OK everybody. Apple just officially confirmed that new max will become in next week. We're going to talk all about IT plus an in depth review back and forth with special gas Chris li on the show for the ipad mini.

But did they do enough because there's some products there that I was like, all right, they are good products. But three years later, four years later, he still didn't do much. So let me know how you feel apple bits show at g mail dot com.

Also, the show was brought to you by you. Patron dot comes ash. Branton is high support. My content is how to support this podcast and how we've been doing IT for year after year. And thank you so much to support all IT does starts at two dolla month, five dollars, just like a cup of coffee.

Plus, yes, it's been the crazy ground of techteam and tecture ber, but there will be a live stream.

I really just have been able to IT because apple keeps on pining me with all these different things. And if you seen the channel and you've seen the podcast, you know, I think this year, this week, we pumped out four pieces of video content and the podcast, just trust me, i'm hustling. I'm not just sitting back being lazy about this.

So thank you so much for your support patron on dotcom. Such Branton is how you do IT. All right? So I LED with the top.

We're going to talk about apples announcement. This is very rare. They don't Normally do this.

But greg, jazz uc, through little tea, we're going to break IT all down with special gas. Chris lee, he's an ipad guy, so I figured let's talk ipad mini with them. So let's not wait any time.

Let's get into IT. Here's me and Chris talk in all things. Apple, what's up? everybody? I told you i'd bring an expert in the house because we are going to be talking about all things happening with ipad mini.

And then, but before we get to that, you know, I gotto introduce our guests. Please see if you have seen this content on youtube. I check IT out because he, he, this was the ipad life. Is that best way to put us?

yeah. I completely work from my ipad pro. IT is my main computer, from writing scripts to dealing with advanta pure, the business to editing video, everything is done off my ipad pro.

That's amazing. So you know that's why I wanted to bring you in here to talk ipad mini and just the whole perspective of um so are you that Chris, there any you do want this kind of plug the ways that people can find you before we .

jump in yeah sure um my youtube channel is just crisp. Her willey L A W L Y uh, you can find me there. I also have a website, the entitled outside I know wasn't IT.

I thought I was super clever at the time. Um IT has links. All all my social media staff, instagram thread massed on you name IT. It's all there as well.

Alright, excEllent. So just for people that are curious, a Christina I met at the apple events, I think maybe was IT I IT was we were I know we were in a session. Now this might have been for the m the m three, m4 ipad pro。 Yeah, I think so met yeah.

I think so too. I was a, we were sent down with a couple executives, just getting a chance. Ask some questions if I remember right?

Like how you just say that, just like brush .

IT off your shoulder like that. So.

you know, it's great. You know, as a content creator, i'm really happy to see. So what for me, what you represent is the next generation of creators. I am a little old school og, but I love to see, like the new blood, the new infusion and to be honest, but someone like you that is using the ipad exclusively as your main, that is rare, but you have a lot of great tips, a lot of great content around that. Um so you know I just giving your business.

man, thank you. Thank you so much. I really appreciate. I I remember watching your stuff h years ago like I I really enjoy IT. So it's really great to hear that coming from you. I appreciate IT.

No, it's it's all love, baby. So okay. So you know before which of the ipad? I think we have to touch on this news that just dropped yesterday because we can't do a podcast and completely ignored.

But you know, in an interesting fashion, greg jazz, at a friend of the show, he teased on his twitter with this mark, your calendars get everybody mac instead of market counters. And he said, we have an exciting week of announcements ahead, starting on monday morning. Stay tuned. So IT has a nice animation graphic he posted on twitter A K A X and IT isn't glowing icon of the mac in that kind of theory color scheme, right? The new theory color scheme, which we've been waiting and expecting max to be announced now we don't know if it's gonna.

IT doesn't feel like to me that there's gonna some big event, but when he says an exciting week, that tends to tell me that might be a trickle of maybe announcement on monday, maybe an announcement on tuesday and not just a sole announcement of a big dub. Um you know I know you're in an ipad guy, but what what's your take on you cover the apple space in general. What do you think about .

this announcement? Yeah that makes sense. You know they'll do that thing where they'll have like a bunch of press releases throughout the week. I'll start on monday, tuesday, wednesay, thursday typically don't have anything on friday, but they will be like four days of like, hey, here's a new mac mini, here's new airport POS, here's a new 啊, whatever. And so I have a feeling that this can be that I don't think it's gonna an event.

I you know I doesn't sound like there's anything too huge coming except maybe a redesign mac mini, which I I love the mac mini. I actually have one. I even though I I work exclusively from the ipad, I do have a mount mac mini. It's actually mounted right underneath this desk or um some background automation stuff er around the house and recording my podcast because uh we use a service called riverside which doesn't play well with the ipad. So uh I got this first like home assistant stuff and and that if there is a smaller mac, many coming down the road, that would be amazing.

Yeah so you know we are expecting obvious veiling of the m four chip in the mac lineup. Um rumors have reported mac mini, maybe potential obviously new mac book pro. I mean, we i've talked about a lot on my video channel and on this podcast also maybe i'm for imac.

I think when I think of an imac, I think the biggest story will be, will they finally bring U. S, B, C. To the accessories and not put the lightning import to charge your mouse on the bottom of the the the magic mouse.

Yeah, I don't. I think people will write IT again and still buy them if it's still the same location. But IT will be like one of those things within the community and the culture of apple, where everyone will either market or celebrate IT. And I will be this enormous deal.

Yeah one hundred percent like guy. I use a magic track pad at my desk with my ipad um when I plug in into a monitor. But I also use a magic track pad with my vision pro so I have two of them.

So what i'm really hoping they do is some sort of like kind like how logistic, as you can pair multiple devices to IT and there is a button to trigger through IT. Apple could probably do something a little more magical, like airports where IT detects what device you're using and then auto pairs and jumps between because the fact that I have two magic track pads is actually I have three. I forgot to I have a third one um the fact that I have three of those .

is ridiculous. Dict ous we see will find out sometime next week. I've got imagine for people that are curious last week when apple announced the ipad, I believe I was a six A M announcement. They haven't done that for a while where they kind of snuck when in on this.

I'm going to say people, it's going to require you and I to wake up a little earlier than Normal, but six pacific time, nine name for all you lucky east coast, just to keep your ears up because i'm pretty sure that one will see some of these announcements. And then like we said, will do most likely trigger to the week. So we just want to get that are out there.

So you all know, but Chris, let's talk ipad mini. You know I know you're ah mainly approved and the ipad is the burst update we've seen in a little over three years. I think it's always been a device that the community and audience that is for IT is perfect for.

And I also feel there's a group of people that just slam on IT, and it's these two words of the people that typically slam on IT weren't even planning to buy. But I feel like you want to get the frustrations out. But either way, um I think this is a great you're the great person to talk about this.

And lets kind of start off with maybe your initial thoughts. And I have both reviews the ipad mini. What's your first general over the .

top take for IT? yeah. I I love the ipad mini. I I have this theory about the ipad mini that is everyone that has IT. It's their second favorite apple product yet. They might love their iphone more or they might love their ipad pro more or they might love their mac more like that might be their primary device that they always go to. But the ipad mini is this interesting product because of the form factor.

It's like this niche product that does a few things really well, like it's kinda les answer to an ebook reader, almost like they are never going to make an even tablet, but it's kind of their answer to something like the kindle. For somebody that wants to read a book on the go, it's also kind of a great place to play games. I don't know about you, but one thing that I was really excited to see is the fact that I got the wifi update.

So what I actually have done been doing with this is I took this put IT in the razor ky altra gaming controller. It's of those ones that kind of looks like and intend switch where the controller er goes the left on the right side of the device. My P S five is plug directly in the my router and the ipad mini is connected to the six six giggle hearts band of my my wifi set up IT IT only used wifi six the ipad mini, but I still can use that tiki ga hurts span.

So i've to been streaming games from my P S five music up called mirror play to the ipad mini. And it's been working great. Like there's going to be some lencs because there's wireless.

But to me, the player, no noticeable. I played a little bit spider man, too, played a little bit of A, A grand terre. Mo, uh, worked really well.

Play stations like Chris. We don't want you to do that. We don't want you having people use an ipad mini to take that little part of our market that we have in A P S.

Play eye t wh. That's prety pretty wow. That's cool though that you said that up like .

that yeah and and I knew some people were gonna be like, why don't you just get a placation portal? The placation portal is stuck with wifi five. So there if you look at like redit and all this stuff, there's a bunch of people complaining about like, oh yeah, you can't have anything else on the five giga hurts wifi ban.

You have to separate out the two point four in the five and IT just a kind of seems like a hassle. So i've been doing this with the ipad mini. N IT works great.

I love IT. I love IT. So you know, you're talking about that where IT rest. And I think people I think sometimes people forget because the ipad mini hasn't received update in three years.

But when you hold IT, you're just like, uh like you love IT, it's like cute little thing. But you you instantly think about itself. Okay, I could put this.

This is not a big screen. I had pad. I can put IT near my coffee desk.

I could throw an arguably most bags, most man purses, the most sling bags. The single will actually fit inside of IT as well. So that makes IT really a cool portable option.

And I think, you know, your review and my review I might take away was, look, it's still a really, really good product. This whole idea that IT is a bad product is over exaggerated by a vocal minority. Ah there's things that you are going to talk about where we wish we like, things we didn't like, things we wanted see improvements on IT.

But I can I can not say in all honesty when you just look at this objectively, especially when you look at what else is out there on the market, this is not a bad product. Yes, no. Very good solid product for a specific audience.

I think the way I ve been thinking about IT is, is not a bad product. IT might it's not the greatest update. Uh, if you look at the six generation of the seventh, there's not a lot of difference you know between updates and the fact the ipad many only gets updated every three, four years on average.

That's a little disappointing for people that are like die hard ipad mini fans because there are people that will absolutely go buy a new one every time to get up because don't get up really very often. But that being said, it's still a really good product. I really enjoy IT.

It's a very niche product for me. So I have a personal six generation one. I probably won't update IT. Uh, but because the things I use IT for mostly reading a when i'm filming, I put my script on IT and that's kind of my shot list for when i'm shooting B O stuff like that and I will use the apple pencil market up and things like that. But I I think it's it's a great product at me. It's not the best update um you know going from the six hundred, but overall, it's still really good device.

Yeah let's talk about the updates. You know we know that the previous ipad mini had an a fifteen pro chip inside. This one has an a seventeen pro basically equivalent to an iphone fifteen pro, right? Like i'm all connecting the doctor.

And the biggest thing is, I always love or find IT really interesting. You benchMarks were released for this before the product really got into a large mode. People's hands, uh, for benchMarks only means so much to me because they can give you a reference of how fast IT is.

And I use that in air quotes when IT really comes out to real world use and how to perform. I thought this thing performed perfectly fine for um an ipad mini. A lot of people said, so why didn't they put and am serious chip in IT? And I don't one hundred percent notice.

For fact, potentially the m serious chip might not just be able to reform as well in this turma envelope because IT is a smaller ipad. I don't one hundred percent know that. sure. Apple will never one hundred percent tell us yeah. But you know there are some decisions with getting the a seventeen pro.

Um we know that has twice the memory as previous um IT has a base model starting point at one hundred to twenty gigs of storage, which is a nice starting point still at that four ninety nine Price point. The USB c port on is a little faster. But when you talk about the big things or the big upgrades, that's technically at least from a bigs person is looking at text pex.

If I miss something crame, that's technically the main stuff that happened from an upgrade standpoint. So like you said, we would hope I was hoping that there might be a little more IT, doesn't I don't I didn't say anything where I just kept really very baLances. I think though they couldn't done more, right. And yeah, where do you where do you think for you? They could have done more.

So for me, I think the big thing is I the big thing for everyone as they want uh, a new display and they want to hire refresh despite I today in twenty twenty four, I don't think putting IT OLED one hundred and twenty hearts display in the ipad mini, if if they were to do that, I don't think you would still be five hundred dollars. I would have to be a separate line IT would have to be the ipad mini pro.

But is there, uh, display that somewhere in between the L C D I P S display with L D backlighting and an OA display? And maybe not one hundred twenty hurts, maybe ninety hurts. Would have bit nice. Uh, but also would they would they have still been able to hit that Price point? I don't know.

Like there there's a lot of things in tech, especially like like when people like talk about like uh and update to a product like oh, they should have just done this, but that should have just done, could increase the Price, could require complete redesign. So one thing I, I, I, i've been told is that when something gets the m series chip, like when the ipad pro got the the in one p years ago, that required IT to be redesigned internally. IT may not have look different on the outside, but internally I had to be redesigned for things like the third along the p and things like that.

So just slapping in serious chip. It's not like a USB dumb stick where they can just unplugged one and plug the next one in there. There is more to IT. So I there are always things like, I would love the device to do a little bit more, but I I I cannot understand where where it's at.

And this one is definitely focused on like, hi, here's some small quality of life improvements so we can get you things like apple intelligence in the future of faster chip and and there's things that, that chip enable. So for example, final cup pro for the ipad runs on the ipad mini. Uh, I added IT a couple of shorts on IT.

I added IT some ad spots on IT. And well, it's not exactly the biggest canvas to work. Edit on IT works IT totally works at no performance issues I use, uh can in our five to film all of my footage.

So everything's 4k and A A couple of climbs for one hundred and twenty frames per second。 Some are sixty, some were twenty four. And at that timing, just IT felt smooth. Yeah.

you know, again, this is when the real world meets the benchMarks. If everything you do can be done efficiently and really in the same way on the device people don't talk about, they look at the speck. And i'll, you know beyond st, the people that typically complain about these speck things aren't even using the device to its full as like are they making four k videos on an ipad? Many they're probably not.

They're thinking of maybe gaming and then they're up in armers about and i'll talk about a jelly score, right? So yeah, those are so again, like the noise versus the reality, there's always a big disconnect. And I just for whatever reason, I feel like that disconnect is continues to can get bigger and bigger where maybe it's just not as fun to take a sensible take on these products before they come out in the scream and yell at the top of amount that this is horrible.

Even if i'm not gonna this product and even if this product is not for me, i'm gonna scream about IT. I something has shifted. I feel like in the text space where i'm not since its predominant negative, but i'm feeling more of a negative energy that has been coming through lately, maybe in the past year.

So about instead of just taking the devices for what they are talking about, what stands out, what does in what you like, what you don't IT has, the first of all, go onto the the tire rate. I'm just that's what I don't know if you felt this energy at all. I just feel like it's starting to surface more and more.

And part of IT is I think that there's a passionate user base of apple products. And there the only company that I feel like people get mad when they don't give them a reason to buy something right. So it's weird. It's weird like you didn't give me a reason by this this socks wait, I I, I don't I don't get that there's there's some disconnect that I swear yeah .

no I I am completely with you and I I think IT almost comes down to psychology little bit like us as humans. We fix IT on the negative over fixing on the positive a little bit. So I completely great.

I think a vast majority of people are positive. And yes, there are negative things. This could have been a much Better update. I will completely agree with that. But I also don't think this is an update for like if you have the six generation ipad mini, the last one, the one that was the new redesign, I don't necessarily think this is an update you have to have unless there is like a really particular feature that like, yes, this will this will enable something for me that I will get a lot out of this.

This is for the people that are either interested in getting into the ipad, many for the first time, or maybe even still have an ipad mini with like one of the home button ipad mini. So like I I, I always, whenever I review something, always trying to take a step back and think about who this is for. You know, if it's in a ipad air, this isn't four people like me that are using their ipad as their main computer.

It's not for people that are going to be uh heavy artists and stuff like that. This is kind of the ipad air. It's sits in the middle or the base ipad that's typically for students or something like that. So not everything needs to be the super high and proof vice. There are different levels to a tech and I totally think that's okay because he gets people in at different Price pots to try new things. Um I mean what interest me in tech back in the day, uh, was my dad are very first family computer was uh something we got at a garage cell and we just fixed IT up IT wasn't a high end apple computer or high end macbook pro r or something like that IT was just something we got that was a project back in the nineties that we fixed up and that's why i'm totally okay. But there are being different levels and not everything has to be a prodesse .

yeah I think I think when I look at the ipad mini, the biggest thing and uni talk about twenty twenty four, I I don't know how you feel about this. I'm not even obsessed about bezzle, but at least on this product three years later after last one and I get that we talked about um you know how redesign in X Y N Z, but I really feel like those bezzle look a lot thicker on a eight point three and display just the ratio when I even forgot healthy.

The bezzle were until I was like, oh, now I didn't make me dislike the product but IT was definitely if I had to say if there was one display thing they could have tweet again. I know they're using, you know, they have optimized display a little Better, but those bezzle are a little too thick, a little too thick for me. And I like thick things, but not vestals like thick.

bro. Yeah, they are. They are definite thick. I don't think that bothers me as much because I think of that kind of like an era almost where you like you have to have a place to restore thumb and you don't want to rest IT on the display because they knew you accidently tapping something. So I get IT, but yeah just looking at the device, the bezzle are very thick. Uh, but I just the ipad in that nature, I I think all ipads, even the ipad pro has some really thick bezzle as well.

But yes, uh, I I don't know how much IT is of the display needs that versus uh just use ability of like oh and ipad with no no bezzle because if you think about like the ipad in the way you hold that you react dom on the screen, the iphone you typically don't do that. You like rested on your pinky or something like that. So your thun is not constantly resting on the display. So I don't know if it's so much like, hey, this is a use ability thing versus what we can do with the displays that we have.

Yeah I mean an I think with the process, right, the bezzle are definitely thin or me those are the things bezzle we've seen on any ipad device. And so i'm not saying they have to go that skinny, but IT IT is it's it's a nice thing. I mean, we like the big trees haven't touched upon is the apple pencil pro integration, right? So for people that are curious, this new ipad mini supports the apple pencil U.

S, B, C. And then the new apple pencil pro, but previous apple pencil do not. There is a new kind of connection system, new magnets somewhere to what happened with the ipad pro.

So you're getting that put, you know, IT was nice to see as someone who has an apple pencil pro and uses IT in in a variety ways, I decide IT was nice to see them bring that to the ipad mini because typically, you know oh, it's a pro pencil. Hate the fact that they brought that integration. I mean, quite only three years later, they should. I just like seen that the highest level pencil works on their most entry level. I guess I won't say entry level because there's a there's a Normal entry level ipad, but IT works on the mini.

I thought that was a great thing yeah um to me this is the obvious cleanup of the apple pencil line. So they dropped apple pencil too. There is no ipad that are currently on sale.

If you go to the ipad tab on apple 点 com, there are no ipad that support the apple pencil tail. It's either A U S B C apple pencil pro or the base ipad, the first gene apple pencil. Now I have a feeling when the base ipad that three twenty nine one gets updated, that first generation apple pencil will go away.

So we will just have apple pencil, which will be the U. S, B, C one and apple pencil pro. And you can pick which one you want, you know, whether you want to U, S, B, C one or the pro one.

And I am very excited to see that because up until this point, you know, a couple weeks ago, every apple pencil that has ever been made was still on sale. You know, first generation through the process that was kind of IT was kind of weird. But apple actually has on their website, if you go to the apple pencil tab, they have A A really great graph of, like all the feature sets, the difference between the U S B C.

One and the pro one. And and I think it's really good. The other thing this ipad mini got to and IT doesn't matter if you use the U S.

B C one or the pro one is IT got apple pencil cover. Uh, and when I don't draw, what I love about this is I use the apple pencil is kind of like almost like a mouse. And the apple and apple pencil cover the cover future, kind of access, the curse.

So IT chose like what you're about to tap on. And while it's not game changing, it's not at a ten x productivity anything like that. It's just a nice little interaction feature.

Yeah you know um you've been around the ipad line a lot, obviously is there for you. I mean, I talked about some the display stuff. Um is there a thing that you really wish that they did with this many doubt would have made IT maybe a little more allowing to you because based on your your workflow, you don't need the most spect out ipad mini. But is there something that when you say, hey, IT was a an upgrade three years later, what is one of those things for you that you wish that they did?

I I think for me, considering I use this as a device to just read on like it's it's mostly for me either reading scripts, my scripts or reading books or even reading comic books or something like that. Uh, a ninety hearts display would would have been nice. Uh, just because that makes the scrolling a lot smoother, I don't think a hundred like promotion is is very much on the the promotion one hundred twenty first technology.

Apple users is very clearly right now locked off to their their pro devices. It's on the iphone pro. It's on the ipad pro, it's on the macbook pro. Uh but it's twenty twenty four. We should probably stop moving away from sixty hearts to display and probably want minimum of ninety.

Uh, so I and I know it's not as simple as like, oh yeah, you just put a ninety hearts display and there there be redesigned there would display controller reconfiguration go it's twenty twenty four. I was three years later. There should have been something display wise to .

make you a little .

more significant exactly.

Um you know I think the biggest thing that people have been talking about, I I do feel like the tax base has been over talking about IT um because I don't think most people, even when I saw their views, could really tell a about the jellyby grow. Now for me and for you you you know you still own an ipad mini six for me. I I mean, when I was throwing up and down, I just didn't see that.

I know what jEllies score looks like. I didn't sit on. Some people came at me like this outlet said there's jEllies grown like, well, I have the video evidence to prove what i'm seen.

Another people are saying, I love the one whether like, oh, they've greatly reduced IT, so you can barely tell IT there and I like, well, okay, so how much of an issue was IT for you if now you can barely tell there? But anyways, what was your take on the geological cus for me? Uh, I didn't see IT. I didn't.

Yeah, so I didn't see IT either. So what I did is I, so I still have my six generation wanted. I put them side by side and I have this overhearing above my desk, and I point of the camera down, set up to one hundred and twenty frames per second capture, and just SAT their scrolled back and forth to see if I could see anything.

And I can clearly see IT on the six generation one, but I could not see IT on the new one. I talk to a few other reviews that, you know, after the embargo, rop and stuff, and they were like, I cannot see that. I I don't know what I I, I don't even know. I don't know if you want to say the name.

but H, I can say that, I can say the verge is to get stuck out. And because of their place in the text space, a lot of people immediately said, well, the verge said that, so you're wrong. Yeah.

I got that too.

And I nice, I was like, what what are you talking about?

What are they look at that? And I have, and I have the theory. I can't back IT up unless if I was to go buy a bunch of ipad mini like like twenty ipad mines in our boxes.

But I have a feeling IT might not be the same on all of them. Uh, so my when I got the six generation one, when I got my review unit one, you know, early back in the day of the six generation one, I didn't really notice jelli scrolling at all. But then when I got my personal one, I noticed that a lot more like IT seem like IT was a lot more aggressive.

This is not enough data to to declare like, yes, it's not. So please, no articles, no, Chris said it's device. This is not enough data to prove that um this is just my own anio t so but I do kind of wonder if it's a little more device specific. Maybe I again don't have enough data to prove a one where another .

I think I think you bring up a different interesting perspective of look based on your experience. With the last minute, you can tell there was a difference between two models. And we don't again, we don't know know this.

We haven't been able to collect twenty different ipad, many seven from different elements, and all do the goal together. And so that, that is an interesting take that maybe there could be some slight variation. We do know typically when apple producer displays, they don't always come from the same supplier.

Yes, right. We've known that. So maybe there are again, we're not trying to start a conspiracy, but you bring up a plausible thought that maybe there are some inconsistencies because I I when people say jEllies schools and like, what are you talking about?

Yeah, I was like, I don't see anything. I know what this looks like. I don't see anything at all.

I I literally put the two IP as the six generation, the right next each other and watch IT and I could clearly see IT on the six. I could not see IT on the seventh. Like it's just I maybe I don't know, I was going to say baby, because i've getting ordered, but like I I had a right to other at the save time. I I I can't see IT you know .

how different people give off like a different magnetic field. Maybe maybe it's it's too differently depending on the feel that you eminent and IT affects the display in some way they perform. But um you know it's I don't I don't think that, that debate will now after this even seen what happened this year. I guess the whole jEllies school issue is going to stay here forever and the debate will rage on until maybe one day the display gets ninety hurts or something different right?

Well, that so jEllies stroling is a product of L, C, D. displayed. So just panel in the apple. Take take a loss and money.

You know it's also interesting, right? Um we had that kind of in between phase where apple did do a mini L D for the ipad pro. Yeah and I my hunch and well, you know I I love to hear you're take on IT.

Clearly, manufacturing and all new display for the ipad mini was not what apple intended to do. And the reality is that we don't even know this. We never we know more.

We don't know the sales numbers of how many people actually buy these, right? We know there's there's clearly an audience for IT. And the other thing that we don't factor and everyone says, oh, why did you do this?

Why you do that is maybe they just don't sell enough for them to justify rebuilding a lot of this. And they know that to meet a little bit of chicken and egg, they could have done more and maybe they would have sold more units, but maybe their historical data shows that. Well, this is kind of the audience who gets this.

And we do know there are some people that really want more from IT, but the large vast majority of ipad mini users will be okay with this. I you know there there's always this debate of like, oh, is, is apple doing enough to upgrade this? Are they are they slow playing this, right? We've seen what has happened with the iphone where, look, these products have generally play told, but IT always feels like apple sometimes doing little the long play, the slow pitch with the iphone upgrades. Definitely, if you look at the airports max this year, you know this is four years later that that that's a criminal, that's arguably criminal from a technology company. With that, the upgrade we ve got four years later.

i'm wearing airports max right now. And I was so disappointed in that update. And in a way, that update was actually a regression. So I use their, the ministry called podcast, and they had a cable that was the lightning to three point five millimetre cable.

So yet a zero lencs over wired connections, which is what you really need for podcast, there is no U S B C version for the new ones. So there there's kind of a regression happening with those airport. Ah so disappointed. I think that was the update that hurt me the most .

this year because, you know, we had heard from the rumors that, okay, they weren't gonna probably do too much with IT. But I think the belief is like in your head like but it's four years later, they didn't change. I need the chip processing.

Like you said, they take a step back. There is literally colors on a port. I mean, you use the exact word that I use my review IT is I said this was the most disappointment product from apple and tony twenty four, yeah, that's honest.

They know that too. There's a reason i'm going to tell you there is a reason why we did. We got at least of the follow vent.

There's a reason why they didn't send out their podds max units for people to review. That tells you something right. It's the little details that happened. Widen a single text viewer, get a new airports, max of you, because they they knew the the, the, the and to that point, we don't see too many people talking about IT as much. You know, I covered the apple space, so I I went him, you know, got him to review. But that again, they there would have been more talk about IT if they really put in the hands of once reviews, there would have been, yeah there just doesn't been that many people reviewing IT.

to be honest yeah no. And they are pricy. I mean, the five hundred city box, like I you know, I didn't go buy a pair because I like, I don't know if I can justify this Price for a video might might make IT back and might not like who who knows so like, I was just like, i'm like, i'm just gonna void. I like i'm not going to do IT if if I don't need something personally or if apple doesn't send IT to me like like you said, I I am my review box right over there just the left of me of all the stuff from that event literally send me everything but the .

airpower s max yeah saying so there there's A N reason behind that. Um so I mean, I know we jumped over the airports. Max um time out upgrades and updates, but you know what I guess from a standpoint of are we thinking that we don't know this but will based on what we have, I mean is the is the current many probably locked in for another three, four years, like how what what do you think?

So I I have this theory on this and and uh uh Jason, now kind of uh I don't know if you know who that is. He he does the six colors, a website and an upgrade powers. H, he posted on master on, uh, that he won't be surprised if this ipad mini gets, uh, apparently I just set off.

Uh, siri. H.

I didn't OK anyway. Sorry about that. Okay, so here is the theory that, uh, this ipad mini could get updated in two years.

So we know this is the eight seventeen pro in this, in this ipad mini, which was the first generation three nana chip from T. S. M.

C. I'm going to get real nerdy here for going to do abbe this. This chip is was is a known issue.

They stopped producing this chip very quickly because they had a ton of loss and Normally IT was not great. Everyone, everyone that had an iphone fifteen pro probably felt this. Their iphone got heart really quickly, doing not wild test, not you know raw photo at in or anything like that.

Just using IT IT could get really warm. So uh, this again is using the s seventeen pro. That's the same check that from the I phone, except the fact that actually just has five G P course and not six G P course.

So I have a feeling it's a been chip, which basically means when they tested this trip, if one GPU core failed and instead of throwing away away, they use IT in these bend processes. But T S M C is not making this first generation three anoma tre chip. They moved on to the second generation three nanometer tre chip, which is what's in the enforce in the a teen and A A teen probe.

So I have a feeling that they are just going to use up the amount of and chips that they have. And then when they hit a certain threshold, ld, they will go OK time for an update time to for the next ipad mini. So they're probably already working on the next ipad mini. I mean, i'm sure they're already working on the next I had these things take years to make, but I wouldn't be surprised if IT comes before three or four years, if it's in two years or maybe three years maximum, but I wouldn't expect you to be like four years.

So yeah, I mean, everybody bucked up. I I mean, that's the assumption of just how this line has evolved in I we can talk a little bit about IT. I don't even I would have this as a reviewer.

I would be happier with some of things you I talked about a little higher refresher ate, maybe make the beatles a little slimmer to me. The chip I haven't felt held. I did not feel held back by the chip of other games I played.

IT was fine. IT was. And I have not. Up to this point, even during all my tested, I don't know about you because you are pumping out video, did you feel getting super hot and comfortable? Ly.

never, I never got hot for me. Um that was something I was really paying attention to be that that was the thing that maybe raised my eyebrows when the press release for the ipad I came out and I saw was the a Price really. Because I I knew those chips got hot, but that is something i've been paying attention to with the ipad mini.

Now the ipad mini is going to be firmly it's going be different from the iphone. It's it's a bigger device, it's gonna more space. Um so that that that is a pleasant surprise.

But you know it's it's it's something i'm happy with. I didn't get hot. No set up indexing is typically when these device so you can get hot didn't feel IT there. Didn't feel IT when I was exporting four k video. So yeah i'll take IT.

Yeah I mean, like we said, I I think everything that we've talked out and talk now IT IT is really a still a very good device. H whatever whatever dreams people want to have. Okay, that's fine. Now let's let's talk about a little Better about the future. Do you think, in your opinion, they will ever make an ipad mini pro type product?

Because I yeah I think if the sales for the ipad mini showed that like if they had a apple clearly has no problem killing devices. Look at the iphone, many wine like they have no problem killing devices that don't sell well.

So ever feeling the ipad mini cells well enough to justify that Price, but probably not enough to justify an ipad mini pro because if I did, we would already have one A I just I think it's just one of those devices that's gonna stick there. We've had reports about how, you know, Normal people like bigger screens. They like the you know, they'll take the ipad air over the ipad mini.

And if you could take a step back that kind of the ipad lineup if you go back to the old Steve jobs days of like when he had like the four computers and the box of like uh, the consumer laptop, the consumer the top, the pro laptop in the prodest top, the consumer laptop of the ipad lineup is the ipad mini. Consumer desktop is the ipad air. Then you have the eleven ipad pro in the thirteen I ipad pro. So I I kind of think it's just there to meet a Price point and for the people that want IT, but I don't. I I think if IT sold, like if I IT did crazy numbers, there would already be an ipad mini pro.

And and you know, here's the thing, and I just wanted I was checking this while you were talking, you know, we know that apple and in the tim cook, they are very strategic about having a device that basically every step Price point. Look, the mini right now is four ninety nine. The entry level ipad air eleven model starts at five ninety nine.

So there's not even really you do you think about, okay, where's the space that this product would fit? I look at the thirteen and air that is seven ninety nine. So to me, the only spot where a mini pro would make sense would be to somehow wedged in there as a six ninety nine product, right? But that's a lot for that size of device.

That is you think about IT, why would you even get I mean, IT would be IT would be such a niche device and line up. Why would you get a ipad mini pro that is six ninety nine when an eleven inch air is five nine, nine? I think you would if if given that decision, I think most people would probably just get an air .

for five ninety nine. Yeah oh, absolutely. And and as we note the Price of technology comes down, so eventually the Price of OLED displays will come down to the point where they can go into the ipad air and the ipad mini and the ipad pro will move on to whatever the next display check is.

I think it's micro idea is supposed to be the next big thing, right? Um so eventually IT will come down to IT or will trickle down. That's that's what we've like. We've seen apple pencil is the perfect example. The apple pencil started specifically for the ipad pro line and then IT came down to all the other devices. These things will trickle down eventually, but they have to be able to justify the cost of the pieces in order to put the product together for the Price point because they can't make an ipad mini that's a thousand dollars. Nobody would buy that.

Ah maybe one person might, maybe one there is that niece group of apple fans that literally buy everything that apple makes. Yes, I don't know. I'm actually so curious what the number show because they know this.

What is that percentage of apple user that literally buys everything that apple makes, right? I don't know if it's one percent. I don't know it's tired than that or if it's less than that. My hunch would be less than one percent of the user ways, but I am so curious who that user or what those what the demographic and make up of those users aren't what that actual numbers of the person who little would be like. I'll buy everything because I feel like there's definitely a lot of them on in the comments that uh make you know that um yeah so you know I think for you you know Normally I raise my stuff on like you know whatever a good apple, bad apple, soul, whatever but on a scale one to ten, where what what are you reading the ipad mini and not just throwing this out to you of the top, your head boat, where where do you think that falls for you as a product? I know this can be personal depend on on how people use IT, but if we remove ourselves from IT, yeah where where where where you think of that skills to take IT IT rest for you.

okay. So let's let's define the scale. So for me, like a ten would be the m for ipad pro, IT is exactly what I wanted from an ipad row update.

Oh, I display a super fast. I can get all my work done from IT. I love the magic keyboard upgrade.

I would say this probably falls into like a six or seven, six point five era. Like the ipad mini is a great device. It's absolutely great.

IT has rum to grow, but I just don't it's not at a point in time where I can grow beyond what IT is right now. So yeah and it's the device I use like IT is it's like if I if I were to rank the device I use the most. Obviously, ipad pro is the number one device I use.

And my work from IT, I sit in front of IT all day long. Then there's my iphone that you know the computer I take with me when I get go out of the house, you know, take photos on things like that. But that ipad mini is that third device for me.

It's where I do all my reading. It's where I do research. And can I just mess around on the internet and stuff like that? But yeah, I could be Better. But I just like we've talked about, I don't think IT can be just yet.

Yeah and the other thing you know, when we talk about scaling at one to ten, I I was sitting around us seven hours like I was not comfortable even giving in to seven point five only for the reason I think like you like you ve said, they could have one a little more that can I maybe bump ed IT up to a seventy half or eight, right? They really could have um but you know for whatever reason, whether it's the main cause, they know the numbers.

They they choose not to um I also think m for you right the m four ipad pro that is going to be remain right bason yeah use devices now for someone like me who owns in I M for ipad pro. I think I skipped the, I skipped the year between. So I skipped two years before I went to the m for ipad pro.

For someone like me who does most of his work on a computer, you know a the having an ipad pro is already like in a way of luxury because it's my big screen portable device that I take with me on the road when I travel, I still have the keyboard I don't need to do and I could if I want to, but I don't really need to do too much on IT. Um I just like the big screen. So for me having a mini on top of laptop on top of and for ipad pro, that to me is kind of gets into luxury territory of what that devices for me.

And that's why IT doesn't hold as much significance. And I think about even with all the stuff uni talk about, even if they gave IT a ninety hurts refreshed, even if they did a Better puzzle on IT um I don't I don't know if I would still buy IT just only because of how IT fits into my life but from a production same point you know maybe it's my prompter. I can see that right I didn't see IT just as a teleprompter, but that's an expensive teleprompter yeah you don't need that.

You can even use phone. You don't need to buy a mini for a prompter. But um yeah so so that's right. I would sit on a seven year when you said six, six point five seven else like yeah maybe this is six, but I I think I think i'll stick .

with like seven yeah I think like six, seven somewhere in there like like I said that to be getting I think it's a great product product rise IT. Like let's take to take a separate update in product, product, right? I think it's a great product update. Why not so great and update? But yeah, that's just kind of the way and take you about IT.

all right, so that you know that our review, the ipad mini, I was just, you know because you're such an you know deepen of this ipad thing, I was just kind of curious before wrap things up, you've been around the ipad a lot. What and what is the matter, whatever series of if IT supplies the ipad pro, that's fine. But what is maybe a thing that you really hope or want for them to do that could help enhances how you use IT even more right?

Is like, i'm sure, a few things of crush your mind. But what is maybe one of things you want to see, not one. But what are some of things you would like to see them do? I guess you're looking over your ipad pro specifically with the ipad pro. What are some things you hope that .

they bring to the table in the future? So I I literally have a whole document of stuff I want able to do like I and it's definitely been forward to people our people. I I will admit that um but so if we're talking hard wired wise, I want apple get weird but that the I the original ipad pro was a weird piece of hardware in when in its time massive tablet that you know you could connect the keyboard apple pencil IT was a weird product.

I want apple get weird again. I want folding ipad like and I know folding folding. Bonds and stuff are not super nice, like they have plastic screens and things like that.

They're not the nicest thing in the world. But like, I love the idea like an ipad mini that opens up until like an ipad air size or a loving inch ipad promise something like that that would be. But a lot of my wireless revolve around ipad.

O S, yeah, yeah. Multi tasking. Like I have tons of improvements to stage manager. I want like stage manager kind of where I live because I use a thirteen and ipad pro. It's always on it's in the keyboard case or connected to a monitor.

Something like that, something that bugged me is like the four apple window limit. And it's it's not even four apps in a stage that's the limit. It's for windows of an APP.

So for example, if I have male open calendar reminders in safari, but I hit that new compose window in mail and actually kicks out the APP that I used last so so that's reminders IT kicks that out so you can only have four open at a time. Um they're setting changes. The stage manager time machine would be a big thing for me. Uh, right now I i've kind of living on the edge because the only way to back up an ipad is eyes clb back ups and IT only does that when it's locked in power and plug in the power yeah there there's a lot of things like ipad O S. Could use that I could just really like make working from an ipad a little bit nicer.

I think I mean, to me, you're kind of one of those people that they should definitely listen to because it's remain right. There's if you look at the that's why I really find you to be unique in the space in general, there's not too many people that are using this as their main device.

So I hope that whatever list you forward to them, that they do listen to IT sensibly you know um you know you didn't remind me of something that we didn't talk about and will jump back to the many real quick. And I don't think IT needed IT. But for whatever reason, some people were like, what about stage manager on the ipad mini? And I was like, it's too small away.

It's small. You even sometimes feel like you wish that they even reduced how much space that little column on the sign stage manager takes to give you more love. right?

Tip, you can turn that off if you can actually turn that. So it's called the strip on the left side. If you go into settings multi, you can turn off that recent strip.

Absolutely turn. I never knew that. I honestly do. They don't talk. I mean, see, I should probably watch my reviews. I honestly didn't know because I remind me, like the dog, we don't need the dog to be there .

if you wanted know how they ge ager works like every and out of that, I didn't like a twenty minute video on like every little detail of stage ager and its behavior a couple years ago.

But it's still relevant because they did change anything on IT with ipad um but yeah it's there is a lot of weird behavior with stage manager like if you were to tap on an APP IT opens IT in a new stage but if you shift, click on an APP and open in into your current stage. So there's a lot there that a that needs to be worked out. But I also agree with you stage friends on ipad mini IT doesn't make any sense.

It's too small. The thing I could see them doing is, yes, it's split view on the ipads display, but maybe add extra monitor support in the future. And that external monitor support is obviously stage manager. But I I think the ipad mini itself is is way too small for IT.

Yeah, absolutely. Okay, Chris. Um this was awesome. Thank you so much for you know joining the pod test and sharing your inside and your perspective because like I said, it's really unique and it's fine.

You know, do you have any other last words? Do you think you're good? Or do you wanted kind of pump up where they can find you again so people can say, hey, I heard about this in beginning. Now I will follow this guy.

Yeah, yeah. Well, first off, thank you for me. Time is great child about all this stuff and was great me, new new york earlier this year.

Yeah, yeah, if you want to, I do a tony stuff about the ipad. I also cover other things too, like iphone in general tech. But mostly most of my stuff is about the ipad and apps and automation and productivity and stuff like that. So my youtube channel, Christopher li L A W L Y, uh you you can also just search for ipad videos and will probably be the one that pops up but yeah uh, if you're interested in the ipad, you can follow me over there. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments hey.

you, you need to pump you also recently, not recently, but a little while he will start your own podcast into, yes.

I need to remind you of this, sir. Yes, yes, yes. So I also have a podcasts called comfort zone.

I hosted with another youtube in our friend millian, uh, who does a lot of writing over on mac stories. Uh, we are part of the max stories podcast group. Uh, in the whole point of the podcast, we wanted to get ourselves out of the same stuff. We we all kind of felt like we kept covering the same thing over over again.

So the idea the podcast is every week we each bring something new to talk about and then there's a chAllenge to kind of a push us out of our comfort zone, uh and and to to try something new like this week we had to try a new former most side tasking. So I actually turned off split view, and I M, I turned off stage manager and went back to split view. And he was kind of interesting going back.

The first is going to handle that. I don't know how your brain can .

handle that so it's it's an interesting uh, show. I love doing IT there. They're also really great people to work with so uh yeah go go check that out.

amazing. All right. Um Chris will do this again.

Thanks so much for your time and will talk somebody alright, awesome. Thank you so much. right? Yeah, alright.

So that was a fun chat with Chris. Just some good insights and hope you all enjoy that in. I'd love to hear what you think about the ipad. If you want to be a part of IT you want, I ask you all to, you know, calin leave your thoughts. Te, you can still do IT record a voice memo s sended in apple bits show at g mail dot com.

All right, before we go to get to give a big, big thanks to our platinum apple supporters at the one hundred dollar level that's brand and lanford gilkin a Wesley fraser, Michael giggly, atti onic, eg. And gregory for thank you so much for all of your support and thank you to all of you will continue to support my content at every level, and I hope you are enjoying all the content that I bring to you. And we do have another piece and exclusive, uh, interview coming up next week.

So I think you should just hold on your buts for that. Actually, with all the apple mac stuff, I gotto figure word of IT that, and maybe don't go the following week, but have a lot of really great stuff come in your way. So thanks so much.

Again, we're supporting and listening what we back here. Same bad time, same bad channel. Is the apple bit sexy? Baby peace.
