Hi there, and welcome to a new episode of News Bites!

I'm Nancy Sun…

All that and more, coming up next.

Working Together to Save Seabirds

Do you like eating tuna fish (鮪魚)?

Well, Taiwan fishing boats catch a lot of tuna!

But unfortunately, when the fishermen are trying to catch tuna, they sometimes accidentally catch seabirds.

The tuna are caught with long fishing lines towed (拖) behind the boat.

On the lines are long hooks (鉤) and fishermen put bait (魚餌) on the hooks to catch the tuna.

But sometimes birds see the bait on the lines and they try to grab it.

Many of those birds will get hurt, and sometimes die.

So, the government's Fisheries Agency (漁業署) and bird conservation groups from Taiwan and England are working together to change this.

They want to find ways to save those birds.

They collected data (收集數據) from 5 fishing boats.

Two of the boats fish in the Indian Ocean (印度洋) and the other three boats fish in the Pacific Ocean (太平洋).

Researchers will look at the data and think of ways to help fishermen catch less seabirds.

The three groups will also publish (出版) a handbook (手冊).

The book will help fishermen identify (辨認) different sea birds.

The groups also have some other ideas (辦法).

One idea is to add bright streamers (彩帶) to the lines.

The birds are afraid of the bright colors so they won't fly close to the fishing lines.

Another idea is to add a weight (硾) to the fishing line.

This way, the bait goes into the water, where the birds can't catch it.

First Group of Private Astronauts Returns to Earth from Space Station

On April 8-th, the first group of private astronauts visited the International Space Station.

The four people were only supposed to stay at the space station for one week.

But they had to delay (延後) their return because of bad weather.

They ended up staying over two weeks at the space station.

Finally, on April 25th, the team safely returned to Earth.

Before leaving, the four people thanked the seven astronauts who hosted them.

They landed safely in the Atlantic Ocean (大西洋) near the US state of Florida (佛羅里達).

They came back on the same spaceship (太空船) that took them into space.

The ship, called the Crew Dragon, is owned and operated (操作) by SpaceX.

After landing on Earth, the four men were assisted (協助) out of the ship.

They were then taken onto a boat and brought back to land.

On the boat, they were given a quick health check

When they arrived back on land, they were flown to NASA for a more thorough (更徹底的) health check.

The mission director (任務主任) said that all four private astronauts are in good health and they are in good spirits (情緒穩定,心情好).

The Queen of England Prepares for her 70th Anniversary on the Throne
