Deep Dive

Chapters
This chapter explores the state of digital pathology adoption across Europe, North America, and Asia. It highlights the prevalent use cases and the significant obstacles hindering wider clinical implementation, such as reimbursement challenges and the need to overcome hesitations among pathologists.
  • Digital pathology adoption varies significantly across continents.
  • Primary diagnosis is a key goal but faces challenges.
  • Obstacles include reimbursement, interoperability, and regulatory hurdles.
  • Workflow integration and convincing pathologists are crucial for successful implementation.

This special episode of Beyond The Scope features a panel discussion with the 3 current Presidents of Digital Pathology societies on 3 different continents. Junya Fukuoka MD, PhD is a lung pathologist and President of the Japanese Society of Digital Pathology. Norman Zerbe is a computer scientist and President of the European Society of Digital and Integrative Pathology. Esther Abels is a clinical and regulatory expert and President of the Digital Pathology Association in North America. Topics included in the panel discussion are: 1) The state of DP/AI adoption on each continent, 2) Ethical and regulatory considerations surrounding new pathology technology, 3) Standards for emerging technologies, and 4) Advice to pathologists and vendors looking to move the industry forward.
