Thanks for tuning into the Catapulting Commissions podcast with your host, Anthony Garcia. On the show, we’ve sat down with sales coaches, leaders, and experts. Today, we’re talking to the Direct Sales Dominatrix--someone who owns and leads the direct sales world--and her name is Jennie Bellinger. She’s the host of the Badass Direct Sales Mastery podcast and founder of Level Up Coaching, where she operates with a commission-first mentality. 

 

Jennie started in the direct sales world with her own business where she had all the metrics you could ask for. What she saw happening was people coming and going from the sales space, which motivated her to show people that it really isn’t that hard. She realized she had a system that worked as far as recruiting and sales--she could stay and live in the bubble or leave and spread success. Now, she has fallen into her BDSM brand (Badass Direct Sales Mastery) and coaches people to reach the same levels of success (no whipping involved). 

 

At one point, Jennie was #1 in the WORLD in her space of direct sales, but it didn’t come without its fair share of challenges. In her first four months in her business, she didn’t recruit a single person to her team. She was killing it on the sales side but just didn’t have the experience--until 2 years later. The light switch flipped after she recruited her first individual. The ah-ha moment was understanding that she entered the situation believing someone would want to work with her. She recognized that her passions moved the needle. Once she figured it out, she was unstoppable. Driven by what the business was doing for her, she taught her team that same mindset and conversation. It wasn’t a side-gig, it wasn’t something she was doing for fun--it was an obsession and her business. 

 

The easiest way to distinguish direct sales from other types of sales is understanding that it is a party-based model, where the sales professional is looking to get in front of as many people as possible in the shortest time frame possible. 

 

Excelling out of the gate when transitioning to sales is everyone’s ideal situation. To get on that fast-track, it’s going to take a few different aspects. The first is attitude. You have to be all in and preserve--your first ‘no’ can’t turn you off. Neither can any other ‘no’ from then on. You are forbidden to give up. The second thing that sets people apart is consistency. This isn’t a secret--having a process and system in place that allows them to react accordingly. It also allows you to schedule your day that will always lead to more business. That doesn’t mean just posting on Facebook--social media should be social, not a business model. The third key to success is understanding that it’s based on relationships--people buy things from people, not just the thing. No one has a personal relationship with Amazon. You’re not selling just your product, you’re focus should shift to relationships. That will build a foundation for your business that will stand the test of time. That means following up and providing additional value beyond the first, second, third, fourth follow-up. The stats show that the purchase usually happens around the 6th follow-up. Worth it? Yes. 

 

Jennie’s group coaching program is for direct sales moms who are ready to get to the top. They’re looking for the leader they wish they had. This is where a supportive community who cares and looks out for one another shares their wins. In the group, there are hot-seat moments where someone works through an obstacle with the other group members. Every session has a teachable moment where thoughts, concepts, and high-level processes are broken down. At the end of the session, you discuss your takeaways and most importantly, what you’re going to do next and how Jennie can hold you accountable for that. This is a time to work ON your business, not IN or FOR your business. People are quadrupling their income and 10x their recruiting by investing their time and effort in their coaching.
