SERMON NOTES (click arrow to the right to open)Main Idea: We are misfits for Jesus stumbling into the kingdom of God.Sermon Notes: Listed here are the complexities for understanding the Kingdom. 1. The kingdom is here and not yet here. 2. There is tension in seeking to live in the kingdom of God while we are in the kingdom of this world. 3. Our own brokenness with worship on one hand and then split second struggling with attitudes. Our mission is to dream what our lives will be like with Jesus as king and start living it out. Jesus makes this concrete. Matthew 5:38-45. This king sends us out, taking forgiveness wherever we go. Matthew 6:9-13. This is our prayer in the time between times. This is how we mobilize.Three Questions for Kingdom Life 1. What is the kingdom of God like? Matthew 3:1-6 through baptism we follow Jesus, follow in the kingdom. Jesus too is baptized, following the kingdom. Matthew 3:16-17 , the mark of the kingdom of God shown in the baptism of Jesus, the Father's affirmation; the Word, Love, and Spirit.2. What is the kingdom of the world like? Rather than stumbling toward Jesus we stumble away. Matthew 4:1-4 Jesus tempted by Satan, "take care of yourself" Matthew 4:5-7 "go easy on yourself" Matthew 4:8-10 "respect me and I will give you all things." Kingdom of this world teaches to compromise, the kingdom of God calls for integrity and service.3. How do I get in on the kingdom of God? Step in! But not everyone wants to. Those that do know they are broken, at the end of the rope. Luke 7:36-47 the hard fought self righteousness! Through brokenness we find worship, forgiveness, and gentleness from Jesus.Application Questions: 1. What partnership do we sometimes strike up with the world? 2. Which one are you? The Pharisee or the woman in Luke 7? 3. To enter the kingdom of God Pavi states "What we need is humility." Discuss this in your life. (What is your story?) 4. Share your thoughts on "John " and "Jane." How have you seen the gentleness of Jesus in your life?
