Who is about the form following the function of what? And what I am is a man in a man. What in the primary technology to show about the technology that matters? Another huge show today.
We have an m for mac mini review and has IT in hands. We're going to k first. Apple vision pro accessories and the visionary is beta now has ultra wide mac screens.
I was eighteen to public beta, but all the image tools I played around with image one ChatGPT search is now out, and it's actually pretty good. Apple acquired pixel matter and a tormo. This episode brought you by the data citizens dialogues, dc and dio ject and members like you who support us directly.
I'm one of your host, Stephen rollers. Joining me always is my good friend in the apple vision pro. Just kidding.
But he wears IT more than everybody. Jason eighteen has go on. Jason.
good. You know, I bet you most of our listen, don't believe I actually even have one. No, I think you because you've never actually seen me where one I just talk about using IT all the time sitting here.
No, I never worry on. I never worry on you because I think the same time, oh, you might be right. Okay.
what's sitting right there? In the case you, we believe you, someone said, I need to move the movie, quote, that we do every week back to the cold open and so I think IT feels right there. I think that i'm curious, do you know what movie that quote .
was from um you know to say one more time because you start a lot of words.
I said a lot of words, I I just kind of tell them off and now I .
close the test.
I think it's no, no, no. K, I got I I get said who who is but the form following the function of what and what I am is a man in a mask of .
the man okay? Is that guy fox movie um with another important and hugo weve .
yes yes yes you're on the right def than death. Ah you got IT k the most part .
if the mass was not in there, there's no zero chance I know what those words were that is the most .
were going to talk about the election on this podcast. I don't might even cut that up and we have a five star review shout adds to give and were going to talk about the m for mac mini Jason, he's going he would show IT on camera, but he's using IT right now to .
record .
it's plugged in that the up .
and at the bottom we have .
five star reviews and apple podcast from L P T zero nine zero one from the U. K. Brand and samples from the U. S. A. The the do.
I don't know, I don't know this is but it's do do lella from canada or give me if that's actually named I pronounce, sorry, a dob Z X N on florida fellow floridan what's up and dominant hand uh, pocket or dominant pocket for the iphone? No one of these other reviewers specified so it's not like, uh, you know washing away the the other answer yeah right. And just I was you going to look at that place and then graph from the U.
K. Thank you for those five star reviews. Leave us a review. There were a four point nine star podcast, uh, because someone said Jason wasn't afb enough.
I don't know. That's exactly the reason why i'm trying to be nice.
And that wasn't the reason someone someone gave us a one star view for something else. Anyone get to five star cast once again. I mean, that's what we were for a while.
So anyway, leave s us a five starting on review apple pod gas. We appreciate you and you get to shut up at the top of the shock. Also, our last episode did numbers on youtube has about five thousand views right now. So funny comments in last episode you said, I forget that was you must in the main episode, you said we have a gym ist while you were your tiger, one of your kids.
I don't think that's a controversial thing to say, but apparently the way I said that sounded like we have a gym like we've .
taken this so blue, blue keyboard on youtube was like, so what are your demands? Yes, I thought of the line from the avenger when tony starks, as we have a hook, you know, talking to locally in the world, we have a gym ist. We have k all right, let's get to IT mac mini m four you have in in hand. You have a whole article reviewing IT and i'm a link that in the show note, of course, you're probably to publish IT while we're speaking because recording reports actually like but but tell me about what what are the expects .
that you've got has has been yeah the one that they sent me has the m four pro with forty eight gigs of storage and then a one tero S S D um and forty .
gig s of memory. But because that not be a .
lot of storage and I don't know, said has the forty eight gig one terrible? Do I have to specify which is with you? Still are the audience of smart? They're figured out.
But I said around and the reason I think I said IT wrong as I literally was clicking little mac on IT to just to make sure I was saying the right amount of memory because I I was pretty sure of forty eight because the pro starts like twenty four or forty eight. The weird because they're not the same like no four start at sixteen and then you can do twenty four and then thirty six and then this one is thirty. Do anyone weird? So yes, uh, and it's amazing.
It's I rode my my take away is it's the most delighted new mac i've reviewed in a long time. It's super powerful for its not just for its size but period IT was faster than the m three max macbook pro and it's faster that in the m two ultra processor is in the mac studio right now. IT is absolutely ridiculous.
I tried to put into this article um geek bench uh like the results but yes, I was like, no, you can do that. I didn't say no, you can do that, but the image just disappeared. But I have them right here and IT, I mean, I don't have okay, so I did get a macbook proto review, but it's not an m four max macbook pro.
So I can't speculate on the performance of the tics and for that is obviously going to be Better. But other than the m for max processor right now, this mac many with the m four pro is like the fastest st thing applies ever made right in G P U performance. G P U performance, the the the m2 alter on the m3 max still smoke IT pretty good because it's got they just have more G P U course like a in most G P U IT just scales para。
I like IT just continues to like scale. If you add more you can do twice as much right so um but it's kind of insane how fast this thing is in how like I used to I like I used IT for all the things you do a computer. And then I see a bunch things.
Almost no one doesn't a computer like, match love. This match love is an addition record, audio, audio, high check, you know, color, black, magic, raw. And do vento resolve all of these things.
And you know IT was it's pretty much amazing. I I love using IT really the only knocks that most people would say are the power button, which is dumb. It's not a problem like i'm gonna turn away with the .
power button because there was some speculation on this. Can you hit the part button without lifting IT? Like can you reach around? Or do you actually have to physically lifted to the department? Don't actually turn IT off right now, please. No.
you you would have to lift IT a little bit. You'd have to have some super small fingers to get IT that lip, just no way. It's I mean that people were already .
three d printing like these little levers that would like attached to IT.
And then you there's not a whole lot of space there like i'm looking at IT and it's less than a half of an inch of clearance.
So right, it's not a lot. I mean, again, I don't think the only time i've had used the power button on my max studio was like in the hurricane because the power was out in my A P, C, battery died. Think that was then to turn IT back on. That was IT because you can program your mac to shut down and turn on on a schedule. You can have IT to turn on automatically after power outage, given you know you all the factors, whatever but like and I rarely ever touched IT .
yeah what I think you can also turn your mac off from the the apple menu, right? You can just go to shut down. You can't turn IT on that because off there's no menu so you'd have to like do that but like I just it's I don't even my my laptops, I almost never I can't think the last time I turned one of them off, the last time they even powered off was if they were restarting because of a software update, right? Like that's I don't know .
with with mac books, I believe you can turn them on just by pressing any key like you don't.
Unfortunately, that's true. The most effective way to turn your macbook on is to try to clean the keyboard .
right exactly IT. Can you turn on A I don't know this and you you don't have to know this. I'm just curious if you can turn on a desktop mac by hitting the keyboard of something. Imagine we have to be physically attached by U.
S. B. But I wonder if that i'm almost positive. The answer I am that but I because I don't care, but I did not. But I don't think it's true. I don't think it's sorry, have to be more alphago. I don't think that that's true, but it's a great idea.
I want to change your title, the affable l in gregory .
the other afford guys.
I I want to hear more about a one question though, because i'm looking at all the pictures in your review.
Did you take these with your iphone or like your big game is .
a very nice photos.
they're very mood. I just so yeah, the problem is I had to do IT this morning before the sun came up, because I needed photos, whatever, whatever. And I just, all of that that looks like its natural light is these bloom, q panel, L, B things. so.
Stack of things neck of the mac mini that's not even in like size order. You have your scary to I two on top of a cow digit dog, which is smaller. I don't know why those aren't t flipped and then I don't .
know what the reason why is because of the cord pressure behind that cal digit that if had done topic just like tips backwards. So having IT on the bottom keeps everything flush. That's literally the only I see.
I like aesthetics that that matters to me. But you what you know about me is I just do whatever is the most functional thing. I don't care. It's like this work. So I, but I could have taken him out, but I I didn't because I needed to show like I put that photo right below, know the power about the black magic raw.
the isaaa? Yeah no.
But there is a problem with the yeah.
Know your article says this one problem with the problem OK.
So did you know if you start with the base model mac minutes, it's five hundred and ninety nine dollars. And he has sixteen gigs of memory, two hundred fifty six gig SSD. And if you want to increase that sixteen gigs to thirty two gigs and you want to increase that S S D to five twelve, you can double both of those things.
And the cost of IT is eleven hundred and ninety nine dollars. You could buy two base mac minis for eleven hundred and ninety eight dollars. You would have the exact same amount of storage, the exact same amount of memory, and you'd save a dollar into me. That is preposterous. Even that is completely bonkers.
That might be the first like solid argument against apple .
tear pricing indicators that you could buy two whole mac minis for the same in hand. You'd keep a dollar for the Price of Operating.
I want to do this right now. life. So it's five ninety nine base. Yeah, if you go to thirty two giggs memory, so doubling that and double the storage.
it's eleven hundred and ninety nine dollars, which is one dollar more than two mac mines would be that does .
feel like one of the more egregious. I mean, that's where apple listen. Apple makes us margins on memory and storage upgrades like be real.
but I feel that gets a little bit on a device. So on a max studio where you're starting at twenty five hundred dollars, the pricing the same. And I I understand why the pricing is the same because whatever the s SSD, I mean, they're not yeah they're not going to like discounted.
But when you are starting at five hundred and ninety nine dollars and the thing is if you bought a second mac, I like I get IT people are gonna us like storage and memory didn't work that way. You can buy two of them and have thirty. You know, this is not the same thing. But you'd also get a whole new processor, all that aluminum, another fan, more ports.
a second power. But yeah.
look the second outside down.
put in to see which OK could .
stack them. Don't do that. Don't do that. But anyway, I just feel like this is a little bit insulting when you start with this, because I did write that this is the perfect computer of what you wanted do is have some kind of weird server set up and put the thing in your closet.
Even IT is great, but IT does feel like especially agreement that IT doubles the Price if you're going to do that. And I I just I think I think apple my takeaway on that was apple has some really smart people. I think they could figure out the math to sort of rationalize this a little bit without losing that much money, because you can buy a one terribly S S D, external.
No one terribly of N V E. S S D. So internal from crucial for eighty five dollars, IT will cost you four hundred dollars to upgrade that through apple.
To me, I feel like that's a lot of margin. And at some point, IT just feels like your like extracting rent from people kind of. But all that said, mac mini is amazing.
My final conclusion was even the base model for this computer, with sixteen gigs of memory in a two hundred to six A S S D is fantastic. And just spend the eighty five box on an external that you one tear by drive, and put all your stuff on that, and you will be so happy. And this the last year forever.
Or just buy an apple vision pro and you can use that of the monitor, just get IT totally undo any mony's.
Of course, you don't get any extra grammar or so if you 真的。
i don't do that, don't do that. Well, this is this is very exciting. I'm excited. Mind comes in tomorrow as we record.
I got the base model and anything I created was the storage to five twelve because like you say in the article, to and actually i'm to my entertainment center and I am going to to my home theater receiver, if ever wanted, just pull up the mac on the T. V. For whatever reason.
I don't know some people i've seen we're talking about this might be a good like gaming option if they were actually games in apple k. People want to play, see, you know connect the book tooth controller. You could do that.
But i'm really excited because I am going to do a video on that. But I haven't intel I seven mac many there and this is going to be a massive upgrade. And honestly, it's i'm speed difference, but just knowing it's apple silicon and I do log into my icd account on that and I don't know. I feel little weird having the l mac thinking some things. I usually turn all the thinking off mabe.
I think you will notice a big difference even the end forbes. So I also was sent um have finished reviews yet, but we can briefly talk talk about if you want to. I have the yeah and for imac with the nano texture display.
And then I also have m for macbook pro with a nano texture display, which by the way, nano texture, everything like that good IT is so good, especially in a laptop. I I telling you right now, i'll just give away. My take away is that if they've upgrade the macbook air with the option from OLED or mini display with nano texture, they they could double the Price of the macbook care and people will pay IT.
It'll be that worth that. It'll be so good. IT will be so good.
Why I don't I am hearing from you. I hear group talk about on the talk show. It's a two hundred dollar upgrade on the imac.
It's one hundred and fifty box on the macbook pro. I know just saying is, but IT is, IT is. So in fact, what was funny is I I had IT sitting on a desk, not hear in my office, but had IT sitting on just the head.
I'm some overhead lights and then a window behind IT and I just was using IT no video. And then I opened up my laptop, my macbook there, and like, what is wrong with the screen? And I realized there were so many points of light hitting IT that you are not even see at all. And the .
and the im, but you have a keen ee, you're photographer. You're looking at apple vision pro or leds every day. Is IT is IT a noticeable difference? When you look at like talking about color saturation, ation contrast is IT a noticeable loss.
I mean, no, no. Like, could a colli st tell, maybe the, I would say, overall, the screen, that the how do I differentiate this things like text and self? To me they did. They don't feel softer. And i'm not open IT up right now.
I got no cause what i've heard is that nano texture. And like i've seen some videos, i've seen people when they know apple actually had a little event in los Angeles where they were shown off these max and a bunch influencers were there. And I see people doing the macbook process by side with the regular, glossy and the nano texture.
And obviously the the most obvious difference is the relay of glare, or basically IT kind of refuses the glare across the screen. So if you have, like the glare anode cure really lessens bad. But at least in even in those videos, IT does look like everything is slightly less saturated and contracted. But i'm not .
sitting in front now. So I think that the display what IT appears that I mean, i'm looking at a random junk e mail. That's something all the tax is perfectly sharp like it's perfectly sharp.
It's just IT. Does the whole thing have a slightly softer field to IT? Yes, but I don't want that to be don't mistake that for less sharply. Ss, there's a different it's a different variable.
It's a different quality of the display that seems different compared to looking at a glossy just way like if I look up at the studio display right now, that's IT doesn't feel sharper. IT just feels like classy. I don't know.
It's our hard thing to explain. I would buy IT on everything I didn't buy on the studio display, but I would i'd put IT on everything. It's it's fantastic. And like, I edit photos, like I added a photos, this thing for my review, I didn't. I did IT on the studio display, but I would have had no problem doing .
IT on a different display. Did did you get one of the nano texture ipad rose when those came .
out earlier this year? no. But the joke is I when I got them for, I just put up paver like screen process.
That's right. That's right. That's right. mean.
But the difference is this nano texture goes all the way to the edge, unlike those those ipad where there was actually a shiny, glassy bozo. And then there is a nano textual display on both the imac and the mac by pro IT basically goes to the, to the edge. Do you have so .
the microbes that connected anything right now here?
Can you like .
just go to the test top and show IT on screen? Yeah, there are .
youtube views can see. So if you're not watch, just make yeah um yeah yeah yeah.
Leave one star review as anonymous. Ly, if you know what youtube conflate. H at prime tech show, the link is in the show to do. If you want to see a show.
go can seek text.
So the very edge, something happening with the volt.
I don't know why. It's because I knew to something I like.
So the black bezel around the screen is also ano tecture glossy .
intestine to hold up.
No, I see IT. I see IT OK. I sees that have to go on to check. They gonna make mean. I just, i've always been lary of IT.
Maybe because I have the old map screens in my head, which people who have been in the apple world from more than ten years, remember, you could get a macpro, the mat or glossy screen like you just had that option. And then I went away for a long time. And now nano texture is here. so. I have to look at IT again now.
I have I one more controversy about the macro pro. I'm going to give away my review. I haven't said yet. Oh, OK.
Uh, well, there was not a lot for me to right about because it's just a number four, and they sent me the base of base models. I think he has a one tear by S S D. So they upgraded that m pro.
m4 macbook pro。
So this you a more .
powerful mac mini.
So here's the thing I explain that is but is an m form macbook prosing gigs of memory yeah and a one by s SSD, which I think the only reason I give you the one to S S D is no one could even import. Couldn't they know that we couldn't I couldn't even put my stuff on IT if didn't give me that. Um in fact, on this one, I don't even have my entire drop parks downloading.
I just have like a couple of voters. But this m four macbook pro that I and I is one third of a pound lighter than the m three max macbook pro. And there's only one way that's possible.
There's less battery in this battery. But here's the thing that means that they could have made the battery in the base level Better, like they could have given IT more battery life. But they wanted all of them to be the same.
And obviously the m four pro and m for max require more battery right to get the same amount of performance. And I I tried to figure out like what the difference in the chip is like, like fractions of announce, right? Like nothing.
And even the SSD, the m four max is an a pound heavier or the employ max, but yes, it's not like a third of pound heavier 4x he informed。 But i'm just saying I was wearing IT comparing two m three max, right? Because I have one of those sitting here.
And so I put IT on a on a post like on a scale. I got postal scale, whatever. And IT was like a third of around heavier.
And I think the only way to to explain that is battery. Batteries, the only dense enough thing. And there to make that much of a difference.
And I feel like, why did you just feel this thing with battery? Make IT the same way? Nobody about process complained about a third of a pound.
right?
Like five. Hey, definite. All that data is so .
heavy photos on my phone.
but given IT so much Better.
So the way difference is .
like a third of a pound.
it's kind of significant actually.
It's noticed. But like I kept pick in a mop and i'm like I can't pick up the m free market now because it's literally just serving as a stay. That is something it's actually been wiped.
But anyway, that is interesting. That is kind of ashamed. And yeah, they could make that kind of like a battery monster. They were more battery running and m for that's.
But I don't think they wanted to have to explain why the m four gets more battery than the other ones because it's like, great. I pay more money for this m four max and I get less battery life. And so they I but I like, why are you artificially reducing this thing that could just last for days?
That's true. I will tell you i'm going to be tempted different when the m four macbook air comes out because i've been taking stock in my thing. You know, I have my m three pro macbook pro and I had no reason upgrade to him for anything macbook pro, but I want the reasons why I kept IT.
And maybe you can answer this to the S D cards lot, which correction from last week I said the previous mac mini had a nesty cards slot that was false. There's not had a nest cards slot in the mac many. So just no, you didn't lose anything with the new, but I kept the macbook throw over the air because the S D cards slot.
And as I continue to think about IT, I haven't used that S D cards slot. I don't know. Like the whole time i've had IT OK, I I wanted to because like, well, if I bring my camera and I record a thing one to IT in there, I don't do that actually any time i'm away from the studio, I film with my iphone now, so doesn't matter. So the t cards, that doesn't matter to me personally, but the display, the display on the macbook rows, which is the pro motion display in all that compared to the macbook here, I know you use a macbook, are kind of a change ably like, is IT noticable to you. Like, do you feel like me?
Yeah, the mack book pro is the best display apples ever made. Like IT just is so, so, so good. It's Better than the detail display. I would argue in some ways, it's Better than the X, D R, just because it's a laptop and you can take IT with you and it's not high reversion and is not .
six thousand dollars the macbook pro promotion?
Yes, you're right. R, I have right.
And I mean.
I don't never noticed that on my studio displays. I guess I don't care about that is much, but all that's to say the display is noticeably Better, especially like I watched inner seller the other day. Don't ask why, you just reasons.
I dix, you don't need reasons. You can watch anytime.
I had to explain black holes to my son, and I watched them. Of course.
that's how do you have been a good father yeah .
anyway so but I was watching part of that on my macbook pro and it's just I mean having basically IT said an old ad but it's is closest you're going to get until you put in all that on there to have that deep black whatever. It's so good now that sad. If you're comparing them side by side, the macbook probe display is significantly Better, but the macbook are display is not bad.
It's fine. It's totally fine for all of the things. Even if you're going to do video editing and stuff, it's all fine. Like it's it's there's nothing wrong with that. It's not promotion fine.
It's fine. I am looking at the the prodigy lay X D R text back page yeah it's it's sixty hurts too is not even like ninety hts .
whatever I I won that that is the worst. That is even worse than what I just said about pricing that that thing is five, four thousand dollars without stand, without a stand.
And if you want nano texture on that is another thousand dollars. Stephen. I mean.
what is even happening? I actually IT makes me think differently about the people I knew that bought one of these. And now at the time, no dia display, but still.
but also the fact that this came out in twenty nineteen with the updated mac pro. So this display is over five years old, Prices unchanged. I mean, this a classic apple like Prices unchanged, if features unchanged, that's IT.
That's I mean, I I am attempted by this anymore. I was on the first game out, but I can back two in the anyways. But now the studio displays so good. But now now like this, and I will say.
hold on, I will just say the the city splay overall is a little bit of Price and so I don't know that it's worth buying another one with .
nano texture. I know yes, I do. I don't. I mean, yes, but it's also a great display like sure, in in my tech world, when I have the ability to buy something where once I have IT, i'd never have to think about IT again.
When I have the option to do that, I do that. And like, for instance, microphone wise, this is my podcast, mike earth works. Those I I have a the Michael record videos with its the same hai I R M K for sixteen two thousand dollar microphone and I D never want to spend that much on a microphone.
I had plenty of other mix, and I just kept seeing other people talk about that. If you buy this, mike, you never to think about mix again. And I don't realize what that felt like.
And when I I got this maybe two years ago and IT is a nice feeling to think I never have to even look up or think about microphones again, because, like, IT is just the perfect mike, and I never have to do anything about IT. And so the studio display is also that for me, like when I got this, I had the L G. Ultrafine, which whatever find display. But when I get a serious players, like i'm good, like i'm totally good, like this is exactly what I need and I don't think about is the great size. So anyway.
there's to be said that I mean, the only downside is there's like a little baby iphone in there, which is going to somebody die and it's gna premature ally. But think about IT like hold on. The argument against the imac has always been, yeah, but what about when the computer dizon you wanted to just use IT is a display but what happens when you buy a display in the little tiny computer and IT dies and you can't just keep using IT as a display?
I mean, listen the line, I have an ipad second generation in the closet that if I play in, I could still use IT just fine and that thing is, was ipad came out twenty ty eleven. You say you can use IT just fine.
but you can't update any of the software on IT. And you probably can't use half of the anymore .
what software might display to understand their software .
that updates. But I mean, if this software is saying, like I it's a fantastic display, I agree with you. I just it's weird to me that they put a thing in there that we could prematurely ly because this space, this is the same display theyve been using literally for what this is the twenty, maybe the the IT works amazing.
It's it's fantastic and the web comes fine. Don't at me. I saw somebody asking you about .
the the year display.
And on that note.
it's much, much Better than the power by. And let me say that .
one of the few archaic moments from j and eighteen, I want, like what we have, apple, apple vision pro accessories that I came out, jazz actually has some in hand, so are going to show on screen. But before we do want to thank one of our sponsors for today, which is the data citizens dialogues hodgins I mention on last week, episode so fun, have a podcast on the road cast. I feel like it's kind like an ideal thing.
But the data citizens dialogues podcast, if you listen to show, you're probably interested in data. Where's data management? Data security, data privacy? If are interested in data and you need to check out the data citizens dialogues podcast, the link will be in the showed tes forward thinking show brought you by the folks over at calibrate the leader in data intelligence, your first hand from industry tightens innovators and executives ves from some of the worlds largest.
Companies, as they dive in to the hottest topics in data, you get insight from popular staple such as A I governance and data sharing down to more nuances, questions like how do we ensure data read ability at a global scale? And I actually been listening I listening to their latest episode, which just came out yesterday as we're recording this podcast. And IT was with Jordan galvin talking about data governance laws having to do with data hazard affects companies and how they manage data privacy security.
Super interesting. And I think if you listen this show, you love that show as well. So what data maybe shaping our world? Data citizens dialogues, is shaping the conversation. So follow, follow data citizens dialogues on apple, spotify and youtube, whatever. You get your podcast, and i'll put this link in the shown as you can just click up podcast part fy r says you too, wherever you'd like to listen data citizens dialogues podcast thank you for response ing this episode and our vision pro still used IT everyday.
everyday. I have not used IT yet today, but I was busy this morning.
You were busy.
Did you publish your reminding me? I've probably said .
I just got a notification that M K B H D video .
went like to say.
before we start to recall, you were talking about embargoes lifting. And I i've trying to think i've had an embargo, but not for an apple product before. But this is one of those things were like you look at the time, you look at the date, you want to be very sure.
But to be really, really sure, it's nice to know someone else published to and yeah so the M B H D review life because I got a notification and yeah that i'm sure there's going to be plenty of others. I go live here. Let's go, let's go look at my youtube home page and see what is live here is i'm got the m okay?
yep. M, K, B, H, D made himself many extraversion of himself next to the mac, many so day ago. And yeah, how to get thirteen thousand views already in for six minutes?
How many? How much? How long I get to watch the counters of you? Eight seconds? Is that what .
the counters of you know another one for me, right? Anyway, this is on boxing. The for me, I link to this video, but you should go .
read Jason's article first. Please do send you have .
some embargo to apple vision pro accessory and where we're going to fight to the death about which which of these cases are Better.
We don't have to fight. We I mean, you can win if that makes you .
feel about I don't really no right. The first one that which I think is interesting and this was already shown, I don't know. It's an apple website.
You can buy no embargo. And I saw this around social media. But belkin, who made one of the first or the first third party accessory for rapper vision proof, was the battery belt clip, which I bought. And sitting here in the drawer, the belt battery belt club, which I have not used since I bought IT, and I think I cost like forty dollars, uh, there is now a build head strap for apple vision pro. Curiously, this is like to be used with a solo net strap to go over the head as though apple were added to have this be comfortable for lang periods of time, you should really have that strap on top. And while they include the dull strap in with the apple vision pro, when you buy IT, if you like a solo nit, which I personally do prefer, the solo and strap now you can actually get another strap the belt can not to go and up with.
You have this in, haven't right here. And I haven't actually used that, but it's right here. Wow.
it's in a box. And I was about to ask you how I was.
Well, here's the thing. I use the dual strap already. So this is really designed for people who want to use the solo thing, right? And which I guess is more comfortable behind your head, right? But the problem with that is like you head up, tighten so much that you feel like your head is gonna crucible or whatever, to in yal comfortable .
is a crucible. Is that stocks .
it's bad situation, whatever is. Can we just degree like, yeah, it's an unfortunate .
way to wear a .
head that the me this .
is getting a higher than P G. rated. So that's that's the heads of Jason.
Nice to try that I might actually get in. I did try. There was another third party, head strapped.
IT was like a hard plastic one I talked about on a previous episode. I return that because I wasn't very comfortable. So curious to try the belt.
Would you also have a case? The evolution pro e is going to be apple selling IT the belin case. Oh my G I have .
an apple vision pro lunch box right here. It's IT does do two things that I like. Okay, besides being half the size of the apple one, but it's got a little connector up, little pouch appear for the battery. So the battery is not just like free riding in there.
And then IT has a little you can see there's a little protector for the when this so there's a little little piece folds up in the kind of like fits perfectly in where the lenses are to keep that protected as well. I got a couple of packets and use IT on a plane. Should I do? Should I take a mac mini on the plane next day?
Please, please do that. Just set up your little mac money on the trade table like IT into power apple vision pro.
What if I just don't log in into power, but set IT there because no one also know right? No one else would have any idea.
Well, here's micro. Have you used IT on a .
plane in the apple?
Never used a plain j. What do you do that? One of the best use cases is like a one univerSally accepted use cases, to say that vision proves great on a place.
People do. People really do that.
Europe there in first class. Anyway.
knowns looking at you, I mean, not flying the portugal. And first, just to be clear, you have a long flight.
Take IT in the belt case and use IT on the .
time file directly from boston to portugal. So yeah.
you should do IT do IT. Anyway, it's a cool case. I still have the waterfield apple vision pro case. They send me this early on, and I really like the compact nature of this and actually fit in my backpack. So are you going to take with you to portugal at all?
Uh, I wasn't going to, but actually know that I have the little tiny case.
I mind. I think you should. I think you should. And for science, science.
for science. And for, you know, the podcast.
yes, for the past, the cast, I said I was going to put the visionary s two or two beta on mine to try the ultrawise screen makeing. But I still but if you do the visions as to that to beta, you can is upgraded the resolution when you connected to a mac. And there is now wide and ultra wide modes. And have you tried this yet?
Not yeah I have not put that beta. I I depend so much on my vision process I used every day that I can I get other beings just i'm totally joking.
say I know you use IT everyday, but things that .
no one depends on the vision for that much of the camp debate on .
IT yeah that's i'm going to do IT but charged up anyway. You can do the world wide mac display. I'm i'm curious i've not tried this, if you can. I know in the control center on apple vision pro, you can basically do the mac mirrorlike. You can trigger IT from there.
I'm curious if I can trigger IT with a headless mac mini, which is how mine will be in, which is in not familiar just means there's no monitor actually attached to IT. I'm sure if I be able to do that with the vision pro. So yeah typically have i've gone this like weird H D M I donkies.
They're tell the mac it's connected to a fork display. So if you screen share, you get a four k you know display because otherwise sometimes they'll just give you this like really small screen thing if there's no monitor played, but it's either here or there. I'm going to tried that I also want to talk about, I was eating that to the public.
Data is out if you want to try that. Some people are still waiting or image playgrounds, which, you know, I don't know how much mission, but I will say I finally did the video going through some of the features and i'll put this in the shower notes. But one of the features in the latest beta was magic wand.
Or excuse me, I said magic won throughout the entire video and then realized that was wrong, is called the image wand, where you can use the apple pencil circle things, at least that works in apple notes right now. And I will just create a images of whatever the text is. So if you do this, like an apple note right now on the beta, IT all just pulled like random text.
And so this was a note rogier testing things. And I like pulled hg gardens of battle on podcast microphone and something else made like a looking microphone, which is not helpful, but you can also select text. And then in the contextual menu, which could you to say is getting very, very long now I use to like text now on on ipad, iphone, you could tap that right arrow and it's you got like cut, copy, paste, look up. And I got writing tools. You have translate, you have an undo, and now you have generate your create image very long.
And almost as bad is trying to find something to watch on netflix. You just have to keep going down rabbit holes.
I would feel like they should change that to the like, like a vertical contextual menu, right? I mean, isn't that more .
maybe if you could just tap on and the system.
what you want to do? I mean, look at, look at this. This is the context right now. You got fine selection, look at transit search, web speak share like and is an error there. There's an an error if, but they so small, it's so hard to tap anyway.
So what you can do now in eight to two, if you have image playgrounds and access to the image generation, when you select text in apple notes, and they should be coming to the eyeworks weet like pages, numbers and keynote later, you can tap create image, and I will just generate an image from the text that you had selected. And so that's what I did hear. Images are all like this kind of comic bookie illustration.
You cannot get a photo realistic image from apple's image generation like I just will not do photo realistic anything and IT won't do people. I asked in multiple times to try to do different people and I just I just refuse. It's like.
IT shows you this error that says images involving people are not supported that was being very careful not to do that. H which means I couldn't also um I upload a picture of chance Miller from nine to five. Mac i'd tried a children .
as as a twelve year old.
this basic, I said, at the h two bit, and that was like a burn. I was like, what? Obviously that is A D H thing, like one more, anyway, but an interesting part of the ChatGPT in integration.
If you start a command with using, like use tragic ties. So if you tell the voice system on your phone using ChatGPT generate an image, global blood IT will do a photo realistic image because it's actually an image generated by ChatGPT. And so this one I can get IT directly just by asking the voice system on my iphone.
Or you can do this, uh, you know, using a prompt, a, but that's ChatGPT doing IT, not apple intelligence. And you consider ChatGPT thing at the bottom. And that's how I got this.
Uh, I got a medival night riding a polar bear, which honestly is the the best thing that i've done so far from any image generator. I thought that was great way. So the best thing about apple intelligence is the jg p teens.
Oh, that's unfortunate.
But I mean, what would you? Because you do you have IT yeah. You sending gene mogi?
no. Well, sometimes I my son who only has an apple watch like he's a text deficient ada, like actually he's just an attic. Maybe that's Better way of saying IT and he is he's actually pretty smart. Most of his responses don't sound anything like him, and we figured out that that's because he just taps whatever, whatever the prompts as a response. So you'll be like, k, could you make sure the graduate doors shut in his response to be like, of course, i'd be happy to I D like your time ten year old zone respond like that like never or we're like, hey, we're head at home we read a banquet last night in his responses like, please drive safe. Please drive doesn't care .
no kids says that .
anyway so it's a bit anyway, he'll send things and when I were so, I I have made a habit of to him sending him back to mode because he thinks it's very cool. So here we like, I love you so much and so I think that I love you forever. So I made a demode, I of a heart with an infinity sign in the middle of that.
And so he thought that was very cool. That's good. okay. And then the kids have really enjoyed having their photos made any image playgrounds, right? And none of them look anything like them, although they kind of do IT like it'll hit certain characteristics and eventually horrifying when you make them enough like yourself, you like, is this what the world seems I look like?
See, that's the thing. You know, I can say half ying and people like they're not hard. fine. Listen, I ve had several of these images like there just, I mean, this is actually of a witney grandfather.
I was like, that's definitely not used, Steven.
that is not me, but even my kids .
here are going.
Isn't IT my son? Like my son's im actually looks pretty good. Uh, IT looks somewhat like him.
but he looks like hands from frozen.
Oh, a little IT, a little bit hansei hansie. I told I just do I mean, I get that I should gave you a more recent picture anyway, because thinks I has more, I have more hair than I do. It's it's fine. Now you want to talk about notification summaries and I do think, uh, i've had the increasingly bad experiences with IT, but tell me about you.
I don't understand why everyone likes so much that the thing I don't funny yeah but they're super not useful in a lot of scenario. They are good at a couple of things.
So for example, of the new york times up and I get about forty five notifications, especially this week a day power like it's just insane and it'll just know IT summarized it'll be like, you know, Donald trump, one michigan camel, Harris to concede that for something else, the oil refinery fire and luiz ana, those things are not related, but it's good because I know that my japan and i'm going to see those things I knew we wanted take about the election. But those were like the most recent notifications here. appreciate.
So that's great. But IT is sort of assumes that all notification types from a given type of APP are of the same type, which if you think about that from email, is very much not the case. And what IT does that I don't like is IT shows you who the most recent email is from.
And then IT summarizes like four nails, none of which came from that person necessarily. And I don't it's like this is not in any way useful. So i've actually turned IT off email completely because IT is a completely not helpful for emails at all.
I would be fine if IT showed me a notification and summarized ed, like what I like, what IT does in mail. APP, that's fine. Don't think you. So i've had to turn that off completely for that.
I've also had to turn IT off for other types of apps that like I don't know why I had notifications on them for anyway like it's just there some things that are just very strange, uh, because IT doesn't understand the text of like what was this APP. It's just looking at text in groups of text and trying to summarize IT into one thing I feel like for messages. It's less terrible, right? Because it'll be like your kid text to do about this and someone else text to do you about the other thing or something .
for the issue that I ran into. And you can turn off summaries per APP in case you're one.
And I suggest you do that.
I suggest you do so. Last week, I was going to record a podcast with the guy he asked me to be on as a guest. And right before we were going to record, he mailed me and he said, I just build bunch of stuff on my desk.
I don't know what's happening. I need to post on the recording as a no problem. And when I got that email last week, the summary said, you know, equipment issue we schedule like that was the summary and I was like, not bad.
I mean, that's sure what happened this yesterday. I think that was earlier this week we had when we had we scheduled the recording for I got an email from them. He was just reminding me like page just so you don't remember red, like we were recording the male summary IT looks at the entire thread rather than just a little message.
So the summary of the mall said, equipment issue need to reschedule. And I was like, that happened again two weeks in a row. And when I open the email, I realized he was just in confirming again, but the summary was pulling from the whole email chain.
And that immediately is like I feel like apple needs to change that to say only summarize maybe from like two days emails but don't summary the whole chain because i've email chains, you know, maybe several weeks along right, like I talk to like sponges and be like doing a brand, whatever. And to summarize an entire email chain, one line, you're gonna get some bad information, just not gonna summer. So when I saw that yesterday as OK, that this is not greatly, this needs to be adJusting just like maybe the last message, like only summarize the last message, a new message, but unlike not the entire change or .
give context, it's like recording you know confirming recording previous recording schedule due to equipment issues. That would be fine, like you understand. My favorite though is the google home map. We have the front um well, we have a backyard camera in our front yard camera, another a front yard camera.
We have a front camera that will notify us if it's these people, right? And so yesterday I should have screen out this one of my great regrets in life that I didn't there. There was a notification that pops up, and IT says multiple people seen in backyard and foyer. Yes, are we're being invaded.
What is actually happening? And I just meant that there was three notifications throughout the day that he said, person seen the backside and IT was me walking out to my office, right? But the notification summary is like multiple people in backyard, in front foyer.
And it's like the calvary is here. It's over. We're done.
One of my most proud joke, I most proud of this joke that I made the other day because someone posted an amazon notification summary and IT says packages eight stops away delivered and will be delivered tomorrow. And I said, strong, just pack. And I I was so happy that I made that joke and I didn't anybody else make IT first.
But that is that is like I will because I have all the smart home things and I have lots of notifications. And one of the annoying parts of like the garage is I do wanted get notified when the garage door opens and closes. Sometimes that happens a lot, like if my kids are going in and out or loading the car. And so i'll get a notification summary. And IT says garage state has changed multiple times and it's like, yeah.
it's George. Now IT is both .
open and closed throg's garage and and I feel like maybe apple ligious could be tweet to say I give in the last state like that's really what's important. Like garage multiple changes. You know how open and closed mutio times is now closed, is now open like that. I'd be more helpful tweet. I almost think maybe .
apple could make some kind of an API for developers for notification types where a subsequent notification is essentially overwriting a previous notification, right? Because you don't need you to I don't need you to tell me there are some maybe you do want to know, but like I don't need to know that they were the I notification somewhere that seven people ring the door about today, especially if it's going to say there .
are seven people at the front door. There's a group of people at the front door.
back door and even be honest, in our day in time, i've there's never a time when there are seven people at our front door, literally not even if we were having a Christian party, they wouldn't all show up at the same time. So in this day, like the world we live in today, if you got a notification and they were actually seven people on your front, you would be tired. You'd be in the basement. You really have a basement, you would be. So it's like the verge, that's literally the verge is the plot of the person .
they they should apple should just summarized IT to just say you are surrounded just surrounded the shower that mean .
for like April fools or for halloween someone one of one of these vendors should have been like the purge started.
You're under siege. You're under siege anyway yeah it's it's just got to be tweet. I should probably turn that off because I have summary turned on for .
every application I of things .
yeah I D ends to call the other day and there are like those summaries were and helpful was like tomatoes we have and don't have tomatoes and yes, tomatoes yeah I don't know that yes. But anyway, that's apple intelligence. We have talked about ChatGPT search because that he was a huge thing that they announced months ago and now is actually live.
And you can use IT before we do. I want to thank our second and final sponsor, which is there's just one of my favorites. It's audio hijack by rock a eb.
We're using IT right now. You listening to our voice right now is next to audio hijack. Now we record this podcast as how we record the audio for all of my videos.
IT is just incredible, powerful to you. Do anything with audio on your mac. Recording IT routing IT audio hydrate is the way to go now responding for a number of weeks.
And so I want to share something different this time, which is their brand new blocks, which if you are familiar without your hijack, it's so user friendly. You can basically just drag blocks like building blocks, and you make a signal chain, and you can say, here's my input device, a USB mic. I want you to run that through a compressor, those blocks for that, or EQ.
Give me the little levels, meters, and then record IT to whatever format you would like, even recorded to multiple formats. Another, they have new blocks, including you have magic boost, which will boost the audio on an input or signal. There is the mixer block parametric EQ. But also they even have on, you know, if you knew this days and I did not have a train scribe block.
but, you know, I did not know that .
they have a transcribe block.
let me to quit to, no, no.
don't touch IT right now what we're done then you but you can add a transcribe block. And with the magic of about your hijack, you can have that include multiple channel. So like you can have, you know, your audio input, I can put an APP.
So like the web around that mean j and are talking through and had those combined into a transcribe block, get a full transcription. This podcast, like I actually going to do this after, were done recording because that would actually be really helpful. Yeah, I can run that through like ChatGPT and stuff.
amazing. This is the power of audio hijack post. Look, they're always updating their blocks. It's just amazing. So here's what you do.
You go to mac audio dot com slash primary tech and you can get twenty percent of audio hijack ker any other bundles with the promotion de tech X X all in where tech X X go to mac audio dot com slash primary tech. The link is just in the one sheep. And if you've never tried that, you have try audio hijack. We just love IT can't have good .
things about yeah it's so easy that I had to set IT up on this a mac mini this as we're getting ready to record. And if you just heard me say that, then he worked because that's how were record in this if you didn't hear anything, he didn't work. But IT was so very easy, I just dropped him in there and were good to go.
It's amazing. So try mac audio accounts. Primary text links in the shown notes are very gracious, thanks to audio haja and rogan eba response ing this episode no chat ChatGPT search is a thing which they also just bought the domain chat that com for like millions of dollars yeah, maybe that's worth IT.
I don't know. You can now just go to chat dot com and get uh ChatGPT. But so ChatGPT search is out now.
I feel like when this was announced months ago, there was a lot of fan fair like GPT search or search GPT is gonna a big thing. And I almost felt like he was going to be a different application or like a different place to go. And now IT is out.
IT was kind of just to, I don't know, feel like minimal fanfare is kind of just snuck out there. But it's alive. And if you use the chat P T APP or if you go to the website, there's just a little search icon. Now i'm going to share my ChatGPT window here and you'll see there's just little search icon and you can click that and whatever your prompt is afterwards is going to search the internet and it's going to give you an answer.
And honestly, it's been pretty good like I just asked that what is the primary technology podcast and with the little searching thing enabled, immediately gave me primary tech, that of im, which is our website, and then give me a little summary, which is based on the podcast description, which is great and even included links apple podcast, spotify and amazon music for the show and they all work. I can click apple podcast and that brings me to our show page in apple podcast in the same as spotify and then has little sources thing at the bottom. It's so for web searches, honestly, IT has been very good. But what has been your .
experience with IT? Yeah, I think it's, uh, very good. I was I I was formulating an idea and I realized after that thought because people expect me to become trying and but no, it's very good. I'm i'm gonna write more about this so I don't want to give way too much of IT at this point.
But I do think there's a reason that google is very nervous about this, and I think that they should be because just think about all of the bad things that exists with google search and basically none of them mixed with this. And it's in in fact, I feel like you can be in the ChatGPT APP doing a web search. And IT does a Better job of getting you to links than goop does because google just wants to send you those I summaries and a search to push links down.
Ah I did I did quite a few of these are just to play around with that because I I sincerely like my thought is that it's could replace google search. For me personally, the only downside to a google searches is actually much more. I don't know if open is the right word than we think, but like you can basically search for anything, maybe not exactly anything, but the boundaries are pretty like far out there in terms of what you can search for in google search.
But with ChatGPT, you couldn't even search for the election results. Like if you try to search, I typed in, I don't even know. I just typed the world elections results.
And I just as I may not have the latest updates, visit the ap. Ba baba. Then I just typed like, who won the presidential election and I started to try to answer that.
And then I stopped and IT replaced that text with I may not have the latest up. It's for more. So they're definitely putting some boundaries on some things.
And maybe that's just because it's so new that they weren't sure how to respond and they didn't want to overloaded IT or whatever. But then I just typed in the word lions, right? Our hometown foobar team and it's like they're currently living in the nsc north. With seven to one record, they just defeated the Green bay packers twenty four to fourteen, making IT the third consecutive in at the venue.
Um even after in hutchins see these and engine injury, the lions acrobat like IT was good IT new a new way more of the lines than you do like IT was, which is I know a low bar because you don't watch sports or anything like that but had they are upcoming schedule that shows you all the sources, I think it's I mean this in honestly, this is more useful than just typing random stop to check actually if you take like the ability to actually do the searches and and I like the way that I presented a lot Better so I think google this is I think one of the i'm waiting for some smarter people to check in on this. But I think that this is a could represent an existent al threat to what to because google is a really like just think about how much money they print based on google search. IT is absurd.
IT is like the most brilliant business idea in the history of the world. And uh I think is their business like ninety person yeah and i'm saying it's the best business idea anyone ever came up with like organized the web spent trillion about. Not really, but spend a bunch money organizing the web, crawling IT, making an index serving that up to people.
Don't charge them just still ads. It's the best add business. IT is the biggest ad business in the world so this this could be yeah and .
i'm looking, uh I searched to google for how much what is the percentage of the revenue? I got an A I overview. How much trust that but this is google's advertising revenue was seventy about seventy eight percent of its total revenue.
Search ads are the primary source from google search, which accounted for about fifty seven percent of google's total revenue. So not ninety percent, but still very high percent of the revenue. And I just so I was the kind of my mom with her to twenty eighteen rap four or infotainment system like froze and is now on a boot loop.
And so I was searching for virally last week, trying and figured out we just ask chat G, P. team. And first of all, it's started by saying, i'm sorry to hear you are experiencing issues with your twenty eighteen to raf and so listen, google doesn't me there.
sorry. I appreciate P, P, T, trying to of my issue. And IT gives me some solutions here, which i've ran across all these and other other worked. But I did give me a source to go like to use this page or whatever, which even that have struggled to get to with google last week get to, you know, really go down a search for but I want to try for more things and see what happens.
But just you you you commented that like, oh well, you know eighty percent or whatever the number is, is not that much, but it's I mean eighty percent of whatever like three hundred and five billion dollars, a whole lot of money. Really the only things that are left after google ad business is google cloud. And people who subscribe you like google workspace, right? Like for business.
And I promise you, either those things would exist. IT wasn't for google search because that's all the money came from to build gmail. Ogle.
although I say thought, I mean, i'm curious they break down maybe a quick between youtube ad revenue and google search ad revenue. I see google search ad revenue versus youtube ad revenue because they just said ad revenue total IT seems like a google search and other revenue increased to represent um okay, not telling me again, google search.
Well, I think youtube es ad revenues roughly ten to fifteen percent of google search. So I think it's I think the way that breaks down is like roughly thirty six billion dollars for youtube advertising versus like a one hundred and seven year something like that for google search. I could be wrong.
but what I just, I just, I just use the g GPT. Search option. Here's what I got. IT is in last year, goods total advertising revenues approximately two hundred and thirty seven billion. Gives a reference to statistic, statistic.
And you say that I was a statistic.
All these google search is generated about one hundred and seventy five billion accounts thly seventy three percent of the revenue. Yahoo finance, youtube s contributed thirty one billion, representing thirteen percent of total add reviews.
yet was roughly right on the numbers, just not the percentages, because I can't do math .
in my head on a podcast, right? But so I just did this exact I literally copy pace what I put IT into google and what I and then put them in the chat, P. T.
And ChatGPT. Give me Better answer anyway. Yeah so ah I want to be using IT more often and I think it's pretty good yeah it's pretty a good couple quick things. Then going go to a personal tech, which is you actually bout three in one .
charger before you can I say one thing about the chat can 哦, there's something interesting because a couple years ago, hub spots cofounder published post on linked in about how he had spent ten million dollars on that domain name, ten million dollars he paid. And then two months later, I think I was, he sold IT for more than he paid.
No, and he didn't say the time who he paid who bought IT, although that, but that seems as though the person who bought IT was time elman, open eye, whatever. It's so like someone paid a lot of money so that they can redirect chat outcome to ChatGPT, which honestly like makes a lot of sense. But now you know why they had to go raise six and half billion dollars because domain names are getting very expensive IT .
seems name pollution is out there. Yeah, here's i'll link this. This is the linked in post from the sha. He says, two months old, I bought chat tok on for ten million plus .
dollars yeah I mean, it's it's not entirely clear if it's possible that he sold that in someone else flipped to sam and or to children. I I don't know like because if they bought IT a year ago, why did they wait this long? So I don't know that we don't know all the details. There's a whole out of going. But I am saying is we know that OpenAI paid more than ten million .
dollars for that to main rock.
which is why I thought .
about buying a Stephen dotcom for a lot of but there's no there's no reason for no reason for that. So I really quick news last week, this is right after I think we recorded last week's episode, but apple acquired pixel matter, pixel I use pixel matter, or all my imagination needs on the mac. I use pixel matter on my ipad.
And it's incredible APP. It's one several apple design awards. And now apple has acquired IT. And just a short little bug post from pixel matter. Then, you know, apples done IT unclear what will happen to IT.
And so, you know, I am of two minds on this because you can look back at different acquisitions. If you remember years ago, apple actually acquired logic that became logic pro. Apple APP workflow.
The APP became shortcuts, comes up on that acquisition because shortcuts has come a long way and has more access to apples like hardware features because in the first party APP. So that's cool. I also acquire dark sky and incorporated IT into the weather APP.
So that did not stay the standalone APP is just part of whether I think weather got Better. I still miss dark sky a little bit. So you know, I have to save about that. And in light of this acquisition, if you remember, apple just still have nostalgia for was apple's pro photo editing apple to disappear. So i'm current on the final cup pro required to you.
The final cup was originally made by, I think of macro media um and there was no market for IT like everyone who was using non line editing at the time was using avid, right. And and so like they couldn't they couldn't figure out like a way to like sell IT and stuff. So apple bought IT from they actually IT wasn't IT wasn't the entire APP at the time.
I was like their what is called key something something, something. But anyway, key grap key grip. That's the way they bought key grip from macro media and they really named the final cut and they turned IT into an actual thing.
I actually was at um the nab show back and I can remember what you IT was like. He was like right after high school. I was in college. So like ninety eight or something anyway and there's a demo I saw demo of a very, very, very, very, very early on and I didn't abusing a fera while after.
But it's but like that a was like a revolutionary up at the time because you used to have to have like these massive avoid systems, which required you to like they used to have like the dangle, like you had to plug in like a hardware dang GLE that like think was actually avoid still does that if you buy an avid like pro audio work station, you have to have a license key. Imagine a physical, it's ridiculous and and then you could run on a power bug. IT was IT was my boy.
That was my foray into video energy. I used ee movie when I got my first g four power book. And then I got final cut express because they actually there was like final cut pro, which was like given this massive cardboard box and I couldn't afford IT, but I could afford final cut express.
I want I think, for like a hundred and fifty box and that send me on the road that I mean today. But anyway, so apples acquisitions, they've gone different ways. Sometimes they become standalone first party apple apps like shortcuts.
Sometimes features get merged into apple apps like weather. And what will happen to pixel matter. I'm cares with your pontification of what might happen. A lot of people feel like apple just keep IT IT just become an apple APP maybe rebranded, maybe not, but IT will be apples like pro editing, pro po photography editing, upper pro imaging APP. And we will finally like be competing with a doby on this front.
Um I think uh, another possibility, I think this is less likely that apple just can't tries to merge some of those features into the photos APP and tries to make the photos and more popular. I think as less likely, I think it'll be separate at least for a while. But I don't know. What do you think?
What you going to have? All right, I have thoughts. I was gonna breathe. I live to the light room versus approach wars. I was a professional tiger tiger for the time, and I was an apple person.
And I was in in the extraordinary ily small minority just say that like there's a reason that they got rid of aerator. I would go to like wppi, which is a huge like wedding and parts of photographers convention in vegas and apple. And there was like there would be a couple of their people there, but there was no, but like, there was no booth.
Like, you couldn't just go talk to the apple people because light room was just everywhere, right? Everyone was using light room. I even, I even participated shot, like I added out.
I shoot out type thing with a light room. Now one of the reasons why light room, sort of one that battle is IT was more portable. You could make so you could actually outsource your photo editing to someone and they could just send you back some like a catalog of like xx files or whatever.
I can you could just merge the two things where you couldn't do that with epicure. That was one of the reasons um I think that the this acquisition goes one of three ways you kind of described IT could go dark weather, which would be terrible. That would be unfortunate, like you would be bad, right?
Like the weather is dark weather, and I thought was up.
I mean, I love Carry, so i'm fine with the fact that dk rather doesn't exist. But dark weather, the time was like a dark sky ark.
That's how I .
feel about the weather APP. Now it's dark ther dark guy, i'm sorry. Um or I could go like the way of like what final cut in like logic where they bought something and they turned they kept as a full feature developed APP.
I think the more most likely uh acquisition because if you like, just think about some of their big acquisitions that theyve had in the past, right? Beats, beats just kind of lives on as its own thing. No, like really like in the the real reason they bought beats, that was they turned beats APP into the music APP.
But other than that, there is no beats streaming up anymore. So apple doesn't really buy things for the sake of just I think the reason that beats continues to live on as a brand as IT was a huge like hardware business at the time. Like that's really .
the only reason he has cash .
to like and he has an audience. And it's like, well, we don't have to build the audience. We just have to keep giving them things to give us money for and so that they did that. I don't think that there's any question that what's going to end up happening is the features and technology and picks are just going .
to end up in the photos up like that.
No, no, Steven, think about IT. They're there's not rereleasing apa. There's zero chance that they are ever gonna release a pro APP because that market there's no room in that market. There is zero room for a pro photo that prophetic graphs would use.
There are a lot of presumed photographers s that would be like something more than then photos because what the the new lightning is that APP that is that APP is opposed to lightning classic, right? Like I actually most of the time just use the new light room. I don't know what they call IT like, they just call live room. And there's live room classic, I guess. But Steven, like I don't I don't think that we're going .
to say got to .
use your head and not just your hearts.
We're going to make the way you're right now. I don't know how long is going to take, and we'll see. I don't know how many years down the road this will be.
We will have to come back to this episode market down and see who was right episode. okay. I am saying they are not going to merge in into the photos APP.
I think they're going to keep IT separate. And I think that apple is going to. Make the play to have a professional photo. Again, I don't think we'll bring back the name, but I think IT will be a separate APP.
And if you look at the treated like look the ipad, everyone else for props on the ipad, and we don't talk about as much more, but apple did give IT to us. We got logic pro on the ipad. We have final cut on the ipad, even final cut camera.
We do not have many people using IT or whatever. I think apple wants to have that cause that is the missing piece like in the puzzle that when IT comes to, you have video editing final cut, you have audio, you have logic, you don't have the photo editing APP on there. And I don't think they want to complicate the stock photos APP that much because it's still mass up.
I A look at the redesign of photos on the iphone alic. You cannot serve professional tools. It's how that APP currently functions, which is still not crazy about IT ever. As I say, it's gonna a separate APP. It's going to be apple's professional photo APP and will see if it's six a picture made a name or not.
But it's going to be separate. okay. I didn't think this would be the most controversial part of our conversation today or long. So I try to can you think of an example that where this where theyve, where they have had a open space, they acquired some technology and they just kept that and left IT alone, because logic final out don't count. Because when they did, not my movie, but the difference with logic in the head garage band, but the difference with logic and final cut, is they were filling a pro market that was inaccessible to most people. Because, again, an advice stem.
I don't know what, you had to have fifteen, twenty five thousand dollars to have an advice stem, right? Like, I mean, for real with final, do you have a power book in a super drive and you can use I D, V D, and you can make you think like I, but I can think of another market because that does not exist in photos. The above consumer, but accessible to anyone market exists in its light room or or pixel matter that's fine or photo matter, excuse me, but I don't I cannot think of an example where they bought a parallel technology and then they kept IT as a standard. They didn't keep the beats s APP as a stand alone next .
to I I think I want to be apparently like I didn't have a parallel, but I do think the workflow .
APP into shortcuts. They didn't have anything they .
had to or they saw value in IT even though he was pretty niche like shirt t is widespread like it's not like most people use IT, but they did choose to keep in a separate thing and continue to develop IT. Even it's really bugging. They don't have a lot of actions.
A lot of times like IT is still there. And you look at apple intelligence and pushed there, I think apple would love to say we have apple intelligence features board video. And you know, they talk a little bit about this, like in the final cut for ipad, where you can like ride on IT and I will animate for you.
We saw in the mac many announcement video that the transcription for captions is coming. They might be talking about A I features and final cut. I think they would love to say we also have apple intelligence for your photos and for imaging, whether its content aware field type stuff for just generation like whatever generation why you think so i'm i'm just going to say I think they're na keep a separate I think they're to make a play or pro photos.
I think pixel or maybe photo matter definitely.
And maybe it's just one thing, like you could just be one thing.
but I mean those two, I mean, pixel matter is a competitive to photoshop photos. Ter is light room capture photos like I don't think this anyway, photo matter continues to exist. Pixel matter may be because pixel matter is just a photoshop in apple doesn't have a but they're not going to take the pixel matter, photoshop features and put the photos because, right, right.
that would be absurd. I was not thinking about photo matter, I guess taking more pixel matter in my head because that's the apple used to make nails and stuff and that I can see them keeping IT like a first party but then also.
but also I po that's a that's a graph design. P .
right?
And I don't think they want to compete with, I don't know, I think don't .
people bring photos into photoshop though? I mean, the photos literally in the name, like do people .
bring photos and .
light room is a thing.
You're a prophetess. I feel pretty confident saying this that you are only using photoshop for the client that you hate. Who says could you please take out the basis or could you please do this thing that you're doing actual design work? We're you need layers like otherwise there's really no reason to go in the photoshop because light room IT has like A I general remove tool like I almost did IT this morning on a cable hanging down and then I realize that actually take the last time to just move the cable and retake photo, which is what I did.
What days I would like you if if you think this is worthwhile. And ink dot com article arguing about what apple is going to do for the apple .
and pixel A O, I love, I love pixel or pro on my back.
and I just don't want anything to happen to IT. I don't want you to go away that. So I think that's what i'm really speaking from, right? Anyway, okay, I was fun, but I don't want to hear about a three in one charger very quickly.
I just want to mention that we had a listener to send me this article. This is from start waiting him and he said a radio station attempted to replace their holes with A I and I ended in disaster. And so I just want to say, Jason.
we are served the nasty that coming.
We have several good years of hosting this podcast left before A I replaces. And so thank you. Start for sitting that I feel safe now personal attack.
We have talked about three and one charges in the past. Jason was not a, he felt no reason to buy a three one. You don't need three one charges.
Then I sent him a three in one charger. And I don't know for sure what that sounds like. He's not been converted because he seems to have boat one on his own.
Yeah, I mean, I actually what I did this week had nothing to do. I mean, you send me something, the nights and which, thank you. I do use IT because o what mostly I use IT because once set IT up, IT was used to just not take IT down.
I I do notice that someday they wake up and he has not church. The airpower s because it's little thick. And if you don't line IT up, quite right, map, the light glows like real, right? Like it's going to wake you up to the general, a position on starting, which is not a thing I actually care that much about. Like i'd rather sleep. I can plug them into accord in the morning for five minutes and i'm good for day.
I would just aside that i've review a lot of three, one and now even foreign. I don't know you saw that video, Jason, but then I have a foreign one charger which can charge iphone, your apple watch, your airports. And another phone is is a fourth two charger h but I will say the airports, there are some three in one charges that has a little tiny magnet IT will actually align the airports on the charger. Those are really the best like ah anchors three, one has one, I think it's omy god, theirs has a little magnet of lines. The airports, for some reason most of them don't even from like the bigger brands like belt or whatever, everybody used to have a magnet that along the airports.
it's always to say, I how degree? Okay, have a problem though, which is you can see my desk right now, but I have an addiction to adapters or charging adapters, things I don't know lie, I just buy them. And so I did.
I bought three in one charger. But before our listeners get super excited, I found this. I was okay.
I'm gonna trip next week. I was getting my charges together. I have to get my universal ones with the weird things. And I even have an anchor one. This is obviously this is just apple adapter with the prongs on IT, but I have one of the anchor ones that has a multiple thing and it's great and I love that because I take IT when to go overseas.
Um but then I mean, I Carry around with me various versions of these like anchor charging things and I I was, you're going to be a real distracted by this but I went to have to know mad and I bought one of these backs, right? Few people. Yeah, I love IT.
It's fantastic. While I was there, I was like, h, you have a sixty five watch charger. There has two U S, B, C.
And I ve been using this anchor charger with two U S, B, C in one USB a. And like, that's points why I don't Carry a USB a cable anymore. So that's dub.
I should just get rid of this thing. But while I was there, Stephen, I found this, which is the U. S.
B. C. Sixty five, what charger dual. And on the top IT has an apple watch charger.
So this is my three in one charger that I can take with me, and I can, I can actually take you on this trip because it's U. S. only.
But I can plug IT in. I can plug in my my watch in my phone with cables, and then I can touch my apple watch on the times of IT. Although it's not going to work in most talks because most of you have the pgm in like down or whatever.
So I don't know. I just really thought that this was fun to have a even like, I mean, I have so many of these things, like why do I have that's not? I can even pick the mall up so I bought three one. So now what you think I .
know I love IT. I think um you know I actually have a couple three one, I send you another one. Oh, but this want to be for travel. This is like one of the fold out three in ones. So it's compact, but you can do apple watch airports and your iphone and IT folds nicely.
Is IT twelve south that has the butterfly one?
No, I reviewed the butterfly and the native union has one and anchor has one. I reviewed all those. I honestly like them all less than the max safe duo because they're very floppy, like the little connector between them is very floppy, and I just don't prefer IT.
So I like to see kind of the more. The slightly larger, but they're more study three in ones or two and ones and like i'll show you the uh as if I can reach without unpacking my headphones. I'm reaching from my back back.
You i'm going to go to my pocket. You have A A S M R of me on zipes my backpack, 没有 this。 This is what I used on a travel. Now is the belt in two and one. And you know, you actually show me the picture of how you, a little .
triangle.
and then you can charge iphone here even, and stand by and in the apple watch there. And you know, you could charge airports pro on either or those two. So this is what I used when I travel.
But belin has a three in one version of this, where IT stacks like this. But IT has one more little pad that comes out very dedicated airports. So, uh so Jason, about to three anyone, that's the bottom line.
All right, we're going to go record a bonus episode.
