place like Charleston where the humidity is so bad or even up North, I mean, Christopher was like most newer homes, they build it like that. Yeah. But.
Yeah. Or it's and start a business. I mean, these guys are doing it and they're trying to get out of here in one day. Oh yeah. No, the time's money. We just had our septic and I know that's a little gross fixed because you know, house built in the sixties. Yeah. Um, and yeah,
you know, came out, dug it up completely, had to fix some pipes out in four hours. Really? They did one before they got to our house and I haven't seen the bill yet, but I'm sure that's going to be like five grand because they brought it. And that's just, it's probably $200, $300 that it cost them to do. And materials, nothing really. 50 bucks.
No, I mean, to their credit, I used to have to do, so they went under the house and removed all the wet insulation, which I'm kind of mad that my contractor who did the original flood didn't do that. But I used to have to do that in my dad's company. We would put on the suits and crawl under the house and you'd take a trash bag with you and pack up all the wet insulation from the water damages I would go to.
Um, you know, but according to a certain show I was on, I don't know how to clean. That couldn't, that couldn't have been manipulated more. I was like, I grew up, my dad owned a cleaning company, like, and we were got the suits. My dad would just yell at me and just, I'd have to go into there and pretty much, you know, t-shirt and shorts. Well, yeah, we got the suits later as kids, like the plastic thin ones, but, um, yeah,
So they went under, removed the wet insulation and then put new insulation up. So they, you know, it's, but I was like, well, what happens if a storm comes and they're like, we'll come back and redo it, but it should hold up. So, um,
Yeah, it just brought back memories. I was telling Paige about it. I was like, yeah, when I was little, I would be the one that went under the houses and packed up the trash bags. I've been under there enough and just digging footings for adding beams and stuff. My dad laughing at me because I was the only one that could fit in there. Yeah, I never had to do that.
Oh my God, the worst. At a beach house, not a beach house, but a house near the beach in Beaufort, North Carolina. And one of my families were redoing their kitchen and I had to dig four footings and about, you know, two feet. I'm living there with pretty much just like a beach shovel because it's all I could reach to dig up. Thank God it was sand, essentially. Yeah, we didn't add the construction side to the business until I was in college. But yeah, I mean...
It's being able to build stuff yourself would be, would be cool. I've got, well, you just went to Nashville, Shep and I, uh, which I was telling you guys about, but they had seen this podcast room. This is like an, a frame roof above the garage. And so there's actually like a full room behind this wall, but it's not finished. I mean, it's insulated, but it's not finished yet.
And this recording studio that we went to had like turned that into a smoking room. And so you went in and there was like a couch and like a TV and stuff. And I was like, I mean, that's cool. I'm not going to have it like an opium den in my. See, I don't know if I'd like that for smoking weed or anything like that, because I feel I get too confined. Right. I'd start getting paranoid. I just I feel like we could have done a drop down like that.
Yeah. Or yeah. Or just put in a, Oh, why is it? What's it called when there's like the built out into the, it's like a window and everything. Oh yeah. Well, that's messing with your roof. As soon as you mess with your roof, that starts to cost money. Yes. You are adding, it's good to do when you're getting your roof redone. But it was good. I mean, we had a nice, we had a nice week here and, um,
Happy Mother's Day to everyone out there. We had an event at the store. Thank you to my mom and Paige's mom for lending us to Charleston.
