BBC Radio. BBC Radio. BBC. Right now, it's the BBC Music introducing Mixtape with Emily Pilbeam. MUSIC PLAYS

It's the latest one from Pale Blue Eyes on Six Music. It's called Scrolling. It is taken from their brand new album, New Place, which is out now. I feel like every single tune we get from Pale Blue Eyes is just full of euphoria. They were on with Chris Hawkins the other day when he was in for Craig. You can listen back to that on BBC Sounds if you missed it. Got this to play for you now on the Introducing Mixtape.

a spectacular debut single from Grace Monaco. This is Depression Nap. I take a nap, halfway through the day Three minutes close on my birthday Meditation apps don't work, it's so frustrating I turn my toys around

My dog said FHD, I have eight bones, what the hell does that mean? I don't, that's all I mean, but I don't really care because I am the queen in my head. It's magic things, I wanna know. This is the dream, it was the best that I ever had. I'm lonely, but at least all my dreams know how to get me out of my sleep.

I've woken up, my friends giving up Tried to spend, and I dribbled shit

I know.

That is the debut single from Grace Monaco on Six Music. It is called Depression Nap. I'm getting a bit of a Grimes vibe from that tune. Really, really loving it. Really cool synths and beats running through that. Apparently that is the first taste of an EP coming out in June.

Hello.

Hope you're doing okay. Happy to be here with you this week. Got loads of great music to play for you in the next hour. Loads of great music that's kind of been clogging up the Introducing Mixtape for the past like six weeks or so. I think the Six Music Festival meant that there's loads of tunes I've just not had chance to get away yet. So I'm going to be doing that between now and the next hour.

Also, we have got a brand new featured artist for you this month. And I mean, I'm always excited by our featured artists, but this month it is the absolutely wonderful Jessica Winter. She's just announced her debut album, My First Album, which is coming out on the 11th of July and dropped a storming new single as well. So I'm excited to hear from Jessica later on in the show.

Music for you on the way from Man Woman Chainsaw. You may have heard Steve playing that a lot on Six already. And also new music from Manchester punk duo Cooper T, which features Mr Sleaford Mods, so that's nice. I'm going to replay you last week's track of the week as well, and a brand new track of the week for you too.

But first up, got this Gorge One to play for you from Claudia Fanolio, an artist I've been supporting a lot on my Introducing show in Leeds and Sheffield. I just think she's such a talented artist, writes great indie pop tunes, and I do think she is miles ahead of others in the kind of field or genre that she's in.

This is brand new from Claudia Finolio. This is Julia. It's 4am and I don't know what to do. It's 4am and I got nothing to lose. I'm breaking bets I made. Just wanting you. Julia misses you. Bad decisions. I've made it too far. Or even think about it. But I should have left it.

Down 34th Street, I stood left at your feet. You're sitting right there. So I drove around, gave me something to do. I drove around, gave me something to prove. I'm so confused. You're a Mrs. Hugh, darling.

I've made it.

But I should have left it. Now I'm a 34th street. Yeah, I should have left it. You're sick, smell the blood, it's all I have. Trying to love, it's bad. Trying to love, it's bad.

You're the one. You're the one to protect your skin.

Places you have in your world Your world Sounds like he's not crushing under pressure And feels so much better Things feel like they fix themselves It's a real blissless But man's not crushing under I can feel so much realistic Demand the impossible Being successful is being uncomfortable You're a world of dust See how we've come so far Goodbye stuff, you're a world of dust

I never missed this over night. I saw your work.

It's my track of the week from last week. That is Shale and Work Dog. Shale are a band from Cardiff, been supported a lot by their local introducing show and by Hugh Stevens as well. I know that he's a big fan of theirs. Right now it's time for another track of the week for you. Six Music.

The BBC Introducing Mixtape. Track of the week. So every single week, I sift through the BBC Introducing uploader and everything that has been forwarded over to me. And I basically decide what tune I think is the strongest one that has been sent our way. The creme de la creme, if you will. And this week, I have gone for the new one from Cassia.

So Cassia are an indie band supported by Introducing and Stoke. They've been supported by them for a really long time. This band have been building and building for years and I think they are currently releasing the best stuff they've ever written. This one in particular bowled me over when I heard it in the Introducing uploader. They've kind of thrown everything at this and I think it sounds outstanding. It sounds exotic and fresh and still has that distinctive Cassia sound as well.

So this is the title track of the album, which is out now if you want to check it out. This is Cassia, my track of the week with everyone outside. I'm trying to stay.

Everyone feels alright outside. Feels alright. That's my track of the week this week from Cassia. That is Everyone Outside. Their album is out now if you want to check it out. They are on a big tour currently. They've just played America, now in Europe, and then they're going to be heading back to the UK in May. I will be playing that for you again on Hugh's show tomorrow, so if you liked the sound of that.

listen to Hugh from 4 but we are going back to the playlist now every single track that you are hearing on the show has been sent to us via the BBC Introducing uploader bbc.co.uk forward slash introducing if you would like to get your music to us so this is a debut single it comes from an artist that goes by the name of Shake and I just think this track is sick

Really impressed with this from Shake. This is 125. I'm on a wave with Tidal Force and I'm...

Out with my mates in out of the way estates Abandoned blocks, broken doors and gates Pure clouds from drawers of haze With shell done dons and plans to get paid Dad said work for the money and save Run out of love too much that I gave I'm the ones with my foot to the pave Like that one, spliff get blown 125 Twist and go, fly through that park in my zone 0-1-2-1, that's my home Like that one, spliff get blown 125 Twist and go, fly through that park in my zone 0-1-2-1, that's my home

When it doesn't compute, they get all, what's happened to you? Be safe, stop your running pies. Stop your money getting stuck in the crowds. It's like a beast thing.

chatting pies, have your money, getting stuck in a crowd, it's like a beast, the beast will conquer all of you alone. Leave you with sauce, it's trainers, little bit, little bit of rust, for the flavour, that you need to steal, lifting doesn't matter when it's real, 220 plates on deals, lost a lot, but yeah, it's kind of his fault, in money pots, little boys now crushing rocks, 220 plates, walks right into their house, because they're 20, 20, gotta be safe,

You're down the pocket, you know you're safe. You're making all the kids think you're tough, safe. I think you need a good slap. You've got a beast, safe. Yeah, that'll do for the... Beast, safe.

That is Cooper T featuring Jason Williamson off of Sleaford Mods fame and one stop on the BBC Introducing mixtape with me, Emily Pilbeam. I have to be honest, when I was listening through to the Introducing upload of this week, I didn't expect to hear Jason from Sleaford Mods on a tune, but a really strong collaboration from them.

If you don't know Cooper T, Cooper T is the collaborative effort of two unnamed artists who write about the reality and brackets hilarity of working class life in Manchester. So it feels kind of obvious that they'd work with Sleaford Bods in a way. Really, really liking that from Cooper T and Jason Williamson. They're supported by Introducing in Manchester.

Right, we are going to be hearing from our featured artist, Jessica Winter, in a bit on the show. But first, a track I've been meaning to play for you for ages. This comes from a band that is on the tip of everyone's tongue at the minute. They are called Brown Horse. They're supported by Introducing in Suffolk and Norfolk. And this is taken from the album All The Right Weaknesses, which is out now. This is Brown Horse and Radio Free Bellinas. I will sleep on the carpet and envision a starship as you blow

I'll tell you all about

It is the latest one from Man, Woman, Chainsaw on the Introducing Mixtape on Six music. That is called Adam and Steve. The band have said that they wrote Adam and Steve last year and it is their own bittersweet take on the Heart on the Sleeve love song. It comes from a place of wanting to find a little fairy tale escapism in modern romance. That's really sweet, I think, from Man, Woman, Chainsaw. It's a really sweet song.

It is the Introducing Mixtape Assembly Pill Beam and it is time for our featured artist this month. This is where we like to shine a spotlight on an act that we've been particularly loving on the Six Music Mixtape. And I've kind of been waiting for the perfect moment to get Jessica Winter on and the time is now. Jessica Winter is a fabulous artist. I think she completely follows her own path, does exactly what she wants because ultimately she knows best.

She is an exceptional live performer, always creating the best party vibes. I'm really excited to hear her debut album, My First Album, which is coming out on the 11th of July. And here she is to tell us a little bit about it. BBC Radio 6 Music. The BBC Music Introducing Mixtape with Emily Pilbeam. It seemed to shake. It's suffocating. So close I can taste it. The amazing for real.

what it does to me does to me

Jessica

Hello, I'm Jessica Winter and I'm living in London but originally I'm from Portsmouth. Jessica Winter was born in 2019 and then my first EP came out in 2020.

and it only really got going when I could start gigging. So that was around 2021, 22. That's when it felt like it became a real thing. Yeah, and this whole thing came about really because I'd been working with lots of boys in bands and having to listen to too many long guitar solos and I found a voice and I had a vision.

and it's been really nice to see it through and have the support of people for nearly five years now to get it to a point where I can make an album. So I feel so grateful and lucky to have that opportunity. I really am drawn to people like Eels and Daniel Johnston. Their lyrics and the way that they use melody is right up my street. But then I also love Kylie and Susie Ann Avanches and Madonna, obviously.

I think it's the writing that makes me feel passionate about music. It's the creating something from nothing and then feeling healed through that process, putting it out to the world and then seeing the reaction. It's the whole cycle of that, how something you can think and feel is that just belongs to you and you put it out there and you see that connection and other people feeling it.

It's just a real feeling of togetherness and joy that we can all feel these things at different times in our lives and we're all connected. That's the passion for me.

I think other than putting out my first album, which is one of the biggest and most defining career highlights yet. Probably touring with Jake Shears and singing Filthy Gorgeous with him on stage. And then with Rebecca Black and doing a tour with her and just getting to know her and how great she is and partying after. It was just such a fun tour. ♪

I'll be releasing lots more music from the album and then doing a record store tour around the UK, which I'm really excited about because I've never done that before. So yeah, hopefully I'll be at a record shop near you and you can come on down, buy a record and have a show. It is Jessica Winter.

All I ever really wanted on Six Music before that was some Jessica Winter as well. L-O-V-E. Jessica Winter is our featured artist this month. I'm so loving everything we've heard from Jessica Winter. She's going to be playing in Leeds soon on the 30th of May, playing at Belgrave Musical and then doing a bunch of in-store shows in July around the album. If you want more Jessica Winter, you should check out the Moonlandings album, which is coming out soon.

This Friday, she features on one of the tracks and I also caught up with Lias and Adrian from Moonlandings when I was in for you last week and we talked a little bit about Jessica as well. So listen back to that on BBC Sounds if you missed it. Music for you now from the introducing uploader from Floral Image. This is for anyone that needs a good old bit of psych in their life right now. This is Floral Image and Howling Dog Song. All the dogs here come with us and sing to fun.

That is University, a massive 21 Pilots tattoo. That track is named after a game of what would be the worst tattoo in the world, apparently. I've got a few more tunes to play for you on the mixtape, but I wanted to play this for you. So I played this on my Introducing Leeds and Sheffield show a few weeks back, and I felt quite honoured to be playing it, actually. So I'm going to play this for you.

I think this track is genuinely quite heartbreaking and inspiring in equal measure. So it comes from an artist called Beku, a musician from Halifax with roots in the revolutionary island of Granada. He was diagnosed with a rare cancer in his 20s and his music is all about reflecting his journey through this life-changing experience.
