If you want to feel more connected to humanity and a little less alone, listen to Beautiful Anonymous. Each week, I take a phone call from one random anonymous human being. There's over 400 episodes in our back catalog. You get to feel connected to all these different people all over the world.

Recent episodes include one where a lady survived a murder attempt by her own son. But then the week before that, we just talked about Star Trek. It can be anything. It's unpredictable. It's raw. It's real. Get Beautiful Anonymous wherever you listen to podcasts.

This week, we are looking at an IELTS Speaking Part 2 cue card on the topic of promises. I'll read the cue card to you now. Describe a time when you made a promise that you were unable to keep. You should say what the promise was, who you made the promise to, why you couldn't keep it, and explain how you felt about it.

Alright, first thing, let's listen to the sample so you can hear the model spoken naturally. Here it is. We will now start part two of the exam. Start speaking now, please. One particular time I failed to keep a promise was about a year ago when I told my younger brother that I would attend his school play. He had been rehearsing for weeks and was playing one of the lead roles in a production of The Lion King. The promise was made to my younger brother.

We're quite close, despite the fact I'm ten years older. I have always tried my best to be involved in his life, because our parents work long hours. Unfortunately, on the day of the play, something completely unexpected happened at work. I had recently started working at a marketing firm, and a client presentation that was scheduled for the following week got suddenly moved up.

The entire team was called in for an emergency prep session, and I had no choice but to stay. I felt terrible for breaking that promise. I could sense how disappointed my brother was when I called him to explain. He tried to brush it off and say it was okay, but I could hear the sadness in his voice. I felt like I had let him down, and it made me realize how fragile trust can be, especially with younger people who look up to you.

Since then, I've been much more careful about making promises. That experience taught me that it's better to under-promise and over-deliver than the other way around. Thank you. Okay, we will now start this week's speech shadowing exercise. In this week's free sample exercise, you will repeat the first few sentences from the model. I'll read this section of the response again to you now, just to refresh your memory.

Okay, let's go ahead and start the speech shadowing exercise. If this is your first time doing a speech shadowing exercise, remember you should be speaking aloud as you listen. So, you will first hear a portion of the sample, and then you will be given a pause within which to repeat what you have heard.

And the point of the exercise is to try to adjust your pronunciation to sound as much like the model as possible. Remember that at the IELTS Ryan YouTube members channel, just 25 US dollars per month gives you access to the full shadowing lessons. Find a link to join in the description of this video. Okay, here's this week's speech shadowing exercise. Enjoy. We will now start part two of the exam. Start speaking now, please.
