Hello guys and officially welcome back to the Claim Your Power podcast. I am excited for today's episode because I have the beautiful Vera V on with me, my amazing guest. So Vera, welcome to the podcast. Thank you. So excited to be here. So I wanted to ask you and start off by just asking you to tell us about yourself. How did you start your social media and personal journey?

Yeah, for sure. So I'm a content creator. I'm also a social media coach and a life coach, technically. So a lot of coaching happening. But with social media specifically, I've been creating content since I was like 11. So I started a while back, but I really started picking up, I would say, in April 2021.

When I started opening up more about my lifestyle as it relates to self-improvement and self-growth and discipline, to me, those are very natural things after I started my self-improvement journey. But then I realized that sharing that can inspire a lot of people in the process. And it's been honestly, honestly, just one of the best things probably ever in the world, just building the community that we've built, Gen V. Thank you. Wait, so your community is called Gen V?

Yeah, I didn't come up with that. Somebody did because I kept saying like Gen Z because I mean, primarily it is Gen Z, right? Falls under those ages. And then somebody said, oh, Gen V because I just stuck with it ever since. Oh, my God. I love that. So I know that you coined something called the grindest mindset, right? So it's grind set or grindest?

No, grind set, like grind set mindset. I've been saying it wrong. Sorry, guys. So the grind set mindset, can you tell me a little bit about what that is? For sure. So it's just honestly a silly term I made up when I'm like,

beast mode, like very productive, you know, getting everything done, really working towards my goals. But I think mindset, to me at least, what that is, is just knowing what your goals are. First of all, like having that clarity and then not really stopping for anything, like in the way to get to them. Obviously, I think doing it in a holistic way, toxic productivity is not it. I've never done that. Right. Go back. But like healthy, holistic, productive way, but just moving towards your goals and not being afraid of

I don't know, not holding yourself back, essentially, just laser sharp focus. Right. I think it's so important. It's something I talk about a lot on my podcast about how once you have goals and you want to call something into your life, it's not just about like,

manifesting and writing everything down on a journal, like, obviously, that sets the intention up. And that's really important for you to realize what you want in your life. But you have to take inspired action, being kind of laser focused on what you want in your life and not letting anything else get in the way of that is just so important. So I really agree with you. Yeah. And I think a big part of that, too, is I like what you mentioned about setting the intention for it.

Because I think it can seem, if you set yourself a very lofty goal, it can seem like if you're coming from more of a toxic, productive perspective,

headspace that it takes a lot to get there and truly it does but I think once you have your intention set and your goal is clear it doesn't actually take that much action like it's like I don't know how to explain it exactly but I think it's just a lot more focused work versus just like doing everything at once trying to balance like a billion different things you know like it's flow it's just yeah flow yes exactly yeah

Actually, that reminded me. I was listening to this random Instagram story. I don't remember his name, but I'm going to check in. If somebody is interested in following this guy, just message me on Instagram. I'll find out for you guys. But he was basically like...

some on some Instagram account, he was saying how there's a really big difference between a dream and a target. Because when you say like, you have a dream for something like, oh, I dream of building a social media platform, or I dream of being an actress, or I dream of starting my own company, that like sets a really big gap between you, where you are now and where you want to be. And he was basically talking about how you should just set

targets for yourself because there's so much more commitment from yourself. Like when you tell yourself, oh, I'm going to be a social media creator. I'm going to be an actress. It's like your subconscious mind is already on the road to be that way because you set it as a target and it's more achievable that way.

I think that's a very big part of successful goal setting because I've hosted a bunch of like productivity goal setting workshops. I really like that. I guess it falls into life coaching, I would say, like person development coaching. And a lot of people when they come in with a goal, they're like, oh, I want to earn a million dollars, which is great. That's amazing. And I mean, everybody's absolutely capable of everything they desire. But that's not a target, like you said, because a goal has to follow like the SMART principle, I would say, and also additionally how it ties into your life long term. Wait, what principle?

the smart, specific, measurable, actionable, or attainable, relevant, and time-bound. Can you talk about that?

Yeah, for sure. I love that. I personally applied to all my goals that I set in my life. But specific, for example, instead of like, oh, I want to get fit. It's how are you going to know that you're fit specifically? Can you run a mile under six minutes or like what is your goal specifically? That's for the S. And then for measurable also ties in how are you going to measure that goal versus like, oh, I just want to blow up on social media. Like, what will that be for you? Is it a thousand followers, ten thousand followers, a million followers?

And then attainable has to be, like if you set a goal, oh, I want to, I don't know, become a CEO of a Fortune 500 company by tomorrow. That's not entirely achievable, like taking all life circumstances into consideration. But maybe if you just set it more long-term, then it will be. And then for reasonable,

They're kind of similar, I would say. So same thing. But then for time bound, I think that's the thing that most people miss when they set goals is not having a specific like due date almost. I don't want to say deadline because that's like, I forget that's a limiting term, but kind of a date where, you know, you check in with yourself and just see, okay, am I where I'm at, where I want to be or do I need to push that back or what's happening there? Yeah.

I think that's such a good way to look at goals because I think that really sets a good foundation for you for success. Because I think sometimes that reminds me, I did a whole like podcast episode on atomic habits, like how to build productive habits and break bad ones. By the way, if anyone wants to listen and learn more, you guys can just listen to that episode. But it was so interesting. Like they were talking about,

how to build goals and like build positive habits. Like you have to make it really easy for yourself and it has to just be like step-by-step work. Like let's say you want to start waking up early to start going to the gym. Like the night before you go to sleep, you make it a habit that you're going to have your outfit ready, your socks ready, your water bottle ready, your protein bar ready, like everything is ready. And so it makes it super easy for you to follow through because you just have to like grab everything and get out the door.

Yeah, I really like that. I think I was listening to a podcast by I think Jay Shetty and he

I think somebody else, but I was talking about distractions basically and how to eliminate them and just be more focused. And I think it's a similar concept of if you want to eliminate distractions, instead of focusing on the elimination part, focus on how to make your task more attractive. So same with waking up early. How do you make it as easy for yourself as humanly possible? So like there's no way that you don't do it. Right. Well, I saw on your Instagram story that you wake up at 5 a.m. Girl, good for you. So maybe you can give me some sleep.

I wish on my life that I could be a 5 a.m. person. I have tried to be in a 5 a.m. club, and I feel so good when I do wake up between 5 to 6 a.m., but I can't. I don't know. It's so hard for me and for my body. I love my sleep.

But maybe you have some tips for me and for anyone listening who wants to even just start waking up earlier. Like maybe it doesn't have to be 5 a.m. It could be 630 a.m. But what are some tips to make that more attractive for people, including myself?

For sure. That's a good question. I think with sleep, I definitely recommend doing a lot of research on sleep as well. Like I like the book, Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker, because I feel like it explains a lot of stuff, like how sleep actually works. Because the biggest thing with waking up early, I think it's a great thing. It's a wonderful thing. But the most important thing, as was with any goal, knowing what you want to do it for, right? Because if you have a goal that's not really backed by anything, then you're not really wanting to do it as much, which makes sense. So you don't follow through with it. So first of all, I would say,

knowing what you're doing it for. And then secondly is taking like setting a specific goal when you want to start working out that early, but looking at it realistically, because from the research I've done on sleep, that's one of my favorite topics, honestly, you can only shift your wake up time like by an hour, just so it's like sustainable. I would recommend personally even less, like maybe 45 minutes each day earlier, but then also you have to be going to sleep by 45 minutes earlier to maintain that.

So like you start baby steps. So like, let's say on average, I'll wake up at 730 and I want to start waking at five. So I need to go to sleep 45 minutes earlier and set my alarm clock for 645 tomorrow instead of just 5am right away. You mean? Yeah, of course. Because if you just do it, if it's zero to a hundred, I think that's the biggest thing. It's like, if you've ever been on the side of like self-improvement, TikTok, Instagram, whatever social platform, a lot of it's like, okay, like I'm done.

time to un-eff my legs, time to wake up at 5 a.m. the next day. And that's great. That may work for maybe a week if you have like a lot of willpower, but it's not sustainable. And I think the goal of anything wellness related is to make it sustainable. So that's definitely baby steps. It helps also if you're shifting it by say 45 minutes each day. So going to sleep 45 minutes earlier, waking up 45 minutes earlier, then just to really make sure that you give that day your all and you're really tired by the end of it.

Because that's also going to make it easier for you. Like tire yourself out so that when you get into bed, you just like want to sleep like a baby. Yeah. Not in a crazy way. Yeah. Not like I'm running a marathon today. But just to make sure that you're ready for bed, ready for sleep, ready to recharge and wake up earlier the next day.

No, that's how my sister is. My older sister, she wakes up at 5 a.m. She goes to hot yoga. She goes on a walk all the time. But she tires herself out. She like does stuff throughout the day. Like she'll go on walks or something like when she has her free time, she'll play volleyball. So then by the time she's like going to bed at like eight thirty nine, she's like, oh, she's she falls asleep like within 15 minutes. So I think that's really good tip. Like.

for anyone who wants to start waking up earlier, it's making it sustainable. And I really agree with what you said about how wellness is all about making everything sustainable. And that applies to like everything, like even when you want to change your diet or when you want to start meditating or working out more, it's like, you're not going to like go from never moving your body to suddenly like deadlifting heavy weights the next day.

Or like a mistake that I made, for instance, a couple years ago is like, I went from like a carnivore diet to like, being vegan, like I just woke up one day and I was like, I'm vegan. And I literally just cut out all sources of basically protein, magnesium, zinc, iron out of my life within like a day. And that ended up causing so many health problems and so many issues in my body. And then it wasn't even sustainable because I couldn't even be vegan.

And it took me like so long to relapse after that and heal my body. And now I'm not even vegan. So it doesn't matter. But well, the story is guys don't, it's okay to have baby steps, like, right? Like you don't need to rush everything because sometimes the person who rushes the most is the person who gets held back the most and arrives the latest in a way.

Yeah, yeah. It's like the anecdote of, what is it, the rabbit and the turtle or something? Or is that a Russian thing? I don't know. Well, do you want to share? Yeah, I think maybe just a Russian anecdote. I don't know. So I'm originally from Russia. I heard that a lot growing up.

All the anecdotes. So if I have like references, I don't know where they come from. But it's basically like there's a rabbit, I think, and a turtle. And they're going against each other in a race. And the rabbit's like all over the place, just going everywhere so fast. Just 10x speed, whatever. But then the rabbit tires...

himself out but the turtle's just been going the whole time started off way slower but then finished the race first because slow and steady wins the race that's something i tell myself all the time wow i love that slow and steady wins the race that's so powerful wow i wanted to ask you what you think is the importance of discipline playing a role in this because obviously like sustaining everything and going slow and taking baby steps is important but i also think

you're not always going to be 100% motivated. So where does discipline come into this product of going after your goals and really achieving what you want in life?

Feel your max with Brooks running and the all new ghost max too. They're the shoes you deserve designed to streamline your stride and help protect your body. Treat yourself to feel good landings on an ultra high stack of super comfy nitrogen infused cushion that takes the edge off every step every day. The Brooks ghost max too. You know, technically they're a form of self care Brooks. Let's run there. Head to brooksrunning.com to learn more.

That's a great question. I think discipline essentially is just responsibility that you have for yourself to reach your goals. Because how I like to think of this is I feel like

Oftentimes we tell ourselves we'll do a certain thing, but we just end up not following through. But then how I like to look at it is if instead of you, it was, for example, your best friend or just like a person you knew, they told you that they would do something for you, but they just ended up not doing it. What does that cause? Like lack of trust in that person, right? Just naturally, because it's like a lie. The same thing for yourself. I think that's where a lot of confidence also comes in because confidence is not a feeling, it's an action, right? So it has to be backed by actions.

So with discipline, I feel like

There are two different sides to it because sometimes people are burnt out naturally and that's fine. I think it's very important to take it easy in that case. But when you're lazy, how I differentiate it too is when you're lazy and you do something, you feel better after doing it. Like, I'm so glad I got up from the couch when I was scrolling on TikTok. But when you're burnt out, it's like a different story. So with the laziness, when you feel sluggish or whatnot, and you know that you have goals that you want to achieve,

you just get up and you just do it because that's a promise you made to yourself. And if it were another person making that promise to you, you'd want them to keep it, right? So why don't you keep it for yourself as well? I think a lot of the time I see with people, it's a lack of trust for themselves and that manifests in like so many ways. So that also manifests with people with like anxious attachment style or avoidant attachment style or just people who

who feel like a victim mentality a lot of places in their life. But that a lot of the time stems from a lack of trust within yourself. And so I really think it's interesting that you mentioned that, you know, if you were a consistent good friend to other people, you got to be that friend to yourself first, you got to have trust for yourself first, and like, stop breaking your own promises.

And I wrote down that you said confidence is not a feeling, it's an action. So can you talk more about that? Because I felt like that was really powerful. I think with confidence, it's something that can genuinely be practiced. Same with discipline, same with anything. I think honestly, wellness, self-improvement related. Both confidence, I think,

A lot of the times we just think that we're either confident or not. Like, oh, I'm just not a confident person. Or, oh, I am a confident person. But if you really think about what makes you versus what does not make you confident, it is the actions behind it.

If you tell yourself you'll do stuff, but you just never end up doing it, of course, you're not going to be a confident person. And like you said, that manifests in a lot of different ways and in relationships with people as well, like friendships or whatever that may be. But if you tell yourself you'll do certain things and you end up doing it, then you have a lot more confidence in yourself because it's like you can trust yourself. You know that you're not going to flake out last minute. You're like a trustworthy person to yourself, which is so interesting to think about. It's like a relationship with yourself, you know?

Right. Everything is a reflection of the relationship with yourself at the end of the day. So it's so interesting. So do you have any small tips for people if they want to start building trust with themselves and they lack it in their life? Like what are some small baby steps they can start doing for building that trust? Yeah, I think that's a great question. I think just

First of all, knowing what you're going to do today, just like to start out. So say, for example, you want to walk, like go on a hot girl walk for three miles. So you did tell yourself, okay, today I'm going to go on a hot girl walk for three miles. And then you actually do it. And then after you do it, this is the most important part. You actually celebrate the result. Because, sorry, I feel like a lot of times when we feel like we're not really doing much, like we're not doing enough, it's because we don't celebrate the result afterwards. We're not consciously like, okay, here's what I did.

pat myself on the back for this we're just kind of going with our day

And you have to add significance to it because that's the only way that it's really going to stick. And you're really going to feel like, okay, wow, I told myself I would do something. Just one tiny thing. Maybe it's eating breakfast. Maybe it's, I don't know, drinking enough water, like a specific amount, say a gallon or two to their own. But then afterwards, after you do it, you actually tell yourself, okay, that was amazing. Maybe treat yourself to something. I don't know. But just really make sure that that what you did is significant. And in your mind, it's significant. Wow, I love that. Like start celebrating yourself more often just for the smallest wins. Yeah.

I think in society, we're so conditioned to think that like, we always have to be chasing and running after the next goal and da da da. And it's okay to just be present where you are now and appreciate where you are. And instead of trying to chase where you're supposed to be just celebrate how far you've come to. I think that's such a

powerful piece of advice so for anyone listening start celebrating your small wins like if you wake up 10 minutes earlier and you meditated that day celebrate yourself like you're worthy of celebrating yourself just as you would celebrate anyone else in your life I agree with that because there's also there's this one book the power of now have you ever read it yeah it's so good yeah and

And so the author in it, he was saying how he had a time period where he was just sitting on the bench for, I think, like weeks or days, just like laughing, smiling, just so happy and at peace with himself. And that's truly when we're happiness, where we're truly present in the moment. And I think, like you said, we are conditioned to just chase after the next thing. But if you keep chasing and you don't realize that what you've done so far is very significant and you don't celebrate yourself for it, because you're

you don't feel worthy or for whatever reason, then you're just going to keep chasing away. And the people who are truly present in the moment, they're the ones who feel just more at peace with themselves. Yeah, wow. And that I think your piece of advice can be applied to everything in life, not just career goals. For instance, relationships too.

You know, people always say, and I always say this to my listeners, that once you feel whole and complete with yourself, you attract the partner, you attract the aligned friends. But you have to do the inner work and you have to feel whole from within before the outside physical thing comes to fruition in your life. And that applies to basically everything that you want. You have to

Be whole on your own. And then you attract everything from a place of wholeness, not from a place of black, which is so important. Yeah, that's so wise. I like that a lot. So I want to shift the conversation and talk a bit about social media, because this is something that a lot of my listeners love. I know you guys always ask me, I've made some episodes about like content creation, things like that. People eat that up.

And I know that you're a social media coach. And so let's talk a little bit about it. I want you to share your wisdom with my audience. So what is your piece of advice to somebody who's passionate about content creation and is starting from scratch? I think with this one, it's so amazing because honestly, social media is one of my favorite topics, I think, literally in life. Right. We've been talking about it for ages. But I think with a person who's starting from scratch and

They just, I think it's a very, it's a thing we're celebrating, honestly, I think to share. And like, if you have the inner urge and inner desire to share, because a lot of people are very afraid of that. And I think like you said, it comes from a piece of wholeness, right? So if you feel whole in yourself, then you're ready to share that with the world. Even if you're like a work in progress, because I mean, we all are. But point is, I think if you have that desire in the first place, I think it's an amazing thing. Worth a round of applause for sure. And the next thing is honestly to just share. Because I think,

it's very easy to get in a sort of mindset where okay well before I start doing this like seriously I have to figure out figure all this out so all my goals and then do this and then get this camera or figure out what I want to post about but truly you just start like whatever idea you have just do it because that's how I like to think of it like social media it's it's a very

It's like a fast paced environment. So as soon as you have an idea for something, you just execute it, just like do it. And then you can do the next one and you can do the next one. And that way you'll figure out, first of all, what you want to share about specifically, if you don't already know that. Secondly, and most importantly, what you like doing, like what, how do you see yourself in that social media space? Cause truly it's like another world, you know, just crazy to think about, like, I don't know, evolved over the past 30 years or so. And yeah, just staying authentic to yourself, to what you want to share about. And yeah,

Eventually you end up attracting the kind of audience that also resonates with that.

Right. I agree. And I think I have two points to add to what you said. The first thing is I noticed a lot of people struggle with the overthinking of, okay, they make all these drafts and then they just never post them. And I found that with social media, perfectionism doesn't help you at all. It's authenticity, just like you said. And so for anyone who needs to hear this, just post, just fucking post, even if you're not sure if it's your authentic content, just

just post it, be authentic to yourself, because that's really what attracts the right audience. And the second thing that I wanted to add to what you said is realize that social media, like any other thing is a journey. So it's less about the destination, and more about the journey itself. And I think the biggest thing that I want to like share with everyone is that

When you genuinely want to build a platform, it's not about the numbers. It's about the community. It's about the people who follow you. Because at the end of the day, the followers, they're people just like you and me. They're people with a life, with a soul, with a heart. And you want those people to be aligned with who you are. You don't want it to be like,

these you know creepy middle-aged men that are just following you god knows what like you want it to be people who are aligned with you and so it's okay if it takes some time for you to build the audience because you're attracting massive amounts of people that you want them to be aligned with you so it's natural for it to take a little bit of time to build a long-lasting community so it's really like again what you said slow and steady gets there the fastest it's just about

staying consistent and knowing what you want and then attracting that as you go. Yeah. Cause I think with me, with a lot of clients that I work with, I think they have very big expectations right off the bat, which is a great thing to be ambitious.

But then it's like, oh, you know, this reel got 100 views. And it's like the first one they posted or this TikTok has like 50 views. But if you imagine 150 people in a room, that's a lot of people. Right. Because like you said, it's people. It's not a number. It's people. Like I can't fit all those people in my room. Kind of a lot, you know? So just picture all those people. Yeah. Picture all those people just watching your video and like actually paying attention to it. That's a very powerful thing. Same with followers. 25 people.

that don't know you previously, that's a lot. Like that's a lot, a lot.

And honestly, something that really helped me in the beginning when I was growing my own community is I would just bless and be so grateful for every single follower that I would get. Because I think once you get to certain numbers in social media, you kind of desensitize yourself and you just see them as a number and you forget that they're actual people. And I think it's so important as you're growing, even now, even if you have over...

hundreds of thousands of followers is like every single time you see a notification and you see somebody new followed you and you see a name and a profile picture, just be like, wow, I bless you. Like, just think that in your head. Like, I bless you. I'm so happy you're here and following me and supporting my journey because that's so valuable. Like not every single person needs to click the follow button. Not every single person does. And if somebody goes out of their way, like I'm not talking about like the marketing strategies of like how to get someone to click the follow button. Like

We can do a whole podcast episode on that. If you guys really like this one, me and Vera can do a part two just social media. But like just the fact that someone's following you, like what a blessing. I agree with that. And definitely I would recommend for anybody who wants to go their social media, reading the book Tribes by Seth Godin. Have you heard of it? Tribes?

- Tribes, yeah. It's all about, it's not about social media specifically, but it's more about how to build your tribe or like your community and the way to make it bigger. 'Cause I mean, anybody who wants to go on social media, it's like your community, right? You wanna grow bigger, is to make it stronger. So I think a very big part of social media

and besides blessing people and like just feeling all the love and all the gratitude for them coming on your page and clicking follow or just being there with you I think also strengthen your community and that's by getting to know your people like for me I know people who follow me from the very beginning like who remember stuff I don't even remember and I know those people like I know what's happening in their lives what's been happening what progress they made because we talk all the time and I think that's truly the way because it's an

I don't know. I think social media, it's a two-way street, you know? It's not just like, oh, I put out content. Like, you guys can look at it. If you like it, like it. If you don't, don't. Right. But it's like that person watches your video and then you can also give back by just getting to know them as people. It's such a cool thing. It really, like, expands your horizons a lot. Right. You have to put the ego aside when it comes to social media. Paradigm of, like, putting people on pedestals. Like, as a content creator, it's not my job

or anyone else's job, in my opinion, to put me on a pedestal. Like the only thing we're doing is we're learning as we go. We're sharing our experiences. And I think that's what makes people value you more is when you, I so agree with that. When you develop a relationship with them, like answer DMs. If somebody writes you a paragraph

telling you how much you've impacted their life, answer them, like get to know them because that's so valuable, not only for them, but for you to like, to genuinely know the impact you've made on somebody else's life. And instead of it being like just a like or a comment or a share, it's someone genuinely telling you about a message and about how you've personally impacted them. Like that's so, so amazing. Yeah.

And so I so agree with that about strengthening your community and just continuing to pour into people. And that's at least for instance, for me, that's something that's been reiterated to me right now with like the state of the world and everything that's happening right now.

around us, I've just realized how more important it is for me to show up in my community online and offer resources or more love or more support because that's truly what it is. Like we're all just one big community. And like right now me and Vera are like combining our community and like that's beautiful. So to ask you one last question, I wanted to know if you could give a younger version of yourself a

a piece of advice at the start of your journey, what would it be? That's a really good question. I've been honestly, I don't know, I feel like we're very in sync with this because me myself, like it's kind of crazy, but I've been reflecting a lot about like the younger version of myself and what I would tell that past me. The biggest piece of advice would honestly just be that you don't have to do everything at once.

like you have time and I think it's like a silly thing to say when you're right I don't know in your 20s because it's like you if you look at older people and you talk to them they think you're a kid because like you got your whole life ahead of you but I feel like

I don't know. When I was younger, I definitely thought it was like, okay, time's ending. We have to do everything now. I have to become successful now. I have to do everything. But just to realize that you have time and anything and everything you do is a journey. And chances are, it's going to take a lot longer than you thought, but that's because it is a journey. So if you enjoy every step of the way in that journey, you'll just feel so much happier overall and you'll achieve a greater result. Something I really believe is

we reach certain goals or we meet certain people or we have certain accomplishments when we're truly ready for them. And that's something that I live by is that the universe or God or source or whatever you resonate with, it never says no. It's only yes, not yet, or I have something better. And so it's really, I love that. Like

Life is just about enjoying the journey and embracing it. And I know that while I went to Sedona a couple weeks ago,

And I went to this different like peace parks and these meditation parks and I met with Native American tribes and just learned a lot about the culture and the history of that land in Sedona and something that a lot of those people in their tribes, their way of life changed.

was about, they just believe that you live life for the sake of living so that you exist just as nature exists to breathe, to feel, to love. And it's not about like accomplishing everything and running, running, running. It's just about being, and that's how they live their life. And I think that that's just,

such a beautiful way to look at it. And then that way, if you go from that place, from that mindset, and you look at all your goals, all the things you want to accomplish as just things that add on to your life, add on to your being to make you happier in each every moment, I feel like that's also very powerful. So I wanted to thank you so much for coming on the podcast. You're amazing. And I feel like I learned so much from you and from your wisdom and
