Hello, and thank you so much for your interest. You are listening to the introductory episode for a brand new history podcast called Conflicted. My name is Zach Cornwell, and I'll be your host throughout each scripted episode of this show. So obviously this initial intro episode is a little like eating our vegetables before we can get to the good stuff, but I wanted to give new listeners an idea of what to expect and lay down a general mission statement to keep myself honest as we move forward.
So as I've said, this podcast is called Conflicted, and it is all about history. The show won't be bound by any time period, subject, or geographic area. We'll be covering a wide range of diverse, fascinating topics. But the general thread that ties these different stories together is that they involve people, places, and movements that draw out conflicting feelings within us.
Each episode examines a conflict, war, or political struggle that provokes complex emotions, messy moralities, and challenges our assumptions about the past. My hope is that you'll end each episode entertained, enlightened, and a little unsure of how to feel. Now, you're probably saying, "That all sounds great, but who the hell are you?" Well, as I said, my name is Zach Cornwell. I'm a writer currently living and working in Dallas, Texas.
Full disclosure, I am not a historian. I hold no doctorates. I'm not a professor or a teacher. I'm just a fan of history, making stuff for other fans of history. Or for people who just enjoy an entertaining story on the way to work. So there is no right or wrong order in which to listen to these first five episodes that comprise season one of the show. If you see a topic that piques your interest, just jump right in.
You do not need to listen to them in order or really know much about the subject at all. I've tried to include a fair amount of context in each of them so that even if it's something you know literally nothing about, you can easily follow the general trajectory of the narrative. And if you want to know where I'm getting my information, quotes, and anecdotes, all of my sources are listed in the notes of each episode. And before I let you go, please remember to subscribe, rate, and review.
Feedback is welcome. Critique is encouraged. We can all learn and grow and get better together. But enough of the housekeeping. Thank you so much for your interest, and I hope you enjoy the first season of Conflicted. Thank you for listening.
