Hello everybody, and welcome to a new episode of News Bites!

I'm Ryan Drillsma…

And I'm Nancy Sun.

In today's news:

Taipei Zoo welcomes new baby animals, a boy in the U.K. makes a fortune online, and a popular musical gets a sequel.

All that and more, coming up next.

Baby Tapir Born at Taipei Zoo

Summer has brought new life to Taipei Zoo.

On August 10th, a baby tapir was born there.

A tapir (貘) is a small mammal with a 'trunk' - or a long nose it uses to grab things - that is related to the horse and the rhino.

But it kind of looks like a pig!

Tapirs can come from central and South American, but the ones at Taipei Zoo are Malayan tapirs, so they are from Southeast Asia.

And the new birth is exciting news, because Malayan tapirs are endangered (瀕危的).

In fact, it's so exciting that the zoo held an online vote so people could decide its name.

And the winning name was… Mo Hua Dou (貘花豆).

Why this name? It was chosen because the tapir's brother was named Mo Dou (貘豆) when he was born last year.

Both names were given to them by a Taiwanese cartoon artist called Cherng who draws pictures of tapirs.

Also… Mo Hua Dou sounds like a Taiwanese phrase which means "literally can't" in English.

Mo Hua Dou was not the only new life Taipei Zoo welcomed this summer.

The staff working there were very excited to discover some flamingos (紅鶴) had laid eggs.

They were not expecting it this year.

The heavy rains over the summer made it difficult for the flamingos to make nests (做窩).

For now, staff at the zoo have switched the eggs with fake ones!

This is so the mother flamingos can still look after what they think are their children, while the real eggs are kept in a place where they can stay warm enough.

British Student Makes Fortune Selling NFTs

A 12-year-old boy in the United Kingdom recently made 290 thousand pounds selling non-fungible tokens online.

That's over 11 million NT dollars!

You're probably wondering what non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are.

They are a kind of digital artwork that people buy and sell using cryptocurrency.

Once you buy an NFT, you own a special piece of code (程式碼) on the internet that says it's yours, no matter how many times people copy or reproduce it (複製它).

During school holidays in the UK, Benyamin decided to create his own NFTs called Weird Whales.

They are pictures are whales made up of pixels (畫素), and they are different colors, and often wearing funny hats.

And they are Benyamin's second artwork collection; his first was inspired by Minecraft.

He also plans to make another inspired by superheroes.

Benyamin created 3,350 Weird Whales by coding them (寫程式) through a program.

Coding is like a language we use to tell computers what to do.

Benyamin started learning to code with his brother Yousef when he was five years old.

He started doing it for fun, but then took it more seriously, and now he practices for 20 to 30 minutes every day.

And his practice paid off when he sold his Weird Whales for a lot of money.

The money Benyamin made isn't in a physical (實體的) bank account, it's in a virtual one in the form of cryptocurrency.

He hasn't decided to tell his classmates about it yet.

Bohemian Rhapsody Sequel Coming

A popular musical movie is getting a follow-up.

Bohemian Rhapsody, about the band Queen, came out in 2018.

It starred Rami Malek as lead singer (主唱) Freddie Mercury.

Band member Brian May has now confirmed that a sequel is coming.

The band members were not always in favor of a second movie.

Just last year, they were still saying that a second film was not likely to happen.

However, they have since changed their minds (改變主意), and are now working on ideas for a sequel.

The original film won four Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor.
