Hello, friends, and welcome to Bedtime Stories with Mr. Jim. I was just getting ready for bed. Are you as well? Oh, good. I hope you brushed your teeth and found all of your comfy things like pillows and blankets and stuffies. Oh, yes. Oh, good. Well, as long as you have all those things ready...
Then it's time for our story. But first we must close our eyes so that we can travel to an imaginary world. Fizbop the monster lived in Declan's dreams. They played together every night when Declan fell asleep. Sometimes he was big, so big that Declan would ride on his back.
as Fizbo swam through the ocean escaping Krakens. Other times, Fizbop was small. So small he rode around in Declan's pocket, helping him remember the words as he performed songs for knights and dragons. Some nights, he was green, blending into the leaves on a secret mission with chameleons.
Other times, he was pink with rainbow polka dots, teaching Declan's school how to do the Fizzbop bop, his special monster dance. But no matter his size or color, Fizzbop was always fuzzy and friendly. One night, Declan was having trouble falling asleep. He tossed and turned, trying his hardest to get comfy.
But he just could not find his dreams. Fizzbop was waiting for Declan to show up. "Where is Declan?" he wondered. He twiddled his thumbs. He stretched. He waited some more. Fizzbop wondered if he somehow missed him. Did Declan enter a different dream? Is he lost? "I will go look for him," decided Fizzbop.
He walked over to a tree and tugged on a nod in the bark. The bark pulled open, opening like a door. "'Decklin!' Fizbop called as he stepped inside. He was greeted with a soft light of early morning. Dancing around among a field of butterflies was a little person. Fizbop decided to fit in and sprouted colorful wings so he could fly among the butterflies."
He fluttered over, landed on the kid's shoulder. "'Decklin?' he said. The young girl jumped in surprise at the small-winged monster on her shoulder. "'Oh no, my name's Macy. What are you doing in my dream?' "'This is a dream about butterflies.' Fizbop began to fly away, but bumped into a butterfly whizzing past.
The butterfly became fuzzy and sprouted monster hands and feet, just like Fizzbop. In its surprise, the butterfly then bounced into another who bounced into another. Until the little girl's dream was no longer about a butterfly field. Now it was a field of fuzzy flying monsters. Oops!
"'Sorry,' apologized Fizbop as he fluttered away quickly. The winged monster landed beside a lake. It was still, without a single ripple in its dark blue surface. He looked through and could see another child playing in outer space. They were too far away for Fizbop to see them fully. Maybe this was the dream Declan was in?'
Fizbop jumped into the lake without a single splash. He landed on the rings of Saturn, where polar bears were ice skating along. So Fizbop strapped on his skates and followed the polar bears around the icy rings. The little person was twirling up ahead, skating in and out of the polar bears. Duckling, Fizbop called out.
He turned white to blend in with the polar bears, but he still looked like a big, fuzzy monster. As he skated closer, he didn't notice the small ice clump in his path. Toppling over it, he skidded into the polar bears like a bowling ball into pins. At once, they became fuzzier and larger. Some sprouted purple polka dots. Others grew antennas.
The little boy turned and saw the pile of polar bear monsters. "Cool!" he said. But Fizzbop sighed and was sad. That was not Declan. A shooting star was zipping by and Fizzbop jumped on top of it. The star whizzed through space until Fizzbop jumped off, landing on grass made of sprinkles.
He looked around and found himself surrounded by marshmallow cows. Declan loved dessert. Could this be his dream? Fizbop plucked the petals of the gumdrop flowers, snacking as he made his way to the gingerbread barn. Inside, he heard the sounds of more marshmallow animals and a little voice talking to them. Declan, Fizbop called into the barn.
The little person whose voice he had heard walked over to him. "'No, I'm Wes,' said the little boy. Fizbop sighed. "'Where was Declan?' He spotted a green tractor made of lollipops and opened the door. Stepping through a quiet bedroom, Fizbop looked around at the baskets of toys and neat rows of books on the shelf.
There were no skating bears or dessert animals, just a cozy room with a bed and a little person lying in it. "Decklin?" the fuzzy monster tried once more. "Fizzbob?" Decklin sat up and smiled at his dream monster. Fizzbot was so relieved to have finally found him. "I've been looking everywhere for you." Decklin was surprised to realize he had actually been asleep.
He hopped out of bed and hugged Fizzbob, who remained big, fuzzy, and blue. He was grateful for such a calm and simple dream after his adventurous search for his pal. Together, the two dream friends sat on the floor and played with Declan's train set until the sun rose. Then it was time for Declan to wake up. Well, my friends...
As we all get ready to go to sleep and we close our eyes, may you all have very sweet dreams. Good night, my friends.
