Hello and welcome to Friday's Radio 1 All Day Breakfast podcast. Today on the show we had wrong-uns. We got you up to date with all the latest things. We had comedian and YouTuber Max Fosh on as well. Plus we did the final of yesterday's quiz.
and tried to give away some big weekend tickets. And what a jolly nice time we had too. Let's start with Max Fosh. Max Fosh, welcome back to the Radio 1 Breakfast Show. Hello, Greg. Morning. We got you on a few months ago and you were cooking up a scheme. Tell us about that scheme. I'm turning 30 years of age. Well, I've now turned 30 years of age.
And for my birthday, I kind of wanted to do one thing for my kind of party, which was to have a reunion with a baby born on the same day as me in the same hospital. And I wanted us to come back together after 30 years just to work out what has happened in our respective lives, right? That was my idea.
It's a really great idea to do some sort of silly search like that is great. It usually, you usually get a lot of buy-in and I'm sure you did. You got a lot of people trying to help you. It was difficult, wasn't it? Talk us through some of the weirdnesses of it. Yeah, it was really hard. So initially kind of, I set up a tip line for people to send in any leads, which kind of led me to a bit of a dead end. I got lots of like emails, like people were signing me up to all sorts of things. I got a horse fact of the day sign up.
You know, I was being signed up to kind of realtor viewings in Texas. It was a bit of a disaster. Until I, and I spoke to you, the Loveless as a radio one as well, until I got an email from a man called Andrew, who asked whether I had thought about looking into birth announcements in newspapers. The problem was, I don't really have access to any newspapers from April 1995, but
Luckily, Andrew did. He's collected every national newspaper that's been published for the last 150, 200 years. Wow.
absolutely amazing. He pulled out some newspapers from around early April '95 and we just got scouring through the newspapers. We managed to find the name of a woman who was born on the 3rd of April 1995 in St. Thomas' Hospital, which is where I was born, and her name was Lily Hunter, right? So I then became, ironically, a Lily Hunter. Lovely. This is the thing, Max. Whenever you open yourself up for silly stuff like this, you
are always... You tend to be given gifts and that is such an amazing gift that she's called Lily Hunter and that you turned yourself into the Lily Hunter. Exactly. So, right, I now need to find Lily Hunter. It was looking quite tricky because, you know, I couldn't find anything that was kind of... that looked right. And,
until I went on LinkedIn and I found a Lily Hunter that went to school in a school that's about two miles away from my school. But most importantly, her education dates were exactly the same dates that I went to school. Amazing. So I thought, oh, here we go. New catchphrase is born. Oh, here we go.
The problem was, how was I going to get in contact with her? So I've managed to see that she had an email address at the bottom of her LinkedIn. So I emailed with the world's weirdest email being like, hi, I think we were born on the same day. Do you want to meet up? And I got a bounce back email. She was obviously out of office. And at the bottom of her out of office was her work phone number. No. So I then waited until she was back in the office and I called the number. She picked up.
She listened to me talk in silence and then she asked whether it was some kind of scam. And I invited her to the reunion, which was happening 10 days later. So this was 10 days before our birthday. And I had booked out a room in St. Thomas's at 10 a.m. I said, I've got it for two hours. No pressure. If you want to come, you're more than welcome. And...
She arrived. So I had my reunion with Lily Hunter. This is the moment. Are you Lily? Happy birthday! So lovely to meet you. Do you want some Monster Munch? A lovely moment, a beautiful moment, and very Max Fosh to be scoffing your face full of Monster Munch as it happened. The thing we need to do next...
is speak to Lily. And Lily's on now. Hello. What a ridiculous thing you got involved with. Now, let's get it from your perspective. What were you thinking when that first phone call came through? Um, it was the weirdest phone call I've ever received. I was like, how has someone got my date of birth? Like, someone's looking at old newspapers. And then I was waiting for them to ask my PIN number, but he never did. So I thought, okay. No, that's what we're doing today. If you could just give me your sort code and account number, um,
we can get on with the transaction quickly. And so what was the actual meeting like? We heard that you had a gob full of Munster Munch at that time. But then what happened? What did you do then? I mean, we just reminisced over 30 years. And it was really weird. I mean, you'll see on the YouTube video, but it was the most wonderful experience. And Max doesn't know this, but it was the best birthday I've had.
So I want to thank him for bringing me on. It was weird and wonderful. But yeah, it was lovely. So thank you, Max, for finding me in a weird, wonderful way that you did. What a lovely thing. I mean, there is a lovely sort of undertone to this whole thing. Yes, it's mad. And, you know, if it's done in the wrong way, creepy. But I think it's a really lovely, wholesome thing. And you have gone off on your separate lives, but you were born in the same hospital on the same day back in 1995, and you've now come back together. That's so nice. Yes.
Is this a friendship that can continue?
Absolutely, from my end. I hope so. And also, we realised afterwards that the same doctor delivered both of us two hours apart. Amazing. There you go. Track down the doctor now. How about that, Max? He has unfortunately passed away, Greg. Okay. He was very old when he delivered us both. That's fine. Okay, that's, you know, that's very much the circle of life. That's how it happens, you know. Well, it's been a real treat to catch up with you, Max. And great to chat to you, Lily. I'm so pleased that you enjoyed it and it was a really...
A really wonderful, unexpected load of nonsense, but really wholesome nonsense, which we can get on board with. Lily, thanks so much for being on the show today. And we look forward to hearing more about your friendship as it blossoms. Yeah. Actually, before you go, shall we play the number one that week or something? Do you know what it is, Max? I think it's a Take That song. What's the date? So it's the 3rd of April, 1995. What was number one then? Back for Good by Take That. Back for Good is perfect! Yeah!
Oh, my God. This is going to be really emotional. Get it on. Fantastic. We're back for... Oh, this is a beautiful moment. Enjoy this. Radio One Breakfast. With Greg James. I guess now it's time For me to give up I think it's time Got a fist of emotion Head of shattered dream Gotta leave it behind Whatever I said Whatever I did I didn't mean it I just want you
And from that, let's do the final of yesterday's quiz. One! Grace, good morning! Hello, welcome back to The Breakfast Show. It's yesterday's quiz, the final. You were just telling me you're still feeling nervous about it all. Yeah, I am. I still feel a little bit nervous, but that's because I want to win. Yes, because it means something to you, doesn't it? It means something to me.
You have been a very popular quizzer this week. You've probably heard me talking about all the nice messages that you got, but everyone loved how chaotic you were. And the Lara Zarsan thing, how's that been going down in the office? I am never going to live that down, ever. It's nice, though. It's going to stick with me. I think it's nice because it's good to have a thing. Lara... Oh, no. What's the thing? You've got it, you've got it, you've got it, you've got it. Lara... No, it's the other way round. Zara... Yes.
You've said the first... Zara La... Zara La... Zara La... That was earlier this week. It's the fact I start screaming. It's like, why am I shouting? Well, we were both getting quite het up with the whole thing, weren't we? I was going, you're nearly there, you're nearly there, come on, you can do this. Anyway, so we've got you on the line. We've also got Mike. Welcome back, Mike. How's it going, Greg? Pretty good, thanks. Grace, do you know that Mike sent me a picture of your car?
Yes, I've heard. So are you in the car park next to each other in your cars? Yeah. She decided to put me under a bit of pressure and park opposite me. All right. Okay. Prove that you're in the cars. Give us a beep.
So this is the team from Sandown Mercedes-Benz in Poole in Dorset. And Captain Holly didn't make the cuts today. She must be cross. Yeah, she's not happy. She's really bitter, actually. Is she? Okay. Well, that's not going to get you anywhere, is it, Holly? A little bit of bitterness. But anyway, thank you to Holly for bringing this team into our lives this week. It's been really fun. Interestingly, Mike...
I can't help but notice that Grace is driving a BMW. That might be true. That might be true, yeah. What are you driving? A BMW. Okay. I mean, this is also very good because, you know, the BBC is all about balance and impartiality. Exactly. So we've been talking about Mercedes. We should probably talk about another German car manufacturer, so it's fine. Come on then, Grace. What's the winning track if you get through and win the final today?
It has to be Eminem. Everyone needs a bit of Eminem in the morning. It's going to be Without Me by Eminem. And what about you, Mike? Well, I've gone with Stuck With You by Ariana Grande because basically no matter what I do, I just can't get rid of her. Lovely. Lovely friendly chat before we do the quiz. It's going to be a ferocious final of the quiz. Grace versus Mike today.
They're next to each other in their cars. We've already heard the beeping. Big rivalry today. You're both on 13 points, actually, so we need to do a little qualifier. Are you ready for it? Go on, yeah. And it's going to be... Well, I'm going to say that. You're going to know what to do here. If you want to go first, you're going to have to really put it out of the bag early. Here's the question. A monkey was discovered in East Lothian with a huge addiction to marshmallows. Mike, how would you ask me for a marshmallow if you were a monkey who wanted one really badly?
Grace, same question to you. OK. Mike goes first. That was pathetic. Mike, come on. I'm so nervous. Come on. Let's play fair now. Mike, you get to go first.
But don't celebrate too soon. It's first to five on the final of yesterday's quiz. Grace, if you win, is Eminem without me? Mike, if you win, is Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber stuck with you? Question number one for you, Mike. Which artist brought out her mother during her performance at the Cowboy Carter tour? Beyonce. Correct. Grace, which artist brought out Bebe Trix to perform their remix of Club Classics at her Brat tour? Who had the album called Brat?
You know it, we play it all the time. Yeah, I know. Oh, what's her bloomin' name? She's looking at me for the answer. No? I do know it. How long do we have? Three seconds. OK, pass. I've forgotten her name. CharlieXCX. Of course it is. Mike, Nottingham Forest played Brentford in the Premier League, but who won? Brentford. They did.
Grace, which singer of Focus is powerful, and I do this all the time, was on The Breakfast Show yesterday doing a silly game with her lyrics? Lorde? It wasn't Lorde, it was self-esteem. Sorry, Grace. Mike, Nikita Kanda had a surprise feature on The Breakfast Show yesterday to give Callum Leslie a pinch and a punch for the first of the month. But what breakfast show does she present? Radio 2, don't know. No, it's the BBC Asian Network breakfast show.
Grace, a chance, a glimmer. Man United played Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League, but who won? Man United? They did. Mike, we're back with you. It was Save the Rhino Day, but what does a rhino who's being chased sound like? Very good. Grace, a Japanese bullet train was brought to a halt after a huge snake wrapped itself around a power line. But what would a snake on a power line sound like?
Very good, Grace. Very good. Mike, which actor, known for starring in movies like Wonka and Dune, was seen at a basketball game with his girlfriend? I can't think. He's in Dune as well, but I can't think of his name. No? Three seconds. It's gone. It's gone. It's Timothee Chalamet. We're back level. Yeah, yeah. We're back level, Grace. Which actress who played Galinda in Wicked posted pictures of herself from her appearance? Cynthia Erivo.
Oh, no, Ariana Grande. Oh, great, you didn't let me finish. Great drama this morning on yesterday's quiz. It was Ariana Grande. Mike, ASAP Rocky talked in an interview about borrowing clothes from his wife, but which We Found Love and Umbrella singer is he married to? Rihanna. Yes. Grace, which singer of Beautiful Things, who's famous for backflipping on stage, was in a promo video for Saturday Night Live?
No. No. It is a double B. It's Benson Boone. And the final question potentially for Mike, this one to win. It was Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan's birthday. But is that movie about a saucy new relationship or choosing some paint at B&Q? A saucy new relationship. Are you sure about that?
I'm 100% sure about that. Mike, you've just won yesterday's quiz. Are you joking? Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Extraordinary drama. You really put everyone through that and you put yourselves through a lot of that as well. We're going to play stuck with you. Aaron, a great night. Justin Bieber. It feels like you'll... Do you know what? I think you two deserve each other. You deserve to be stuck with each other. Great week on the quiz. Let's have the winning track.
I think the worthy winner, Mike, I wouldn't say the most popular winner. I'd say the most popular winner would be Grace, but enjoyed it nonetheless. And now let's get you up to date with all the latest things. Miley Cyrus has new music on the way. She shared a performance of a new song called More To Lose.
She did some classic Miley riffing beforehand, of course. How's the dress? How's the hair? Stunning. It's buzzing. She cares. Sounds like she's in a good mood as well. Then the performance. I wish it wasn't true. I knew someday no one would have to choose. I just thought we had more clues. No, no, no, no, no.
She does this to us every now and then. She releases those big, big pop bangers and then suddenly does a really beautiful love song. And that is coming soon. It is called More To Lose from Miley Cyrus. Next up, let's go to New York. New York City. Saturday Night Live have released a couple of promo videos ahead of this weekend's show. And who's on it this week? I'm Quinta Brunson and I'll be hosting SNL this week with musical guest. Wait for it. Benson Boone. Who?
Benson Boone on the show this Saturday night. I can't believe you're here, Quinta. I'm a number one fan. Me too. No, don't. He'll be flipping. Of course he'll be flipping. Saturday Night Live. When is his luck going to run out, by the way? He's landed every single one of those flips. No, no, I'm just saying. Come on. He's landed every one of those flips. It's got to happen at some point. And finally, Charlie XCX is also in New York City at the moment doing a run of four sold-out shows tonight.
at the Barclays Centre and I want to play you what she said about the concert last night. She said, I can't believe I sold out four nights here because of me because I'm amazing and she is amazing and she deserves that and with that you're up to date with all the latest things. Radio 1 Breakfast. And it's now time to try and give away some big weekend tickets. Radio 1 Breakfast.
Let's do some tickets. Hopefully four of them. Gemma, I'd love to give you four tickets today. Good morning. Good morning. Be good, wouldn't it? Nice little Friday treat. Four tickets to Radio Onspeak. It would, yeah. Have you been trying to win them? Have you been trying to get them?
I try to just go through the ticket process and get them. And then, yeah, I've been bringing all week. What a process. What a process it is to get tickets. So it's probably the easiest way to get them. You can get four just straight up like this.
I can get you one ticket if you tell me who the artist is that I'm about to play you. And then if you get that right, you're through to the next bit, which is you can put it all on me if you want. Make me stressed out for a Friday and get me to answer a question. If I answer that correctly, then you get four. So that's pretty good. Where are you, Gemma? I'm in Salford. In Salford. And I hear you have fun jobs. You do fun jobs. What do you do?
Yeah, I'm a producer so I work in gaming at the minute but I used to work in TV and I did a bit of film as well. That's nice. So what sort of TV stuff were you producing and what were you doing? I did some sports. So most recently I did some stuff for European football and yeah. Nice stuff. And you work in gaming now. I guess you're full of secrets. You can't tell, you've got to be careful what you tell us about your producing of video game stuff.
Yeah, I mean, it's not quite in my five, but yeah, I've got to keep some things close to my chest. So tell us about the people you'll bring to Big Weekend then. Who's on the guest list for you? I actually have a festival chat. So the girls and I have a festival chat and we tried to get Radio 1 tickets this year and we were not lucky, so...
Fingers crossed. This could be it. It could. Does the group chat know about the fact that you're on the radio now? No, they don't know. Okay. There's a decent chance people will be listening, but they don't know. As I said yesterday, sometimes it's good not to tell people that you're on the radio and you could win them tickets just in case you don't get them. Exactly. But positive thinking. I think you're going to do this today, Gemma. I'm feeling confident as well if I get to do my question today.
So, five-second clip of a song by an artist who has played at Radio 1's Big Weekend in the past. When the clip finishes, just tell me the artist. You'll have five seconds to do so, so you can listen to the whole clip, and then there'll be a five-second little countdown, so you can say the name then. Okay, thank you. You don't have to rush, so you can just take your time and just double-check in your head that it is the right one. So, you must answer within that five seconds, though, otherwise it will be game over. Are you ready for one ticket to the Saturday of Radio 1's Big Weekend? The song clip is standing by. Good to go?
Yes. Here it is. Gemma, who the hell is this? It's Little Mix. It is Little Mix. Nice and easy. Pleased about that.
It's good that. So you've got the one. You've got the one ticket. I have. It would have been a shocker if you hadn't got that one. I mean, that is a song that we play a lot on Radio 1. And it's a classic. So yeah, Little Mix have played Big Weekend in the past. That was them. Shout out to my ex. You've got one ticket. So the group chat. I think I know the answer to this question. What do you want to do?
Well, I'm not going to gamble. So, yeah, got to do it. All right. Radio One Breakfast. Yeah, I don't want to go on my own. No. It's OK to go to things on your own, but it would be much nicer if you could take the group chat with you. So how many are in that chat? There are four of us. Oh, perfect. This could not be more perfect. So it's all on me now not to mess the whole thing up. And I've got to answer a question which will be posed by the Radio One DJs.
And then if I get it right, we give you three more tickets. If I get it wrong, then you lose all of them. Are you sure you're okay to continue? I mean, I won't like you very much anymore if you lose these for me. Yeah. No pressure at all. I got that. Yes, that's why this is horrible. Okay, I'm ready. I'm just going to lock in. I'm going to go into my mind palace and just stay calm.
By the way, this gives me a real insight into what it's like being on the other end of the phone line when I'm doing the competition. And anyway, so this is a taste of my own medicine and it's nothing less than I deserve. Here we go with today's question. Hi, it's Vic Hope and I've got a question for you. Okay, so H will perform on Saturday's lineup of Radio 1's Big Weekend. But does he have more or less than 2 million followers on Instagram? Oh, come on. I mean, I...
I'm chronically online, but I'm not checking follower numbers. Two million is a lot, but why would it be... Eight is on the line-up, so we're not... I don't think you'd ask that question if it wasn't more. Because why would you say... Why would you say two million and then go, oh, good, actually, it's way less. You're going to... I'm just trying to think of the psychology here of the question. You want to big up the line-up, so I just don't think you're going to make him sound rubbish. Big on YouTube, people love him. He's so...
It's got to be more. It has to be more. I think more than 2 million. Gemma, I'm locking my answer in. I'm saying more than 2 million. It's got to be. The answer is more. H has 2.2 million followers. Yes! Yes! We did it together. Thank you. These are so annoying, these questions. They're so annoying.
It had to be, it had to be more. It's like Manchester royalty. It is Manchester royalty and it's right that it goes to you. I mean, you're in Salford, but Salford within Greater Manchester. I'm also a Man United fan and so is H. It was all meant to be this morning, Gemma. Thanks so much for being on. Four tickets to Radio Hotspeak, really lovely. And it's pretty local to you. It's not that far away. Yeah, yeah. It'll be fine. I'm sure my dad will pick us up.
I think you should get on to him now. In fact, can we... You've given us your sister's number. Yeah. Because she's in the group chat, isn't she? She is, yeah. I'm a big sister. I'm going to call her now and you can break the news. Okay. If she answers. She might have been listening. She might not. She'll get Radio 1 calling her. This might happen. Tell her that she's live on the radio if she picks up, okay? Okay. This would be amazing if she picks up. I feel like she might not. Give her a couple more rings.
Two more. Two more. Two more. Why are you through to Jane? Please leave a message. Leave a message. Leave a message. Leave a message. When you finish recording, please hang up or press the hash key for more options. Jane, you really should have answered your phone this time. We're going to Radio 1's big weekend. You're like, this message is being left on the radio. Yeah. Good.
Well done, Jane. OK, thank you so much, Gemma. Really, really good. Thank you. We're looking forward to it. Yeah, we're looking forward to seeing you there. We'll see you in Liverpool in like 20 days' time. It's going to be amazing. It's not far away. Have a good weekend. Thanks for being on. Thank you. You too. Also today, we welcomed Amber back, who wasn't successful on the Big Weekend competition this week, but we got her to do wrong and it's a consolation prize. Radio 1. Radio 1.
I'd like to do a little bit of customer service, a little bit of aftercare, just to check in on a caller we had on this week who sadly lost on the big weekend ticket competition. Amber, welcome back. Hi. Hi, Amber. Are you okay? I'm fine.
I am okay. I've accepted my losses. Sorry. My friends were shocked that I got it wrong. And so was I, but it's okay. It's okay. That's life. If you were here now, we'd give you a big hug and say it's all going to be fine. And also there are genuinely loads more chances to win tickets. So you could get back on this could there could be a redemptive arc in this storyline, you know?
Yeah, let's hope so. Fingers crossed, eh? This was, I know it's painful, but I do want to just remind the listeners the moment that it all went wrong. Here we go. Who's this? Ariana Grande. Oh God. Oh, I don't know now. Oh my God, no, it's Sabrina Carpenter, I think. Oh God, I don't know. Amber, it is Sabrina Carpenter. I'm sorry. Oh, sugar. And well done for saying sugar.
The panic. You can just see that you can hear the panic settling in. Yeah. And also, but the annoying thing is that you got it right in the end as well. You changed it and went, oh, it's Sabrina Carpenter. It is. Oh, do you know what it is? I'm not making excuses, but I couldn't hear it like that well through the phone. So I just kind of threw a pop star out there. But you know what? It's okay. So what you're saying here is it's my fault. No, no, no, no. That's what I'm getting from this. I'm not blaming anyone here.
So, Amber, you might have heard, because I think I said it to you. I was so sad that you got the wrong answer that I threw my pen down. You can hear the pen here. Listen. Ariana Grande. Just don't throw it. No, Amber. You can actually hear it. Anyway, it's all fine. We've got a nice weekend planned. What's going on this weekend?
I have actually. My friends come down to visit me this weekend. So we're going round to our other friend's house and we're meeting her new puppy called Pepper. So we're really excited for that. A puppy called Pepper.
Yeah. Good. How cute. What sort of dog is Pepper? Do you know? Oh, God. I think she's a coca spaniel. Yeah. My friend's nodding at me. I'm afraid that's incorrect. It's a terrier. You got another one wrong, I'm afraid. Do you listen to wrong ones? Have you listened to it? Have you heard it before? Yeah, I've heard it before. I've heard it before. It's got me crackling sometimes. So, look.
I know we're laying it on a bit thick, but we need, because you're good at them, we need just wrong answers only. Okay. I think I can do that. Wrong-uns. So clear your brain even and let's see where your mind goes when you get these questions. So 60 seconds on the clock. Are you ready for wrong-uns? I'm ready. Let's do it. Wrong answers only. Let's go. And your time starts now. What did 50,000 people do in London on Sunday?
Belly dancing. What's Calvin Harris' real name? Sonic the Hedgehog. Can you sneeze for me, please? Woof, woof, woof, woof. What was your first word? Biscuits. Name a flavour of sausage. Hansel. What's Paul Meskel famous for? He is famous for walking on water. What's your name?
Ariana Grande. What's my name? Little Red Riding Hood. What will Jade be doing at Big Weekend this year? She is going to be flying over Amsterdam. What's the most popular baby girl name in the UK? Gretel. Well, I don't know. We need to check that before we laugh. And what does BBC stand for? Oh, God. Um...
Bouncing. Yes. Bouncing. Yes. Bananas. Yes. Oh God, this is really hard. Clay shooting. Yeah. It's always amazing to hear a brain working. I love wrong-uns for that. Bouncing bananas, clay shooting. Wonderful. Loved it.
Thank you, thank you. How are you feeling? Was that more stressful than doing the actual big weekend competition? No, do you know what? It was actually a little bit easier. It was still stressful, don't get me wrong. Because, you know, your mind on that BBC question, it goes places. I don't know what you're talking about. That's not great. Paul Mescal, famous for walking on water. I think a lot of people would actually agree with that. What else have we got? Sneeze, you did a woof, that was good. Kevin Harris is actually called Sonic the Hedgehog, that's also true. My name is Red Riding Hood.
Jade could be flying over Amsterdam. I mean, maybe if she's flying in, maybe she... Yeah, that's a good point. That was really good. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven. Eleven points on today's wrong-uns. Really good, Amber. Thank you so much for being on the show this week. Yeah, thank you. I'll take that.
We've really enjoyed it. Biggest success of the day. It is. And definitely your biggest success of the week. Now, look, there's more chances to win. So I don't think the story's over just yet, Amber. We haven't heard the last of you. But thanks for being so fun this week. And I'm sorry it didn't quite go your way. It's all good. Thank you for having me on. Speak to you in a minute. Have a great day. Enjoy the new puppy. Speak to you in a minute. Bye, bye, bye, bye, bye. Thank you.
That's Friday. That's done. I'll be back on Tuesday, actually. I am not here on Monday. What's Monday? Monday is Bank Holiday Monday, Big Weekend Day. That'd be fun. Well, sadly missing that. I'll be back with you on Tuesday when normal service will resume and we'll have Pink Panther S on. Looking forward to that. So have a nice weekend and see you Tuesday. Bye.
