Welcome the primary technology, the show about the technet that matters. We're got a huge apple news this week. I was eighteen to the first dev beta is out with things like visual intelligence.
Moi, we're going to get into all of that. And I have a new ipad mini in hand, plus you'll be able actually publish spatial video OS two apple vision pro using the new video APP. And a tone of other news.
This episode is brought you by one password and you, the members who support us directly. I'm one of your host, Stephen Roberts. Every week we do a movie quote, and James is gona try and guess at this week, IT is this? This is the first stage non objective fragmentation, my J J. eight. And do you know what movie that's from? No, I thought you would get that this is the first stage, not objective fragmentation.
Had to say .
a little higher voice there.
I was thinking it's not like a space movie the way .
you said at the first. I need to say more in the voice of the thing. I was thinking first, second stage because the other news is project they have like you know, the the next stage of A I was thinking stages anyway, maybe I think too much about those anyway, no, I get IT OK very he's going hold up our colorful pad mini s again.
And let me me take the color part of that .
off because that would be the case that do have the same color one.
yes. Well, I mean, it's tar to tell they're basically they're all .
versions of the same color. Sl, we talk about I still don't have access two image playgrounds as we speak. Have you? Have you have many devices.
Have you tried to accessing IT on in eighteen two?
I am perona. Something that the voice system is very good at, is restarting the device because I did IT like twelve times yesterday. You can just all the side bud and say, restore my device and then I see that is still access to the image playgrounds.
But anyway, there's other things talk about like ChatGPT integration is in there are the visual intelligence we going to get all of that. We have a bunch of five star ratings and reviews. Thank you for all of them.
We're going to go through very quickly. You can leave with a five interview apple out out top of the show. I N R M underscore.
Maybe it's norm. I don't know. From the U. S. A, I said that were refreshing, enjoyable. And they put their phone on the dominant hand pocket. That's the main reason I wanted to read .
their review preciate that job.
Thunder from the U. S. A, I must say, is very carefully.
It's F, O, C, K, R. But foker eighty two, the dommara s explicit. That's what that's the name in the review. okay. Also I thought this was interesting with the dominant is a theory about what pocket you put your phone in is said you don't know the age difference between two us, but maybe if you had like keys before you had a phone, that the key is go in the dominant pocket before you had cellphones over.
You had a phone before you had keys, maybe your dominant pocket gets reserved for the phone I thought those things, I think we've had a wide variety of age of, you know tell us what pocket they put their phone in. But I thought those things. Did you have keys before you had a phone? E, P, yes.
Like keys that you put .
in your pocket regularly. Yeah, I mean.
I didn't have a phone into college. IT was the first time I got a cell phone, and I would have had have keys to get into my dorm room in college before I had the I like add a minimum the answers. Yes, even if that was by a short amount of time. I know I I mean, I think it's a good step at why, but like even if you had a phone first, yeah and then you got keys and you you're right handed, you still probably use your right hand and use the keys .
so so you don't want to put your keys in the pack away. Phone is .
even so, a Normal.
rational person move the one to you be. There were, no, no. And I think that was an exeter phone, my senior year of high school, which was up like a sprint flip phone. I think I would have been the first object I kept in .
my pocket regularly. At what point do you remember when leave? I switched the little medical b over to the right pocket, because that's .
really thing to do. Another research deep by Z, B. From the U.
K. Own and down the pocket. Thank you. co. Cork from greece. I actually had an interesting point about elon and spaces, which talked about last week.
But talk with that another episode, the future zalman from the U. S. A.
Pineapple six, six, seven from the U. S. A. Also phone in dominant pocket. Thank you. I'm just not reading the people who said that the non dominant so IT seems rosling at this time.
I just but just know that eighty five percent of .
people are the internet to spoke meli from the U. S. A.
Mucho frog bear from the U. S. A. And then i've read picture on nine.
I think it's review before bug. Want to mention a dominant hand pocket as well. So there you go.
As we said, it's round about traffic. Circle is boring. I don't .
know fine with I just it's fine.
I am before that I was eighteen that to uh developer shout out again. I mentioned on the past episode, if you listen or watch the show and you make apps, we love to give you a shout out. Another one, jeff developer jeff actually reached out.
He makes an APP. He make several APP. But wanted to point this one specifically is called learning dex.
It's a kid's APP, is for ipad and iphone and is a fun way for kids to learn whether it's like no man, things, colors, objects, things like that look like a really cute APP. And you can downend for freed also. I just proud of all the developers and listen to show, look at that APP privacy nutrition label.
They did not collect IT. That's what we like to see. So if you have kids or you know what just downloaded and give me five writing review because you listen to the show.
And so if you're developer, you can reach out, let me know you can dam us in our community at social dot primary. Take that if m, we love to have you there. But learning dix, you go, are big one came out this week, Jason.
I was eighteen. That to the first dev beta IT has visual intelligence, which uses the camera control as image playgrounds and geo gie as ChatGPT immigration plus things like the male redesign with the categories a bunch of changes. I'm going to link to a this article in the shower notes, which is uh the mac rumors article. They had a nice round up of all the changes of now as many visuals because it's hard to get access to that image playgrounds we're going to get to. But mac rumors has IT and they have a video kind of showing image playground and playing around with the rating wild images and or gin modes or ever call those things and A A bunch of the things image warned is also i'm really looking forward to that where you can like circle text that you have, maybe like a keynote or apple note, create an image. And I have a lot of thoughts on visual intelligence, but you have try a chance to play some of the stuff, Jason.
Yeah I mean, the the tough book, there's two things. One, this is a beta, so it's hard to really talk about a lot of this. So definitely, we're going to talk about IT. We're just not going to review no.
no, no, no review?
no. But I think it's weird because as I looked to this list, I think the chat B T integration is the thing that people might notice when this actually comes out. The mail APP i'm the is the thing and the most interested in of what has come out. I'm very interested in checking out like I like I used Spark, right? But i'm very interested in looking at how the mail epos and the bar pretty high because so far, the priority, the priority thing in the previous version has been terrible, like absolute garbage.
IT is prioritizing spam emails because there is like a sense of urgency and them stuff, right? But the what's weird about IT is I think the only thing that matters in apple intelligence is not in there yet and that's the conduction where theory that's literally the listen, you can talk all you want about image playgrounds and genocide. It's bit meaningless.
It's just a party trick like I know we'll be fine for people and IT probably will be the thing that the average person who doesn't care about any of this will talk about the most. Just like widgets became a thing that no one really expected. Well, like especially when he became to customize your home screen is the whole weird thing that happened. But I don't think like that any of these matters in terms of actually making a difference in terms of apple intelligence until they get the contacts wear theory. And that's just not an appetite and that's .
just not in here at all. So I will the only counterpoint I have, which is slightly agreeing with you, I thought the one big feature after the iphone event, which was this visual intelligence, which is will talk about first, that was not announced, that dumped up with up intelligence, visual intelligence was not announced back then. He was announced with the iphone of the iphone sixteen.
And I thought that was gonna be one of the big ones that will actually have the most real world difference for a lot of users. No, game IT is very early. So I just want to talk about what IT actually is right now because it's not what I thought I was gonna be, but I started IT.
So not much yet. It's not much, but it's okay. The visual intelligence, if you have an iphone sixteen, you press the camera button and will answer. You don't press IT, you can press IT. You have to hold IT, which again, confusing, confusing interface for me.
But well, it's not okay kind of point to that. Yeah IT is generally speaking the same thing you would do with the power cycle le button. And if you anted to a pop, the system that weren't allowed to talk about, yeah right. So if you just do that to the camera, but and you don't voice.
I would almost like a setting, do not have to be camera control at all, and just do visual intelligence. I have camera on my lock screen. I swipe over the camera, have the camera I can on my home screen, have in the control center. I I know you actually use camera control.
I still know all the I .
don't use IT at all, like i'm going to use via intelligence, maybe anyway. So you hold the camera control button is launches visual intelligence, which is based just like a camera view. And then I thought you were going to be able to kind of talk to me like you do the voice system, like you pointed at something and you say, what am I looking at or where am I or whatever.
And it's not that, uh, you basically have to take a picture first. And so i'm going to take a picture of myself. I don't even those going to happen and they want to take a picture of yourself IT really doesn't show you anything right away unless certain pieces of data, like if you take a picture of an address, a phone number, the things that uh kind of were recognized before.
And I could like auto ad and event, you know a busy road down like a time and a date. And if you do visual intelligence on that, IT is basically to add to the calendar, you can entirely event and and go from there. So that kind of data IT will prompt certain things.
And I think if you're at like a business and if you use visual intelligence pointed at the building of whatever have to test, I think you will offer you information about that business. But most of the time, and for most queries, this is all you see, you basically get a search button and and ask a button. And neither of those are apple things.
Both of those are third party services. If you tap the search button, IT will actually just do a reverse google image search and show you that. And then if you tap the ask button, IT will ask ChatGPT, would you have to have integrated? When can you talk about that integration in the second? So if if I tap the google one, it'll just, say, searching with google or nice.
I get no results, uh, from my face, which is interesting because I that also pictures me out there. But then I bw me back here like I can even research on IT. Now, if I do IT again, if I do the ask which prompts ChatGPT, I have to type something to ChatGPT and let me type, who is this talk?
You can .
talk now. It's supposedly listening to me, and IT actually opened to me. anyway. I don't know what happening.
What is so? So what?
I, as soon as I out there did, I went outside and I tried visual intelligence on a bunch of, like, plants, because I was expecting IT to, like, if I took a picture of a planet, do the look up thing, which is already a feature in apple photos. Like, you can do this right now, you take a picture of a plant and if IT recognizes IT, you'll see that little eye icon or sometimes a leaf icon in the photos APP.
You can tap that and it's an apple building feature called look up and will give you information about that plant or whatever, and up of visual intelligence. What at least do that like, let me take a picture of a plant and then tell me about IT. Tell me what IT is.
But IT does not do that yet. Maybe that's coming, i'm not sure. But right now, you basic have to do a google lime search of ChatGPT.
And I will say both of those could identify plants. Like if I did the global image surge, IT would say, here's photos of that plant. If I did ChatGPT, IT would say that looks like a blank and I would tell me about the plant.
But there's not, at least right now, I built in like apple information data abase aside from passing things like phone numbers and addresses and things like that. So this is a very different experience, I thought. And in in the event, if you remember the iphone sixteen event, the guy like stooped down takes like uses visual intelligence on a dog and asks, what dog is this? And I can't remember what's actually in the cano.
Maybe I try to find IT. Well, you tell me your experience, but like you can really do that, you always have to take a picture of the dog, tap search or ask chat B T, and they will tell you, uh, what IT is. But I don't have you had any different experiences in that.
I, I, I actually have a more global thought about this, which is like i'm sort of confused. I know this is a beta, so it's hard to judge the final version. I I don't see them shipping visual intelligence in this form because I just think it's is just too confusing, right?
The keino sort of promised what you described, but you can walk up to the dog push this thing doesn't even need to take a photo of IT IT just will show you. And actually maybe like other reason it's like that is because like you described, the photos have already to do some of this, right? If you take a picture of a dog and already show you the information about the dog. But I really kind of surprised because I think the expectation people will have as you walk up to a poster like this, is what they showing the kino. You push the camera control visual intelligence of pop up and it'll just say, if you do, you want to add the date of this concert.
So I dr, I just found that part of the keynote. And so again.
for you, that is not the flow of what anything that wants close.
at least now. But here's actually the dog part and not link the keynote in the shower notes right now at like fifty six minutes and see that is not what is doing. So in the keynote, IT shows, no, he double taps, actually the visual intelligence button and IT just pops up the name of the dog breed. IT doesn't have to go to google or ChatGPT, which is not the flow right now. Maybe i'll be a future Better to well.
And to be clear, if you hold the camma control and launch visual intelligence and then you hit again IT does the whole photo thing for you. You don't have to tap the screen to to take that photo. You do.
okay. So like maybe that's what he's doing. He's just double tapping IT like and it's like opening camera control. I L. I don't know that he doesn't .
he doesn't surface any answers right now.
Like I just because no one knows what that I was. A rabbit is a dead rabbit. Be hilarious if I was like dead rabbit.
If I ask j GPT, what's this? And it's a picture of the rabbit. R one, still everything's listening, I don't know. Anyway, this is the first data. We we should we're not reviewing IT, but all this item is known as a loop dex C T, A customizable creative tool design for enhancing workflow fiction.
Ency definitely does not increase workflow viii, cy and promise, I promise.
So maybe that's coming. Maybe that look up stuff is coming. Um this is not the experience right now.
And I just from apple though, you know think about things that we take so much for granted this point like universal clipboard, right? Or like where you can just, I do this all the time where I will just copy something from my phone and pasted on my computer, or the, or more often in the other way around, type something in the notes up on my computer, copy IT and drop IT into something on my phone like I never have to think about IT just works a hundred percent of the time.
And it's like whatever you or you can drag your mouse over to the edge of the screen and then it'll shop on your ipad. It's like it's just what would you think you would do to move your mouse either you just do that and IT just works. Nothing about the way that some of these things are set up at this point, have that same of the same experience.
And obviously, this is extremely complicated stuff. But for apple, IT has a lot writing on the IT just works. And I feel like right now, I mean, even even the ChatGPT integration, I I think that's great, but it's still isn't the thing that quote just works. There's it's fitter y right now is the complaint about the camera control as I was fitly.
And hopefully, they're able to reduce complexity over time as they get closer to releasing this to people because I think that what will into happening otherwise is that apple intelligence will be the thing people just use to make gene mogi, which is like, again, people are gonna love that. Like, that's fine. My kids are going to think that's amazing and i'm going to be terrified to get e.
mog. Text messages from them. But that's not like transformational for apple.
right? So you mention the ChatGPT and integration, and that actually, I think, is one of the more powerful features you can try right now. Listen, the eighteen or two Better to one.
So once you update, you can go to the apple intelligence settings. There's a whole ChatGPT a section there you can sign in if you have a chat P T account. And then basically what that will do is fall back the the system on your phone will fall back to ChatGPT whenever you ask you something that IT is unable to do.
And you can also, if you don't tok le this off, you will ask every time, like do you want us to send us to ChatGPT? Do you know it's not actually apple. It's actually going to go to cloud.
And so you can actually turn that off. There's a confirm t GPT requests togo. And if you toga that off, then your assistant will just do the things without asking.
And two interesting features. One, I had a short cut that I put on youtube that was basically like, use your action button as a ChatGPT voice conversation starter. You don't really need to do that if you integrate the ChatGPT with your apple intelligence.
Because now I can ask things like write a high co about being a tech podcast. I just actually assistance to do that and it's automatically going to send that to ChatGPT. There you have IT voices in the air, bites of wisdom, softly shared echoes of the sphere adona.
O and so I didn't I did to I did to prove anything. IT does give you the ChatGPT like tag. And IT says mistakes can occur, verify details.
And you know, IT was ChatGPT that generated that high cool, whatever. But now you can basically have that ChatGPT voice request. And I think it's actually faster than trying to start a voice conversation session in the ChatGPT APP.
This is actually faster. And so I find that integration to be pretty good also with the riding tools. ChatGPT now makes those way more powerful because before you could never actually insert instructions to the riding tools, you can tell that, summarize, give me key points or just a rewrite IT.
But there was no like details that you can add or changes you can make. Well, now when you go to the writing tools, after you do in a selection stuff, you can describe your change. That's a new that's not change GPT.
That's just a new apple intelligence feature. But if you ask to generate text with that, ask for change. IT will often call out to ChatGPT if it's not going to do IT on its own.
So I actually find a ChatGPT integration, which is I run IT because is not an apple intelligence GPT. I find that integration to be pretty useful. I don't know. Did you did you connect your open eye count be done?
I've been trying the whole time even talking, and I just keeps saying me there's a problem, something went wrong that just keeps telling me this over and over over again.
And I mean, haven't OpenAI paid account? Yeah did uh t GPT APP I apparently .
I did apparently. I I don't know why you would need to do that though.
Does he say he is connected? Because is that sign out right there? No, it's a sign just getting.
But you what I don't understand, you don't have to have the ChatGPT up on here even to do this.
But you need to be signed in, I think to not .
to the ad to k well, I don't think I have to be signed into the APP like I guess one of thing is this is sending you to ChatGPT. You don't actually have to separately have the APP I your phone.
I guess that is fair. What i'm thinking is you if you don't pay for ChatGPT, there is a limit, I think on requests, you know like some kind of them.
So if you want that unlimited access, you know the benefits of your tag P T plus account, which I don't know how the four o model plays into IT any that is a point like there is no way to like tell apple intelligence when you access chat P T use this model like there is no option for that is just going to use chat P T. So you're right, you probably don't need to have the APP or maybe even sign in. Uh, but if you want the benefits of your ChatGPT plus account, then you do have to do that.
But i'm getting no benefits.
And then I actually found that to be interesting. And if you ask for like general knowledge things, which the apple assistant wasn't great add in the past, IT can just fall back to ChatGPT and it's it's a nice integration again, I don't know that is about le intelligence apple assistance specifically, but I like that is there. And so that was probably a good call. That's proba good.
Do you do you think that the reason that or I guess I should ask, do you agree though with my promise that the only thing that really like going to matter is like the contacting you where theory and apintment?
I think that, yes, yes. Because one of the big things from me is the most I use ChatGPT now is actually in shortcuts and in things not necessarily the tragic ity APP. And unfortunately, at least in the first beta, there are no shortcuts actions still or any of any apple intelligence features like you can even get like the riding tools summarize as a shortcut action to actually use in a workflow.
And so I find you was kind of conversation if you wanted to, I say you had a large piece of text of video transcription. If you wanted to use apple summarized writing tools, apple intelligence on IT, you basically like copy at all. That means you like you, you know, hold, select all or your drag in these all in points.
And once the text is selected, then you can apply writing tools to IT. And that even just a little process right there. Special you're dealing with a lot of text, I think is too cover some to actually be useful and that like i'm not inclined to do IT, i'm just going to go back to my shortcuts. I think the people that actually want to use IT for those kind of productivity instances that needs to be easier to kind of access and throw things to IT.
And so I do think the contextual awareness, when I can ask my assistant, you know how long, like one of the things that is supposedly came out in his bed, but I didn't see you, is like, if someone sends you a location, someone text you a coffee shop, you should be able to, like, be looking at your text conversation, hold the decide button and say, how long will you take me to drive there from home? And you just tell you, that's cool. IT doesn't do IT yet.
Uh, so I think that will be more useful for more people. Will I be able to pick up my mom from a flight? If I go to this meeting? That will be, I think, yes, more useful for more people. But IT has to be really good. And I don't know, I don't know what is coming.
Well, like I tried soon as I download the first thing I did, which I should have known that he wasn't going to work, but I wanted to say, how long will I take me to get from my appointment this afternoon to the soccer practice? All I did was showing my calender, but least understood that those were calender related things. But the funny thing is that just shows me the calendar if I even use and granted, everything is still on there because I have all the calendars and there but it's like, no, no, no, you you didn't quite you are trying and little little body you really did try but you didn't fully understand what I was asking for and you just almost would have Better in that case for to say, i'm sorry I can do that yeah right is opposed just to your calendar like, yeah I know that there are two things on my calendar. What I want to know is how long will take me to drive from one to the others so that I can make sure to allow enough time.
So I want to say a quick thing, just because we're going to talk with the crag federici interview is to answer n in a minute if you agree to degree with the statement. If apple had not pushed to get apple vision pro out the door and instead focused all that time and energy on getting apple intelligence one hundred percent launched with the iphone sixteen, I think every conversation about apple intelligence will be vastly different. And vasily positive, if IT all worked and IT was all out, now you .
are no but .
OK there.
Here's why. I don't think apple knows what to do with apple intelligence at this point. And the reason is you, when you compare IT to chat B T, for example, that the product that they make, right, opening I makes is the only product, right? And so the only thing they're thinking about, and at this point, literally the only thing they're talking about is how do we modified this product that given up on the whole, like a research part of IT, like we will talk about that many times over the future yeah in the future.
But apple is thinking about this in the context of how does that fit into this device, which is the single most successful product in the history of everything. And they should be thinking of IT in that regard. But that's why it's popping up in terms of light.
You can make customer mog or you can take a thing out your photo. And I think all of those are useful, like I think those are great features, but no one apple is thinking of IT from like blue sky. What should we be doing in terms of apple tallons in the ship, that kind of thing? And I don't think the vision pro had anything to do with that because the vision pro was so far along in its development at the time that apple realized.
I mean, think about IT. Everyone was caught off guard by jg. B. T. IT was like literally just a little side project that open and I put out there.
And IT became the fastest growing like tech product and like service in the history of the universe. Because I like went from zero hundred hundred and like a couple months or something like that. I was like, absolutely.
But even if I didn't expect that, that was what was going to happen, there's like here's the thing we made you guys look at IT tells what you think and it's like we want more of this. So every company had to just fast track anything that they working on in terms of generated ai and apples coming along in looking at IT as as, okay, so great. How do we actually make this usual? And I think that that's actually the right approach.
I just think that apple is unable to sort of do the math yet because their approach is so different than the like. They're not starting with a peer approach of A I, which is what opening I is doing in google has the same problem like google has to figure how how do we put this thing on here because google is Better position than anyone to do this. They have the computer power, they have the distribution they have, but they also have this cash cow, which is search ads.
And how do you continue to make money if you are just putting out these generated AI answers that people don't click on links, right? And so I don't know. I think I don't think that the vision pro is the reason apple is so far behind OK an apple intelligence. I think it's just the fact that they may they sell one hundred and fifty million iphones every year and they are like, how do we not rule in that?
I do yeah okay, i'll take that. I I do think apple the biggest company in the world most of the time, like once chage P T head, if apple was a faster moving company, I mean they could thrown so much money at its like money is not an issue for apple and if open a eye can thrown money and develop as fast as it's going, I feel like surely but IT was also untold that like he was unknown even when chad to be tea like three point five launched.
What does this mean long term? So I get okay, i'll take your point. I'll take your point. You really tell me talk about the correct or we're about you .
you you can have all the money in the world, which apple basically does, but you still have to have a plane for what to do with that. And that's the part where I think apples trying to figure out like what what should we do with this thing because they are so they are so tied to the iphone as a device in that experience. And again, I think the apple intelligence, the way that they are approaching IT, is ultimately like the right process. I just think that we have not quite seen with the end of that process looks like, yeah, and there's no one at apple, I think, who's quite figured that out there sort of like just put up a bunch of things in like this work. In part of that I could be because they saw what happened with things like widget, right, which I don't think anybody expected widget to become like such a huge thing, especially with like the tiktok crowd, right?
Needed I mean, I D David h. Smith was not expecting .
that no one I mean I interview to after that and it's like he attributed directly to like the tiktok people, which here's the thing, the audience of power users of iphone who would want widget for productivity purposes in the people who use tiktok to customize their homework reen. There's a zero overlap there. So right .
are too quicker eating the two things. And then uh so mall, you also get the categories and mail, which is like transactions, updates, all the kind of stuff. This is very much like the gmail categories, if you familiar with those, but it's built in the mail.
So we will apply to all of your mail from different accounts. If you have over sixty and mail accounts, you can put IT in there. I you can turn the sort, by the way, because I was, I kind of immediately turn that off.
There is a new type of three dots. You can go back to list of you, and you can also attack the show priority section, for example, intelligence. You could talk that on or off. And I I don't like the categories because I always like I think I was just checking more categories like I always just onna go back and just to look at each category anyway, this is there is any mail there? So I, I, I don't get to go us.
do you really do you know?
Yeah no, no. Well.
I think it's huge. And the reason is because like okay, the transactions one right like that great, but I don't need to see any of this stuff in the transactions regular basis. Like this is not I don't need the stuff you don't .
go to in back zero, do you? Oh, absolutely.
every day I get in back zero.
So what you going to do with everything in that category? You going put IT all in folder.
and we can see this. Anything here I need to actually pay attention to and then i'm just gonna that all yeah okay.
Well, maybe maybe I should try that the categories on and i'm i'll try again for me like every time of my email APP, i'm just going to go to each one and I wanted to like filled to the male as I go. And it's like this, my is just more taps. But okay, now maybe try i'll try once a day strategy ah that you have.
And one of the thing, uh, so you got to mogi visual, but I I I I can't talk about IT. I've seen people posting the genoc I seles, they look cool and add have access to IT apple you're listening. Just open up.
I ve been stand to the screen for like twenty four hours, just just open up up anyway. There's that there's also like another pretty interesting features in eighteen that two you can set default. Now there's a whole area for default s like for mail and things like that um which you know pressure from the E U.
All that kind of stuff. One of the thing, no voice memo, I don't even know this was coming in voice members, you can now have multiple tracks. You can actually have multiple participants.
And against the mac room is article. You can have two tracks later on top of one another, and then even separate the layers and edit the layers. So like you can go one and two separate the layers. I like try to make this thing like a podcast that.
well, I think he was David peers who said something like this is going to be great for people who just want to record interview as a podcast is you could call somebody and have to do this whatever the new phones recording thing is, instead of like messing with zone, I think resides are much Better and I don't work there, so I can say thank. And they don't sponge our show, they just know taste, even the mortgage, which I guess is best the same .
thing but little different.
But I just think I think it's interesting. I don't know that if i'm recording a phone, like if I was being recorded a phone call, I like the idea that someone could edit that. But I guess I mean, Stephen could make .
me say what every once, right? absolutely. Just tried to make Jason sound more and more .
wrong every week to .
no availed, we got to go the ipad mini because we both have those reviewed. But before we do want to thank our sponsor for this week, one password, the secure enterprise like next level, we're talking about one password extended access management. Okay, imagine your company is like the quite of a college campus, right? You got the pets and you have brick roads between buildings.
But you you know the guys played frisbee in the cause. They're going to go everywhere they can go, you know, whatever. So cut short dizzen s between two, two points.
And typically, when people use their tech in a work environment, they take those kinds of shortcuts. And that means unmanaged devices, shadow t apps and non employee identities. And most security tools only work on those like happy brick pads, but a lot of security problems take place on those shortcuts.
So one password extended access management is the first security solution that brings all these unmanaged devices, apps and identities under your control that ensures that every user credential is strong and protected and every device is known and healthy, and every APP is visible. One password extended access management solves the problems. Traditional I M and M D M, as mobile vice managers can't.
It's security for the way we work today and is now generally available to companies with OTA microsoft intra beta for google workspace customers. You can check IT out the links down in the video, in the episode description, and in the video description for watching on youtube. Check out at one password dot com slash product slash X A M.
That's one password dot com, the number one password dot com slash product slash X A M and that link is in the showed tes, thanks to one password sponsoring this episode. R A new route review of the ipad mini. not.
I got a little early, little earlier than I did. I have, I have mine right here. I just set IT up last night, and I have to start doing in store, pick up with my U.
P. S. guys. Don't want and late, you don't. To me, late in the day can be doing that kind of stuff.
You know, trying to do video, uh, so I have IT here. I've not used in a whole lot. I basically just updated eighteen. I'm trying to get image playgrounds on some device anyway. Just do you think this jelly crawling .
on that thing think there's I really no and I did never thought on the original one.
This is not. Well.
this is the most made up thing. This, no.
Now all not. Second, because you people mention us. I've seen so many videos, so many opinions about the jelly scrolling.
I wash all the the early reviews, like, here's brian tongues review and he was talking about jelly is crawling and he said it's it's gone. So is him like trying to screw fast on a thing? Like not there.
And then I see other people who will go like super slow mo that doing like two hundred and forty frames per second. And you see, and by jelly scrolling what they mean, because he took me, well, understand this. It's like if your scrolling on the screen in portrait mode, the side that you're swiping with your finger moves a little faster than the other side.
So if you slow IT way down, you see like this wave, is because the part that is growing with your finger is refreshing, a slightly faster than the other side. And some of the slogan videos i've seen IT. Listen, here's the bottom line. I really little good matters.
Here's the thing apple makes a lot of ipad and if this bothers you, buy one of the OLED one.
okay.
So I will say, no, no, really like who's buying a five hundred or ipad mini because like that's like saying, well, the kindle is great, but you know the refresh is pretty slow. It's eating.
I know. And this, well, I will say I think they David piercy know he was to review for the verge. I do think there is a question of whether the ipad mini in the like entry level to pro model.
I think you know you have the base model, ipad tenjin, ipad air, ipad pro. Does the ipad mini fit in between the ipad air, the ipad pro? Or does the fit in between the base model and the ipad air? Because they use the apple pencil pro, which the base model doesn't.
And it's kind of Priced more like an ipad air even though a smaller screen. But IT doesn't have like the can will the cameras important, which I feel like for the ipad mini of any ipad makes the most sense because you're probably to hold like this. So I don't know. I mean, is that is that confusing like where .
IT is in the lineup? Uh, I don't really understand the rational other than like this is a IT is okay. Yes, it's confusing because it's just the ipad mini.
So you would think that is a less version of the ipad, right? It's not the ipad armani, right? Ipad mini was definitely have the ipad prominent. But I mean, it's basically like it's like they called the ipad mini, but IT is sort of an ipad airman I but it's got a processor in between the tempting ipad and the m two ipad air.
So in that sense of kind of confusing also honestly, this thing is way respect for the Normal users you would use this for because you used to edit podcast s maybe you still do in fair. I on the previous fifteen, bionic IT was fine, right? Like a IT was fine.
but you do sense the slow sometimes. And so i'm curious to try on this new one because as processor.
but i'm sure that would be great. I will be basic, I mean, because it's essentially I am two, but the iphone version, right? So I mean, you know which is m three, but the iphone version.
So I want to be fine. It's gonna on the handle. I think I think that the what's I wish they would for the Price five hundred dollars is kind of Prices for something that looks like, I don't know.
Like where do what is this compete with? Is that a small ipad there? Is that a really nice content consumption device?
Because like you could use some updates to things like like the display and I don't mean the joy scrolling. I'm just like refresher ate. I don't know the refreshing, the refresher ate or make IT all LED in charge .
an extra hundred. And here's i'm going to try and precariously present three devices at once on screen here. Here is not an and well.
oh my gosh, here is scratches on all those devices right now. Here is the .
iphone sixteen pro max with the ipad mini, with the eleven and ipad pro. Now I understand not everyone has all these devices, but I love the eleven in ipad pro. IT is one of my favorite devices. I added this podcast audio version on that ipad every week. There's not really a reason for me to also have a meeting.
And like maybe that's obvious, but I I think that goes to what ipad is for whom or which ipad is for whom, you know if you want to do work on an ipad, like you want a docket or connect to extra display or use a book keyboard, like you need to get ipad air, ipad pro, like you need to do that. If you're not doing work work and you're doing content consumption, well, you probably want a bigger screening like me. The eliminate ipad air is actually Better option anyway.
So what does this left to do? read. sure. That's great. I'm getting a kindle color soft next week and I have a sneaking suspicion that that would be a Better reading experience than this because it's ink and my eyes are not gonna as you know, whatever. So i'm i'm going to add a podcast on the mini because I wanted feel what that is like and I want to compared to my pad pro, I have a feeling can be the same thing I said last time like I miss the higher refresher because when I scroll in the podcast and i'm looking wave forms, refresher ate matters uh and then it's like, I don't know I I don't know what I would do with this.
You don't say send back but .
you know IT is great is like I the lightness and the thinness is one of the reasons why I loved editing podcast on this for a long time because i'm holding for over an hour when i'm editing a podcast to hold an ipad pro. But a little on chapter is though, and here's the thing.
First of all, you know what to do at this. I'm sure there's a spat next to the rabbit r one in the humanity ipad just for this device. And I promise this will be much more useful for you in the long run.
But like honestly, like i've got the eleven and I I pedia I also have a thirteen and I pedia the m one. The standard has been put like they made these things pretty thin. Then for ipad, they are not like that heavy.
So I don't know. I actually really like the ipad mini I put in my review. IT is the perfect device to be sitting out like waiting for a soccer practice finish or whatever because it's small.
You don't look like you're just sitting there with an ipad. I can't believe you're doing that thirteen. Whatever that bottom is.
is going to have. I i'm just trying to share that the eleventh m four ipad pro thinner than the new mini.
yes, in the dirty is even Better than both of .
and o okay, if someone has zero ipad, maybe they have a mac on an iphone. Do you suggest this as the ipad they should get? I love in ipad there.
Okay, down hundred percent of the time. So and okay, the scenario one, the minute didn't make IT scenario. Scenario two, someone has a mac, a thirty and ipad air. Maybe they just got IT and a iphone. Do they?
Should they buy the money? No, no. This is for pilots.
Stephen and doctors. Pilots and doctors they .
Carry that is the perfect size to put the White coat or to strap to your leg. And if you are not Carrying things in the White coat or strapping things to your leg, you should just buy an pad air.
I think it's only only I think that's that's the review right there. Should one senate if you're pilot, you're doctor. I have heard that like this is the perfect lab coat, docker, ipad OK I I ve .
heard IT said that this is the perfect size for putting in a into a way doctors lap go.
then go. But you do I will put the link to your review in the shown notes because I think as you said in the review, like if you're looking at year over year and the cheapest faster, but really it's apple tele.
they just wanted to be able to say that, that all of these devices are capable. And you can, although I was like for people who like the ipad mini, actually think this is a good sign, even though this is kind of the as minimum of an update as you could possibly make to make sure that this thing will be older.
One apple intelligence, right? That's basically what this but it's a good sign because they could just been like that we're just the ipad minis never gonna to apple intelligence. It's no longer going to be a product in our life.
They could have a home pot of IT, right? They could just let IT just lay out there and just be whatever the fact that they wanted people to build to take adventure. Ge, apple intelligence on the ipad mini says they planned to continue the ipad mini so that I think is a good thing.
And maybe in a year or eighteen months, three years, we'll get something Better. Like I think, you know, if we can get OLED in a switch, I feel like at some point they could be like, actually the ipad mini is amazing. Here's an old, old version because we know that people use them to read a lot.
Like, I don't know. Like, so I do think it's a good idea, but the whole reason that they did this is just because they need everything to be on apple intelligence, and it's a weird story for them to be telling. I don't know about the bays ipad.
I think it's just pretty likely that that's gonna not ever gonna, you know eventually don't get a processor capable of them at this point. They sell so many of them to schools, and I don't think they would want to keep making that many seventeen pro. But maybe next year when the eighteen is available as a processor that they could stick in the base ipad, that wouldn't surprise me. But I also wouldn't be terribly surprised if they don't because I think that the best ipad at this point is the only thing that doesn't natively run other than your watch, which whatever in your home pods, which again, whatever.
although the voice of system on the home pods would be nice if I could, like, ask my home part things, and if i'd, like, fell back to G, G, P, T, like I could do that, that would be nice.
would call, yeah. I think that the home pods, I feel like that the they don't need apple intelligence. They just need a the Better version of series, right, right? And I think that they can what I put in my review is that I think that they can accomplish that in the future without having to stick and m series equivalent processor into because you're never going to put an m serious processor in an or a home pod mini like, you know it's going to pay six hundred dollars .
for a home pod mini. Those ones we ones like or I put one in there.
I mean, they're putting him in a macbook are that they're selling a warmer, which I would not be surprised of. The m one macbook are is still the best selling macbook air because you're selling at a walmart for seven hundred and forty nine dollars. Many of those things go on sale.
I would just by the way, I will say for anyone who is thinking of buying the new uh, ipad mini or has an ipad air, one of the empty s or four, I did this. I had to buy a new a pencil pro because did I tell you I ran over mind? No, I could find.
I couldn't find IT for the wheels Better now, but I did anyway. I couldn't find IT for like three days. And then I pulled back somewhere and I looked on the ground and I was just lying there on the ground.
Like get had been there for like four days. And IT worked for a few days, and then I will, I will attach in pair in charge by IT. The squeak does not work and either does like any of the site. But there is them saying that, is that walmart, the pencil pro right now? Ninety four box?
Okay, so there was an apple pencil pro that you really over. Yeah and what's an area? O were you walking to your car that the pencil pro could have just fAllen off?
I have absolutely no idea.
We just not Carrying your ipad like naked with the pencil lor.
I walk out to the car with that like this in your year? No, i'm kidding. I've never done OK.
I have no idea how .
I did on the ground. I have no idea like I was Carrying. I don't remember obviously dropping IT, but whatever is my only reason for saying that was not free to make fun of me. I was to say for our listeners, you can get the pencil right.
Twenty four box after pretty good. That's a good deal. I think zone as an m two macbook are for like cheap two right now seven hundred.
but not a great deal, great deal. Seven hundred box that's even Better .
than the one is a wala right? Find IT. I think I saw somewhere there was like crazy, crazy chip m to math book air, which is like you know the redesign macbook are no IT no, seven hundred dollars.
Seven hundred is actually amazing. Seven hundred dollars at the m two, which was the redesigned one. It's the two eighty six as as d version, a gigs unified memory, but only.
but it's also only the the midnight. Oh no. The silver is too okay. But the apparently if you buy all the space gray, you cannot get this for some reason .
to and you can apply a coop is a coop and I can apply and that goes to, okay, listen, if you if you are looking at you in the market and two mac, okay, let me just say there can be a link in the shown notes. So a fillin like i'm going to be real use that like so that is a great deal.
great deal. Two hundred yeah and you get the five hundred and twelve version.
it's for Price, right? Yeah it's it's only for the base base model. But anyway, Christmas, but somebody would love that as a Christmas Price. Just say our last apple intelligence thing, great for the week didn't interview to join a turn from the water street journal all about apple intelligence.
The a one question that out of asked crag to follow up, he said that he asks the voice assistant open his gari just gotten know what homestake drive door opener does he use? I want to know, is the maris? Is that a different? I gotten know. So anyway, IT 再 出来 我 了 know .
it's a rest .
by pie, pretty Better. We might do that.
You know he's i'm saying he's gna custom botin e no.
he can do that. He does a but I mean, it's all about apple intelligence. And joan has turned how that talks about how like their late to the game or whatever and the look on cracks face was like Hillary ous she's like a intelligence cy knows what is behind all the other ones. Kind of gives this look like you know um but anyway, IT was an interesting interview basically talking about the reason why apple was later to all this stuff is because they wanted to be private and secure and they trying to make IT the most useful that IT can be uh rather than other companies kind of like running with IT. He didn't really say anything like news worthy, but I don't know anything .
staying out to you well and about the late thing, I think that point was they could have just rolled out a chapa t which is essentially what he's saying that is in ChatGPT is which I don't especially in the case of german, I am not sure that's entirely fair.
But his point was what we I think it's quote with something like we didn't just want to boat at on the side existing experience, which is unna because they literally just bolt at on ChatGPT to the existing experience like we didn't want to boat our own. And so we just want bought one off the show and we just bought to that and the face the way when he is, say the face. But I do think that I think there's some validity in the argument that if we would have wanted to just create a chap out, we could have done that and that's fine.
But what we wanted to do is figure out how to into deep immigration with your information context aware that sort of thing. And considering how far behind their voice assistant is, it's not super surprising that this is going to take some time to bring that up to that level. So I don't know.
I feel like apple is doing the right thing in terms of the privacy focus. They are trying to protect your information while also using IT to inform the response that you get. But again, they have a lot of money they could have just made like why didn't they just buy and topic like and just take that and build IT in or something like like they can buy?
I mean, they could technically, but they can buy OpenAI at this point. It's just two is worth hundred fifty seven billion applies is not spending that money on anything, right? And so but some other some other options out there like a lot of people that sa is Better at this point than chat P T. So like I feel like you could have got in there if you have been to have a priority and just wasn't enough of a priority until too late.
没有, he did say like this is a decade long process, which I was yeah shoot with an advanced ory for another ten years but look come .
maybe what he meant is they know you've known series .
been bad for ten years anyway. What is okay that as I on telega, they would do fifty minutes on apple llagas? I want to talk about the airports pro to hearing thing, because with the eighteen, that one candidate, which everyone will be able to do on monday, is coming out to to everyone, you can do the hearing test.
And so I did the hearing test with my ipods pro two. And this was actually my results. I have not done a hearing test. I don't even over the last time, year, decades probably. And so being a musician and someone who like sometimes reviews audio stuff like sonus and home puzzles, like I really hope my hearing is is still good so I can continue to trust my ears and turns out, uh, i'm alright if you know, that tells you, give you a little graph. Your left in your right here IT tells you either you have little to know loss or moral loss and don't know right.
I will say the test, like, I started taking the test at one point, and they were like people in the house, like my kids were around and like I heard their voices in the distance and I was immediate immediately like, nope, i'm not doing IT. I want, i'm taking the test and complete silence with zero interceptions because I want to know, I want to know, be on the shade of doubt what my hearing is and so I wait to everybody was at a, and then you take the test. So, you know, IT checks the fit of your airports, and IT plays some like beats.
And the beeps are random. There are different frequencies, so you can can really like game the system. And basically they get very, very quiet. And I I don't know about you.
Tell me what your experience was like but for me, I held my breath like ninety percent of the time because I found even my breathing was like, I here my breathing and I don't want that to throw off with that, I can hear the beats I was like, and it's a lot like it's a five minute process because IT has both year. IT is the left year and in the right year separately, all kinds of beats. And I was like, hold my breath, but I did. Okay.
did you was arranging for you? I don't think was nerve racking, but again, I already knew that I have hearing loss in my left year. So I wasn't like I wasn't to be surprised by whether or not like I was like I don't feel like that a one.
It's not like I got some kind of a fatal bad know this but also two there's no surprise and three like caring loss of some degree is not no IT is not like an he doesn't make a person broke in your inference just because they have something to and for me like knowing that in the past, like the way we discovered I have hearing loss in my left year, is that I would, most of the time, sleep with my right here against the pillow. And our kids would frequently, especially when they're Younger, they would like cry or whatever, and I would never hear anything. And my wife would get so mad because she's like, why don't you ever get up and I would, I just literally wouldn't hear anything. And so I finally, unlike, I wonder what happens if I sleep and I hear everything, i'm gone back to the other side.
Forget my sleep, I always right. So I was not as I didn't .
come as surprise to me at all, but I was actually when I first I first took a hearing test on my um iphone back in january with a third party meme I think is the end that I used. And because I wanted no, I wanted to like quantify and know like how bad is IT in according to apples test and according to that one, I have what's called mild hearing last in .
my left year and this was your graph and so that is considered model. It's like more than twenty five disciple laws, I think if they call a .
mild and IT from like twenty to fifty or something. So it's not like a percentage IT doesn't mean I have lost twenty seven percent in my my air and so and so I set up the hearing eight thing um what I don't know about the hearing eight, I need to test a little bit is and again, with mild hearing loss, it's not going to give me a dramatic differences, right?
Like it's not going to who change but I don't know for sure do I have to wear them both in order for you to even work? I'm only wearing the left. One is gna do anything because there are some more.
There are some more. I and obviously noise consolation is not work unless you have them both in right? Unless I have you ever had that thing where they they glitch yeah only got one and and simply goes like happened .
like IT is super weird. But i've also done that on purpose sometimes because you can like just put one air pot, you have to actually enable this and settings. You can enable noise cancellation just individually and sometimes like family know a podcast and I don't want to listen to a loud because hearing and everything I will enable nose cancelling on that one airpower would still have this year. And I can still hear they're saying because it's cancelling the one year ah, but I can still hear more of the world out there. So anyway.
well, I was the the experience that I had that was that when you when I have them both in and I have basically transparency mode on right IT IT seems to be expansion Better than transparency mode was even a couple weeks ago, because IT doesn't feel like you have a mode happening, right?
IT feels more natural, like I used to be, that if you win from noise cancer to transparency of a said, that was like IT felt like you were listening to the world due like a tinkin issue was just, you could tell, you could tell that I was artificial. Al feels a lot more natural. And IT might just be because now applying that hearing aid setting, whatever the profile frequent.
So if you get, I be curous if he works, which is one in. But I mean, it's great that you have these features and especially like this sounds strAngely, I go when I go to clean my car, the vacuum that they have and like the thing, like the very loud vacuum, yes.
And like especially if you want to get close to the carpet and IT has like that just breaks that seal whatever is very love and hypo ched, I would I wear my airports pro to like just cancell that out because because hearing you don't get one hearing and up. So it's not good grammar, but anyway, get one here and here. So that's the test.
Everybody get table in that one which comes out next week. I want want to mention this is interesting, the vimeo APP, which is coming to apple vision pro before the youtube APP just grown that out there. The video up is coming first, and you'll be able to publish as a creator spac videos to the platform and then other people can watch the space al videos in the video APP.
And so as far as I can tell, this seems like the first time when this kind of a full ecosystem where someone can create specifical videos and someone else can watch those special videos all in the apple vision pro. And I I mean, I feel like I don't know where youtube on because youtube is ready, had like three sixty videos and three type things. I don't know why it's taking them so long or so resistant to, but cool on video for doing that.
And I kind of want to try IT to see, you know, you can film on your phone and then just publish IT to video, whatever. I have to see what the whole process is like. But cool, let's go. You another reason to put IT down, do you to wear everyday, everyday, everyday. amazing.
We really request this. I won't go to for work, but like I was using june of the other day. And like this is like the best discontinued at that is I mean, I guess, I guess he has a history of making very good discontinued.
No, none of them were his. Well, like he's now like google who just kills things that people actually like, like google reader, whatever. but.
But I do think like IT is it's a great experience for using youtube. Far Better. I promise it's Better than whatever youtube I pro.
Yes yes, right.
And i'm just so glad that even though you .
can't get IT, it's so my um I did watch submerged which is apple I yeah finally I watch IT apple's first scripted immersive short film it's like fifteen minutes and it's a fictional story about this group submarine crew basically in they get hit by torto and you know OK assen sues and .
the whole boiler's I mean.
you can look at the the picture in the thing and you could tell, like, okay, water is rushing in. You know but so I watched IT you watched too and what you what do you think .
about IT do you think I so if okay, I think was very well done. Yeah, I think it's really, I kind of had the same sort of thought originally I did would like the gucci thing. Like this is the thing you could only do with this sort of a pop.
I mean, you could do that with like OK too, but like with this sort of a experience, exactly. And so I really liked that. I did feel a little bit like, what's the most obvious thing you would do if you had someone in the heads and wanted them to be immersive, the boring filling up with the water?
I did feel a little bit like that. The environment that would be best, yes, impact for know but like put a butterfly garden, I mean, that would be cool. But anyway, they're trying to make a movie that I I it's only seventeen minutes long, short, so I don't know if that's the links of maximum.
They get so much work to make this thing like I mean, IT is a there's like some kind of a ratio to how much work does that you know if you spend for an hour of video, ten hours of editing, right? Like, is IT for a vision promise of experience? Ed, sixty hours of editing and still like, you have to.
Like, I don't know. Like IT just seems very complicated. But I thought I was school. I thought story was like IT was good. IT seemed well done. I didn't like the fact that even though was immersive and you could look around the depth of field, still felt cinema tic, which is not the way I would feel if you were standing there.
I was a point, yeah, you ve just just looking at the guy who's super close to me and I look over there, I should be able to see what's over there. And if i'm looking at some industry close to me, everything else is going to be blurry but not that glorious. It's not like my eyes are not seeing the world at f one point four. That is like.
that is interesting. Yeah, there were moment, right? Like, you know, being immersive, you can choose where to look and see. You can look at not the main character. You can look at the side charter.
And there were times I was like at the beginning, they're all in their bunks and I was kind of looking and I was like, I want to see more of what that guys doing and and IT is like, kind of blurry. IT did feel super short when he ended. I was like, for real, like I did feel like, wow, yeah if you're going to make you to sit and watch a movie, he expected to be longer. But I will say I think this is a great proof of concept because if you made a movie with like, well known actors and actresses that people really want to see, like if you made a movie with brad pitter, whatever, or I don't know, but I can't think a famous as right.
But your hand yeah let me have yeah like a marvel movie .
like if you made something like that in an immersive way where I felt like you're really in the room with some of these people, I think that would be super compelling. And I think people would want to see IT one of the thing I actually, uh, let my father and law try the apple vision proof the first time he's super sports into sports, all the sports. And so with the basketball, all start thing, uh, that's one of the immersive you can watch.
I had a try IT and he was, you know, fun to see him experienced for the first time. Like, he thought a basal was like, gna hit him and so he like, dodge no. And he was like, well, that feels real.
And so there was a call experience when when he was done, he was like, so what else is there? I like oil kind of IT. Like, you can watch some super more highlights and about IT.
Can I watch like world series or can I watch like, is can I watch anything live? And I like, no, there's nothing like. And so so there is like that this connective like, okay, well, that was a cool demo. If I am going to actually put this on my face more often, people want regular content like that.
And I think if in when we get to that day, which one of the articles that I saw recently was the verge reported that apples like slowing production on apple vision pro, you know, I think IT has to have that regularity were like, you know the world series yankees dodgers sports ball like kind of internet new york. And I think it's a big rivalry like they have be amazing. And I was explaining my father and I like, imagine if you could like be behind the catch and IT fel like IT just felt in the after veto highlight and then you feel like you're there and you could feel like at first day and you feel like you're right in front of these people.
Like I think we'll be an awesome experience, but we're just so far from that kind of like live event mult angle even maybe even like choose your own adventure kind of thing, like chose where you want to see IT and they're different. I don't know all of the money thing, time, everything, but I doubt really cool. I just I don't know how far away that is.
Yeah and I know I know people talk about the sports thing. I think you'd be kind of cool to be like a i'm sitting along with the first place line at whatever being stadium, something I don't know that we're so used to seeing baseball, for example, from a certain perspective on television like I actually feel like that might feel bless real than what we're used to. I don't know little feel like being there.
What we need is like a that horizon in this. Can you imagine how terrifying that movie would be? Or like or like passenger know like the year or something well, but like I was inking like because, yes, apparently in anything in space gravity like me. But I think that the chAllenge is when they made event horizon, they made IT for a large flat screen. How do you? You can, but you can watch emerge just in the upper TV up on your computer like you can only watch IT in the vision problem because they made IT, but with that immersive type of not just with that intent, but like with that technology, you can't just flatten that out into a two d thing.
And so it's going to be, I don't know, like will we ever get there? One, we're only going to get there if like if apple puts the apple TV up on the oculus, for example, and you can start watching stuff like that on those other platforms because there just is not enough money behind making feature films or those feature experiences for such a small audience people. But you're never going to grow that audience if you don't have that kind of stuff. So I feel like at some point, they just put the TV up in the amazon prime like put that on the actus like is IT and seems like a no brainer that why isn't IT on the and .
I know it's an original content that try here for the vision pro, but I feel like, yeah.
I think you're right. I mean, put IT in the T V.
You have you get A T, V, you, whatever smart v, now you can get.
you can subscribe to an amazon prime now.
Yes, a couple of quick things. I about pies just for a minute. Anthropic announced their latest version of cloud. Now the ability to control computers. So this is kind of like the rabbit r one promise.
like a specific computer, not like you can control all the computer they just want to for.
Has proper announced the end of the world? No, the ina is here. Yes, IT is an A P, I. Where you can build in. And claude can then take actions on a like computer, like virtual machine. So basically, you could build something that uses the door dash website or uses amazon maybe, and then build this kind of A I that does these things.
And IT literally, was that kind of the promise of the habit, or one's large action model, cause that what that's what rabbit was doing, like he was using the doorstep website on your behalf and just taking your commands and transport sing them to that. But this is now anthropic doing IT making IT open so developers could actually, like use IT. And you know, who knows, maybe this will actually, you know, start using as this is the agent type thing where you could almost have a virtual travel agent that if they can use the delta website and Hilton website, they could books stuff for you. And you know maybe that's kind of the future of IT, but IT is here and topic is than IT .
yeah I don't think this is going to happen.
Okay.
now let me explain. So they say like assa keva cognition, I don't know that is door dh um company you have already started to explore these possibilities. K fine, here's the thing. Dh doesn't want to just become a commodity provider of a service, right? They want to have a relationship.
And essentially what this is doing is, is like abstracting away those customer relationships because now you just become like an API service and none of none of those companies want to be that, right. They they want to have a customer relationship because that's how you like. Otherwise, you're not going to care if the food shows up at your house right now, right right now, you might use gob b or over eat or dash.
Maybe you use all three of them at different times, right? But you do there for different purposes. But you like you either is a brand recognition. And if all you have to do is tell claude, you know, send me a burger or whatever like that.
And I think that's part of the reason that rava has had such a hard time is that there's like, what if I doesn't have an API that they can use to do this? And so they had to try to hack their way to doing whatever was that they are trying to do computer the spot. I can make that like impossible. They just could literally suddenly change the interface every day.
They can move up buttons.
ten pixel in IT every day. They could just do that. And this just doesn't work.
right? Yeah I would I would be a major cattle mouse game. I imagine maybe website in the code you can block certain crullers or like I don't know how this appears as a user to the actual company's website. Yeah, IT doesn't be a cat mouse.
But I mean, I think it's is a user the thing we want a hundred and the thing we want i'm just saying that there is little incentive for any of these companies someone has to be to make the case. And I think apple with apple, intel gent might be the type of company that can make the case because the distribution, like there's a two billion iphones or whatever in the world, most of them can run apple intelligence.
But the point is that there eventually those people will upgrade. So you you're looking at a huge user base because it's like if you're the doors dash or if you're the delivery service is built into apple intelligence, you get all of that business, right? You might be willing to say I don't care about the customer relationships, just send me send me burger orders and that's fine, but you wouldn't do that for like anthropic because the .
user base is so small. Well, see, I had of use like claude and stuff in the chat. P. T.
yeah, it's definite Better. But most I just use ChatGPT because it's the, because it's the time I have up my computer. I it's just there.
I mean, IT, I think I have the ChatGPT APP. I think the model is generally Better. I think as a product is not as good because I think ChatGPT is near the product part of that.
Like I like I have an APP, I can just open the APP and IT has all my previous things. I can go back into one of my previous things and I going to ask you a question and that just goes back. And since all those tokens again, so and I can I know yeah I don't know.
I just does that have do you know that has short cuts actions, claude? I don't .
think it's an .
APP you don't think yeah .
you can download .
and down right now cloud .
by you know maybe I do have an iphone APP for you.
I think i've done cloud by anthropic. Is the APP opening the appear on my phone? I like there. I thought, yeah, I think you have to probably have to sign up to see if there is actually short tions.
But you know because that again, that's a majority of my vt usage is just shortcuts actions in no shortcuts actions that I could see well and one a seven season too. They release austral have like one of the trailers and it's amazing, terrifying, both excited and has the camera work on the trailer is wild. And if they did this and like an immersive type way that up, yeah you but oh my god, like, I yeah. Did you watch for you watch first season?
I yes.
what Stephen.
I don't have time to don't .
tell me that you say you watch your friends every night.
Don't tell me twenty minutes, twenty minutes.
So you can watch ephod over two days.
You think i'm going to walk seven before I fall asleep?
yes. Well, think, I think it's pretty good. No.
I think I I don't want to watch anything that requires me to think or feel laugh is fine.
but that's big watch service. We can have a wolfer part of only seven watchers will get that that didn't know .
the wafers get recalled because of like he call liars the real thing that happening right now.
like all the all, I think so yeah. Yeah, breaking lawful news here on a brand hair tech. Okay, last thing, personal tech.
I won't tell about pass keys and passwords. David hand by a hanson whose rubye on rails base camp actually interviewed him on the outside pocket. Several years ago. You talked about past kids and the issue with package, which they are reposed to kind of be a universal simplifying and bearing security for everyone's loggins and john gruber than required.
Dive in my hand son's article saying like, yeah pakis maybe not great and I was just curious year experience with past kids, Jason, once they were announced, apple announced this like dub dub D C three, two, three years ago. And I like, this is amazing. Just buy authentic ation for everything. I want to pass key everywhere. And then a lot of websites is support, I mean google support pakehas, the apple does things like best buy supposedly support pass keys with the playstation APP when i've proved time from his sun playing and you know the promises, scan your face and you're good to go.
There have been times when pakis fail for whatever reason for me, whether it's like the beta on my phone causing the packet to fail or best buy like i'm trying to log in on my mac in the past, he like doesn't work sometimes it's rare, but then I do find IT becomes pretty commerce on to try and log in. A lot of times there's still the username password two factor authority method you can use alongside with the pass keys. And I do knowing I do like knowing I have that option for whatever IT is that I need to log in with.
But I do think this is kind of confusing, and i'm also big on redundancy. And so for all my two factor authentic codes, I used to always set them up and I call password and one password more. So I ve just been sitting up in I cloud passwords. But even the two factor authentication code, you can like back that up to like a text file, print that out and put them in a safe because it's really just like the token is just a string of text and you can always like manually add that back as the two factor code for a logging pass key is not like that. It's literally bio authorization. IT does think like if you put a passkey in your eyes, clb passwords will sink across your devices but it's not as like back up able i've think is is too factor thus cause I don't know what what was your experience do you try to lean into the past keys or you can like.
uh, yeah whatever. I I like the keys. I think packers are sort of the self driving car of security. Here's why.
If everyone was in a snow driving car everywhere, they'd be expansion safer ably than human drivers, right? That's like the argument. Like once we get there in a very cars after, I don't know that will ever get there.
But if every car was self driving, they could they communicate with each other and they could not run into each other, and they never not be paying attention, and that would be great. But the truth is that just not the way the world works. If when pakis work really well, their seamless to the and it's just it's almost like way how can I can see my I don't think I signed in. Like can anyone see my is like it's just transparent. But when they don't work, like for example, have you ever tried to use the past and the vision pro doesn't work?
No.
I know can't log into google with past and my vision pro because the vision pro doesn't have a basket saved for like google, for example. And there's no way to can A Q R code with my phone in the vision pro in your face like it's just explain how the physics would work. We took the phone up into the the gago take to take the pet, right? So when they don't work, their their huge like bad experience for users.
But when they do work, I think that they're great. I think um I don't necessary, but I think DJ has a perspective of someone who's trying to use package as a service providers. And there are a lot of work, I guess, for service providers.
And his argument was like that they're like that they're not um as useful to end users. I think, right. Another biggest argument against pakis is they are not portable in the way the passwords are you just described.
So if I have all of my baskets set up in the passwords up on my iphone and then my work gives me an android device, I no longer have any of my passwords and I do have to go through inside the more up board if I had a password, even like I could either, even if they were in the password APP, I could just export those all like you described, and put them in one password from, for example. And so that type of a thing, I I understand that argument. My thing is one, I don't think that that happens that often for that to be the argument for not doing this right.
I also think that using my phone, which I mean to just you know bio authentically as my my authentication device, is that the best case scenario in my mind? So I I think pasques are great. Most people are terrible.
And managing passwords most like supermac, you can the the best argument for passes is you cannot get fished, right? You'll never be asked and enter a pi because you don't enter anything. But I feel like if you're never if .
I log like best bye, I have my asking set up, but I can also just log in with my password and two factor communication. I mean, I feel like you would have to remove that other method in order offered to be totally unfished, right?
So if you're using the best buy APP and you have a past key set up, um I mean, theoretically, if you have a pass key set up, that company should no long you should not have a password authentication as well. It's one thing to have back up.
So like i'm trying to think there is an example recently, well, actually google does this, where you, if your past fails, you can be like semur two factor authentically to my phone, right? That's a different thought. Then also, I gna actually, I think in a lot of google account, you can still enter your password that you is great, but I think eventually that would go away.
But I think it's like a necessary transition point at this points up. I don't know. I I don't i'm not against them the way that T H H is. No, gruber wrote about IT and he had some perspective on IT in both he and a bent times, which was to you and neither. They were like huge fans.
But like again, they also think like they think about them from like then times and has passport, which is a hold like back and the managers, all of his strategy, empire, whatever, in the log and flow for that is literally you just type in your email and IT sends you the code, right? So uses that email for so there is no password like there is no password for that account. They just send you a link in your email and there essentially outsourcing the security to gmail to whatever, which is fine. But what if somebody has .
your new email password? That was the thing I would say lately. I despise services and websites that logging links, the logging links, and that then they force you to being the only way to access your account.
One is opens clip. So like you cannot set a password IT is there is no way to set up a password to log in. I find that to be agreeable.
I do not like the magic links. Sometimes that the email doesn't come for a long time. I IT IT takes longer no matter what.
Like touch I D, your face, I D to log in with a password, and even two factors. Diction is always to be passed to. And waiting for an email with a log and link. And then I don't want to go to my email APP and click any service that makes you use the log and link by email down.
I mean, but you just made the the argument that represents attention of all security, which is convenient verses like the security aspect of IT. You don't like that even though IT is eventual more secure than a password because it's inconvenient for you because that you know link doesn't always come. But IT is a way, way, way more secure system.
And the reason is because IT is protected by your email, which is probably google, which has way, but at which you probably have a pity and a two factories set up on. And so you are like way more protected than just some right now. Again, for like my protect ory subscription is somebody else gets into that what I don't care, like you to read bands, articles, fine, hack my account.
There's nothing important attached to that, right? Like that. In that case, the security versus in convenience trade off might not be worthy. But if this is your bank or if it's the other, you know something like that best by maybe because if you have stored payment information to to go there in order four pairs of air pods, max.
And I mean, not only do you will not want to spend the money, you don't want that on a you just for, yeah I don't want you know, it's funny about that that one of the things I received when I got the review unit of this was something, something, something and they match your airport's max. And I was like, is that why these are this color? Because they matched the airports.
Max color do they met? I don't even know. But there's like two, there's like three colors of the figures as four colors of the I bet mini. Anyway.
I thought their plus max were slightly more saturated ated in color than not that minute. Anyway, well, let us know past keys. You tell you leave us a five rating and review this week and apple podcast.
