Still sat down in the centre circle. Javi Mane who is standing over him. Most of the Wednesday night players in staff are motionless. He's stood up still. Just looking to my left, Joshua Xerxe. He's sat down in the penalty area over in Arnhem. He proves he's occupied. Lenny Orr has sat near him. Both of them in their own worlds. Harry Maguire has not long berated Christian Romero who came in as the United half.
I think to console some teammates, but there's a bit of legal between Maguire and Rivera. So the choir wasn't having it to our right and to them players. A lot of them have got the flags of their nation. They're absolutely euphoric as you'd understand given it's their first trophy since 2008 that trophy drought is over and Costa Concord's made very good on his words that he wins something in his second season and he has done at the expense of Manchester United.
We all have to focus on United as a beautiful day played by Vuzor. It certainly is the top derby. It's a dark day for United because it's an absolute fact now. This is the worst Manchester United team in 51 years. The worst team to play were relegated.
There are no caveats. We don't have to insert the word domestic. They are that bad. They're going to end 16th or 17th this season. Tottenham won't care if they do end 17th. They, of course, play Brighton at home on Sunday. United almost certainly will lose at home to Aston Villa on Sunday before they have to embark on their tour of shame with Kuala Lumpur.
and Hong Kong. But this Manchester United squad has to be gutted now. It was notable looking at their end. There are still some United supporters, maybe a couple of hundred, a few hundred who have remained to show their support. But that Manchester United end emptied extremely quickly.
They've shown harmony, they've shown solidarity with the team, they've stayed onside in recent weeks despite the dreadful domestic form, despite them not winning a Premier League game in two months. Some players are just going over to Garnaccio, I think it's Rodrigo Benzancur, not too sure who the other top-runner player is, but Garnaccio looks uncontrollable and it's understandable for him. He should have started, I would have started him.
His future is going to be a big talking point, of course, but I digress. Going back to this United squad and the support, it could be quite an ugly atmosphere on Saturday. Supporters, the 1958 group then landing another process.
Given that the best this season has been the mess that the Ineos cabal have made at this season Really they have got the season they deserved They've made some ridiculous decisions. They made the ridiculous decision of keeping Eric Den Haag They made the ridiculous decision of bucking him in another Dutts-centric transfer window It was not a ridiculous decision to sack him when they did they should have sacked him far sooner He should have been in the summer
but to have replaced him with someone who is about as far removed from ten hard as you could possibly get was going to be a risk and that man of course Ruben Amrim himself he forecast the storm as early as his
I think this is his third week in charge and the gales are howling so that atmosphere on Sunday will be really interesting to observe. I suspect it will not be as harmonious as it has been in recent weeks because you've just had a mood killer of an evening and really if you look at the cold parts facts
United have not scored in, I think it's 15 or 16 games this season. Three of those games have come against Tottenham. Tottenham have beaten them four times this season. This is the worst Tottenham team since they were relegated in 1977. There's no way of sugarcoating this. There's no way of trying to put a positive spin on it, of putting gloss on it.
we're going to have barren midweeks next season watching and following Manchester United as of course there's the Broaddusville it's going to be
season without European football it's going to be two seasons, two successful seasons without Champions League football. That's what happened since United qualified for the European Cup in 1993. That's how apocalyptic this season has really been. But really they have got the season they deserve United and they're just about to do the trophy procession and United was out first to collect
their silver medals, it looks like United have got their dignitary on the podium to commiserate with them. But really those players are going to want to get off the pitch as soon as possible. It's been a disastrous night for United. It was another all too familiar Tepe performance. Again, the team that Ambren picked, there was only one change from the game against Chelsea on Sunday, sorry not on Sunday, on Friday.
United had one attempt on target that day. What did they expect? There were too many contentious calls. Mason Mill stars ahead of Alejandro Garnaccio. Garnaccio clearly did not take that well. He went on his Instagram account, posted a story of an image referencing his goal in the FA Cup final last season.
So you could tell what point he was trying to get across there. When the teams were actually confirmed here at the stadium, he was still out on the bench talking to Sergio and Reguilón, his former teammate. That's kind of like what... That was his way of getting his message across and conveying that.
So here of course, Kostny press. I've no idea why Luke Shaw was starting. He didn't deserve to start. He barely started any games at City, City United. Just because you're left-footed doesn't mean you should start. I personally would have come with Masrari in the back three. You play Masrari on the wing, you're inhibiting your attack. If it's Masrari, he doesn't do much. He starts on much attacking.
And whatever selection that man was going to make at United Gloucester, it was going to be quite easy to criticise him, which is what we're obviously doing now. But there were different ways of knowing about it. He should have taken Barca's Oylen down a team some time ago, trialled what it would have been like without a strike and he's never going to do that. Oylen didn't get a kick to the right and he did get the hit, his head to the ball in the second half and then very close to equalising
But by that point, Amrim had made his mind up that Hoyland was going to come up and Joshua Xerxe, who had not played in 38 days, was going to come on, which reflects damning in Hoyland. It also reflects damningly on this Patrick Schneider side that they put a defender up further here in the Carrion of Fire. This is a team that's invested £180.5 million on two strikers in the last two summers.
Again, that's another reason why this United squad has to be gutted. It's nothing against Zirkty. He's had a creditable pan in the year, become an almost broad-line con hero. He's not good enough for Manchester United though. He is not going to be part of the Manchester United team or squad that needs to get where it wants to be. And where they need to be next season is top six, is the aim of the club. They've got to be able to get back into the Champions League because they've gone two seasons out of the competition as it is.
they will have the benefit, if you like, of no European football whatsoever next season. The United Tottenham players have formed a guard of honour for the United players. We were just skulking through them at the moment. They're about to just go through the motions of shaking hands with final six signatories, taking their medals. Ritter gives us a first thought, unsurprisingly. I'm not too sure he's even got his medal around his neck.
I'm not so sure they're even putting the medals around the players' licks. It's actually difficult to make out whether they're getting medals. I assume they are, but it doesn't look like any of them have been to be wearing them. Fernandes is just signaling to the players to go over to the handful of Manchester United supporters who are left in the stadium this week. As I'm speaking at the moment,
They're just passing some top-middle-start members who are offering some obligatory applause as well. But essentially United players are just going through the motions at the moment. They're going to show their gratitude and support us, but there are far more empty seats than there are supportive players at the moment. United players will of course stay out as well to congratulate Tottenham, which is what we're going to do.
But myself and Clive Marshall, who's sat to the right at the moment, will do a thorough debrief, a podcast, to go through why this has been the worst motorbike season in 51 years, why it went wrong tonight. It's obviously not what we want to be doing, it's not ideal for us, it's not the outcome any of us wanted from a professional perspective, United's course from a personal perspective, but obviously it's
extremely disappointed to say the least. And Tottenham are about to go and receive the Europa League trophy now. And we'll sign off from here because we're going to have to go down and talk to Ruben Amritsar. Thank you for listening to this post-Spanish snap podcast.
