Welcome back to the Why Tesla Model Y podcast. This is episode 14. If you're a prospective Model Y buyer, a Model Y owner, or just can't get enough on Tesla and the Model Y in general, then you're in the right spot. Here at the Why Tesla Model Y podcast, we primarily follow the weekly happenings and news on the r slash Tesla Model Y subreddit.
Back when I was in the market for a Tesla, it was January of this year actually, I was searching endlessly for a podcast solely focused on the Model Y which did not exist. So, I ended up on Reddit and other forums to learn more about the vehicle. But I've always preferred audio content versus scrolling, especially of course on my daily 30+ minute commute. So, if you resonate with any of what I just mentioned, you are in the right place.
As I said, welcome back. The Why Tesla Model Y Podcast, episode 14. We got a rather quick one today, but I'll jump right into it with the post that caught my attention over this past week. Before I do so, if you wouldn't mind, for those of you out there listening, I know we got quite a few of you guys weekly, pause it real quick, throw me a five-star review for the podcast itself. Honestly, it just helps me
move up the charts, but more so when folks search for a Tesla podcast, it bumps it up that list as well. So much appreciated. Moving on, post that caught my attention over the past week. Surely most of you have heard of this. You've seen it by now. It's all over the Reddit thread. This was at least the post that I noted down and I bookmarked. It
It was posted two days ago from user OpegX. It says, time to place those orders, boys. And it's a screenshot of a tweet from Sawyer Merritt, verified account on Twitter, which...
that verification check doesn't mean much these days anymore but it says breaking starting today tesla is offering a loan rate of 0.99 so basically one percent apr for all new model y finance orders in the us the promotional rate applies to finance terms from 36 to 72 months for new vehicles orders must be placed by may 31st to be eligible
So in short, if you are considering purchasing a Tesla Model Y or should I say financing a Tesla Model Y and it makes sense with your time frame to pull the trigger before end of month,
It sounds like this offer only stands for the month of May 2024. So I apologize for those folks that may find and listen to this episode two, three, four weeks, months down the road. But as of May 2024, expires end of May 2024, you can get less than 1% APR with financing through TESSA for new Model Y orders.
And it says in the U.S., so for those in Canada, those overseas, I'm not sure if that offer applies over there as well. Apologies if it does not. But anyway, I want to read through a few of these comments, and before I do so, I will say...
i didn't bookmark the post but i saw a couple other posts out there actually quite a few other posts out there of hey with this new financing does this make sense should i pull the trigger i see this one uh you know particular build you know federal rebate 7 500 bucks off plus 99 excuse me 0.99 apr on financing should i do it um as i always say
You have to make that decision. Please do not let Reddit and random folks on the internet make that decision for you. One post, another post I saw just simply said, if you are not in the market or not in need of a new car, don't let this basically force you to buy a new car. Just because there's an attractive offer that expires at the end of the month,
That's what Tesla wants folks to do is obviously they want to sell cars. So they're trying to incentivize folks to do so. But please, it should go without saying, make the right decision for yourself, for your family, one that your future self would be proud of. So if you're not in the market, you don't need a new vehicle. Don't necessarily use this as an excuse to sell.
put yourself in a multi-year financial commitment just because the interest rate is low while it's an attractive deal um you know do you need that monthly car payment or not you know make that decision for yourself um anyway moving on um oh actually i thought of actually the other post that i that i considered um and they caught my attention related to this one i didn't bookmark it but along these same lines
another user, I don't have the username, so apologies if it was you, but posted, hey, with this new less than 1% APR financing option, should I pull the trigger now or should I wait for the juniper? What is the juniper cost expectations? And there were a few good comments on that post along the lines of, we haven't even seen...
you know camouflaged juniper models we haven't even seen teaser pictures of it um haven't seen spy shots of it as thankfully photographers out there always seem to catch a glimpse of it you know when it's in testing that hasn't even happened yet so it's likely late 2025 if that before that even rolls out and i think the good thing though is similar to the highland model 3
there wasn't a drastic price increase for the refreshed Model 3. You would hope it would be similar for the refreshed Model Y, the Juniper version. A few comments on that post was maybe within a few thousand dollars of where it's at now, which you got to hope so. But again, it all comes down to personal preference. If you are in the market, you need a vehicle now, you were planning to buy soon anyway, this is a great option for you.
If you're not in need of a new one, you are debating waiting for the juniper option, and you can afford to wait knowing that it could be a few thousand dollars more, then wait. But again, it comes down to make that decision for yourself because it really is just a personal decision. Finally, let me read through the comments on this post. Again, this is the one
that I just read off. It's got the screenshot of the tweet from Sawyer Merritt saying, "Breaking 0.99% APR." So the top comments on here, the first one says, "This is a huge move. Glad I waited. June might be better, but this is too good to pass up." That was the most upvoted comment from TeaseS18, so it looks like they likely pulled the trigger thanks to this offer.
Oh man, a reply to that says, I literally just signed last week with an 800 plus credit score and I got 5.6% APR. Another comment, I've got an 800 credit score and the lowest I could get was 6 point something percent in January. FML.
So it's significant. I mean, obviously Tesla's trying to sell cars. Less than 1% APR is pretty dang great. Yes, it's a new car payment that you may not have otherwise had. But when you look at the alternative of 5, 6, 7, 8%, I haven't done the calculations, but that's hundreds, probably thousands of dollars that you're saving over a three to six month loan.
Another one just purchased at 6.49% three days ago. FML. Aye, aye, aye. That's tough. Almost rubs it in your face with, hey, thanks for purchasing. But now starting this month, we're dropping the rate. So that's tough. I'm not sure if you can refinance or not. But another comment was planning on waiting until the end of summer to replace my current 15-year-old daily. This sped things up a bit. Picking up my 2024 Model Y Long Range in Quicksilver on Monday.
Oh, that's awesome. Brand new model in the brand new color here in the US at least. Punk4u, that's user imi4tth3w. And then it continues to go on, going to look nice next to my wife's 2023 short range all wheel drive in white in the driveway. That's the dream right there. Two Tesla vehicles in the garage.
Another comment, honestly, if I were buying, I'd jump on this. I wouldn't wait a few months for sales price to go down and lose this rate. I would have to agree with that. If you do plan to finance, this is, and you're in the market, you're planning to buy within the next few months, this would be enough to make me pull the trigger. But if you're planning to pay in full, you're planning to pay cash, and you do potentially expect sales prices to go down over the next few months, which is
It's tough to predict, but a lot of people are expecting that. Perhaps wait. But again, I think gather feedback on Reddit, sure, but let them inform and make your purchase decision. I try to steer clear from that. Anyway, we can move on to the next post. I just wanted to read that. That's the big news in the Tesla world, the Model Y world, at least during the month of May 2024.
This next post got my attention for a different reason. Never seen this before, but this is from user Mama Vader, posted four days ago. It says, "There's a snake in my boot." It's got a photo of what looks to be highway driving. Gotta think they're going 60 plus miles per hour. And the bottom left corner of the windshield, there's a snake popping its head up, thankfully outside the car.
But man, this would terrify me. Thankfully it's outside the car, but it seems to have wiggled its way into the frunk, the front trunk, and it's popping its head and, you know, two inches or so of its body up onto the lower left corner outside of the windshield. The next photo, it looks like the Geico Gecko almost. I mean, it's popping up with its head basically resting on the wiper blades.
just staring at the driver. So absolutely terrifying. I mean, if this was my thought, I don't know if it makes engineering or structural sense, but I would think, man, this thing's looking at me. It's going to find a way to wiggle its way into the cabin. So I got to pull over and deal with this now.
So anyway, let me read the post. It says, for most of my workday, I honestly can't believe this even happened. It's a testament to Tesla safety that I didn't get in a wreck when this black racer popped up while I was speeding to work. I did slow down, but imagine a little snake head and tongue quivering in the wind. And bear with me, this is a long post. But I want to read the detail just because why not?
It says,
which is picture two on this post. And this is one I would highly recommend. Go find the post. It was posted four days ago. So May 9th. The title of the post is called There's a Snake in My Boot. Really funny photos, even though it would not be funny if I was driving. And then, so let me continue reading it. It says, to which I replied, I won't read that part.
Anyway, got to work, called while I was parking to let them know there was a snake in my car, which was a call that started with, this is going to sound like I'm making this up, but, and I made sure to park near some trees per the rehab advice. He popped out of the view. I was able to escape. My heart rate was only 180 when I made it to my morning huddle. Spoke to my sister for a bit, figured how he got in there, figured, excuse me, spoke to my sister for a bit, figured he got in there, he could get out.
Plenty of detail in this post, but let me continue reading.
Cue a couple hours later. I want to make sure it's gone and I don't have baked snake in the front of my car. So a coworker came out with me to bravely open the frunk. Wish I had a picture, but this big ass snake is definitely still there and has some kind of injury and is coiled and ready to bite. Not venomous, but known to bite in defense.
He then promptly disappears through the space above the vents where he was popping up initially where the windshield wipers came from. I feel terrible, we didn't try and get it out sooner and into care and now I'm fumbling around calling my sister and brother-in-law for help. Brother-in-law comes, takes off the piece with the vents and the frunk piece and we see part of the snake for a second before he is out of reach underneath the HEPA filter.
He didn't believe me how big he was, so I run off to materials to get a bigger box. We try for a bit to gently nudge him out, but he's definitely not going anywhere. We decide to leave the pieces out and the front hood up and see if he'll leave on his own when we're gone. Security agrees to keep an eye on the car, and I check my cameras periodically.
Later, after my husband gets off, he stops by the state and the snake is still there. The dude was poking up and then in the wheel well area and my husband is able to somehow coax it out. Unfortunately, or fortunately, the snake was still very mobile and took off before any capture for possible rehab care. Also, I don't live out in the country or anything. I'm in a housing division with a lot of construction going on and there are woods, maybe a football field or less away.
I think we have a mouse problem, which is probably what attracted the snake. I've unlocked new fears of home and garage. Too long didn't read. There was a snake in my car, full grown black racer. He's gone now. Twas a saga. Um,
Probably should have proofread that post before I read it all. That was way more detail than we needed. But again, highly recommend taking a look at the photos. They're absolutely hilarious, at least for those of us not driving this car. Photo number two, especially the snake is, like she said, staring straight into her soul. There's an image of the frunk open. There's a circled portion of the vent and basically washer fluid area that they ended up removing.
A photo of what looks like her brother poking with a stick underneath that area to try to get the snake out. Just some hilarious photos of this snake, again, like she said, probably terrified, but just peeking out in little cracks, essentially taunting her like, hey, you're not going to get me. But a pretty dang large snake. There's a final photo of it, you know,
slithering away in the grass and it's pretty lengthy definitely would give you gotta think anyone a good scare so I think my question after seeing this post is excuse me can a snake or an animal let's say it's a mouse, it's a snake, whatever it may be if it works it's way up into the front vented area the frunk, can it find a way into the cabin
And if so, what size of animal, critter, could just be a simple spider, can work its way in? I don't know the answer to that. I figure it's probably a similar answer for all cars. It could be no cars. I'm not a mechanic, so I frankly don't know what little gaps are present that they can work their way in. So I'd be curious if any of y'all can weigh in on that. But anyway, let me read through a few of these comments.
Top one says, I don't know why, but the little fellow looks pretty cute in these pics. Glad you got them out safely. Another one says, these pictures are cracking me up. Now you see me? Now you don't. Now you see me? Now you don't. Oh, that's a good one. Next comment. Are you sure you aren't driving a Model S? Very smooth. Another comment, F no, I'm selling that car in all caps. Let's see if there's anything else.
uh a lot of people getting getting some bits off in these these comments so anyway for the pictures in the comments alone i would highly recommend taking a look at that post um mama vader glad you and glad you got that one solved um i say the pictures are funny but yeah if i'm driving that car i'm freaking out so glad you got it out you have at least the peace of mind there um
Alright, moving on to the next post. I'll keep this one as short as I can, but this one is just titled Dog Mode is Wonderful, posted by Carol R424. It's an interesting post. I thought I was going to get something different when I clicked into it, but it's a photo number one is a handwritten note that says, Very thankful for your screen message as I was concerned.
And the photo number two shows the screen message that dog mode displays within the Tesla on the big display. It says, my driver will be back soon. Don't worry. The AC is on and it's 74 degrees. There was a comment on here. Let's see if I can find it. So it made me laugh. Yeah. One of the comments on here says this person wanted to write a note, damn it. Which I agree with. Like this is a
i think an unnecessary note but but for peace of mind purposes the person leaving the note felt it was necessary and i think for those of us as dog owners that use dog mode it's uh reassuring that the display message actually works um granted there are some comments on here um i think some are some are helpful the second most upvoted comment though says people have been known to still smash the window
Top most upvoted comment, though, that I think is actually very helpful is, can we perhaps scroll through different languages on the display? You know, recognizing that not everybody speaks English. They may walk by your car and see your dog in there. The other few comments I wanted to call out about this...
Yeah, one just says make dog mode customizable. So, you know, for instance, make the font bigger on the AC is on rather than just the massive font on my driver will be back shortly. But it's a cute display. It's a cute screen. Dog mode in general is a great feature. I used it significantly over this past weekend. For whatever reason, we attempted to have go out for brunch with 18 people.
And as you can imagine, there was roughly a two hour wait to even get seated. Uh, side note, but immediately in my mind, I figured why didn't we go to Chick-fil-A or somewhere where they're all about efficiency. But that aside, um, I have my dog with me. I was on a road trip. I was there for, uh,
you know, one hotel stay. So one night, two days, we got brunch in the morning. I brought the dog with me, stayed in the hotel and during brunch, of course, couldn't come in. So during the wait, but also while we were eating, he was in the car.
uh so it was my first true usage of dog mode it was probably 86 87 degrees outside and he was in the car for a good two three hours don't worry i did go to check on them every now and then cool part about dog mode is in the tesla app it automatically gives you the option to click in and view the cabin camera so you can check in and visually see how the dog's doing at any given time um
And so it was really neat. I mean, climate control worked beautifully. It stayed on nearly the exact set temperature I wanted it on. In terms of battery loss using dog mode for two, three hours as long as I did, it was
I think I was on 82% when I started it because after brunch I was going to road trip on back home. I was on 82%. Climate was at 71 degrees. It was roughly 80, like I said, 86 to 89 degrees outside. By the end of it, I dropped down to I think it was 79%. So I lost roughly 3% of battery, which I think was well worth it to keep my dog cool and climate controlled for three hours in the car while I was driving.
eating a brunch with 18 people, which rarely ever happens. If it was near home, I would have left the dog at home. Would prefer to not have to have my dog sit in the car for three hours. But for a unique situation like that, it was absolutely perfect. I don't know what I would have done without it. So my point in reading this post is one,
The display works. It is helpful in some situations. Hopefully people actually look at it and read it and acknowledge it before breaking the window to save the dog. But two, really, really helpful. And just another one of those features with Tesla's that you can tell a lot of thought went into it or feedback was received.
and just quick solutions and just simply making a display when you leave on the ac in the car that says hey my drive will be back the ac is on essentially saying please don't break the window the dog's fine and then even in the app being able to view the cabin camera and see what's going on really really great feature don't use it for your kids but for your dogs work works great
Last post that caught my attention over the past week. This one is a very underrated, but I couldn't agree with more posts. This is from, my goodness, user NE27MK5011. Posted two days ago, so on May 11th. It says,
It's a fantastic point. I realized it actually this weekend. I washed the car when I got back from the road trip, vacuumed out the interior, wiped it down a little bit and realized, yeah, this is really easy to do. And this user makes a good point. It says 20 minutes to spray down the rubber mats, vacuum and wipe down everything, wipe everything down from the dash to the footwells. This used to take me over an hour in my BMW.
and so the top comment i wanted to read off which this is really what i agree with and what i didn't necessarily realize because personally i do kind of miss the buttons and the more luxury buttons and switches feel of of um you know dashboards across other luxury vehicles whereas tesla is completely minimalistic you got the big screen that's it but this comment here says a thousand percent agree
People complain about the lack of buttons, but that lack makes cleaning take 5 seconds like you said. There's no dust or grime buildup in sight due to no buttons. It's awesome. As a side note, I personally think the high tech tablet more than makes up for the lack of buttons. I love looking at it and interacting with it. It's the standard now for me going forward with my future cars.
So I will agree with that. I think the software itself, which is half of what sold me on Tesla, does make up for the lack of buttons. I think the only time
I miss the buttons is when I'm driving. If I need to adjust an air vent or something, or the hypothetical air vent that you would in another car. With Tesla, you have to click into the AC, drag your finger to choose the positioning of the air. With the car, you just put your hand on the air vent, move it to your liking. So it's similar, but having to touch the exact right button
button and actually look at the screen to adjust these little things here and there rather than you know you look at it once you find the knob you can look back at the road and just as you please you have to kind of look at the screen to make sure things are are calculated as you like with the the screen and no buttons so
to each their own, but this is a fantastic point that it makes cleaning so much easier. The dashboard is literally just a strip of wood and some, I believe it's soft plastic up on the dash. Then you got your screen, your center console, pretty simple flooring and seats. There's no perforations, so super easy to wipe down. More comments, it says, yep, no one talks about this, so fast to wipe down and clean up.
One asks, "What cleaning products do you use?" Another one says, "The only things I do not like about my Model Y performance is one, no Apple CarPlay, and two, those cheap-ass faux wood plastic trim panels." However, it's worth calling out, it's not fake wood. It's actually real wood on those panels.
This is an interesting one, and I think this is a great point. The OP actually replied to this and said, I actually don't mind the wood. I actually wish it had a drain plug in the front. I imagine the frunk like the Mach-E though. So that's a great point.
Anyway, that was the final post that caught my attention. I think that's something I haven't touched on. I haven't even thought about. I have appreciated it, the ease of interior cleaning, but I haven't specifically called it out. So really great point there by NE27MK5011, the user that made that post, which I appreciate as well.
um all right the bringing back the the y of the week the best looking tesla model y that caught my attention of the past week that award goes to routine bug 7207 one is just a great photo it's nighttime it says model y quicksilver picked up yesterday it looks average in the morning but looks great when it's in the dark i couldn't agree more the only thing i disagree with is get those windows tinted
uh but i'll give you some grace there since you said you just picked this up yesterday um but my goodness the quick silver looks looks so dang good that light silver color um they got the black what looks to be 20 inch up 20 inch induction wheels uh looks really really really good um top comment on this says i hope they make the midnight cherry red an option for the us market as well i can absolutely agree with that
um i agree with this one as well wish it was around when i bought yeah and this comment here we can wrap with uh says just like just like tesla to give thousands of people buyers remorse congrats on the car um so routine bug 7207 great looking car congrats to you on getting the quicksilver here in the us uh really really good looking paint cover i i personally i've never wanted a silver vehicle because i feel like when you look on the road
For good or for bad, that's all you see. It's just kind of dull, charcoal, dark, gray cars. And so personally, you know, I can't say much. I've got a black car. I like the all-black look. Doesn't stand out either. But this Quicksilver silver color is a really, really good look. It's not too flashy, but it's also not too bland to just blend in. It looks really, really good with the black accents. You know, the black...
door handles if that's what you want to call them the black side repeater cameras the black wheels man i would black out those badges too get a black license plate and black tint darker tint and you got you got yourself a perfect looking car so again routine bug 7207 very good looking car congrats on picking up the model y
And folks, that's it. That is episode 14. That's a wrap for this week. We will be back same time next week. Again, we release on Monday evenings. Typically late at night is when I'll publish these on Mondays. So you'll see it first thing Tuesday mornings.
for your daily commute if that's what you do. Otherwise, I appreciate you guys tuning in. As I mentioned at the beginning, please leave a review. If you would, five stars, written reviews are appreciated. Again, it helps people like you find the podcast. When they search out a Tesla podcast, it bumps it up in their search results. So I appreciate you guys as always, and we will see you next week.
