Rebecca, welcome to the program. Yes, hi, Dr. Laura. I'm calling. I've listened to your show for a really long time. Thank you. And I'm nervous to call in, but I'm so curious to hear your advice. Okay. Okay.

I've grown up with a mom who throughout my life since being a child would, when she got angry, she would stop talking to me for weeks or months on end. And I would just have to kind of grovel to get her to forgive me. Sorry, I'm nervous. But two years ago, we were all together for Christmas and she left town without saying goodbye.

I wouldn't take my phone calls. It's been two years. I asked my dad what happened. He said that we interrupted her and that I should call her and apologize. She stopped talking to my children who are 13 and 11. She used to see them all the time. I have a recommendation. Okay. I think you need to throw a party that the Wicked Witch is out of your life. Really? Yeah.

Yes. Okay. Yeah. Party hats, party favors, good food. I think it's time you say enough. Can I ask you a question? Isn't that what you're here to do? Yes. Good. All right. Go for it. When I talk to my dad, he tells me I'm being selfish and that... Okay. Okay.

Stand back, make believe he's not your dad. How would you describe his behavior of defending and making everybody else feel responsible for his woman's bad behavior? Stand back. Tell me, what kind of a man does that? What kind of a man does that? What kind of a man does that? I figure eventually you'll hear my question. That's right.

So, frankly, I'm really sorry you got crappy parents. But how many more years do you want to play their game? It shows no self-respect. And then they're hurting your children, punishing your children. You're going to stand by and kiss her ass so she'll talk to your children? Are you serious? Thank you. That's what I needed to hear.

You protect your kids from the Wicked Witch. Okay. Be done with this already. Do I... Get on with your life. Stop looking backwards, trying to repair something out of your control that is really disturbed. Your father's behavior is outrageous. Apologize to your mother. You interrupted her, so she's entitled to be this vicious back to you. Right.

Thank you. That's what I needed to hear. I get so confused. Yeah, I know. It's horrible. Okay. Do I tell my kids the truth? Yes. Okay. And you teach them an important lesson. In your life, no matter who it is, a friend, a boss, a neighbor, a relative, all of that, you should not kiss ass to try to make people be nice to you. Okay.
