The 16th century saw an explosion of printing and the rise of literature in England, as well as the rest of Europe. The printing press made printing large numbers of pamphlets, broadsheets, newspapers, and books easy, resulting in things like the standardization of education, the spread of Protestant ideas, and of course, the rise in questionable risque materials flowing throughout courts in Europe.
