Welcome in to the CHGO Bears podcast, a practice recap edition of
Adam Hogue, Mark Carman here with you. We'll be joined by Greg Bragg shortly. Got Steven producing. And Carmen and I just got back from House Hall where we watched a practice. We heard some press conferences. And there's a lot to get to on this show. Do want to tell you about a special going on right now. We're bringing it back.
And if you didn't take advantage of it last time, now is the time to do this. I think this is going to be a short one, but we're kicking off summer with the intro offer of just $36 for the CHGO Die Hard membership. You automatically get a t-shirt of your choice when you sign up. And this, of course, usually costs $80. So we're bringing it down to $36 for you. And that's $3 a month. Great deal. Get it now. Get all of our Die Hard content. And...
discounts on merch and our events. You get 50, $50 off our upcoming golf tournament, which is next weekend. We'll tell you more about that coming up as well. Carm, how you doing? Adam, I'm doing great. And I think it's important that everybody knows that I'm actually in the Hogue house and I have rearranged some of the decorations. So you can see
behind me was the hoagie license plate, which is very cool. 0 : Oh yeah. That was my dad's 3 : That is that's that's awesome. Yeah. I thought today was one of the, I think it was the most interesting day in bears OTA history for me that not, so not, not, not so much the odd field, which wasn't plenty interesting.
But Ben Johnson's press conference, Caleb just coming right on up there. And I know we're going to play a bunch of this, just jumping right in and really being, I think, pretty damn transparent, at least about a lot of it. So it was a super interesting day. And then everybody's favorite dad got up there, Case Keenum, and talked, which I know we'll get into that as well.
I hadn't seen case Keenum and I didn't know that he reminded me of, of, I mean, he major dad vibes before he even started talking. And somebody said something like, I know it looked like your dad or something about dads. Case Keenum is, is he's our bear's dad from, from, from this point going forward, as long as he's here. Bear's dad. Okay. Bear's dad. I like that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There was a, there was a lot going on today and there's, there's a lot to get to and I'm excited about it. I think karma is threatened by case Keenum. We'll talk about that. I am. Yeah. Yeah.
But as we like to do, regardless of what the news is, and we are going to jump into this Caleb Williams press conference and play the opening statement for you here momentarily. But when we watch a practice, we come back from it. We always like to tell you the best and worst from the day. It might actually has to do with press conference. I was sitting there and I leaned over to Herb Howard, who I was sitting next to today after
after the case Keenum press conference. So it went Ben Johnson, Kayla Williams, case Keenum, and then Montez sweat. And in between the Keenum and Montez sweat pressers, I,
I said to him, I think it's the best three press conferences I've ever witnessed in a row. Like maybe there's been a better press conference, but to have three bam, bam, bam in a row inspires some confidence. I think in things going on inside that building will expand on that thought in a second. And then my worst is I got to call myself out.
my wardrobe was horrendous at practice today. We had, we had, I mean, you guys were correctly calling me Marty McFly. I wear this vest.
pretty much all the time. It's good because you can squish it up, pack it in tight spaces. You can wear it under sweatshirts so they don't even know it's there. I wear it on the sidelines at Carmel all the time. It keeps you super warm. But I walked outside thinking we were going to be in the Walter Payton Center today because it was raining all morning. And I walk outside and I'm like,
Oh, the rain stopped. We might be outside. And so I grabbed an extra layer that happens to be not the most flattering color of yellow as my windbreaker. And I threw that on. So I had that going on double hoodie action with the vest on top of it. It just looked horrible. That was by far the worst thing on the practice field today.
Well, it was fairly humorous that me, Clay Harbor and Matt Verteram all said in unison, what do you think you're you're you're in Back to the Future, buddy? You're Marty McFly. I mean, it was no, we didn't talk about that before you showed up. We just all looked at you and then that was the reaction. So, you know, you know, you you you you you you were struggling. There's no doubt about it.
All right. Best and worst for me. But I was warmer than you were. And that's what matters. That's true. I was cold again. You, you, you, you looked very comfortable and I was, I was a little, I was a little chilly out there today, but I tough through it. Cause I am,
just one of the tougher media guys you'll ever meet. My, my best room today outside of Caleb's actual talking was there, there was one moment where I was reminded very distinctly why he was the number one overall pick in the NFL draft, because he was re he was rolling to his left and he threw an absolute missile down the left sidelines to who's 80 Boykin Boykin. Yeah. So it was,
I don't know, 40 yards, 45 yards, whatever it was, it was a total P and it's like, Oh, that level of talent is why he's had this level of success that he's had. And obviously the bears are trying to, uh,
meld that into a great NFL quarterback. But it's like, oh, he if he ever does figure it out, if there's so much going on there that it's just it's exciting when you when you see it in person like that and just do whatever on TV, too. It was just an absolute missile. Like, oh, no, there it is. That's why it was the number one pick. So I enjoyed that moment in the day. And then my worst moment was
You know, I had prime position. I had a great, great, like I was up against the TV or the camera thing. I was like basically the 50-yard line today. And they're snapping it at about the 20, the 30. And Tyler Scott just burst by me right down the right field, right sideline. And he is wide open. And it's one of the Bajan reps. And I'm like, oh, this is it. This is the time for him to show the arm strength. This is the moment. He's going to hit my guy, Tyler Scott. And everything's going to come perfect calm right now.
And Bajan waited and then he waited a little bit more and then he threw it and it was miserably underthrown. And Bajan slumped afterwards. He knew he had missed it. And I slumped, too. And everybody else. It was just it was a blow of a moment where there was a great opportunity for my guy to shine. Another one of my guys to shine. It just didn't happen. So that that was that was disappointing.
0 : Yeah. You know, a guy is open when even Pat Finley, who was standing next to me, it was like, he's got him. 5 : Finley catching strays. I thought it was one of better Finley's better press coverage today. That was a good Finley. He was in there. 0 : Oh, Philly had a great day, big day. And by the way, he was dressed way better than me.
I don't know if he was dressed for a practice, but he was looking nice. He had some nice shoes on and a nice, like, he was dressed like he was in London or something. It was a very competitive press conference today. I did not do a good job. Hogue, you got in there. Johns got in there. Fishbane got in there. Carm, I had to wait for Case Keenum to get in there for me to finally get up. But Finley, like, somehow he just, like, sits back in his seat and, like,
casually throws out a question and the whole room just stops because like there's, I don't know how he does it. I got to study his, his methodology because I got shot down a million times today. It was, it was rough. All right, well, let's get to those press conferences. We are going to start with Caleb Williams, who we honestly going into today, didn't even know was going to be talking, um, get there. He's on the board. It's one of the guys talking. It was going to be interesting to see how it was handled. Um,
There were a couple of different ways you could handle this. I was on record last week of saying, I thought it would be smart for him to attack this head on and address, not shy away from questions, answer it truthfully and honestly, because I think most of us are in agreement, whatever concerns he had were valid and hopefully have changed for the better here. So yeah,
Then there were some other people that were like, you know what? You don't have to address it. Just say, Hey, I'm moving on to the future. I don't want to talk about everything that happened in the past. We got something good going here and you could have done that. Well, he didn't go that way. He walked up there.
Without even taking a question, delivered a long opening statement, and then took every question head on from that point on. I thought he did a really good job with it. We are going to play that entire opening statement for you right now so you can hear it in case you missed it or see it. And here that is, Caleb Williams' opening statement today at House Hall. What everybody would love to ask about is...
this whole storm that happened, it wasn't something that
We know we want it to happen at this point. We're focused on the present. We're focused on now. We're focused on trying to get this ship moving in the right direction. And I think so far that's what we've been doing. But for this to come out, it's been a distraction. So coming up here and talking about it and addressing it is important today. And so that's what we're here to do. Next is-- all that went down, all that was said, yeah, I had a good visit at the other place.
Minnesota with Kevin O'Connell, good staff and all of that. Obviously, he just won Coach of the Year award and things like that. So obviously good staff and things like that. But something that keeps getting lost, something that keeps getting, I think, not being addressed the way it needs to be is the fact that
You know, I went on that visit first, came here, and then after I came here, it was a-- I went back home, talked to my dad, and, you know, all of the things that--
were supposed to be these big things that everybody's been talking about recently. One never happened in the sense of they were all thoughts. They were all ideas. And I think if you're in the situation, I think if your son or daughter, anybody who's in the situation to be in that position, I think you think about all of the options and you look at the history and the facts and all these different things.
And, you know, those are thoughts that go throughout your head in those situations. So, you know, all of those are thoughts. And then after I came on my visit here, it was a deliberate answer and deliberate and determined answer that I had is that I wanted to come here. And just like Ben spoke about, obviously, you know, the past years, as everybody knows, it's a fact that, you know,
quarterback play, there hasn't been a 4,000-yard passer. There's all these different things that come up. And so being able to have those thoughts is, I think, fair to be able to have good and bad thoughts. But like I said, I came here on a visit. And like I said, just like Ben said, it's a challenge.
to be able to come in here and try and turn around. And that was the main goal of all of that, is to, you know, through all of, you know, what was going on, through all of what happened in, you know, last year and previous years, you know, I think that was...
I think that was something that was glaring to me that, you know, I wanted to come here and, you know, be the guy and be a part and be a reason on why, you know, Chicago Bears turned this thing around. So that last thing that was said and all of that I think was the most important thing is that I wanted to be here. I love being here. I love my teammates. You know, I love all the people that got me here, family, friends, Ryan, Kevin, you know,
you know, uh, floos and, and Shane, all those guys that, you know, went through that, all of that process with me, uh, to get me here. Um, but it was a, it was a, um, you know, all those things, like I said, were thoughts. Um, but the main goal and the main, um,
objective of being here is to turn around. That's why I was selected number one. And so, you know, that's what we're here to do. That's what they brought, you know, me here to do. That's what they brought all these guys here to do. Joe, DJ, all these different guys. And that's why they brought Ben here. And so, like I said, it's a challenge. And we look at those challenges and, you know, we, you know, we don't laugh. We look at them really, really seriously. And, you know, we go attack them, you know, to the best of our ability to go and change and turn around. So, yeah. Kevin, last question.
So we got we'll have more coming from Caleb, too. But, you know, that's like a four minute opening statement when usually these press conferences go like 10 to even start with a couple of takeaways. Like, again, I've seen I think I brought it up on the show a few weeks ago when the Anaheim Ducks hired Joel Quinville and Quinville got up there with.
a prepared statement written down, had his head down and read off the thing the entire time. Now there's a much different situation. I understand, but I criticize that in the moment because it just, regardless of what you're saying or what the controversy is, it doesn't come off as genuine when you do that. So shout out to Kayla Williams for coming up there. He wasn't reading off any sheet. I don't know if it was the,
you know, an A plus opening statement, but it was pretty damn good. And I think the press conference as a whole only got better from that point on too, as he took questions head on. Also, Carm, my big, a couple of big takeaways from this in terms of how this all played out.
I got the sense, I don't know if you agree with me, I got the sense that they were somewhat blindsided by this ESPN story coming out. Because remember, this book is not coming out until September. And you can question even having these conversations with an author, as some have, because
But I don't think anybody was really prepared that this was also just going to come out in like a new story, teasing this upcoming book and creating the storm that it did. And I also have a feeling I don't know this, obviously. It's why I asked the follow up question to kill later that we're going to hear when this does come out. Is it going to be a controversy again?
My guess is the way this is written, whatever's in this chapter does a better job of the overall context that Kayla was trying to get across there in the opening statement. Yes, I like my visit to Minnesota.
And there was a moment where I was really tempted to go there. But after I visited the bears and came through Hallas hall, I ultimately made that choice to embrace the opportunity, embrace the challenges that were going to come with being the quarterback of the Chicago bears. And I think if you sit down and probably read this chapter from start to finish the context of all of it will probably come off a lot better than it did in the story that ESPN put out, basically promoting this book. And again,
Hopefully that's the case, but I think addressing it today was a really good job. Really good idea. I think he handled it well overall. And as we've been saying, I do think we can now move on from this. It's not going to go away completely. There's always going to be some references to it here and there. It's always going to be part of his story, which is why it is still a story today, but handled very, very well by Caleb Williams today, in my opinion. Yeah, he, listen, he's not a media pro.
Neither am I, for the record. I'm just here hanging out. But the ums and the ahs and all that stuff, and he's meandering his way through the statement. It's not easy to do. He could have boiled that down, what he said, to, I don't know, 30 seconds, 45 seconds. Yes, I had thoughts about going elsewhere. No, I didn't act on those thoughts. I'm here now. My dad's a huge advocate for me. I was impressed with what I found in Minnesota. But ultimately, when I came to Chicago, I decided that I wanted to
Put as big of a challenge on my back as possible so I could say that I climbed that mountain and be proud of myself at the end of the day. Something along those lines. But what's interesting to me, and I know we got a ton to do here and we'll give our first people in here who are helping make all this possible. But one, like the Minnesota thing caught me off guard that he addressed that head on. And try to think back about it. The Vikings had the 10th pick.
So I'm confused as to how he thought he was going to get to Minnesota. This is a guy that wanted to go number one overall. Did he think that the Bears would trade with Minnesota to move up? I mean, that's crazy to me. So I'm just kind of, I'm trying to understand how, like the Minnesota thing, even why it was even worth for him to take a visit there. But yeah, obviously he had a great visit. So that was confusing to me. But end of the day,
I just appreciated his honesty or his attempts at trying to be transparent there. I mean, there's like, I can nitpick it a million times over. Some are good thoughts, some are bad thoughts. They're all good thoughts, man. You had good thoughts. There's nothing wrong with any of your thoughts. Yeah. There's nothing, there was nothing negative there at all. You did what you should have been doing. So I got good on Caleb for getting up there and not even taking a question and just addressing it the way he did. Yeah. Yeah.
The Minnesota thing always is interesting when you really break it down, like how he thought that was going to go down, but that was really the nuclear option that was discussed. Like, do you basically force yourself, force a trade to the place you want to go, as has happened in other cases in the past, and ultimately it did come to that. But regardless, that was like the new news. I know there's been a lot of people being out there like, there's nothing new in this. Well, that actually is very...
knew that he was he wanted to go to a division rival of all places um but again totally understandable when you compare the two situations and i think that that's why it was um
Again, well handled by him to address it head on and move on, which is what we're going to do. We're going to take a break here. I got a couple more clips, a couple of the relevant things, including the whole watching the film thing, because I thought he explained that well. Before we bring him in, though, and get his reaction, I just want to share a couple more clips from Caleb Williams that we think are relevant to the conversation. So let's bring up the watching video.
film thing that was a big controversy in all of this too because that was just one of those things and I said this a couple times on the show like there's got to be more to that story like it's not like they were just letting him sit there and never watch film so that was one of the things I figured would be addressed in more detail in the book Caleb took care of that himself today I think it was Courtney Cronin asking the line of questioning on that topic and here's what Caleb had to say that was a funny one that came out it wasn't it wasn't that
I didn't know how to watch film. It was more or less the sense of learning shortcuts in the sense of, or not learning shortcuts, but learning ways to watch film and be more efficient, learning ways to pick up things better. And so that was a funny one that came out that...
you know, in context and how I was trying to portray it didn't get portrayed that way. So it wasn't that I didn't know how to watch it. I was trying to figure out the best ways and more efficient ways so I can watch more film. I can gather more information so that when I do go out there on game day that it's, you know, I'm, you know, that information I gathered through Monday when we got back, you know, all the way up to, you know, whatever day the game day is.
So when I get out there, I can gather it. You know, I see it. I can react. And it's not me sitting there thinking so much about, you know, the rules and these different things. It's more of a reaction game at that point in muscle memory. So, yeah, it's not that he didn't know how to watch film. It's that you got to learn the tricks of the trade once you get to the professional level that you're in. There was a stunning revelation from his keynote today who said that when he came out of Houston,
Their air raid offense that they ran, he didn't know you could flip the plays based on what hash you were on. Herb Howard looked, we looked at each other like, what? Like, you hit the button in Madden to flip the play. But the point he was making was just that what rookies you don't, you don't know what you don't know.
And so some of this stuff you just have to learn from experience. Case Keenum said that. That blew my mind, but it just shows you how simplistic some are. And by the way, that's not necessarily simplistic. It's not the right way to put it, but just there's certain things that you come up doing that you're just not used to doing. You get to the NFL, we have to do everything. Yeah, I actually heard that in a different way.
Yes, we know that you know how to put on the film, take the CD that the Bears give you or whatever, hit download and watch it. But you don't actually know how to watch the film. You're still figuring out what's the best way to do this. And it was a failing of the Bears to not give him more assistance so he could actually use his time in an efficient manner that he's talking about. So,
I mean, I like that he tried to, you know, sort of laughed it off and whatnot. Like, yes, I know how to watch film. Like, yeah, we get it. Like, I know that you know how to put it on, but you're trying to do it in a way that it really helps you versus just saying that you sat there and watched the film. He needed more help. The Bears let him down. He's minimizing it, which is fine. I get it. Like, you don't want to keep on. What are you going to do? Lean in and say, yeah, you know, I just wasn't getting the help I needed. That's a real tough place to go. But.
He didn't know what he was doing and case Keenum to your point. Oh, it was like, you know, that's, that's a rookie. They don't, this is a learning curve here, man. This is not easy what they're doing. So he needed more help. They didn't support him. Well, period. End of story. All right. Finally,
I managed to get a question in, like Karn said, a very competitive press conference. I wanted to ask him, Hey, look, man, this, this book is expected to come out the day after the bears opener against the Vikings on Monday night football. Um,
Is it going to be a distraction again is essentially the line of question. I think my question is actually in here. So I'll just tee it up. Here's how Caleb addressed that. When it comes to the timing of the book, I believe it comes out the day after the opener. Are you worried that it's going to be a distraction again? Are you confident that most of this is already out?
That's why I came up here today to address this and actually speak on some of the things that were at this moment out of context and also some of the things that I want to clarify, like what we just spoke about in the watching film and things like that. Obviously, my information that I know now was not the same as last year, whether it's fronts, defenses, blitzes, whether it's offense and things like that. And that's something that...
Over the years and over time, I mean, speaking of like Case, you know, he comes in here and he's been in many different offenses and things like that, many different teams and all of this. So when he comes in here and he hears something, it may be a different name, but it's the same exact thing. So that sort of thing is kind of, you know, on a steady trend longer than I play. All right, so let's do this. Let's bring in our guy Greg Braggs Jr. to help us take the temp on this game.
you know, story that continues to roll on here. It's taking the temp presented by your trusted local experts at four seasons, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and electric visit four seasons, heating, cooling.com for all their special offers and money saving coupons. That's four seasons, heating, cooling,
Greg, I know a lot to react to here as you consumed and helped us push all this stuff out today on our socials and at CHGO. What's your reaction and just your overall temperature on how hot of an issue is this going to continue to be or is it going to cool off? I would imagine today should be the last day where this is talked about, at least in terms of what was brought out from the book.
I I'm glad that it was asked from Courtney Cronin about the film thing. Cause to me, that's the only thing that really holds true relevance moving forward is, you know, how he's, you know, you know, learning the film, how he's able to, you know, process that and how Ben Johnson can help him get better with that. And, and I think that I'd love to hear that next week.
And as the season progresses, how is that maturation process with studying the film working? And then I think my next takeaway, as Caleb said in that clip, he keeps bringing up Case Keenum. Ben Johnson brings up Case. We got to hear from Case Keenum today, who said he was thinking about being done with football. And now he comes back to the Bears, motivated by what he's seeing here at House Hall.
I just love the room that they're surrounding Caleb Williams with, you know, from Ben Johnson all the way down with this coaching staff, Antoine Randall L Declan Doyle, I think is somebody that's somewhat of an unknown of what he can bring to the table. You know, but then you see here with case Keenum, a guy that had a lot of success in college and has able to, you know, continue to have an NFL career. It's not easy to stay in the NFL. I don't care who you are.
So I think he's somebody that's going to help, you know, insulate Caleb into a healthier room here next year. So, you know, I know fans are done with it, but I'm glad that Caleb, you know, talked about, Hey, this was a learning experience for me and our team, because let's face it, the books coming out.
And that's why the quotes were put out to like, you know, garner interest in this book. But he gave those quotes to Seth Wickersham. His dad gave those quotes to Seth Wickersham. So he helped Seth sell this book in essence. So I think he was surprised by the timing of the release of these quotes, but
So I'm sure he was a little frustrated. Like a lot of this stuff was pre-draft. Maybe that's when he thought some of this stuff would come out. But then obviously the, with the film and the Waldron stuff, he's obviously talked to him more recently. So I'm glad he, you know, took accountability when it came to that and addressed everything head on. I thought he, I thought he handled things with eloquence. I mean, to be quite frank,
to be asked, does your dad speak for you? I thought was a pretty sharp question and for me a little bit condescending. I personally wouldn't like somebody saying they speak for me and it reminded me a lot of the Combine.
when he was asked, are you afraid to compete at the combine? And I thought he handled that moment with grace. And I thought he handled today's with grace where he kind of laughed that off. So, you know, he shows moments where he's able to show his composure. And obviously all I care about is the composure on the football field, but these are the things that we're talking about today. Just, just one thing for me on it. I think the story is going to die.
unless there's something in that chapter, that's super interesting, then it won't be dead. And they are playing Minnesota week one. So the chance of the broadcast bringing that back is probably pretty damn high. So, but if there's nothing else, I don't think that's a coincidence at all. Probably not. If I remember, if I remember right, the order of this, we had our schedule release show Wednesday, and then this thing broke Thursday.
Right after they put bears Vikings on Monday night football. Now that might be me going into this conspiracy theory world, but I don't know. It's an ESPN game. It's an ESPN story. It's an ESPN reporter. Like, yeah, I don't know. Well, I'm surprised that I didn't realize you knew it was going to be the day after the Vikings game. That's that it's not like three days before.
Well, if you go to Seth Wickersham's Twitter profile, this is next level investigative reporting by me, by the way. He's got a pinned tweet up there on his profile saying, hey, I got this book coming out, and it comes out on 9-9. So unless that's changed, 9-9 is the day after 9-8, and 9-8 is the day the Bears play the fight.
Vikings on Monday night football. So I can promise you if the bears went on, on Sunday, at least for bears fans, when it comes to the book, we'll be spending victory Monday talking about a big bears win. Take that Kevin O'Connell. So very quickly, then we'll break. Are you buying Caleb Williams down playing? There's not going to be much else in that book. Cause I thought he did a great job. I thought he handled that question well and did a good job of like, no, no, no. That's why I'm getting out ahead of it now.
Speaker 3 : No, you're not buying it. Speaker 1 : No, no, no. Cause bears fans. We love you dearly. You know that there's going to be something in there that perhaps might not be that big of a deal, but will be considered a big deal. And maybe that'll be my fault. And then I'll have to, you'll all hate me for it, but there's going to be something in that paragraph. You can't tell me there's nothing in there that we're not going to be talking about. No chance.
Greg? Yeah, I would like to think that, you know, the quotes that were put out were the most salacious ones. And obviously this book isn't just about Caleb Williams. It's about, you know, other quarterbacks as well. So, you know, my hope is that we don't have anything else that we have to deal with. But, you know, I'm sure there's going to be other, you know,
revelations to come. But as I said, if the bears are one to know, you're going to be hard pressed for me to care about what's in there. Now they're all in one. It's just going to add to the stress levels. But I am once the get the season starts, I'm worried about the games and who do they play the next week? That's where I'm going to give you three numbers here as a response to my own question, three 53 and 30. Okay.
Monday night, 350 total yards, three touchdowns, 30 points. No one will give a crap about what's in that book the next day, at least not in Chicago.
That's the other way. Well, it's funny how that works, but Hey, it's all a lot of fans here in the chat are saying the same thing. Like it's put up or shut up time. And I think we can all agree that hopefully we can just worry about football and the football goes well, which we are going to talk about what happened in practice. I don't even know how to read. So I'm fine. Way to go. Great point.
You know, they should really start teaching kids, young kids these days. Don't even learn how to read. Then you could just protect yourself from all the bad things that are out there. Like when your quarterback says things to an author, you got, we started having conversations like that. It just puts how stupid some of this stuff is in the context of the world.
Listen, you don't need to read anymore. Chat GPT is going to do it all for you. Just hang out. And I know we have to take a break, so we will. But that would be my final point. I'm sorry, Steven. But when you talk about all the things going on in the world, I was kind of having a debate about the cycle of how media works within coverage from the team, allowance of coverage and the media and the sponsorship to the coverage and the audience and the fans consuming that. And somebody said, well, if it bleeds, it leads, right?
And that I think holds more true to like political or world news or local news media, but with sports, uh,
The better your team is, the more championships you win, the more Hall of Famers you get to cover, the more money that is made by sports media outlets like this. A bad team that lose 10 games in a row. How many people were sick of our postgame shows by December last year? There's nothing better than 10 wins in a row. Yeah, Adam was one, but there was many others. So, you know, that's not how it works in sports. If the team is bad, you got to cover it.
The worst thing you can be is boring. And the bears are never boring, but trust me, any sports team, the better you are, the more, the better it is for everybody, media and fans included. So, you know, I, you know, I'll always push back on anybody that thinks that the media wants it to be bad because of
negative attention. I couldn't be further from the truth in my opinion. Well, and I think I speak for everybody at CHO and all city that if any point in time, one of the teams in Chicago would like to make the playoffs. We would greatly appreciate that. It's on you Cubs. Let's go Cubs.
It's on you, Cubs. I'll even say let's go, Cubs, for that. All right, here we go. Let's take a quick break. the right app is just taking care of it. It's incredible. Well, when we're in bed tonight and, and, and, and the lovely Jackie, that'd be me. And, and, and the beautiful Jackie, my, my, my Adam with the vest son earlier that he's going to buy, he's, he's been copying your look. Now he's going to be showing up in a vest here to,
I will be leaving after the show, although we all are going to dinner tonight, which will be lovely. You're leaving? Yes. Didn't I tell you I had to go to Bears practice? No, I don't think you did. No, it's the way it is. All right. It'll be all right. I'll make it up to her. I'll make her a laminated schedule of the season and the practices and everything coming up here. All right. So first time we got to hear from Case Keenum, new Bears number two?
We will, we'll have that conversation here in a second. But before we get to that part of it, look, we all know why case Keenum is mainly here. He is 37 years old. He's been in the league for 13 years. They're not even shying away from Ben Johnson talked about it today. We have rules that the CBA limits us from having contact with players for more than a certain period of time in the day. And,
And Case Keenum, who's already halfway onto the coaching staff, but is still a player, can spend more time with Caleb. And this is another thing that he just didn't have last year. They did not have this presence on the team, on the roster. And Case Keenum is here to have that role with Caleb Williams. And so far, he's been very, very impressed with Caleb Williams. And he talks about that today. You know, watch Caleb from last year and was like,
Holy cow, this guy's really good, and he's got a chance to be a lot better. And it's been great. It's been so much fun coming here and playing and being a part of that quarterback room and an offense and, you know, working with Ben and Dec and JT and Press and,
Obviously, with Caleb and Tyson Austin, those guys in that room, it's just been really special for me. I'm enjoying it. What is the excitement about the early stages of that relationship? He's a sponge. For being an all-world talent, a guy who's obviously...
since high school, you know, been the best player on any field anywhere he's ever stepped on to be humble enough to, like, ask me questions and watch and learn has been really refreshing to see a guy that young and that talented but still, you know, take to me what I have to say. You know, it's been really fun. So...
Look, it's as we always have to say, it's may case. Keenum obviously seems really good at these press conferences. It's probably answer questions like this. He praised Declan Doyle. Who's 10 years younger than him. He praised Ben Johnson. And, and I think right now it certainly is all legit. I do think everything we've been talking about here though, on this show, it all kind of interweaves or intersects at some point. Yeah.
Because at least what I find interesting about some of what we heard in Albert Breer's short little snippet in his story yesterday, what Ben Johnson had to say today, what Caleb had to say today. But hearing from Case Keenum, Case Keenum was like, Caleb's beating me to the facility in the morning. He's a sponge, as he put it there.
There were times last year where, and we talked about this at the time we've talked about in the off season, where I think there were some questions about Caleb getting to the point where he really understood everything that it took to be a really great quarterback in the NFL. Now, again, he it's may, he needs to show it on the field ultimately, but at least from what I think the silver lining of what's come out of this whole book controversy is
I think it's somewhat of a wake up for him, for the organization, for everybody here. And all of last season was too, but it all kind of comes together in that it sure seems like this situation now is
He has everything he needs. He has the weapons. He has the offensive line. He has that coach. He has the offense coordinator. And now he has a case Keenum there to to help in other areas that they're like legally not allowed to help with right now until it's just wide open in training camp. So there there are some silver linings coming out of all of this controversy.
Look, when he got up to the podium today, I looked at him and looked around. I'm like, is that my dad? And my dad, my dad's 99 years old. This is this is this is a veteran. I mean, he just was like grizzled up there. And somebody right before a children's book, by the way, are you my mom? Yeah. Are you my dad? Well, somebody said something about dads that like he heard it right when he stepped up there. And he's like, yeah, no, no dad jokes.
because he's 38 going on 51 up there. And by the way, the ball comes out at about, I don't know, 5.1 miles per hour. He doesn't exactly have a flamethrower anymore going on here. However...
Look, Ben, to me, the most interesting point about the whole thing was that Ben met with him. They were supposed to be for 15 minutes. It turned in like a four-hour conversation. And they do need a quarterback whisperer and somebody that Caleb can rely on. And I do think, by the way, that he's been vaulted up to number two, at least competing for number two, because I think that makes him like that much more
closer with Caleb and maybe just not that there's any Tyson Bajan pressure or anything, but it's just sort of like a buddy, buddy number, like a, like a comfortable two for him where he can, he knows that, that, you know, this guy's not out here trying to become a starter in the NFL. He's just out here to try to help the team in any way, shape that he can. And so I get why he's here, bottom line. And he certainly was very likable listening to him today. Well,
Well, it's a lot like, you know, chase Daniel, right. When he was here under Mitch, you know, a guy that's just a journeyman veteran. That's going to be there for his guy. Been there and done that. Been in a lot of different systems. That certainly helps.
So like I said earlier, just insulating Caleb Williams with a healthy room. You got JT Barrett, who's been around the block. You saw the video we put out on Twitter of them working on, you know, his drop, his footwork, ball security, and then, you know, a little pass over the middle kind of thing in warmups. So, you know, the more...
The more perspective that Caleb Williams can get after a year like last year that he went through, which ultimately I think could help him moving forward as long as this is a big offseason, right? You know, everything that happened last year could end up being, you
for the betterment of his career. He's never had adversity like he had last year in his life. And so I, that's something that can mature you really fast at his age. And so now this off season with these guys around him, trying to get him to dial into the details and help him with the things that he needs to improve on. This is a big, big off season for Caleb Williams to take the next step.
One thing on Caleb along those lines as far as big offseason, I don't know if you thought this yourself today, Hogue, but he looks like he's in better shape. His face looks thinner. I didn't get the question in there. At some point during training camp, I'll try to find out. But it seems to me that his workout regimen has stepped up as well. To me, he looked like a more compact guy
working out dude that's what that's that was my reaction to just his physical being what's going on i'm that's the face that's what i'm that's what i've been working on here for um two months well you were going you were getting fatter and now you're getting and now you're getting thinner i'm getting fatter um so that's it's it's unfortunate but he i thought he had thin face today did it nobody talked i don't know if anybody did you think that at all
No, you are 1000% the only one who had the thought in your head, the thought bubble come up. I think Caleb has thin face today. There's no other human in that room that had that.
Well, there's a lot of people in that room that. Yeah. Robert Lee, great reporting on the thickness of his face, Mark. I'm telling you, Robert Lee's in better shape. This is the type of analysis that you don't get everywhere. He looks better. He's shed the baby fat, man. All right. Well, let's get to the body language conversation because that was a little nugget in Albert Breer's.
piece yesterday and it came up today question with ben johnson um and how he's he's he's working with the does they notice it on film it's not just caleb it's others too um but love this stuff from ben johnson today there's adversity that's going to hit every team every season um you don't know when it's going to happen we might lose a few games we might uh have some turnovers and yet you
just the wherewithal of we're steering the ship, we're going the right direction. It's not woe is me. We are going to take everyone around us, we're going to elevate them, and we're going to look to forge ahead to what's next. And so it's not dwelling on the past. It's not whether it's last season, last play, last game. We learn from it, we grow, and we move on. And so our body language needs to reflect that as well.
Yeah. We don't want to be a palms up team said that that can be a sign of weakness. I love that. I love that stuff. You know, and then there was some follow-up questioning about, you know, did you talk to DJ more about this? Cause that was a huge storyline with DJ more at times last season, including when he just walked off the field in Arizona and sat down on the bench while the play was still going on. And he's like, well, he's addressed it with the entire team. So yeah,
Well, I'm curious to see. It's only been a couple of practices, like how we continue to see that in practices and how we see that show up in games because it's football, man. You're going to get frustrated at times. It's just it's it's just physically, mentally impossible to just have perfect body language all the time. But if it becomes something that they really do work on a lot, then they theoretically should have better body language and other teams.
Body language matters. What also matters is how you are in the moment. And in the moment again today, he stopped practice, Ben Johnson did. And the words were F that, and he did the full word, I'll be...
you know, kids show here, F that huddle up. And, and he also, you know what he's got? He's got the Ben Johnson walk. He's got like the tough guy. When things go wrong, he strolls out at you. And, and, and I mean, I start backing up, you know, a hundred yards away on the sidelines here. He's got, there's a, there's a presence to this Ben Johnson, man. And he's, he's not allowed to, he's not afraid to stop. Let the profanity fly and let's go. He's got, he's got standards. Damn it.
Yeah, well, real quick on that, Greg, before you jump in, just so I can give some context to that moment. Caleb was too slow getting the play call in. Like, he was just too slow in the huddle. And by the time he actually got on the line of scrimmage, he blew the whistle and was like, F that, huddle up. Now, the good news is that was the only time he made them re-huddle today, at least from what I saw. Whereas last week, it was like a handful of times.
including when he yelled at Cole commit. So I did, I did see improvement this week in the pre-snap operation, but there was definitely that one example where, where Johnson was fed up. Well, it's tone setting. And so I love hearing this stuff. It makes me excited for training camp. I know we want to enjoy a summer whenever it gets here. It seems like the warmer weather might come next week for us, but at the same time, I'm, I'm chomping at the bit to get the training camp and see this coaching staff, uh,
you know, do those kinds of things. You got to set the tone early. You got to take this time of the year. I mean, we heard it, you know, Keenan Allen talking about, yeah, we had our questions about Shane Waldron at this very time last year. And that was an oversight, you know, by us, by anybody that's covering the team. It's a little hard this time of year to be able to, you know, read between the lines of those things. But at the same time,
The team was seeing those signs. And so, you know, like you said, Adam, it's May and it's always kind of everything's rose colored glasses in terms of what they're saying. But at the same time, what we're seeing or what you guys are seeing is is accountability. And so the more of that, more of that, because this team lacked that.
Last year, outside of the coaching staff and the flaws of the personnel on the roster, this team lacked accountability. And the more of that, the better off they're going to be. And if you're doing it now and that intensity is coming out now, then I just cannot wait to get to August and see how much that gets ratcheted up. So, you know, Ben was also asked today, like why he does that, why he stops coaching.
It blows his whistle. It makes him re-huddle. And I love the answer. He said, we're not going to allow practice to go south. Yeah, I've experienced that myself. Like when you just, you let something go early on in a period and you, I was talking to J-Mac about that today. You know, it doesn't really matter what level we're talking about. If you give players like a little bit of wiggle room, they're going to take it. And then, and if you give them more, they're going to take that. And it's just going to keep, then it's going to start to snowball. Yeah.
I've experienced it and it happens at the NFL level too. And, and so I think that that just keeps going back to the accountability and setting that tone now and not, not relenting on it at all because it's,
Even if you set that tone now, but you ease up on it later, like it's there's, you can't give them that little room. Cause again, they're going to take it. So I love that quote. We're not going to allow practice to go South. And I don't think it is going to change. This is who Ben is. This is, I mean, I think, was it you Hogan was talking to me today, like watching him during practice that basically like he's got to calm down because he's just,
it's like too intense to go through a season like that, but this is who he is. I think it's pretty obvious that this is not going to be a guy that's going to just going to sit there calmly, watch practice. This is no, this is no Dick to run our IP. You know, and there's nothing, it works for some guys to be like that. That's not who Ben is, Speaker 0 : But this is what this team needs right now.
Like they need this after a 10 game losing streak and all the disarray, maybe in years going forward. And there's more trust built up as far as what this team is. Then you can die to me, dial things back then, but this is what these guys need across the board to learn, to be winners. When we talked to him, I'll continue to bring it up. When we talked to Mitch, hold this about, um,
the Kansas city chiefs and how they go about their business in the summer, how they go about their business at training camp and how they start the season and
That this is what it sounds more like. I haven't been to a Kansas City practice, so I haven't been able to see it firsthand. But I want to hear that the similarities get a little closer to how they're operating. You know, obviously, you know, that's the goal is to be the Kansas City Chiefs. But at the same time, you can practice like them. You can work like them, even if the talent's a little different.
Well, look, I think we're going to have Matt Verteram on tomorrow's show, right, Carm? He was at practice today, and he was telling us a story about how they end every training camp practice with a 20-play, 100-yard drive. And it's 20 plays no matter what happens as a result of the plays. But it's a two-minute drill. So those guys are gassed, and they hate it.
but they still do it every day. And when it shows up in the season, they,
That's why you don't see the Chiefs tired in those moments because they're ready to go and affects both sides of the ball too. So there are standards like that. Maybe we can ask Matt more about that when he joins us. But make sure to come and die hard. You can scan that QR code here on your screen. CHO die hard. We have an awesome deal going on now. Told you about it off the top of the show as well. $36 for the entire year. And you get a shirt with that price. So, yeah.
It's like either way you want to look at it. You're either buying a shirt and you're getting all of our great content for the whole year for free, or you're getting a shirt for free and you're just getting a great deal on the content. However you want to justify, you also get 20% off all merch all the time and all of our events. If you still want to buy a foursome to the golf outing next week, you get $50 off that.
If you're a CSGO diehard. So it pays for itself. And again, that outing is coming next week, Friday, June 6th, still got some room available, limited room available, but you can still sign up. It's an 8 a.m. Shotgun start village links of Glenn Ellen, our guy, Pat Norton's backyard.
All right. I have a, before we get out of here, I know Karm's got a bunch of notes. I have notes from practice too. We haven't talked a ton about the specifics of practice. I think that's okay today. We also have just teasing tomorrow's show. We got a lot left over. I want to play more from case Keenum and Ben Johnson on some other topics. And, and so we'll bring that in and have it for you on tomorrow's show. I want to spend all of next tomorrow's show on Ozzie Trapillo and
playing with the ones the entire time that was that left tackle. Correct. Obviously. So it was, that's not, that's not one of the notes I was about to bring up here. Um, I wasn't surprised by it and I wasn't surprised by Ben Johnson's answer. Um, it seemed like, again, we only get to watch one of the three practices each week. Next week will be the big tell because we'll be able to see three in a row, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. I,
he said they've been moving guys around. I think they're giving Quran days where he gets with the ones as he gets other days with the ones. I'm not going to make a big deal out of this, but between the left starting left tackle and the starting right tackle today, the starting left tackle look better. So that's also one of my notes because I saw Dom Rob beat Darnell right in a moment. And I was like, that shouldn't be happening. Um, not a big deal. Everyone runs and loses a rep. Uh,
but I saw only good things from Ozzie today, at least from my vantage point. Speaker 0 : Is there any, sorry, karma. Is there any, just because he was pressed about so Darnell, right? Is locked in as the right tackle and he wouldn't commit to that.
Like, is that a surprise to you in any way? Because they've been very consistent on the messaging of this thing. That's the nuclear option to move darn all right to left. They want they don't want to have to do that. They will do it if one of these other young guys don't seize the job.
So that's why he's not going to rule it out completely. But I think they're also being very clear that that's not what they want to do. Well, and I'm not even saying that young guys not seizing the job at left tackle, but you're saying darn all right. Gets beat by Dom Rob and I get they're not in pads on the right side. Does that also have bearing on that decision? I don't think it does. Uh,
I had sent my notes too, by the way, darn. All right. On his butt. They had to help him up. He got, he got, he got smoked on one play to me, the, to pillow thing real fast. Is this interesting? He's huge. He's super smart. He's likable. He's like, there's nothing about Ozzie trap pillow. That's not impressive. I'm
Speaker 0 : Trying to figure out why he fell to number 56 in the draft. Like to me, it's like, he must not be able to really play or else he would have been taken in the top 10. These guys, they don't grow on trees that look like this. So I I'm waiting for some shoe to drop here, but he didn't look good today. And other granted they're not in pads and whatnot. So I'm just confused by the ultra pillow thing at this point. Speaker 3 : Well, it's not that confusing. He didn't, he played better at right tackle than left tackle.
Now, it's sort of darn all right. And he went 10th overall. But there's also a difference in in movement skills there. So it's not that surprising. But I think we also have to keep in context. It's like real picks are still expected to play.
They're still expected to become starters if they're not starters right away. So don't lose sight of that as well. All right. Couple things from Caleb's day. Some good and bad. I have no idea who he was trying to throw the ball to when he got intercepted by Tremaine Edmonds at one point over the middle. However, there was also an absolute perfectly timed interception.
throw up the seam to Cole commit that just like look perfect in stride, the footwork, the timing, the accuracy. That was awesome. Then later he threw a ball high to Roma dunes. They got tipped up in the air. Jaquan Brisker. He, he picked that thing off, but Carm, the next, the next play I have is the one you mentioned right off top of the show. And he threw a perfect ball down the left sideline to miles Boykin a little bit later on.
Small little thing, too, that I think just like is a good example of how a less talented veteran can do things better than a very talented young kid that still needs figured out. The Bears ran the same exact play twice with different quarterbacks, different personnel. And the throw was just like a short little wheel. I'm not giving anything away. That's just what the throw was. Case Keenum.
Perfect touch, like drops it in a bucket. And it's just like a little throw in in the flat. Like it's not that big of a deal. At least it doesn't look like a big deal, but Caleb tries to run the same exact thing when he gets on the field after that and tosses it out of bounds. So that's like a touch thing that I, it's just, I just want to bring it up as an example of like where growth still has to come from and why sometimes you see a guy's car and pointed out earlier, like,
Case Keenum's arm compared to Kayla Williams' arm right now.
Two different leagues, but it's not just about arm talented. It's about ball placement and knowing the timing of things and when to put the ball in the air and exactly where the defenders are. So that's just where all of that stuff. I'm still very confident. It's going to come in time, but even in a may 28th practice in Chicago or in Lake forest, like you still sort of see those differences sometimes even between the backups compared to the starter. So that was another little thing I had in my notes. And I think, yeah,
Did you guys want a full breakdown of carousels 53 our field goal? No, I'm good. It was right over the crossbar. Just like Cairo does. It was amazing. Just, I'll just add on a couple of things. One Cole commit is literally everywhere. I practice right now. Now Colston Loveland is not ready to get on the field, but he's running with the ones he's running with the twos. He's running with the threes. They're moving him in motion. And we had one where he, I think he was almost lined up.
It almost was like he was in the backfield, but either way, he sprinted out right, and Caleb hit him on a nice, it was almost like a wheel route. It was a beautiful throw and well done. Cole's all over the field right now, so let's not bury Cole Komet quite yet on this football team. He was catching balls from Bajan. He's catching balls from Caleb. He's catching balls from Keenum as well. You mentioned the interception to Tremaine Edmonds.
I think he was actually throwing the ball to Tremaine Edmonds that he wanted to see a Tremaine Evans could catch. Like you've been terrible. You haven't done anything. You suck. I don't like you. I'm kidding about the don't like you part, but he's, he bulleted it like literally right at him. It was a bad interception. It was almost so bad. I'm like, was he trying to figure out if Tremaine can catch, there was another play with Tremaine where Caleb, he held the ball.
too long at times today. One of them, he, he gets flushed out of the pocket. He's rolling, right? He's at the sidelines. At least he threw it a 50 yard lob shot down the right sidelines. That was five feet out of bounds and Tremaine Edmonds is right there. Did you hear him say that he was, he Edmonds to he's like out of bounds, like shit.
Excuse me. There's kids in this household, but that's why I didn't say it. It's in my notes, but yes. Yeah, that happened. So that was kind of fun. It was right in front of us. A little, little competition. Eric Bochannon said to you what I said to you on the phone as you were coming to Hoag's house. I said, you said you wanted more interceptions. So there you go. I do. I do. I didn't say it was great.
I mean, this one was kind of stunningly bad. Like, I want intercepts where he's like, you know, throwing it to a receiver. It's like a contested play, not directly to the linebacker, but it's fine. It's cool. No problem. I'd rather see him get rid of the ball and do that than run out of bounds, which was interesting, too. And we can wrap up my notes just on that, that Tyler Scott looks great out there and they should get him the ball more. And also that...
You know, Caleb in his press conference, he talked about, he's like, look, you know, there's a lot of good and bad last year. I only threw six interceptions. So he's, he's, he loves that stat. He loves it. He only threw six. It's, it's part of the, Hey, look at this little Stiney gold star on my resume. I only threw six interceptions. So it's a, it's a good stat. Carmen, if you could come over here in the room, I'm in, I will take your notes from you and put them in the paper shredder I have over here. Thank you very much. They're on my phone. Well, we can put that through there too.
Speaker 0 : All right. Let's get into the super chats. We got a bunch of them. Appreciate everybody watching, listening again, hit that like button, hit subscribe. Speaker 3 : And real quick, according to my guy, Gary Ross texted me, Caleb's on a TV, 12 dial and exercise plan. He said that I missed that. And that's why he's got thin face. So those of you who don't think that I know thin face, when I see thin face, he's got thin face. That's what's happening. Damn it. TV, 12, Caleb. I've actually read, I've actually read the TB 12 book, believe it or not.
Oh, I believe it. That's what you do. That's why you're Adam Hogue. There's like 30% of it I took out that's really helpful. Most importantly, stretching, which I'm still not great at.
way more pliability with your muscles, way more important than what they look like. Just, I'm just that that's a Tom Brady special for you that I actually believe in. All right. Zero demon $20. Thank God. Caleb talk today. So the media, not CHCO could finally shut the F up. You got it. Zero.
Zero demon, $10. Does your dad speak for you? These reporters need to be drug tested. Shake my head. Who asked that question? That was Finley. And by the way, that was a good question. His dad's in a book. His answer showed you it was a good question. He gave a great answer to that. He's like, I love my dad. I wouldn't be here without my dad. But yeah, he says things.
I mean, I think the question could have been worded better. I know you're buddies with Finley and I won't, you know, rail him across the coals too hard here, but at the same time telling someone that, Oh, do they speak for you? You know, I just think respectfully, he could have said it in a different way. You know, your dad, you know, and there's just a, in my opinion, a better way to say that or ask to, to garner the response that you got from it.
Speaker 0 : Well, that's between Caleb and the reporter that, and I mean, but the reality is, is I think Caleb was ready for that question. I thought he handled it very, very well. I thought that was a good moment for him. A garden hoser just finally became a diehard boys. So finally it's about time garden hoser.
Thank you. Garden hoser. We love you. Garden hoser. Glad you got there, baby. We appreciate it. Yeah. Isaac Siegel, $10. Who do you think, who do you guys think is responsible for the seemingly more transparent media sessions? Ben Ryan or Kevin much more open to me. I don't know if that's in, I don't think it's a directive at all. Yeah, I don't, I, I,
Isaac, I'm wondering if you're talking specifically about Ben. I think this is just who Ben is. I don't think Ben cares if we're talking about wheel routes or lineup decisions or depth charts. I mean, maybe there's a point where he does, but he just seems to have a little bit of this. Like, I don't want to call it arrogance. Cause I think it's just more like a healthy, a healthy arrogance, a healthy confidence. He's like,
I'm not going to spend my time worrying about that stuff. And so I think he gives thought thoughtful answers to good questions and isn't afraid to address things head on. But as I always like to say too, it's may, I want to see what this all looks like when they've lost a couple of games in a row. Cause that's when you, you start to really find out how things go. Exactly. I hope it stays this way. 10 bucks from Antonio. For the most part, the questions is we're fair and needed to put this
to their story to rest the dad speak for you question was weird don't know what kind of answer was expected again he did give a great answer on that um and you know Finley might have been trying to say like does your dad speak for you I mean that's he doesn't right like it was maybe he meant it in that sort of tone which was a little bit better perhaps I I understand somebody asked if Carm speaks for me on Twitter and
That was insulting. Nobody speaks for Greg except for Greg. The last thing I'd ever do is try to speak for Gregory P. Allen Braggs at any point in time in my life. By the way, you look like you've got a nice tan here, Gregory. Speaking of faces, you look like you've been spending some time in the sun there, cutie pie. A lot of hard work outside trying to build a fire pit. There you go. It's called SBF 30, buddy.
Chubbs 82. He always wears his SPF five bucks. Caleb should have said he doesn't speak for me, but he'll speak for me. He's my, he'll speak up for me. He'll speak up for me. He's my dad. And then he should have said, doesn't your dad do that? In essence, he did say that Chubbs. That's what he did say on the back end of that quote for the record. So you are, you and Caleb are the same. He's a little more talented than you, but you're the same. Antonio Havis, $1.99. Chubbs,
for my bad English. Sorry, fellas. LOL. You don't have to pay for your bed English. Everybody on the show has bad English except for Hogue. Hogue's got great English. Yeah, I get a couple of arms in there sometimes too. Uh,
with the, uh, five pounds Sterling. How many TDs will Caleb get this season? Love you guys. Hashtag meatball. King brags rocks. I just want it to be at least 30. Is that, is that not reasonable? It's probably not reasonable. How many quarterbacks do you think last year, Gregory threw for 30 touchdowns or more? Six, six was a popular thing with, uh,
4,000 yards. Cause there were six of them. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 of them, 35 for Donald 37 for golf 41 each for Lamar and Baker and 43 for borough. Speaker 0 : All right. But he says how many touchdowns will kill good. So he had 20 passing and zero rushing, which to me was
Like, I don't even know how that's possible to have no rushing touchdowns and Caleb, how many rushing yards did he have last year? Like, well, we don't run in sprint options at the goal line. That's how you get zero rushing touchdowns. All right. Let's keep, let's keep it going here. Yannis. What is N okay? It's a form of payment. It's about $4 to 91 cents, 50 N okays. What, what currency Nokia?
Norwegian Crone. Norwegian Crone. It's the Crone dog. That's right. I was listening to the Crone dog last night at like 1030 at night on my drive home from watching Lane Tech win the most amazing soccer game in the history of high school girls soccer. Courtney's just always doing some shows somewhere, including this one, which we greatly appreciate when she does. Hey, you did your rankings. You say the Bears have just two S tier players.
What that means is so then why do so many fans expect playoffs? It's setting up for disappointment. They have two blue tier players, which is the best of the best. Very few teams have more than that. Some do. They need more. Then I have eight red tier players, which is the next level. Most importantly, where I think they'll be competitive is they have 22 starters starting caliber players. So, yeah,
But they own us. Yeah, but we have the Eagles roster. We have like eight blue tier coaches. I'm just going to keep hyping up the coaching staff. Okay. Yeah. Well, when Eric B enemy starts taking handoffs and Randall L catches some passes in the games and
JT coaching was last year. Can I just have this for the summer until they, until I started firing him six weeks into the season. Just let me have this right now. The bears won three games a couple of years ago. Bears fans thought they were going to win 11 next year. Check the tape. Don't it doesn't come on. Know your bear fans. We love you on us. Thank you for your Norwegian dollars cash.
Samson, Goudreau, $2. Buy the book and have Braggs read it for the class. Great idea. Absolutely great idea. Thank you, Samson. We should do a podcast where Greg reads the entire Caleb Williams chapter like it's an audio book. Just do that for After Dark. That's what it should be for like six weeks. Give Briggs and Azuma the week off. Just have Greg read to everybody. I'll watch.
What was that book we had somebody on and I had to read it before the show? It was like the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. I forget. It was last year. It was called good night moon. So it's bad. That was bag man. Yes. Uh, Tissa Polo development here. His Apollo five hours says, I love you. Carm. You're the best in the business. My days would be boring and meaningless without you. Tissa Polo.
Thank you for appreciating my greatness. It takes a genius. It takes a brilliant man like yourself to understand what I do every day. And thank you.
and of course now pisitola i think karm has thin brain yeah but he spelled it wrong so this is a fail by pisitola you can't make fun of karm's intelligence and then and then spell it wrong the e is right cram if you could spell it cram and get away with it the e is next to the r on your keyboard so even the great pisitola can make a typing mistake oh he says you have thin brain but he had fat fingers there he fat fingered yeah of course
poor job by my guy uh one lucas one you just became a diehard can't wait for my first 120 club in september and the tailgate again against the vikings all right come monday night that's gonna be awesome go bears go cubs greetings from germany one lucas you know what i appreciate about you the w
And I got to keep this one simple, W, because you are about winning. And what you did is a win. You are a winner. You surround yourself with winners. You know that the top five people around you in life, those people impact your winning. And that's why you have only chosen to be around winners. And you wanted more winners, which is why you became a diehard. And now you're winning even more. Thank you, Juan. The big W. So we have a weekend where we have a 120 club and the Bears tailgate? That sounds exciting, especially with the way the Cubs are playing right now.
Neil Allen, also a new diehard Bear Down. Neil. Let's go. Neil. Neil, you look like you bring a veteran presence to the table here, Neil. And that's what I like about you, buddy. A lot of people, they read a Bears article and they just take it at face value. You're not a face value guy, Neil. You go deep. You get involved. And that's why you're going to be a huge addition to the diehard family. Can't wait to see you in the Discord. Neil Allen, you're the man.
All right. And then Chubbs, $5. I can't help it. I have to go to opening day too. Excited to miss it. Oh, too excited to miss it. Damn right, Chubbs. Opening day. I believe he's talking about the first game, Monday Night Football. He's calling it opening day. He's coming to Vegas week four, and he keeps pestering me about information on it.
uh from true fan travel which i haven't called him back so i will call you back chubbs chubbs has your phone number yeah anybody that watches this show can have my phone number i'll give you karm's number you want it right now i'll put it in the chat i mean i get a zillion uh spam calls all day long you might as well might as well add on to it
Thank you, Robert Lee, by the way, for becoming a Dyer. It is a beautiful thing. You're a good man, Robert Lee. Hey, I want to end this with just a fun shout out to Ben Jotzik because I thought it was great how he ended his press conference today by saying, I love these guys.
which was a reference to last week when, and I didn't know this till today. Apparently it was Sylvie. Yeah. Sylvie got caught on the hot mic has been Johnson's press conference ended saying, I love this guy. So Ben Johnson, a week later ends his presence conference, walking off the stage and going, I love these guys. Great move by him. Well played. I didn't know who was it. People were tagging me and they thought it was my voice. It wasn't me. So it was Sylvie.
What would Carm say if Bajan goes to the podium this summer?
Speaker 3 : I was going to ask, you know, we're going to say it for tomorrow, a teaser for tomorrow. Cause I was going to bring it up today and how worried and threatened Mark Harmon is of case. Speaker 0 : He, he couldn't get a question in the whole day, but he made sure to get one in about the quarterback, the backup quarterback competition, the case grilling him over it. It's hilarious. Speaker 3 : Damn right. I did.
And it's going to bother me tonight when I go to bed. I'm not, I'm not kidding you. I'll be thinking about it. It's annoying. I will also say, you know, for the, the, um,
media Olympics at house hall. You both got Cronin today. You both did a home, tried to get a question in at one point. And it was like this battle between him and Courtney Cronin. Courtney one got completely dominated. And then carm. I was trying to text him questions.
And I thought he was going to ask it and then Cronin asked it. So you both got, so I'm not going to do this. Usually I accept my, I accept my defeats in that room. But I, I do actually I'm not taking that today because I was called on by Aaron Clark in that moment to ask my question. Now, Courtney,
spoke up and I let her take that because it was a follow-up to her first question. And that is fair media etiquette. You had her first question and it was actually the, um, it was actually the very important stuff about the, um,
the film, the film study stuff. And so she had a follow-up definitely going to let her have her follow-up in that moment, even though I was being called on, but that's why you heard my voice. Cause I was being called on. Well, and she deserves that grace. Cause as a little waste, it says in the chat, she, she says CHGO properly. She doesn't call it CHGO. And she gave us a nice shout out the other day on ESPN. She called it Chugga. I heard her call it Chugga on Waddle and Sylvia a couple of weeks ago.
I'm calling her out on that. And by the way, there was a different, I tend to have major victory over someone else that should not be allowed to. Nope. Not going to say that. For the record, I did get Cronin and, and everybody else today I got, it was, and I had good position. I had a good seat. It was, it was not my best.
of course, me and Keenan, we, we had our moment and he, he short answered me and then I had to go back at him and then he gave me a great answer. So I think we're going to be good friends, me in case, because I'd be worried if I'm pager right now, I feel like calm is one like cool pre-season touchdown throw away from just flipping here. Speaker 3 : Never that will. That's not a, that's not a possibility.
on the way out yes did you hear you got a shout out on a big national um show no who you are no i did not colin coward who's the other guy um you got shouted out today maybe maybe it was on colin coward i think for what did they pronounce usually when i get shouted out by like dan or lovsky or nick even nick right who i know says my name wrong
hmm did they get did they get the name right yeah i'm pretty sure i'll look it up really interesting tidbit right there that was amazing um yeah honest i see you i don't i like how you're making your own tears another 20 norwegian
Now S tier is a thing. The kids say nowadays. Okay. Um, I gotta go. Cause I love you guys. And we're having dinner and I'm moving today and I'm going to get divorced before I get married. But, um, just real fast. Uh, just want to shout out the lane tech girls, soccer team. Hogan nearly came to the game last night, be a family duties. Bragg's. I know that you're coming on Saturday at 11 o'clock when they're in the sectional finals, trying to go downstate grace, Carmen four for four. Uh,
My daughter's birthday party that day. So you're not coming for foreign city championships, for foreign regional titles. And now going back to the sectionals for the third straight year to try to get new Trier. The Lane Tech girls soccer goalie. Your name is Cynthia Waller.
She was actually recruited by Purdue, but she didn't want to go to that sad-ass school. She wanted to go out to the West Coast. She's going to play at Sacramento State, which is a D1 situation. She made some of the greatest saves I've ever seen. It was unbelievable. And 0-0 after regulation, 0-0 after...
One overtime, 0-0 after two overtimes, and the shootout was nuts, and they won. So thank you, Karm Sweet Bippy. Go, Grace. Go, Grace, indeed. It was a phenomenal sporting event. I know anybody who's got kids or nieces or nephews or whatever out there, you're invested in these things in ways that it's almost uncomfortable.
but that was an amazing time last night. And you know how, cause you said you might even consider coming. I felt your presence there, buddy. So thank you. Speaker 3 : See, I was about to say you're welcome for the victory because Greg made a great point as I was like leaving the studio yesterday.
You didn't want me there. The Grim Reaper coming out, and I wouldn't be able to live with myself. If I showed up to that game yesterday and they lost in the same fashion you just described, I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I would have blamed myself. So I did my part by staying away, and I can't come now. I mean, I want to. I wanted to come last night, but now if I show up Saturday and they lose, then it's going to be bad.
I don't sit with anybody when I go. So if it just, if anybody does come out, I'll say, which I'm sure they won't. But if you do, uh, even the great crystal, I'll say hello, but I won't sit with you. I did. I got my steps in last night, walking around the stadium, walking up and down. And, um, I drank Gatorade. So I had to somehow go to the bathroom 800 times. Cause I'm,
Case Keenum years old. So, yeah. You wish you were that young. I do. I do. Well, congrats to Grace. And yes, you did get a shout out from Colin Coward on today's show, citing a CHGO episode. That's what I saw. Wow. Let's go. He's moving to Chicago too. Or he's already watching the show. Maybe he's watching the show. Yeah. He loves us. Colin, I'm Mark Harmon and I want to meet you.
And by the way, we crashed one of your parties. Where were we? Where was that? Oh, in New Orleans. We went to the volume Super Bowl party. We weren't really in. Parkins put us on the list. So thanks. Just end the show before you start saying things you're not supposed to.
All right. We're out of here. We'll be back tomorrow at noon. We got another good show for you. Got a lot left over from today's content. So it's all coming your way tomorrow. We do the show every day, usually at noon, unless we have a post-practice show. So back to noon tomorrow. Got another show Friday. Keep this thing rolling. See you at Show Bears Podcast. Talk to you tomorrow.
