Hi, i'm lot of inter cam. I'm a mother of five, an author, journalist and speaker.

and i'm Sarah heart under a mother of three practicing position writer and course creator. We are two working parents who love our careers and our families.

Welcome to best of both worlds. Here we talk about how real women manage work, family and time for fun. From figuring out childcare to mapping out long term career goals, we want you to get the most out of life.

Welcome the best of both worlds. This is Lauren. This episode is herring in early november of twenty twenty four.

And well, perhaps much of the news is political related. As we all know, this is a fairly non political podcast. And so far, united safely terms, you can know that IT continues with that.

We are gonna discussing a week of meals. So we know from lots of listener feedback over the years at any time we talk about meals, I don't know. People get very excited. Meal planning is one of those topics where we all feel like if we just had the perfect meal plan, life would run smoothly, like there would be rainbows and butterflies, there would be no problems whatsoever, really as simple as a meal plan right there.

Ah oh yes, the meal plan fixes everything. No, but I think it's partly just because it's a commonality like everybody has various chAllenges, but everyone has the chAllenge of deciding how they're going to feed themselves, perhaps deciding how they are going to participate in feeding their family. And IT is one of those areas where when you hear how somebody else does that, even if that sounds completely untended able to you as an entire package, you might be like, woo, but that snacks sounds solicited. And I think i'll copy IT like it's an area right for getting inspiration from others.

absolutely. I mean, we all eat and we all sleep, I mean, pretty much. And so these are the commonalities of the human experience for all our differences.

We do, in fact, all eat, so we can unite around that at least. So we decided to do one hundred sixty hours of meals. Where have you youth tracked your eating before, haven't you? No, I actually .

do IT fairly regularly. It's a habit like I do IT on my daily planner, just how I track my media, and like to some extent, how I spend my time during the day. And I don't track any of IT perfectly, not the media, not the time and not the food. I certainly don't have any measurements at all, its quality native descriptions only.

But I find that I just like helps me see where I maybe like any more protein, or like if I haven't eating vegetable in three days, or I felt terrible on my runs and I can look back and figure out, like I have a good amount of cars that before something like that. And I think there is an element of, like you manage what you measure, not that are measuring, but like just the awareness helps me sometimes make Better choices. So finally, enough, Laura, like we were choosing the days to do this and you were like, we're doing this day and then all the son realized, like, I don't care what day SHE picks because I already kind of like, have IT. So was very easy for me to .

report back yeah, we chose the week of september thirty through october six to record, which is not right before this is earring is not even right before we recorded IT is that I was traveling the week that was before IT. And so I was gonna be eating the vast majority of my meals and restaurants, which, as you will see from what i'm talking here, is not the norm at all.

Now I do travel on occasion, so I guess the idea that there is no typical week comes up here, but I felt that that would be a particularly non typical weaken, wouldn't really have so much of anything. But are you thought we should do one hundred sixty eight hours of all sorts of things track? loser?

yeah. Because, well, as I was writing this down this spin, the idea that would be a fun and very on brand series for you since IT was one of your bustling books, one hundred and sixty eight hours. So I was like, okay, one hundred and sixty eight hours of our media consumption, one hundred and sixty eight hours of sleep habits, screen habits, movement, connection times, outfits, spending, that would be good. You'll be juicy, I don't know. Like I would listen to, like one hundred and sixty eight, our podcast, where I got to smoke on what others were doing .

in various categories, ies. So see, the problem with outfits is that this is audio. We have to do that more on the blog as a video. For that perhaps .

there can be a video companion.

a video companion to the yeah I think the spending I mean, how much of your spending .

is weekly though? I mean, I it's a snapshot in time. I mean, yeah I mean, time is so that i'm not like you. I'm just cutting like buying something ridiculous. I had to know I would totally actually see Sarah, the blogger who rates at Harry time.

So I just in view on bassler plans, she's been doing a spending series where SHE gets pretty granular with her bloggers, and I find IT fascinating. He even had a category best purchase of the day and worse purchase of the day, which I thought was I opening and yeah, I don't know. I mean, I don't know that we're necessarily the ones to do this, but I mean, I always feel like you should create the podcast that you would want to listen to, and I would totally listen to that.

totally listen to that, right? Well, well, well, say, I got to say, and I ve been tracking my time for nine and a half years, and for whatever reason, that seems fine to me. I actually did not particularly enjoy tracking what I eat. I feel like I just do not want to think about IT pretty clearly. It's, I don't know.

totally fair. I think tracking different things is very individual.

yes. And I track workouts to a degree, partly just because I do IT on my time log. great.

But i've never recorded what I eat on the time log, even though you would see that I was eating dinner, eating ln, eating breakfast or whatever. But yeah, all right. Well, maybe it'll do a week of sleep and that'll be the other common experience. I don't think we do a whole podcast out.

Maybe I was going to say I don't think that's a full episode.

That would be a segment then. That's one where we do a longer question where I get on my so backs again about something. We'll see if we come up with that.

But alright, well, let's go ahead and get started with seras week of meals. So remember, this is end of september at beginning of the tebu will notice some certain themes. So Sarah wakes up, brighten early monday morning, september or thirty. What does SHE put in her mouth?

Well, you're going to be really bored by my record. That gets a little repetitive. I've spoken about my morning routine before, but I run pretty early.

And I learned from nutritionist extraordinaire Megan father stine that a very easy prey n fuel is to eat some gram cracker. So i've been doing that for a leg more than a year now. And so my day on monday started with four squares of trader joes grams.

And then I went on my run, or I had coffee every day. Just assume there is coffee. I drinking my coffee black, and I put ten grams of college in there, which also, I think, was a featherston hack. So I learned everything from her. Okay, so that's that's the morning then went from my run, came back and my usual breakfast when i'm driving the kids to school is to eat a perfect bar in the car because it's pretty substantial and very easily eat the car, make A S so I drove the kids at my perfect bar. And I must, I wrote apple, so I must have an apple afterwards, later, I don't know.

Let's get credit for the fruit here.

Just give me credit for my, for a lunch. This was a work day, like a patient care day every day, a work day in during the week for me. But only monday's, wednesday, friday are in office workday.

So on that day I heat IT up, some left over chili and eight and Peter chips, string ches, and then for dinner, which I did not cook. So our nanny generally does a lot of the prep and the cooking of the prep dish meals, which is a like a recipe subscription service that i've been using for a million years. They do sponsors ously plans, but I mean, I would a hundred hundred like I rely on them at this point.

So anyway, so we have like a beef, vegetable and rice surfy, and I ate that like between dance pick up. So there's a dance pick up at six and dance pick up at seven. And the studio is about ten minutes from our house.

So I have like this awkward IT of time. So just to even I, well before I won't got animal. And then I wrote, I have a missing lenise category of random things I snack on either after dinner or throughout the day. And I wrote down apple later, cookie, which actually are nanny, had purchased and left on the counter and said to eat them and IT was delicious. There's going to be a fall flavors by here.

Yeah, I have a question here. Did everyone eat a sense? I mean, when we reasoned thought about doing this episode, we're like, let's talk about what our family eats over the course of a week but then know we realize like not all the meals are together.

I I don't really know what my big kids are eating. A lot of the time they're the kitchen making their own stuff. But did your whole family eat the beef, rice and veg fy, or? And that was actually a .

very popular one. IT was made with the ground beef, I think. And I was like, very story sauce agents flavors, which is always a win for my kids.

So don't of even I ate IT at the same time. Animal was the dance I think SHE eat after. And Cameron, I don't remember he might have been with us actually I think he was.

And her husband.

like eat IT when he comes home. So yeah, he's never home during the week during like when we would be eating dinner but he at home, I am sure he had the same thing, but he probably heated up probably if I had to get got home like seven, thirty or something like thought and had the same thing.

all right, we would take a quick outbreak and they will be back with more of this week of meals.

So we are back talking what we ate over the course of a week. So sir, I suspect that the second morning also involved gram crackers.

Yes, how did you guess it's gonna really old, you guys. So per run, grams and coffee. This time after my run, I mixed IT up with half of eight dave killer bread, sing and raising bagel, which we buy in like bulk, because josh, in particular absolutely love them.

And I had put sun butter on top. I don't think we were out of pa butter or I just felt like IT, who knows? And I had an apple with cinnamon.

And then then this was like a great. So this was a day, john, if you've had a kind of longer appointment that I had to drop her off at. So I dropped her off and then went to starbucks, and I got a pumpkin spice.

And that's what I take to do. Is this a week of meals? Because I was so excited that I was going to get to share my pumpkin spice. And I don't Normally order these, but I was october first, like I had to, and I got IT with old milk, because for whatever reason, I like my coffee drinks, the starbucks with an old milk. Unlike Laura, I don't have any like specific dory issues, but I really like old milk. And I had did IT with one pup of pumpkin spice, so that IT wasn't like disgustingly sweet and he was delicious, is very happy with my pumpkin in space. Li.

and they knew what to penner for lunch.

Then I just continued on my chain store. I don't know, like pattern here. And I picked them of you up, and then I ask her, SHE wanted to go, and SHE wanted to go to put her at.

So SHE got her little kids make cheese apple. And I had my Normal order, which is one of the chicken sandwich that are hot, like half of that. And then, weird enough, I get half the frugi apple salad, but no chicken in the salad because I don't like the chicken in the salad.

So yeah, that's my weird in order. Love IT and boring and get IT like every time. And then dinner was another practice thing, and I ate with Cameron in june again, while animal was at journal s SHE.

Probably ate a little bit before and probably a little bit after, shall often sort of a split her dinner into. Cause genetics is five, fifteen to eight, forty five. So, yeah, and this was a chicken IT was like a salad with a cucumber and feta. A chicken in a rap IT was good.

interesting, okay, right? Oh, god, is longer than I would have thought.

I know in law, and I would like we can .

do faster versions of that at some point. We just kept to dinner.

I'll just summarized the rest that, okay, so when there is another workday, guess what? Pro n grams perfect bar on the car. Lunch was a trader to salad at my working desk that had like slaw, dry cranberry and chicken in its one of my favorites.

And then I ate a honey greek yogurt at some point. And then we had a family, russia hundred and dinner because this was like early october. So we drove to self miami. And I had a glass of White wine and a whole bunch of stuff that I didn't specifically catalogue. E but just like, imagine all like meat, vegetable les, like salad, apple crisp, vanilla ice cream, like all the things.

So I want to say you're lunch hack there though, that you buy these T J salads, right? And so that is a very quick way to pack your lunch. And I might want to highlight .

that for people. Yes, and my kids actually like some of them as well. So sometimes that is one of their a lunches to they particularly like the season salad. Not very exciting.

but how big bunch of them on the weekend put him in the fridge?

You just have to check the expiration date because sometimes it's like wednesday or thursday in the week and then you have to make sure you have IT for launched earlier than that because it's salad and you don't want them to be all guilty and disgusting. Yeah right. Moving on to thursday.

Prone grams again. And then I had some honey crisp apple genoa from trader joes with milk. 那 OK。

Somehow I went to starbucks again. Not sure why, but okay. Starbucks open cache. no. Then I had some leftovers from wednesday's dinner for my lunch, that meditation, ian, chicken salad with a rap. And then for dinner I was another pretis.

IT was like a simple, simple sheet pan, like chicken, broccoli and potatoes, which my kids will eat as long as there is a ton of catchup. P on IT, I don't member who I actually eat with that day, but probably one of even camera naturally cause this soccer super late. And then my missile lenience was pumping trader joes jojo, like their orio version, and the quantity was unspecified. But I wrote at least the, at least two.

probably more pumpkin, more pumpkin IT was a very full week.

okay, on friday, prom grams, perfect world. While driving, dropping off the kids. My lunch was social, and at the work cafeteria, actually get free food at my work. If you're a physician, which is weird, and I don't particular IT very often because I don't like going to the work capture ia unless i'm going with a friend and I don't like taking the time to go unless i'm meeting someone.

So usually fridays are my work cafeteria experiences and I had salmons and rice and I know there's at least one person who listened to this was like, I was there. I remember, okay, anyway, whatever. Hi, we had some buffalo color fire, which is like an excuse to fry color far.

But IT tasted good. Some steam vegetable les. And then my missing lenise with some salt and vinegar chips that i'm sure I took from the cafeteria on my way out.

And then for dinner, I think pretty much all of us, success and ability together. He was a genomic CS. We had a turkey burger.

Well, I don't know, just just might have been there actually turkey burger with sweet potato fries. We're going into the end on saturday. I was gna go early, long run.

But then there is a lightning storm. So I, like, had to hala bao with maple butter. I was thinking, this is great fuel. And then the run ended up being three miles because there was lightning, and I gave up.

So after the run, I had the other half of the bao was being a butter and an apple lunch I made for everyone at home. We all had eggs, toast and string cheese. This is a very, not the string cheese particularly, but making eggs for everybody for anthon saturday is pretty common because our fridges usually kind of empty.

But I know everyone will eat that. I will do like egg ages, whatever dinner. We got pizz delivered, and I got a spinach and recover a version for myself and josh, and then mushroom for the kids because of what they wanted.

And then we had salad from the pizer place. My miss lenise was some chatter crackers like those kids want, like I totally pull for my kid's nacks. And then Jenny's lemon ice cream, which was delicious.

And then sunday we're at the end. I had a seventeen mile long run, so I did get the run done. That day I had my pro n grams.

And then during the run I had four jees, cos i'm very good at taking jewels during my long runs. And then I had oatmeal and peano butter and dried Cherry. After my run, I usually even not like overheated on my runs.

I weirdly get cold after, and then I want something hot. So there you go. Once we went to trader joes altogether, this day we picked out everything pumpkin and we came home and had IT for watch super fund.

It's like an annual van we I was doing early october because that's when they have the peak of their pumpkin stuff. And we had pumpkin summonses. Pumpkin ravioli, had pumpkin filling in IT. I did have some left to our salad from the pizza from the night before and some grapes, but I was very fun.

And then I made a note that I ate some cate's cheese before heading to trader joes, which makes sense because if I had run seventy miles and and was getting lunch, I was probably starring. I also ate some mixed metal nuts from trader joes that are very addicting. And then for dinner I made a very easy, like posted with sausage and but not squash, although i'm just gonna put aside.

Note that I made this because we supposed to have some salad with beef, and I open the package of the beef. And IT was the worst small I ve ever small in my life. Not like, okay, wow, that happens.

So theoretically, ally, I was onna return IT. But then I never got around to actually doing that. I still could go and um yeah so I had to.

Make last cessile, I guess. Um yeah so you wind up cooking like on weekends, then I mean, either you ordered the pizza one night and .

then I tend to cook on weekends. And are any cooks during the week? This was like a less leftovers dinner than usually usually like, well, when we do practice is not always with leftovers, but when I don't do practice often were making like one thing for monday and tuesday, one thing for thursday one's and thursday.

The practice dinners tend be super, super simple, like like there are just sort of not take terribly much time, so they worked to just do each night and then actually aren't any is very fishing. And he will often do everything on monday and then let you done cooking up for the week. Just funny, because I feel like I would fail to do that. Others he has all day, and I do not.

So there you go. And as you had a lot of false flavors and know .

there are lot of apples, there was pumpin, lot of all flavors, lots of carbs, because I run a lot of miles. I think that was like a probably mid fifty miles week. And Peter jos, and starbucks, I should buy stock, but maybe I have stock. I don't know the, and like the you so private.

but maybe I am wrong. I hadn't looked IT up. So a starbuck is publicly yeah that's .

ably in my index and I probably indirectly part of that. Yes.

and I turned out to be supporting them a lot.

I'm so excited. I want to hear your week.

Yeah, well, that wasn't dt interesting. I so a few themes for me. I I guess my equivalent of your graham crackers is the pop heart.

So I like the Brown sugar citizen pop tart. They are pretty good. So if I need something really, really quick for a breakfast type thing, I tend to do that.

Of course, i've had always running seventeen miles after eating IT, but monday I had that pop top with coffee for lunch, leftover steak, rice and vegetable. I had cook stake over the weekend, and so I want of eating that for a couple of days snack. I was at starbucks while waiting for my husband be done with a medical appointment, so is having to drive him afterwards.

So I brought my own pin butter crackers. I need a lot of panic batter crackers and then had an old milk lotte, because Sarah told me, get the old milk and he said, kapiti o but I didn't hear the capital parts. I got the latter.

I guess that was okay. I don't know, was fine. But giving to dinners, which I guess is the part that maybe more interesting, mondays are usually passed in night for us.

And I find this is a really good like life hack in general, because if you are kind of typical monday through friday work in school schedule, monday often feels like, og, you just got into IT from the weekend. You shifting years like you get to the end of the day, people are tired, like nobody really wants to be thinking about dinner. So knowing that IT is pasta is helpful, because most people seem to like pasta, so even picky eaters can do IT as they wish.

They could have IT with permis on and butter people who prefer more exciting things on their past and have more exciting things on their pasta. I tend to make doctor up a jar of sauce, like we get rails, rails. How do you say jar of marinas sauce and then mix IT with vegans and cook italian sausage and put IT.

So that is monday night dinner, basically. And i'll throw that out there as an idea. Tuesday was slightly more typical for breakfast. I almost always have two fried eggs .

and coffee when you skip her snack.

Oh, well, there were pressures. And perhaps some gum bears .

are worth mining.

Ores are.

leave out the gummy.

put them hide up on the shelf in the pantry, because they are supposed to be mine. But of course, sometimes people are as tall as I am. Can find .

soler ler .

the case? Maybe I saw someone with that to get me bears at the other day. And i'm like, excuse me, I didn't think those were communal property.

That's very funny and more of the sour patch kid person.

yeah. I mean, they are okay. I like starburst a lot too. I must never buy them, but there's a fun, fun thing. Or you take a one more quick ad break and then I guess i'll be back with the rest of my week.

Well, we are back talking our week of meals. You can just assume that I ate eggs and or a every morning for the rest of this this week, but you lunch often left vers, but i'll talk about the dinner. So tuesday night we've been going back and forth.

And what we do like for a while, we were doing always a chicken and asian sauce and rice kind of deal. And then people started get a little tired of that. So we have been experimenting with different things for tuesday this week.

We wound up doing for he does, which is another meal that most people will eat in summer fashion. We also make cy dias for the children who do not wish to have meat and vegetable on a tortillas, other stuff. But you know that you have your cases, you have freed on the side.

Those of us who eat Normal food will eat the fighters with peppers, onions. We had store about coco I. That's another really easy dinner that tends to be a crowd pleaser. So throwing that out there as another idea of how can customize, I feel like .

that yeah like that for he does IT has a multiple things that are good, which is you can think vary IT pretty easily, like to buy swapping and ingredients. Two b is so customizable and c it's quick. So I actually think like as week night like standards go in your rotation, like we I have not put for he is in there and I am hearing this and I like that makes so much sense, so good, huck. And the times i've like .

had i've making my own Walker lay, which I having done in a long time, but when I know IT takes a lot of time, but IT turns out that some of the delhi prepared walk males from the start, if you get them fresh, they're pretty good. They're not like feeling like this is a sad substitute for what home or restaurant welcomes I would d be there. I actually pretty good.

So, you know, throw that out there as a easy dinner wednesday. Our house manager tends to cook for wednesday night, but we had asked that you do chili as a sort of fall flavors. Welcome to october kind of things. So there was chili going in the slow Cooper all day. We also had corn bread and then avocado on top of the chili.

I think people, I also want to know that you went to starbucks, and I need to know about the outlast to .

strawy about like, what is that? okay? So yes, I not saying everything that I ate, but I seem to have strawberry aside limited refreshers more days than not from starbucks.

And partly that is, my kids really like them. So if they go, they want IT, then I am paying for IT. So I want IT for myself to are, nani often likes to go as well, and, you know, SHE like starbucks too.

And so I sh'll get the kid something during the day and then bring home. So it's like, well, you know, if a straw ry is, I eliminate refreshers just appearing on my desk at three pm, i'm going to a drink IT. So it's great.

I really have a habit of that now, but it's okay. And then the outlets, strawberry bars, I will throw this out. There is another fun little treat for those who maybe don't wish to or can't eat ice cream.

But they're fruit bars. They're frozen fruit bars. Yeah, yes, so yeah. Me, cool, but reasonably good as far as these things go.

Thursday, I did a long run in the mornings side of the pop tip pre eggs post no lunch because my breakfast was like at eleven A M, but dinner was, make your own pizza. This is another frequent thing in our house. So we buy frozen doll, frozen pizza at the grocery store.

A lot of places have this in the freezer case. You can look around for IT. And then you just thought in the fridge, everyone rolls out their own though, and whatever shaped they wish.

So somebody who's excited wants to do a long pizza. Somebody wants to do a secure pizza. Somebody wants to do, when I know multiple little pizzas, they can do that.

And then you put tomato sauce, cheese for people who like that. I don't put the cheese on, I just put topics on. So pep oni, red peppers, again, a lot of red peppers consumed in this house.

Other people have apples, I believe. I started, but did not finish a nationally creek ipa with that pizza. So that was that was Young friday.

Actually not sure I did. I had IT afterwards because that's the night had quiet rehearsal. So I would have had to have had a beer after quiet, not with pizz.

Okay, friday was actually rooth's birthday dinner. So SHE had requested french toast and breakfast for dinner. However, he wanted to make the french toast because he wanted had done as SHE wish.

So we bought a glove of charge type bread. SHE made french toast. I did scrambled eggs and bacon. We had this with fruit. IT was good.

Saturday was my only restaurant meal of the week because I took her and her friends out to a local place for brunch. So that was great. I had a emilet with salmon and tomato stuff.

great. yeah. And then saturday night dinner was we still had some of the girls over, so I just ordered pizza for them in my kids.

And then my husband and I had chicken, refused my chicken wings. But apparently nobody has chicken wings right now. I don't know. We can find them in the girl SHE store.

So we wound up with, like buffalo chicken strips, which is not quite as good, you know, close also apples, not as football food. We were trying to watch probably some game, whatever would have been on thurday, texas A M. I see that with texas A M.

And then finally, i'm almost at the end here on sunday. The only interesting thing here is that for lunch, I had made myself of meal with apples and pea butter. This is another quick meal.

If anyone is looking for something, you can do quick cooking odds that literally cooks them like three minutes. Do one part to two parts water, boil IT together. And then I put in peanut butters and apples.

Did you know, did you cook the apples in there?

I did not cooking the public crunchy. I want some OK text.

I have cooked apples in all meal, but beware that you have to use less water if you do that or IT turns all the water comes out. And then I made like super accident, the accident. But IT does turn them into like apple pie, like apple. So yeah.

well, that's true that well, there wasn't any sugar in the open. So i'm doing the apples as kind of sweetness. And then the peanut butter as peanut order has peanut tterbusch. Other people might add omen or something to make IT cranky. That would be good too.

And then we wanted of doing for he is again, because, you know, if I was good on tuesday, why not on sunday as well? But we often do hamburgers and hot dogs on sunday. We just didn't at night.

So I don't know themes. I am apparently an excEllent starbucks customer. I like repeated meals like probably every week you'll be passed on monday. A lot of weeks there's and make your own peace tonight. A lot of weeks there is something for you to related. A lot of weeks there is breakfast for dinner, but you know it's good and I do want up starting and not finishing necessarily a craft beer a number of night. If anyone has recommendations for a favorite craft beer, I would be open to suggestions.

I think we all eat the same things all the time. I ve ve learned that for my job because like we have to look at like logs from like our patients. Sometimes, especially there are they're just diagnosed the divis, they're just starting on until and you actually see go right down what they eat, how much insurance you can help them and like troubles like, hey, you gave way too much and for that meal and you just quickly notice and is actually relief to the families because like you have to learn an account, all the stuff, but like maybe kids especially, but I think everyone just has their standards. And as I wrote this, I am like you, especially breakfast of lunch.

I mean, just like history repeating itself, but that's okay as long you like IT and then what lawry pointed out about how like they had gone sick of the asian like rice dish. I like the idea of like, you know like every few months or every season or when something is old, you can then start to like swap things out. But who cares if it's otherwise repetitive as long as it's of enough variety that you're getting your nutrient that you need yeah and well.

sometimes people like what I like to have different things. Well, so do I. But that's how wednesday, if you're outsourcing dinner, that can be a different thing every time. If somebody like has a take out night once a week, that could be different every week.

And that's how you could get variety and then you know you can cook something new or different or exciting on the weekends if you wanted, and that would still be like three nights a week of variety. And then the other four don't think about that. I mean, I feel like people can talk themselves into these either or things that are just not that helpful.

I don't know. I thought to find that people are really judgmental about what other people eat, I guess, because IT is such a universal human experience. I was, you know, i'm back online and back on social media, and I was on instagram, and some woman was talking about her machain cheese night with her family.

And you know, I think he bought IT sounded like a fun thing, like people have macchiato and some people 不 put other things in IT and some don't。 And whatever you have mack cheese with, we have mack cheese. Like for the kids a lot and but people are just like you're feeding your children poisoning. It's just like why like why do people spend their precious time on this planet worried that some other family is eating mac and cheese like I don't know and strikes me as waste of effort yeah.

definitely a waste effort. I mean, I IT is true like food invite judgment like if you if you see, i'm sure someone listen to us right now was like you or like, oh my god, they go to chain stores and they are not like there were farmer starts yeah we didn't go the farmers market every day and but at the same time it's just so individual and maybe I should check myself if I saw somebody y's food and thought something negative about IT to make sure it's like, you know what this is one area we're like. We can do us mean, I think there are sustainability arguments to to be made well.

you know and maybe you feel Better if you eat more fruits and veggies but tend to thrown in. Most of the stuff probably could be Better about eating fruit earlier on the day, but do generally eat at a dinner vegetable with dinner. So yeah.

plus for saying a political l in this episode .

and maybe their strawberries in the straw ries. I don't think so, right? So on to the q and a.

We're going food theme here, this listener rights. What are your favorite? Go to recipe sources.

So I mentioned practice, but cook book wise. We haven't called dinner illustrated that includes from america's test coaching and came out maybe a decade ago. And IT is like my rider.

I cook book like IT just IT has everything. I could be fine actually, if IT was my only cookbook there so many things, we make them there over and over again. So that's playing my favor.

And then I usually have like a few others that are out, but I have a stack of cookbooks by the toaster of them that I can just like look at if i'm in middle in the mood to just like figure out dinner for the week from a coke book or something. And so I really like dinner in one by mole clerk, because everything has one dish. So it's like easy and doesn't take up a lot of dishwashing efforts.

We had a guest name, clear tanzi, who has ever called dinner uncomplicated. I still use that book quite a bit. actually. There are some rusk es in there, the kids really like.

And then online, I just renta google stuff all the time, just like search for whatever the thing is and and see what looks good. But the sources that seem to come up a lot, or simply recipes, often has winners. And then how sweet eats is another, we have a lot of salads and dinner rupees is funny, because I think SHE started as like a desert person. But I never use those recipes, but I use her like stable typhoid.

Yeah, I was just gna quick mention. I mean, with obviously dinner creates dishes. Eating creates dishes.

We have a new routine in our house that we are trying out where each child has a night were they do dishes and IT goes in each order to monday, jasper, tuesday, sam, so forth. So theoretically, friday is hemery. I'm not sure that's really ever going to happen, but he can help look the dishwasher.

But you know, the idea is that if IT was rotating, if I was like shifting week to week, we would never remember IT. So we're just onna say, this night and so far, you know, it's been okay. The older children at least are doing that. And then I think alex does IT with help and reminder, I know and arguing that they have .

a sports practice during that time so they like can't do IT or you.

So far, that hasn't really come up great IT may, but then I guess we could swap. But IT hasn't really happened yet. So we don't actually really use cook books in our family that much. I mean, we have some somebody recipe are online.

He says we have a few old recipes from family things in such that are printed up for hand, copied and all that, but because we are eating relatively similar things on the nights that I am cooking, it's not going to be something i'd be looking at a recipe for. And even when I do something different, so you know like can I get credit fried salmon over this past weekend, like I cook salmon and Green beans. And but all i'm doing is like putting a piece of salmon in the event, like I just put olive oil and limit and salt on IT and in Green beans they just cook with oil and salt.

And I did a side dish of this doll from, like, the mental dish from the supermarket. Uh, you just heated up so that was the side. Like you don't need a cook book for that.

It's all very simple, like fit. So there's no reason to make IT more complicated than that is. I guess that might take away on eating in general. So I don't have a writer. I cook book, just not my thing at the moment.

I think sometimes the complicated park can actually read backfire with kids like you're like I wish I just made this really simple that's actually like what I like about my rider. Di coke box is like everything very basic and IT. But um I know you're saying like sometimes .

think and I mean I kind of feel like this too. Sometimes people unnecessarily complicate things with you know it's like if you have your crowd pleasing meals and they are reasonably baLanced, you may as well do that like taking the easy way out. So what like the easy way is probably the Better way in this case versus the kids, not you're creating food waste and all that. Some anyway, just i'll get off my super box again, sir. What is your love of the week I am going to .

go with these maple leave sandwich cookies that I have a funny story about, which is that we got on trade those and we love them and that my husband came home with a box of similarly looking cookies from fresh market that I think really twice the Price with a fancy box when we opened IT up. They're clearly, clearly the same cookies like there's some factory turning IT out and they're put in the trader jose box on IT and selling IT for like three forty nine and then the fresh market box in selling for seven dollars. They're delicious either way, but I suggest check out your local T J.

S for that option. Yeah, yeah. Now chat just is good. That way in kasha have do some shopping there. The kirkland's as cheap and often very good.

I bet they have them too.

Yeah, probably. I also say maybe pop tarts, pop arts can be my love of the week. They're good.

What can I say? Go well with coffee. If he needs quick sugar before getting out and running. I can burn that out there as an idea.

So anyway, what we've been talking a week of meals, we'd love to hear what you are eating these days. You're staple meals, what your crowd will consume happily.
