The Kensington Runestone is a greywacke stone with runic inscriptions, discovered in Minnesota in 1898 by Swedish immigrant Olof Ohman. The inscription claims Norse explorers reached North America in 1362, but its authenticity is widely disputed. Linguistic analysis shows the text resembles modern Swedish, with anachronistic words and mixed rune styles, some unknown in medieval alphabets. The inscription also appears freshly carved, lacking weathering. Most scholars consider it a 19th-century hoax, though some believe it genuine. The Runestone is displayed at the Runestone Museum in Alexandria, Minnesota, where debate continues over its origins and the possibility of early Norse exploration.
