Hi everyone, and welcome to a new episode of News Bites!
I'm Nancy Sun…
And I'm Trevor Tortomasi.
In today's news:
Animals cross the road, bugs turn into gummies, and a pig gets the last laugh.
All that and more, coming up next.
Animal Crossing Made Safer
"Why did the chicken cross the road?"
"To get to the other side!"
Have you heard this joke before?
Well, a sign in Nantou County is making it safer for animals to cross the road.
Road signs (路標) are usually on or next to the road.
They give information, or tell drivers what to do.
But the road sign on Hehuanshan looks a little different.
The sign on the mountain road shows a cute picture of a squirrel.
It's a Perny's long-nosed squirrel
And the little squirrel is shown holding an acorn.
The sign was made by the Taiwan Endemic Species Research Institute and Puli Township officials.
They say the long-nosed squirrels often cross the road there.
They want drivers to watch out for the squirrels and other animals when they are driving in the mountains.
And the Perny's long-nosed squirrel is not the only animal with a special sign.
Officials say there is another sign for sheep, and a few others too.
They say the animals on the signs were chosen because they are often found nearby.
They hope this will keep the animals safe.
Would You Eat Insect Gummies?
Would you like some fruit-flavored gummy?
How about if they were made from bugs?
It takes a lot of food to feed all the people living on Earth.
Some people don't get enough to eat.
And all the animals we keep and the food we grow can be hard on the environment.
Some people say there's an answer to this problem.
They think we should eat insects.
Insects like grasshoppers or mealworms have a lot of protein.
And growing lots of these bugs doesn't use as much water and energy as other animals like cows and pigs.
One man in Israel is now trying out this idea with candy.
Dror Tamir started a company that makes gummies from locusts (蝗蟲).
He says locusts taste like mushrooms, coffee and chocolate.
But he adds different flavors (調味品), and the locust gummies he makes taste like orange and strawberry.
Dror says he also wants to use bugs to make energy bars, and even burgers.
There are about 7.7 billion people living in the world right now.
Some scientists say by the year 2050, there will be 9.8 billion people living in the world.
And they think it will be hard to have enough food for everyone, if we keep eating the same things we do now.
Dror says his locusts take just 29 days to become fully grown, and his company can grow 400 million locusts each year.
He says farming locusts makes less air pollution, and uses less land, water and electricity.
But some scientists think we need to know more about what happens to our bodies when we eat bugs.
What do you think? Would you be okay with eating insects?
TV Show Album Reviews Better than Kanye
An unlikely new album has gotten a decent review.
The Peppa Pig TV show's second album is called Peppa's Adventures: The Album.
It contains 10 songs taken from the children's television show, sung by the lead character's voice actor (配音員).
Pitchfork Magazine gave the album a rating of 6.5 out of 10.
The thing is, that is a better score than Pitchfork gave Kanye West's new album.
Called Donda, Pitchfork gave that album a 6.
The Peppa Pig Twitter account made fun of (取笑) Kanye for the better review they got.
That tweet has since been deleted though.
