A Hattiesburg man is charged with domestic violence and simple assault after allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint in Natchez on Tuesday afternoon. James Baker and the victim were in a black pickup truck in Natchez when the victim called police, who tracked their movements leading up to Baker's arrest. When investigators pulled the vehicle over, they found a .45 caliber pistol, a 12-gauge shotgun, multiple rounds of ammunition, and a knife inside the truck. Plus, around 14,700 Americans were injured by fireworks in 2024, and according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, 11 people were killed. State Fire Marshal Mike Chaney is urging Mississippians to use common sense this weekend.
