Hello everybody, and welcome to a new episode of News Bites!
I'm Ryan Drillsma…
And I'm Trevor Tortomasi…
In today's news:
A-mei tickets sell out, France stops selling fruit in plastic, and David Bowie's songs are sold to Warner Chappell Music.
All that and more, coming up next.
A-Mei Tickets Sell Out in 9 Minutes
Do you know the singer A-mei?
She's often called the Queen of Mandopop - which means she might be the most famous woman in Chinese pop music.
A-mei has sold over 50 million records (專輯) - that's more than twice the population of Taiwan (多於台灣人口的兩倍).
And just recently, she began selling tickets for some concerts coming up at the Taipei Arena
How long do you think it takes a singer to sell out of concert tickets?
"Sell out" means all the tickets are sold.
Well, for A-mei, it just takes nine minutes.
And that's for 12 separate concerts!
A-mei's record label EMI Records said all 130 thousand tickets sold out in just nine minutes.
Despite her popularity, EMI Records said no further dates will be added to A-Mei's schedule.
However, if you weren't able to get tickets within those nine minutes, there may still be a chance (機會) to get your hands on some.
Because some of the people that "bought" those tickets did not complete their payments So the ticket website has put them back on sale again.
But they're likely to sell out again pretty fast!
Nine minutes is not actually a new record for concert ticket sales.
K-Pop band EXO sold over 67 thousand tickets in just 0.2 seconds, for their 2017 tour.
France Bans Plastic Packaging for Fruit and Veg
Fruit and vegetables are always a delicious and healthy choice.
At least, for us.
Have you ever bought fruit or veg… and it comes in a plastic tray (保鮮盒)… or a plastic bag (塑膠袋)… or plastic wrapping (保鮮膜).
Sometimes it might even just be one piece of fruit, or one vegetable, and it's covered in plastic!
It's not just annoying (煩人)… it's obviously bad for the environment, too.
That's why France has banned (禁止) plastic packaging for most fruit and veg.
The French government has said it wants to "phase out" single-use plastics by 2040.
That means stop making plastic that can only be used once.
And as part of this, 30 kinds of fruit and veg can no longer be wrapped in plastic.
So cucumbers, lemons and oranges must be sold in other kinds of packaging… or in no packaging at all.
Chopped fruit or processed fruit does not have to follow this new rule.
More than a third of fruit and veg sold in France is currently sold in plastic.
Later this year, restaurants in France will no longer be allowed to offer kids plastic toys.
Plastic cups, straws and cutlery are already banned there.
Let's hope Taiwan will take similar measures to stop plastic pollution soon!
