我认为J.J.

on where Ben Johnson and Kayla Williams rank right now in terms of head coach quarterback duos. This was a piece that our guest, our guest coming up here in a few minutes, Matt Verdam wrote for Sports Illustrated. He was out of practice the other day, as I mentioned. We'll let him explain his rankings. But as we dive into this conversation,

I think first glimpse, it's a little low. You're a little bit surprised just because of all the excitement that comes with Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams at this point. But on the flip side, Carm,

We've never seen Ben Johnson coach a game as head coach. And Caleb still obviously has a lot to prove, too. So he's got I don't want to give it away to the interview. He's got him ranked in the 20s, this combo in the 20s. And I think it's somewhat justifiable. Honestly, it's just really hard to even rank them at this point because it just feels like an incomplete grade.

Yeah. So I pulled up his list, Hogue, because we don't have to go through the whole thing, but I was just kind of going through it, looking for the undeniables. And I mean, I think everybody out at the top of their head would obviously put Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes one. Some people would think that Reid is the best coach in the game and Mahomes is the best quarterback in the game would be a pretty unanimous. I would think.

He has him ranked both one as the head coach and, and one is Patrick. So one and one equals one chiefs at the top of the list. His third ranked quarterback in this is Lamar Jackson. So he's got Lamar at number two, along with his fifth ranked coach, John Harbaugh. I don't think anyone would argue with that. Stop me when you would have an argument. Now there are there, he's got some, some, some, he's he takes some liberties here. Sean McVay is third and

as a coach. Can I just ask some questions to kind of maybe, because I'm just like, I want, let's just stick to the NFC North. Like where does he have, where does what, like how about Kevin O'Connell and JJ McCarthy? Another rookie that seems like a comparable, somewhat comparable situation. Let's do it this way. Who do you think has got the top ranking in the North? The floor in love.

He has Campbell and golf at 11 as the top. Okay. Lafleur and love is 13. He's got Lafleur as the 10th rate coach and love it for at 14. And then his Vikings is it's an interesting one. It's a great, which is a great comparison. He's got him 18th with Kevin O'Connell at nine and JJ McCarthy at 28, which is lower than what he's got Caleb. So, so that's, that's how, that's how he did it. Now I listen,

Kevin O'Connell, well more established than Ben, right? So I don't see how you could rank Ben. Ben has to be the lowest ranked coach in the division. Dan Campbell's had a ton of success. So has Kevin O'Connell. So has Matt LaFleur. Now, maybe he'll rise on that list. But right now, objectively, there's no way that Ben Johnson is not at the bottom. And then if you look at the quarterbacks in the division right now, you could certainly, I would rank Caleb ahead of JJ. But other than that,

I don't see how you can make an argument that he's better than Jared Goff, and you certainly can't make an argument at this point that he's better than Jordan. So I think in the division it's pretty clear cut. Caleb should be third unless you want to make a big bet on J.J. McCarthy that I'm not willing to make a bet on. You've been making the same bet on Caleb, and as a rookie doing what he did, is J.J. going to throw for 3,500 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions? I'd bet against that.

Yeah, I mean, look, doing this on May 30th, like I said, it's a tough thing to do. It's incomplete, even when it comes to J.J. McCarthy, who he hasn't played either. Well, he hasn't played either. We've seen Caleb. We haven't seen Ben Johnson coach a game yet. So you kind of have to, you know, that's why it's a comparable situation with Minnesota. I...

I guess the question kind of taking the temp here is how high can the combo rise? Because there's no question that even if you're going to rank them in the twenties now, I can, I can jive with that because it isn't in complete grade, but how high can Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams rise this season? I think is a relevant question. So if you say this season, if we just limit it to that, to me, that straight boom or bust like

It's possible that Caleb figures out the footwork, the offensive line gels, Luther burdens a steel DJ who I'm hearing has, has dropped some pounds and is in some incredible shape has a, has a, you know, back to the first year that he had with the bears and he caught for 1300 yards, no Keenan Allen, maybe as you know, he, he rises back up.

Rome goes over a thousand, the running back room, which is feels like a big question mark. Maybe they add somebody, maybe they don't. And it still is a whole lot better because of the old line and, and, and just a better offense period. I, it could boom. And then the other side of it is Caleb doesn't get it. And Ben has a lot of first year growing pains and it busts to me, the bears window. It's shout out to a Gregory P Allen Braggs when he did, you know, somewhat tongue in cheek for,

a four win season for the bears or whatever. He had a 15 win season, whatever it was like, if you're really looking at the full possibilities to me, it's a, it's a huge wide range, wide range for the bears once again, coming up in this year. Yeah. I, I, I guess I just disagree a little bit. I think the floor has been significantly raised here. I think that there's just a level of competency that we'll see with Ben Johnson coming in

taking a team that should have won more than five games last year, just based on the talent alone. Now don't get me wrong. I'm not saying this is a Superbowl contender. I'm just saying, I think even the worst case scenario is an improvement over last year. I think four wins would be crazy. And I think even when it comes to Caleb Williams and I've been saying this since the beginning and I'm not wavering on it, I just think his floor is high enough that it's, it's,

like I think we already saw the floor. Like I think the floor was last year. And you add that, how could it not be when you consider what he was dealing with? So Ben Johnson alone, this offense should raise that up. And so I think for one year,

you know, into the low teens is realistic in terms of head coach quarterback combos. It might, it might even be higher than that. We'll, we'll have to see. All right. We are going to take a, let's hear what Matt Vergarama say about this because, uh,

He's the one who wrote the piece to begin with. But before we do that, we'll play this kind of extended interview with Matt Verger. And we're going to take our first break just a little bit early so we can get to that interview. And but that's all coming up next. So is Adam Rank, like usual on a Friday. It's a beautiful day. We'll keep things rolling here on CHGO. But first.

the interview here with Vertoram. Just a quick shout out to our guy Joe Gomez on the Die Hard Sale, who I posted on Facebook and he was like, he's like, I paid full price. You guys are worth it. Joe, you're the man. But don't forget one more time. Die Hard Sale, one more time today. 36 bucks, which comes with a free t-shirt. Basically free. And also, I saw you earlier in the chat, my guy Cal and Tierney, the expert linesman at Wimbledon who hooked me up with Wimbledon tickets last year. Watching the show today, Hoag. That dude's the man. Um...

They got rid of linesmen. What the hell, Wimbledon? That's just messed up. No. Yeah, well, you know, computers just killing the world here. They need – Callum was perfect when I was out there last year. Dude didn't miss a call. No computer could do better. Bring him back. Love my guy. All right, let's get to Matt Verderam again. He was at practice on Wednesday. We caught up with him yesterday to get his thoughts on everything. Bears and a little Chiefs connections too. Here he is, Matt Verderam from Sports Illustrated.

And as promised, it is always our pleasure here to bring in Sports Illustrated's best. Yeah, I said that, Albert Breer. No, just not me, our guest. I used to work with him at Fan Sighted, so I'm a little bit biased. Matt Vertoram, NFL guru, NFL expert, who was out at Bears camp this week hanging out with me and Hogue and Clay Harbor. It was a great scene out there. Vertoram, though, I'm going to make Bears fans unhappy with you right now because I was reading your rankings today.

And you did a coach QB ranking and you put the bears 27 with a caveat in there that they can move up. But Hey, right now in the NFL, Ben Johnson and Caleb Lewis, if I'm ranking them, they're 27. So please tell bears fans why you have them that low. Because Ben Johnson's never coached an NFL game as a head coach. And he's never been a head coach at any level. And he might be a Vince Lombardi, but he right now is Ben Johnson with a zero and zero career record. So, uh,

I kind of have a rule that if you are a rookie, if you are a coach or a quarterback that's a rookie, like you kind of, you got to start back in the line and work your way up. Now, I believe I'd have to go back and look, but I believe of all the rookie coaches, he's the highest ranked one that I have. But he's got to work his way up. And then with Williams, I'm not one of these guys who thought he stunk as a rookie. I thought he was fine.

But how high could you rank him? Like at some point you've got to look at it and go, okay, well, realistically, how high can I put him? And in the end, I put him at 22. Like I don't think you can put him wildly higher than that. For an example, I have Tua Tungvalu at 20. And Tua, would I take Williams over Tua long-term? Yes, I would.

But to his helm, a couple of teams have gone to the playoffs. He's won games. He's put up some numbers. There's just a lot of unknown with the Bears right now. And that's why I think they could move up quickly, but they've got to earn their way up. I'm not just going to put them up there to then knock them back down. What were your biggest takeaways walking away from the practice field and getting to see them in person?

I like the way Ben Johnson ran practice. If he didn't like something, he stopped him and made him do it again. And I think that's a small thing, but it's a meaningful thing. I thought the defense was flying around. They looked, you know, it's OTAs and there's no pads. But I thought they looked like they were cohesive on the same page. Dennis Allen running the show. It seemed like his install was going good from what you could see. They appeared not to have a lot of communication breakdowns.

Offensively, I'm a big Adunze guy. I was a big Adunze guy coming out of college, out of Washington. I think he's going to be really good. I thought he had a good rookie year. I think he could have a terrific sophomore season.

The big question with the Bears is going to be, are the tackles going to hold up the way you want them to? Because the interior should be really good, right? The interior should be good. And then the other question is just, it's an unknown because we didn't see the guy yesterday. You've got Loveland coming off the shoulder and Burden dealing with a soft tissue injury. Like, how much do those guys factor in the offense? So I think the offense is behind the defense, but that's to be expected when you're missing your top two draft picks and you have an entire new scheme that you're trying to fold in with some younger guys.

What's your read on the Bears offensive line? You know, you've obviously covered the NFL, but also a heavy focus on the Chiefs. You were at the Super Bowl last year. I think you told us yesterday that you were hanging out with Joe Tooney after the debacle. This is the, I mean, Hogue talks about Joe Tooney at least

30 minutes every day to whoever will listen. He loves them to the end of the earth. But they still have this left tackle question. Yesterday it was Ozzie Trapillo, or two days ago it was Ozzie Trapillo there. Caron's lurking, and hopefully Braxton gets healthy. How do you look at the Bears' O-line? Listen, I think they did a great job. Jonah Jackson's a nice addition. Drew Dallman can come in and really play. He's a good center in Atlanta. Joe Tooney is a Hall of Fame caliber player. I mean, he is – I watched every snap he played in Kansas City.

I could count on one hand how many times that guy got beat in Kansas City. And I mean that. Like, genuinely, in what was he, four years? I can't think of one time he just got blown by when he was playing as a guard. Now, tackle's different. Tackle was more of a challenge.

And guard, you just assumed it didn't matter who it was. And that includes when they played Aaron Donald and when they played some of the best attack, Quinn and William. That's fine. That guy's doing nothing. And now they also create Humphrey Trey Smith. But duty was a big part of that. My big question, as you point out, is the left tackle. You know, you know what you're getting at a darn all right.

What are you getting out of left tackle? That is a big overriding question. Obviously, the blind side for Williams is right. That is a huge part of this. But last year, that entire offensive line was a massive question mark. This year, you're down really to kind of one to one and a half, depending on how you're feeling, right? I think their offensive line is going to be a lot better, but can it be top tier? And I think a lot of that depends on the left tackle and how that plays out.

Are you shocked that somebody's actually seen Joe Tooney? Are you over that now? So, Verneram, Bears fans were jumping up and down about Joe Tooney. And I believe you, because when we worked together, literally every time I walked by his desk, he was watching. I say this every time, but it's just worth noting. But he'd have on like Dolphins Raiders 1978 at 2 in the afternoon. That's what he's watching. I'm like, this guy's unbelievable. There's nobody better.

So I believe you when you say you watch it, but all bears is, oh, I love Joe Tooney. I'm like, oh, come on. You tell me you've been watching left guard play? You know, people just kind of take the words of you and others who are experts in it, and I suppose Hoag is watching too. He's one of the five best guards I've ever watched play football. I mean, I really genuinely feel that way. He is...

They basically just plugged him in at left guard and said, all right, done. Never helped him. Never needed to do anything to slide. It was just like whoever he's blocking, that guy's out of the game. That guy is just not a factor anymore. Okay, and I'm not trying to say this, and I don't want to interrupt you, but why did the Chiefs move on from there? Explain the rationale. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It wasn't an easy decision, but what happened was they paid Humphrey as the number one center in the league, which fine, rightfully so. He's fantastic.

They're about to pay Trey Smith, we all assume, well over $100 million and probably make him the highest paid guard in the NFL, which is also fine. He's been fantastic. Tooney's in his mid-30s and the Chiefs,

could have kept him this year if they wanted to, but felt like we can get a pick, mid-round pick, which for a 30-plus-year-old guard is a pretty good value. Not to say the Bears shouldn't have done it. I found the Bears were doing a heartbeat. But they felt like they could get the pick. They ended up using it, by the way, in the draft to move around the board. But they basically felt like, let's get something now, and let's get Kingsley Suomate in that spot. Listen, that might work out. That might be a disaster. But he's certainly not going to be Jotuni.

But they moved off him essentially because they're paying Humphrey and they're about to pay Trey Smith. I mean, they're paying those guys top of the market money. So that's why they did it. If they weren't going to pay Trey Smith, then I'm sure they would have kept Joe Tooney, but Trey Smith is 25 years old. So they said, hey, look, we're going to have, you know, five, six, eight more years of Trey Smith instead of, you know, one more year of Joe Tooney. But I would tell you, look, I'll give you a quick story. I wrote this for Fansite, but I don't know if, Carmen, you have any reason to remember this.

Um, when Tooney was at the combine, when he was coming out of college, he was, he's so smart that his, his camp, his agent actually told them, listen, miss a few questions on the wonder lick on purpose, because you're going to get a perfect score.

And there are going to be some teams in the NFL that, as weird as it sounds, we're actually concerned that you're too smart for football. You might end up having ambition outside of football and do something beyond the NFL. So don't get a perfect score. Purposely just tank two or three of the questions.

And he did because the wonder lick was so easy for him. They knew having practiced it, he's just going to ace this thing, no problem. So he purposely missed a few answers because he's so intelligent that they were worried that NFL teams might think he's too intelligent to play football.

That's amazing. I love that. That's a great nugget. We'll have to ask about that. That's freaking awesome. That's what Carm did at Iowa. Yeah, no, I intentionally, that's why I got it. So I only got a 22 on my ACTs because I didn't want to be, I don't want to overshoot it. That's why it took six years at Hawkeye Nation. Five. So what did you think about the contract you got with the Bears then? The extension that they worked out? Yeah.

It's great because the Bears are paying a rookie quarterback, right? Like, they have the ability. And the Bears don't have a ton of massive contracts. Paying Sweat a lot of money, paying Jalen Johnson a lot of money, right? But, like, they're not paying – you know, DJ Moore is going to be a deal, but you're not paying –

eight nine i mean the chiefs are paying kelsey and mahomes and they're they're paying smith eventually here very shortly they're paying humphrey they're paying chris jones they you know they have they have tons of kind i mean amena who's getting on a per year basis a decent amount of money although now now less uh but they you know bolton's getting real money they're they're paying a lot of guys butker's the highest kicker in the league like they pay a lot of money these guys

If I'm the Bears, sure, I'll pay it. By the time that contract runs out, Williams is still on a rookie deal. So you have the flexibility in Chicago to give a guy 17 mil a year, 18 mil, that you can't in Kansas City, that you couldn't on a team like Buffalo or a team like Baltimore. You can't.

But in Chicago or a team like Washington who absorbed Laramie Tunzel's deal, sure, we'll pay you that money. But by the time that contract's done, then we got to start paying some big money to some other guys. But right now, the Bears are in a position where – and Edmonds is another guy, of course, big money. But they can do that. Whereas some of the teams that are paying their quarterbacks 50, 60 million bucks a year comes much harder. So –

We have this kind of funny tradition in Chicago where national writers will come in on like a random Wednesday and walk into a hornet's nest. Like there's a great story. I'm actually forgetting now which coach it was and what the drama was. But Robert Mays came in like on a like just on a random day. And like for some reason, the head coach had to come in the media room and like have a huddle with us about some topic that was going on. And he's just like, what the hell is happening here?

So I don't think you showed up the other day to hear Caleb Williams talk. Cause I don't think we actually even knew that was happening, but I am curious since you were there and you are aware of the story, what you thought of how Caleb Williams handled that whole thing on Wednesday at house hall. I think it's good that he addressed it. I think it's good. He got out in front. I also thought it was good of him to answer the questions that were asked of him. And he didn't just give the whole, I talked about it in the past now. Like, no, no, no, that that's bull, right? Like,

I give him credit for being the adult that he was in that moment and saying, hey, I'm here. I'm going to address this, and then I'm going to answer the questions that you have. Now, I would expect that going forward, he's probably not going to answer any questions on that, and that's fine. He addressed it. He answered everybody's questions to the best of his ability. He talks for about four minutes straight at the beginning. I think I recorded it. I think it was like three minutes and 45 seconds.

He rambled a little bit. He repeated himself a few times. That's okay. I'm not going to hold that. You know, listen, that's fine. He's not a public speaker. He's a quarterback. I thought he handled himself well. I thought he explained it well. Look, we all know, guys, we all know the truth of this, okay? If he goes out and he stinks this year, that story is going to follow him. And if he goes out and throws 4,000 yards for the first time in Bears history and throws 31 touchdowns and they win 10-11 games, nobody's going to care.

nobody's gonna care it's not gonna matter um he needs to just go out and do his job and play well I actually thought the most interesting part of his entire presser was talking about body language and how I know it's a big thing with Ben Johnson and Ben Johnson's talking about getting guys on the right page but you know I just I thought just listening to Ben Johnson listen to Caleb Williams and then talking about

Just the little details. I know that was really insightful. Yeah, sure. The story out there, it's not what you want if you're the Bears, but you know what? It doesn't matter. He's on the Bears now. He's not requesting a trade to Minnesota. He's on the Bears. Go win. Go play. You know how many guys got drafted by a team they didn't want to go to? You

Jim Kelly cried when he got drafted by the Buffalo Bills. He cried. He cried when he got drafted by the Buffalo Bills. And he hated the idea of going to Buffalo so much he went to the USFL and played for the Houston Gamblers. And then he went to Buffalo. He lives now in Buffalo and loves them and is a revered figure in Buffalo. Go win. Go play well. Nobody will care.

Great way to put it. They nearly went and worked in Buffalo. They offered me $200 a week to do sports updates. I would have gone. They didn't give me the gig. Ended up in Kansas City. And then some tangentially met for a rem. Kind of, sort of, in a weird way. Hey, uh...

I don't want to give anything away what you were working on yesterday, but maybe you can tell us just why you were at Bears camp yesterday, what you're putting together. No, sure. Look, I think the NFC North is the toughest division in football. And so I'm going to be making my rounds. I'm going to see the Packers and the Vikings.

I was scheduled to see the Lions, but a little back surgery getting in the way. A little minor disease. We'll be all right. But I'm going to try to get Campbell on the phone instead of just going up there next week. But yeah, basically work on a story about how this is the toughest division of football. Last year, I'm doing this off memory, so forgive me. I think the NFC North won 45 games total last year. That is the most a division has ever won since the divisions were realigned into 14 divisions. No 14 divisions ever won that many games.

And I would argue the division's better because I think the Bears are better. I think the Packers are at least as good. I think Minnesota's excellent. And I think Detroit's excellent. So, you know, this division is a division you look at and go, is this the best division in the league? Yeah, I think it is. Is it the best division we've seen in a long time? You could have a division here where the worst team in the division wins nine games. That's almost impossible.

So I think the NFC North is loaded, and I want to talk to some people about it and start working on a piece for the preview. So you think that J.J. McCarthy is going to hit the ground running? I do, because of who his coach is. Kevin O'Connell got Sam Darnold to play an MVP candidate. I mean, and I can tell you, and I've spent some time with the Vikings. I've spent a lot of time actually with them. Every team is going to tell you they believe in their guy, right? Every single team. But you also get some stuff, like sometimes some vibes and some off-the-record stuff. You're like, all right, they believe in him. Well, I kind of have to believe in him.

they love JJ McCarthy. They genuinely feel like JJ McCarthy is going to be fantastic. And I can tell you, I was at camp last year up in Eagan before he got hurt. He was awesome. He was throwing the ball all over the yard. Now, listen, he's essentially a rookie. He's coming in. He's fragile. We'll see. But

You look at the talent around that guy. That is a good offensive line with Jefferson and Addison and Hawkinson and Jones and a really good solid, a great front seven. The secondary is a little bit of a question. I think the Vikings are going to be really good. And I think if McCarthy's just good, that team's a contender. I hated that last 60 seconds. We are banking on him sucking Verteram and the Lions falling apart because they don't have, they lost their DC, their OC, and they're going to, what the hell are they going to do?

That's a real question. Carl, I'll finish on you guys. What do you guys think of the Packers? Because my opinion of the Packers is they're kind of the wild card in all this. I don't know. Are they better than the Vikings? Are they better than the Lions? I don't think they are. Are they better than the Bears? I don't know. If Williams is good, I think you can make a case the Bears are better than the Packers. I think you can. I think the Packers are...

I think in a weird way, we kind of know what the Packers are. I think they're just going to be sort of, you know, they're well enough coached. They're always going to be competitive. But you look at their wide receivers right now, and you're like, eh. I think, honestly, I don't mean this. Like, where'd you have Jordan Love in your quarterback rankings? That is a great question. I'm guessing. I'm looking up right now. I'm guessing middle of the pack. To me, he's like, he's good. I like Love.

I mean, he ain't game exactly. I had him 14th. Okay. I had him 14th. And that's my point. You have him right in the middle. You have him right in the middle. And I think that's what he is. I don't think he's like this superstar, but he's good. And what I do start to want, not to be going off on a huge Packers tangent here, but the problem they might have there in Green Bay is they're so used to being really good or at least like –

Right. Always in the playoffs that if all of a sudden they are also the Bears are better and they're the fourth team in a really good division and they don't make the playoffs like the heat starts to rise even more than it already sort of is because you could sort of feel it bubbling already in Green Bay. I mean, I think the floor is a great coach and I think that they have talent. But like when I look at the Packers and look, I think in most divisions are a playoff team. They might very well be in this year.

But when you look at them, who are the superstar players in that team? Who are the guys, if you're an opposing coaching staff, you circle and you're like, we got to defeat that guy. Who is it? Who's the first team all-pro in the Packers? Kenny Clark?

You know, like maybe Rashawn Gary at some point, although that's been more potential in actual production. But, you know, Jair Alexander, if he's finally healthy, but he's seemingly never healthy. Like, I like Jaden Reed, but if he's your number one receiver, you're not like overly terrified, right? Like if you rank the number one receivers in the NFL, where does Jaden Reed come in? 20th? So it's...

I think the Packers are good, but I don't think the Packers have the ceiling. The other teams feel like I have love ahead of Williams in my quarterback rankings, but I know what Jordan Love is. Williams could go up 15 spots because he's a second year guy with Ben Johnson. It's just different. The Bears have much more room to grow where the Packers, to your point, you know what they are. They're probably about a 10 win team. That's probably who they are.

As we keep things rolling here on a busy Friday on the CSGO Bears podcast. Always love having Matt Verdam on. And now we bring in Adam Rank, our buddy, our pal to the show.

What's going on, Greg? Oh, not too much. Just a fun little day here. And, you know, you would think, you know, the middle of the day or the week after, the couple of days after Memorial Day would be a lull time in the NFL, but I'm rocking here at CHGO. I'm going to go down and do some stuff with Jim Rome. And then I'm going to go out and do – is my level too big? Is that the big? And then what else? What else?

Oh, I got like the Savannah bananas tonight and the insider. So it's a, it's a big day for me. Wait, you're going to see the Savannah bananas. Yeah. Have you ever been in it before? No, it's going to be a big night for you. Which, which stadium are they selling out tonight? Then I'm just incredibly angel, angel stadium.

Okay. What made you want a banana? Let's go deep into the rank activity profile. I was told by the kid's mother that we were going to see the Savannah Bananas. That's how that works, right. I'm still holding out hope I'm going to get out of it somehow. Right.

Rank, you know, I'm nothing if not observant. And right before you came out with us, you had your glasses on and you were reading something. Was that your financial profile or were you reading Caleb Williams' breakdown? You looked very serious right before. Something serious was going on right there. Were you reading about why Michael Jordan was... He was reading the Caleb Williams book, Carm. Something was going on that seemed serious. Or maybe that's just your look when you're reading. Well, I'll tell you what, I was serious. I was looking right now. We've got the sand tournament coming up here in a couple of weeks.

And I don't have any. My players aren't listed. And it's kind of a problem. Yeah, we have a tournament that's going to be on the sand. And it's going to be pretty fun. But I'm glad I'm looking at the last minute now. It's next weekend. So I'm just looking. What sport? Football. Oh, I'm sorry. Soccer.

Hold on. Wait, hold on. I'm with them. I'm on with Americans right now. It's Fahrenheit. Yes. Soccer and yards. Okay, good. Now I'm sorted. Okay.

The life of rank Fridays with rank. I mean, sometimes you just, you know, you want to, you want to get to know everybody on CHGO. I mean, I do. I like the peak around the, you know, this time of year. I mean, like how many times do we want to sit here and talk about Caleb Williams? We can get mad about Jordan and,

in magic. It's not even a LeBron thing, which is hilarious to me. And then in addition to that, you guys had Jeremy pivot on. And so I thought, you know, I don't want to do it without Greg here. And I'm curious as to what Greg's take. Cause like I was sort of,

I'm like, what are the, like, I think Jeremy Piven's great and I love him in so many different things, gross point blank. If I was ranking them, like PCU is one of my, it's gotta be my favorite role of Jeremy Piven of all time. I could see Bragg's not liking that movie

And he's going to go for some other random thing. He's going to go like, oh, Lucas was his best move or whatever it is. I don't know. It would be shocking because not although we shouldn't be shocked by Braggs at this point. Yeah, but my favorite underrated role that I kind of wanted to slip into the interview yesterday that we just did just the opening never opened up is cheese in old school. The dance. Yes.

Yeah, that – honestly, yeah. Like, playing the jerk like that. I mean, it's – he obviously gets into this thing where he's everybody's friend in PCU. Then he becomes Ari Gold. But then, yeah, he works in cheese. So there's a wide range to Jeremy Piven. I do want to add, like – and I –

I'm sort of on the fence because a lot of standup comics that I know get very upset that Jeremy Piven is out there hogging, like, hey, it's stage time. And has he earned it at this point? I'm like, I don't know. Like if people are going specifically to see Jeremy Piven, and I think people do, you know, yeah, then you get stage time. Like, I'm sorry. Like some of the funniest people in the world...

who I see a lot don't like nobody comes to see him so it's an unfair business but I would like to know a little bit more I would have gotten into a little bit of that with him too uh because I'm I'm sort of in I see both sides of it like yeah I get it like he would he would hate it if I just but like he had Craig Kilborn on uh old school who absolutely didn't deserve that role but because he was Craig Kilborn he's on so like people invade invaded his world too so uh

I don't know. I would have liked to have gotten his take on that. I hear what you're saying, by the way, because, you know, a lot of people that are just like myself, right? Tonight, I'm going to see Nikki Glaser up in Milwaukee because, you know, I've seen her a million clips. I was going to ask if you've seen her. Yeah, but I haven't seen her show. So she might not be, you know, I've seen her make fun of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, and I think that's hysterical. You've never seen her in person? I have not. No.

You're going to love it. Okay. She's really good. Yeah. She's actually, I think she's funnier when you see her in a, you know, when you see her in a comedy room and you're sitting there and you're loaded up, however you, however you get down, that'll be the case. It's going to be a lot of fun and you're going to have a good time. She's amazing. She is one of the funniest people that I've ever, ever seen. But, but Carm, if you want to rise to Bragg's level, you might want to get her on the show on Monday. Yes. Okay. I'll, I'll do my best on that. I mean, she's just her,

Her shows in Chicago are Sunday and Monday. You know, now I live in the Burbs here, so I'm not even in the Burbs. I basically live in Wisconsin, so it's easier almost to go up to Milwaukee. But in Chicago, she's Sunday and Monday. Or Saturday and Sunday. There's a Monday night show in Chicago. Saturday and Sunday. I misspoke. Saturday and Sunday. But still Sunday night, and she's doing four shows. 7, 10, 7, 10, or I think 4 and 7 on Sunday. This would have been the perfect time to get her on to promote that song. We're doing it. She didn't need to be on the show because you're promoting her for free.

Yeah, that's a good point. No more promotion for comics. You have to come on CHGO, especially if you're mad. If you're mad that Jeremy Piven's hogging time on this show, you're welcome, Joe. We've had Bert Kreischer on, too. So we'll let any of you guys on here. I'm a big fan of his joke.

That was one of the most, and that's a Nikki Glaser line from the Tom Brady roast. That was one of the most savage, like so simple and so savage. All the things that people talked about, and they're going through all the Aaron Hernandez stuff and everything. When she said that,

to uh burt i was like that is the funniest line and i'm i'm assuming that most people joel mckale was in the audience i'm sure he got it but like a lot of people just were like oh i don't okay like we're laughing because it's it sounds funny but like literally one of the most savage things you could have said to another comic and then she ignored tom segura altogether no that was uh that was tony who ignored tom segura

I loved it from start to finish. And I actually thought Jeremy Piven made a great point on yesterday's show when he was like, people think you can't get away with entourage these days. Did you watch that roast? I mean, and it was on Netflix. So you actually can get away with it. All right, here's what we're going to do. I'm going to move some things around here because we got to sneak one more break in here in the next few minutes, Adam. So we'll do that break right now, and then we'll come back as we got break.

Football. All football. Well, number two of my list is not football. We always got to get ranks list. And today he's ranking his summer wish list. And we're looking forward to it. But first...

A lot of talk about tickets. I've seen it today. People want to know what it costs to be courtside at the Knicks game. If this thing goes seven, it's like half a million dollars. I don't know if it's really half a million dollars or not, but the best place to check what the ticket prices are, use the app that I always use. I go to game time, super intuitive, easy to use, um,

All right, Adam, let's turn this thing over to you. Adam rank joining us on CHGO. This entire operation is yours. Your summer. My wishlist starts. All right. At number five, I'm going to say that Deandre Swift is,

finally stomps out all the haters. And, you know, everybody's talking about running back. Why didn't we address the running back position? Why didn't we do this? Why didn't we? And, like, nobody's really giving DeAndre Swift...

a fair shake and for me that it seems a little bit unfair because as everybody talks about like how Caleb Williams should be better with a new offensive line. This should be better. But don't you think the running game will be a little bit better with the offensive line? If you go back to the game against the commanders, I feel like one of the reasons why we were so successful were able to rally in that game was not only I think Caleb made some great plays but DeAndre Swift actually went in there and took it over and I think a Ben Johnson is comfortable with DeAndre Swift.

I certainly should be as well. And I'll just run through these and then we'll comment on it. Number four is going to be that Ruben Hippolyte becomes him. And I think that he's been on both of our shows and a very magnetic personality. And now it's one of the things that's very difficult whenever you're in this business is that you get to know somebody and you're like, I really like this guy.

and you're like, I'm rooting for him. And it's not – I'm a little biased. Like, I'll be honest. I want him to go out there and succeed selfishly because I think he's a good person and because he's a member of the Chicago Bears. But I really hope – that's my wish is that he comes in and comes out and just is a blaze of glory. And people are like, oh, I remember when the Bears were – people were dismissing this pick and ends up being one of the best in the draft. And number three, though, one of the things I'm assuming we all –

We'll be on board with is a set healthy offensive line that has continuity. The team that starts the first reps of training camp is the team that is there in week one. And we get to see a full off season of them working together, uh, injury free. Hopefully we know that's probably going to be an impossible ask, but, uh,

We go out there, it's settled, we know who it is. Right there at the end of July through week 18 into the playoffs, the same offensive line with very little tweaks or anything like that. I think that's a very desirable wish for us. And I think the number two is probably one that the entire world is rallying around is that I'm finally going to break 80.

On the golf course in a full, in a full like 70, 72 par, you know, um, I've, I've been close a couple of times. And then the last couple of times have not been close shot a 93 out in Palm desert the other day. Wasn't great. But if you would, if you were watching me play, you'd be like, Hey, you got some good swings right there. Got into a little trouble, a little, a couple of blow up holes, but I had one hole where I hit it into a ravine and

And they're like, hey, do you want to hit another? I said, absolutely not. I'm going down to that ravine. And then I shoot it out again, and it's into another fairway. But it left me with a clean look to the green, took the 58 degree out, knocked it onto the green, one putt for the par. One of the greatest pars I've ever had of all time. So I think the world would agree with me. We want to see me break. Want to keep me going out there into the 80s. And at number one,

This is what I wanted. I'm sure all Bears fans, you know, Caleb Williams has growth and shows everyone what he can do. And here's my thing too, is I don't mind if he makes a mistake. You know, there was a, there was a play. There was a highlight yesterday of Jaquan Brisker off a tip ball, making an interception, running it back to like, oh yeah, look, here it is. Caleb already. So I'm like, you know what? Quarterbacks make mistakes and they make bad throws. And similar to, um,

you know, being on the golf course and having issues. It's overcoming the mistakes. When you get down to that ravine, how do you respond in the moment? Understand that it's going to take, hey, maybe you got to hit into another fairway, but you still have the opportunity to get where you need to go. And I think with Caleb is, listen, he's going to go out there and make some mistakes and

I don't want everybody to jump on him for the tiniest little thing at the start of the season. At the same time, allow him an opportunity to go out there and do what he can do. But I truly believe that him and Ben Johnson are going to be a great tandem. And we're all going to be, we're all going to be excited about this coming season. You know,

coincidentally, we asked Greg Braggs for his summer wishlist and breaking 80 was one through five on his list. But, but I actually believe that you can do it. That's the difference. The swing is okay. Like the thing, the problem, the biggest problem I have right now is getting off the team. My driver's terrible, but I'm sitting here and I pulled out cause I cracked a driver earlier a couple of months ago and

And so I looked and I'm like, I don't know. I think I might need to switch the shift, the shafts out. Cause I'm like, I don't know. Like, is this the shaft? I know. Don't blame the equipment. Never want to be that guy. I'm not striking it well, but yeah, when I shot a 93 the other day, actually I shot a, a,

I was on a par 30, a par 31, and I shot a 37 the other day. But in both of those instances, I was hitting like the four high iron, the Cleveland high bore off the tee, which is fine. You hit a 200 yard, 205 yards down the center of the fairway, which is great. But

All of your approach shots are like six iron or higher, you know? So I'm either hitting that club again, trying to reach the green or a six iron. Like there were no wedges into, uh, on my second shots, which is kind of a detriment for somebody like me. Cause that's, that's where I usually make my strokes. Yep.

Well, we just had a comment on the screen. Work on your short game. 150 in, that's how you break 80. The short game's great. That's why it's not a disaster. I've had one three putt in my last three rounds, and I putt everything out. Okay.

A lot of it, too, is not reaching the green in regulation, which allows me to chip up really close. Rank, I love you and your golf game, but I love your sentiments for Reuben Hippolyte more. I love rooting for good people, and Reuben Hippolyte reeks as a good human being in a good way. So I love that that made your list because, look, the Bears need someone to step in and help out that linebacking room. Hopefully, they'll be able to do it.

Yeah, I hope so. Yeah, that's another thing. I was talking about when I was making the list, you know, and my first thought is like, oh, we need somebody to step up in linebacker. And I'm like, oh, shoot. I'm like, ah, Ruben, of course. Like, that's...

That's one of the same like that. That's the best part of it is we do need a linebacker to step up and it's like it and it couldn't be a better person. And I've loved him. I've watched all of his appearances and I see him, you know, we follow each other now on Instagram, watching his life unfold and, you know, all the challenges that he's facing, you know, going into the NFL like it's been a lot of fun. It's been a pretty big joy. So I can't help but root for him.

That's awesome. Adam Rank, it's the Sick Podcast. Check it out, as always. And that's where he's talking about where he had Ruben Hippolite on. And are you on the Insiders today? Yeah, I'll be on the Insiders. I'm going to go and sit in with Jim Rome.

for a little bit later this afternoon. So if anybody still listens, for anybody who listens to Jim Rome, yeah, check it out. I should be on in the second or third hour and going to be doing some other things with him. So that'll be cool. Then I do the insiders. Then it's the Savannah Bananas. You're not going to be able to be completely. Yeah, that is a day. What's Rome like? What can you tell us about a Jim Rome experience?

You know what? I've been a Jim Rome fan like forever. And I did a podcast with him recently. If you've ever been a clone or anything like that, I want to go back and look. There's also been an interesting thing, too, about wondering if the Pope at one point was a clone, which would make a lot of sense. You know, he's a Chicago guy. He might have been a clone. Who knows? Yeah.

but the thing of it is is like jim is a a pretty cool dude like i i i used to meet him he would do his little tour he would do his tour stops when he was a local radio guy and my dad loved loved going to those and like it was always a lot of fun and uh and it was funny because it was right at that time of my life where my dad had just become a widower so he was really like this was like what he did he

you know, hung out, listen to the radio all the time. And, uh, he loved Jim Rome. We'd go to these things and Jim was always very gracious and very cool. And it's funny because as we go on, we go to the super bowl and we see people around and Jim Rome is probably the only person until recently that I, I, even though I'd met him before and I, I, I was, I don't know. Starstruck is the right word. Uh,

But would go, I'm like, I don't want to go bother him. Like, I actually, my friend, his son played high school baseball locally, as did Jim's son. And he was at a game one time. And my friend's like, go talk to Jim Rome. Like, you guys are both in the industry. I'm like, dude, I'm not going to go bother Jim Rome at his kid's baseball game. But yeah, great dude. And I can't wait to go out there and hang out with him.

Well, have fun doing that. What an awesome day. But obviously being on this show was the highlight of the day. This was the highlight. Listen, I told Greg last night because Greg ignored me because now when Greg's not on the show, he's sort of like, whatever. I'm like, hey, I texted him. I actually was really late last night. Like, am I going on tomorrow? Like, what's the deal? Oh, yeah. So sorry.

And then I'm like, okay, whatever, Greg. Yeah. He was staring. Well, we love having you on, man. He was staring at Piv in pictures. He couldn't get over it. That's good. It was, quite frankly, it was frightening how he was looking at him yesterday. But Jeremy, afterwards, he invited Greg to his show in Chicago next week, June 6th. Oh, my God. Nice. So, you know, Greg will be there. I can't wait to hear. I want to hear an honest report about that. Yeah. Yeah.

Yeah. Have a great day. Enjoy it. Yeah, we'll do. Thanks gentlemen. See Adam. Adam rank as always. It'll be on the insiders later on NFL network as long as well as Jim Rome. I can't. Carm's jealousy is just popping through that screen right now. Yeah. Tell me about Jim Rome. Yeah. Yeah. I want to be friends with Jim Rome. I want to be Jim Rome. I want to trade my life for lots of people. Jim Rome would be on that list. The only time I met Jim Rome was in a TSA line. I think.

Maybe coming back from the Super Bowl. It must have been. Yeah, I can't think of any other reason why we'd be in the same place. So it must have been coming home from the Super Bowl. TSA line. He was a nice guy. I've never been a clone, but he used to when I worked in Kansas City, we before we had a local midday show, Rome was on. So I would listen a bunch and I it was an acquired taste for me.

And yes, we were Roman. I both rolled TSA pre-check. You got it. All right. Apparently we have no super chats. That's amazing. Well, then I'm going to take this opportunity to tell you about becoming a diehard because we got our sale going on and it's a great way to end your week. Take advantage of the, the extra day of the sale start of summer intro offer $36.50.

including a t-shirt of your choice. As always, you sign up, you get a free t-shirt. The cool thing that I didn't even know for a while is when you renew after a year, you get another shirt, you get a new shirt every single year. And it pretty much pays for the membership to begin with. But on top of all that, you get 20% off all of our merch, all of our events, including the,

We got a golf outing next week. If you still want to sign up, there's limited spots available. And you get $50 off your foursome if you are a diehard there, too. So that's coming up next Friday, June 6th, 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn. So got a lot of great things, a lot of great reasons to be a diehard. And today, midnight is going to be the deadline on that sale. So get in today.

Super chats. I believe one just came in as we end the show. Our guy, Carm's guy, Tizipola. Not Pizzitola. It's his cousin, Tizipola. $10. Carm is my light, my muse, my motivation to get up in the morning. Without you, I am nothing. Like a cup of coffee. When you're not on the pod, my day feels off. The other two are cool as well. Tizipola.

I love you. Just know that it's at this point, it's more from liking and appreciation to pure love. And I want to have coffee with you. I want to have cheeseburgers with you. I'd like to share an ice cream cone, maybe even one cone, me and you. I get to look, you get to look. Painter's in here today. Is he painting right behind you? Live look.

I have explained what's going on multiple times. He must be so confused. I don't, you know, I'm here to do business. This is amazing. So, hey. That's fantastic. All right. Well, why don't you get out of his way? It would be great. Steve, yeah. I'm ready to go here, too. My wife just came out here on the deck and handed me a nice cold beer. So let's get going.

Okay. It seems like you and I are about to have two very different days, but I hope you enjoy it. I hope everybody watching the show enjoys it. Hey, get the job done. Get the football when it's on the ground. That's what's going on over here today. That's fantastic. Thanks for watching all week long. We'll be back on Monday. Make sure you subscribe to the channel. We always have some surprises that come out on the weekend as well. And

Hit the like button, too, for this outstanding show with Matt Verdam and Adam Rank. Tell the painter I say hi. It looks like he's going to do fantastic work for you. We'll talk to you on Monday. Thanks to Steven producing as well. Monday noon, we'll be back. We'll talk to you then.
