Shownotes Transcript

Sheung Ning began learning about sound baths a few years ago and regularly performs sound baths. A self- proclaimed introvert, she finds that sound baths allow her to express herself creatively and makes her more outgoing. These recordings were recorded one evening in Lai Chi Kok. In the recordings, you can hear the sounds of late evening in the building as the shopkeepers close their roll down gates, Jangle keys, and leave footsteps that disappear in the distance. It is a great description of place and location.

This recording was done when the adjacent spaces were closing shop. I love this recording because it has these unscripted elements of place and life much like the improvised sound baths of these projects. The most memorable part is just when the rolling shutters close, she hits the bowl and begins her sequence. Such a great coincidence. Sheung Ning plays slow, and lets each bowl take its time to ring into your consciousness. As the air conditioner turns off, the room gets really quiet, magnifying each sound. The studio sound is ‘dead’ with no echo and no windows making the experience that much more intimate.
