Donald Trump launched a meme coin called $TRUMP on January 17, 2025, just days before his presidential inauguration. Built on the Solana blockchain, the coin quickly gained traction, amassing a substantial market cap. Its launch was announced via a post on Trump’s Truth Social account. According to the official website, $TRUMP is “not intended to be, or the subject of, an investment opportunity, investment contract, or security of any type” and is described as “not political,” with no ties to any campaign, political office, or government agency.
The venture was orchestrated by CIC Digital LLC, an affiliate of the Trump Organization, in partnership with Fight Fight Fight LLC. Currently, 80% of $TRUMP tokens are held by these entities, with the remainder set to be released over three years. The coin’s value has shown dramatic fluctuations, with some investors realizing massive gains and a fully diluted market capitalization exceeding $70 billion.
