Hello everybody, and welcome to a new episode of News Bites!

I'm Trevor Tortomasi…

And I'm Ryan Drillsma.

All that and more, coming up next.

Students Sing to Make Cabbage Grow

Eating lots of fruits and vegetables can be really good for your health (健康).

But recently, some students have found a new way to make their plants stronger, as well.

And it's not just with water and soil (土壤)…

They used music to help their vegetables grow!

A group of students at Kaohsiung First Community University (高雄市第一社區大學) have tried something new with their fruits and vegetables.

These students were growing crops (農作物) for a special event.

The crops included tomatoes, pumpkins, green peppers, and cabbages.

They planted the crops on a small piece of land, about 20 ping (坪), or 66 square meters (六十六平方公尺).

The students had been taking classes to learn how to grow these crops for a while already, but they were all still very new to farming

So they tried some silly things, like playing music and singing their favorite songs to the crops.

But everyone was surprised when one of their cabbages grew to be 14.7 kilograms!

Farmers say most cabbages can take as long as five months to fully grow.

The students say this one grew in four, and probably could have kept growing!

So was it the power of music that made their vegetable giant (巨大)?

Maybe you should try singing to your plants every day and see for yourself!

Man Receives a Heart From a Pig

One of the of the strongest organs (器官) in the human body is the heart (心臟).

It needs to be strong, because its job is to pump blood to all parts of your body (把血液送到全身各處), all day, every day, for your whole life.

But sometimes, a person's heart is too weak (脆弱), and doesn't work very well.

Doctors can find a way to make it stronger, or help it heal (復原), but if they can't…

A person might need to get a heart transplant

This means they take out the weak heart, and replace it (代替) with a stronger heart from somewhere else.

Usually, it comes from another person…

But for the first time in history, a human has replaced his heart with a heart from a pig!

Of course, a pig's heart is very different from a person's, so the human body would usually not work with one.

But after many years of hard work, scientists were able to genetically change (基因改造) a pig's heart to fit in a person.

And doctors are incredibly happy to see that the man is alive and healthy, even after getting his new heart!

Every year, many people with weak organs, like hearts, kidneys, and livers, have to wait for other people who are willing to give their stronger ones.

But it's very difficult to find people who are willing to donate

Scientists and doctors hope that using an animal heart may be a new beginning, to helping people live longer and healthier lives!

Goldfish Can Drive

If you have a pet goldfish (金魚), it may be time to treat it with more respect.

Researchers in Israel discovered that goldfish are so smart they can be taught to drive.

The fish have their own "F.O.V.", which stands for "fish-operated vehicle".

It has equipment (設備) like computers, cameras, and monitors (監視器) that allow the fish to control what the FOV does.

The fish make use of special equipment to help them drive their cars.

Scientists say the fish were confused at first, but it didn't take them long to work out (想出來) what is happening.

And just like humans, researchers say some fish are better at driving than others.
