Hi, this is IELTSIELTS.com, Lesson 192. Thank you for leaving a like and share on this work, and remember to go to IELTSIELTS.com to access over 100 repeat-after-me lessons just like this one. This week, we are looking at an IELTS Speaking Part 2 cue card that asks you to speak about an old item that has been in your family for a long period of time. I'll read this cue card to you now.
Describe an old item that has been in your family for a long period of time. You should say what the item is, how your family got it, how long it has been in your family, and explain why it is important to your family. Alright, first thing, let's listen to the sample so you can hear the model spoken naturally. Here it is. We will now start part two of the exam. Here is your cue card. Start speaking now, please.
One of the oldest items in my family is a traditional cuckoo clock. This clock has been hanging in my grandparents' living room for as long as I can remember. It's a beautifully handcrafted wooden clock with intricate carvings of birds and leaves. At the hour, a small wooden bird pops out of a little door and says cuckoo, which always fascinated me as a child.
The clock was originally bought by my great-grandfather when he traveled to Germany in the early 1900s. He wanted to bring back something special that represented the culture of the place he visited, and cuckoo clocks were famous in that region. This particular clock has been in our family for over a hundred years, and it has been passed down from one generation to the next. What makes it so special is not just its age, but the memories associated with it.
As kids, my cousins and I would wait eagerly to see the bird emerge and count how many cuckoos it made. Even now, when I visit my grandparents' house, the sound of the clock evokes a nostalgic feeling. It has become a symbol of our family traditions, and I hope it will continue to be passed down to future generations of our family. Thank you.
Okay, we will now start this week's speech shadowing exercise. In this week's free sample exercise, you will repeat the first few sentences from the model. I'll read this section of the response again to you now, just to refresh your memory. One of the oldest items in my family is a traditional cuckoo clock.

If this is your first time doing a speech shadowing exercise, remember you should be speaking aloud as you listen. So, you will first hear a portion of the sample, and then you will be given a pause within which to repeat what you have heard.
And the point of the exercise is to try to adjust your pronunciation to sound as much like the model as possible. Remember that at ieltsielts.com, just 25 US dollars per month gives you access to the full shadowing lessons. Okay, here is this week's speech shadowing exercise. Enjoy. We will now start part two of the exam. Here is your cue card. Start speaking now, please.
