Richard Clayderman, born Philippe Pagès in 1953 in Paris, is a renowned French pianist known for his romantic style. Trained at the Conservatoire de Paris, he left due to financial hardships and worked as an accompanist. His breakthrough came in 1976 with Ballade Pour Adeline, composed by Paul de Senneville, which sold over 22 million copies worldwide. To appeal internationally, he adopted his great-grandmother’s surname as his stage name. With over 1,300 recorded pieces and global acclaim—especially in Asia—he is recognized by Guinness as the most successful pianist in the world. Nancy Reagan dubbed him “the prince of romance.”
