Welcome to Raven's Readings. All novels are copyright-free here in Canada. I'm reading from The Big Sleep, a hardboiled crime novel written in 1939 by Raymond Chandler, introducing his character Philip Marlow. It was adapted to film in 1946, starring Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall.
Last time, Marlow was hired by General Sternwood to deal with someone who was blackmailing the younger daughter, Carmen. Now the detective will meet the older daughter, Vivian, who'd been briefly married to a bootlegger, Rusty Regan. Then he'll search out the blackmailer, A.G. Geiger, a dealer in rare books.
I do readings twice a week. Please subscribe to my Substack newsletter, and you'll be notified of my updates as soon as they are ready. If you enjoy this reading, or have other classics you'd like to hear, leave me a comment.
