Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati has set up a temporary music studio for singer Zubeen Garg so that he can complete his pending work and compose music. A few days ago, Garg suddenly fell sick during a programme at Guwahati Town Club. Garg fell unconscious suddenly during an interaction with the media. After collapsing during the event Garg was admitted to Nemcare Hospital.
Some sporadic incidents of violence were reported from Meghalaya. Two people were assaulted and one man was stabbed by assailants. A truck was also set on fire. The people assaulted were construction workers who were attacked by some unidentified people in Lawsohtun. The man who was stabbed worked as a house painter. A CCTV footage shows some people dragging him. The man admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital is recovering.
First confirmed COVID-19 case in Bhutan has been reported. The patient is a 76-year-old from the United States of America, who had come to Bhutan as a tourist. He had entered the country from Paro International Airport, after embarking Drukair flight KB241 from Guwahati, India on March 2, according to Prime Minister’s Office – PMO, Bhutan’s FB page. According to the post, the patient was touring India from February 21 to March 1. He had started his travel from Washington DC on February 18.
After seven MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha for creating ruckus inside, Gaurav Gogoi of Congress, who was one of the MPs suspended, sent out a tweet in which he said Suspend me, but please discuss Delhi riots. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday suspended Gaurav Gogoi and six other Congress MPs for the rest of the Budget session for creating ruckus in the House and snatching papers from the Speaker’s table.
Sachin Aji Bhaskar, a 23-year-old student from India, who was on a student visa in the US has pleaded guilty to charges of sexually tempting an 11-year-old minor girl. Bhaskar sent out text and email to the girl for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity. The charges carry a minimum penalty of 10 years and a maximum penalty of imprisonment for life, a penalty of $250,000 or both, informed US Attorney James P Kennedy. The messages by the man were sent out on August, 2018. The sentencing in the case is scheduled for June 17.
The International Indian Film Academy Awards 2020 (IIFA) scheduled to be held in March end in Indore, Madhya Pradesh has been postponed amid coronavirus scare. “With due regard to the growing concerns around the spread of the COVID-19 virus and keeping the health and safety of IIFA’s fans and the general community at large, after consulting the Madhya Pradesh government, the IIFA management, and stakeholders from the film industry it has been decided to postpone to a later date the much-awaited IIFA Weekend and Awards 2020 celebrations which were originally scheduled at the end of March 2020,” according to a statement by IIFA.
In a bailout approved by RBI and the government, LIC and SBI are expected to pick up 24.5 percent stake each in Yes Bank.The deal will be worth Rs 490 crore, claim reports.Just yesterday, the Stock exchange had sought clarification from Yes Bank on the news of Government approving a plan to allow an SBI-led consortium to buy a stake in the private lender.
