Brazil anti trust regulator has ruled that apple must lift its restrictions on in at purchases in the country within twenty days or pay a daily fine that is equivalent to forty three thousand us. dollars. Specifically, apple must let APP developers in brazil link out to their own websites for payment, or let developers handle the in up payments themselves. Europe, japan, south korea and the us. Have all made similar ruling.

Just give up bible, give up. Uber in house data labelling division, which IT uses for its own eye solutions, is now available for other companies to hire. The division is called scaled solutions and non uber clients like aura, which makes autonomous trucks.

Niantic, which does ingress and pokemon go, are using IT scale solution, works by hiring contractors as necessary for projects. So lot of the headlines are like uber gig work for a data labeling. It's it's not exactly as reform as as driving for uber.

But yeah, there's a similarity. I get IT. The cotters come from all over, including canada, india, nick aroa, poland and of course, the us.

A company in cornwall, in the the united kingdom, or really specifically in england, has developed a gam ray detector that can assess soil quality. A farmer near bodman is working with scientists from the university of plymouth to test. The detector is mounted on a robot dog from a company called robot tricks. The robot moves that about five meters persecute was a little faster than than I can run, and can climb difficult terrain to cover the fields, instead of manually digging up soil from a few areas in the field and then sending IT to a lab, and then waiting and having to pay a big bill for the lab, the dog can just want around and monitor most of the ground for levels of radiation, which indicate the health of the soil and saving time and expense, of course, after you have paid for the dog, which I imagine would be kind of expensive. But there my basic made, not so .

robot dog, robot dogs. In theory, i'm in one of the things about cornwall, as I understand is there's not a lot of mountainous regions like you. I don't think, uh, traversing the farm is is really .

doing anything that's .

more it's cy fountains.

not not like whales is but but yeah I mean, I think there's that yeah specifically is just very unhappy ground. So you wouldn't you wouldn't be a smooth to have IT just rolling. I think .

I mean, I have no problem with us. I mean, I think maybe the person who was like what I was doing those before might have a problem with a robot dog. But I mean is that is there are even a person doing that right now. I think, you know we all especially when you're talking about you know a soil that will probably end up being food that somebody eat at some point. Let's figure this out you know is the radiation you know what we do about this I am all in ah .

it's that we're good about the food being radiated. The game radiation tells you something about the soil composition .

and beyond the ability yeah to make the food.

It's like how does the soil need to be replenished? Does IT need to be fertilized more in this part of that part and and what the farmers were doing in the past was kind of spot checking, like, okay, this part of the field looks like you might need a little attention. Uh, now they can, they can get a much more detailed look.

H, and no exactly which could save them money on on fertilizer. IT could save them money on on, you know, all kinds of things to refresh the soil, I could imagine. And it's going to probably be useful for other things.

This is just doing IT with the gamma detector. I wonder what else I could be doing, right? Like, could IT also eventually like scatter fertilizer or plant or you know identify weeds or pests or something like that?

I also you mentioned like, okay, this moves a little bit faster than me. So the robot moving at five meters per second. That's fat.

Yeah.

it's like the last human I go say .

I can probably go five meters persecuted for short term and time. If I really put not to go all day, it's going to cover a lot of ground.

I I want to see some sort of, know, I don't know, some some video of of an area of this robot kind of be yeah doing its thing yeah this is IT. IT seems like a very good example of where a robot or a machine, what everyone to call IT, is really, really effective in ways that humans just we're not capable of doing, not at that capacity and will end up helping us um you know in the end game yeah I think a lot of times .

we look at these these quality pet robots specifically and at least some of us think like, okay. So you're making something that looks impressive because IT looks like a dog. But what would IT really be good for? Uh, and this is a great example of of IT being very applicable.

I don't know if its cost effective. The bbf story on this didn't give us a Price on how much this dog would cost. Obviously, it's a research studies, so this farmer is not paying for IT. I wonder if IT would be cost effective.

Can you make this robot cheap enough or have at least or something like that where a farmer would spend the less on having the robot around the field that I would on sending the samples to the lab to test the soil? Um it's possible. I don't think it's a guarantee that's why my head immediately went to. But what else could I do? Like maybe you could make IT worth the money that you would have to put into IT if if you can have to do several things for you and then those add up, right?

Yeah, yeah. I think the overall cost of something like this, and especially does this work on my particular plot of land, know that your mileage may vary. They called miles in the U K.

Yeah do um but where your your kilometers may vary but but yeah, I I don't know. I do you know I would love to hear from anybody out there who's like, well, this was my job and the robot dog took IT away from me. But I don't think we're going to hear a lot of that is probably a more a lot of people being like this is awesome. Like I basically got a Better a one .

more ah especially in farming. You have a shortage of labor more often than you you know the threat of something taken IT away. So so I think this is very much a labor saving device and and a cost saving device potentially as well. And just I like this because it's an example of robots to doing something that isn't just like Carrying a gun. You know generally, the robot examples are some kind of military application or potentially some kind of search and rescue, which is a great application.

I'll get me wrong, but it's see yeah.

it's nice to see sorting sorting things for a warehouse. There's number three. That's a really good one. It's nice to see a different one. That's why this .

one got well, always new mate seventy smartphone series has gotten a bit of attention today. IT uses advanced PS manufactured domestically, pointing to progress in china's own semiconductor industry despite U. S. Sanctions going on for a while between the U. S.

And why we, among other companies, but why we specifically, Richard you, why, with consumer group chairman, called the flagship device the smartest mid phone yet the mate users always on harmony O S. Next OS, which was officially launched last month, the main line also promises AI capabilities, improved photography, live translation, tions translations of phone calls, just smart phone stuff, the five g phone, what IT is features sm is seven at nanometer chips. Analysts said this development could reshape global supply chains because that showcases china's s ability to innovate under trade restrictions. Lot of people wondered how, not necessarily if china could do this, but how long IT would take for china to do this? Lot of folks also wonder if what waves production scalability can rival global, uh, h global competitors.

I'm sure everyone in the audience is shocked that always his own consumer group chairman thinks that the mate is the smart est mate phone. What what is surprise? But you don't have to take his word for the reviews of this have actually been very good, that this is a really interesting line of phones.

Ah there are some some quibble with the harmony O S. And next uh some folks are like, yeah fifteen thousand apps. Not a lot of apps always says we're going to have one hundred thousand within a few months.

Other folks have have noticed that there are some bugs and things that are not as smooth as the version of this, which, by the way, you can still buy a version of this with the previous harmony OS that runs on android and use the android apps if you want, but always not going to do that in the future. They say in twenty twenty five, all their stuff is going to have harmony OS next, so they need to work out the bugs. But I can't tell if the bugs are any more serious than the early bugs of, say, the earlier versions of android know, which turned out not to be fatal to the Operating system.

So um I think this is an important step for railway. And beyond that, it's definitely showing that putting the restrictions on china did not keep IT in the past or bring IT to the bargaining table so far. So far, IT has caused china's domestic industries to speed up um and get to seven anomie chips.

Now grit, they're not to three anomie or chips. There is going to take a long time for them to to get up to pace because the culser they get to the current standard, the harder it's going going to be to make that progress. But I think a lot of people are surprised that they're at seven antimatter already. And for consumer electronics, especially in a country that's amenable to buying domestically, patriotically buying the way seven antimetric chips are always going to be plenty powerful for, for most folks there. They're to settle a lot of these.

What do you think would be the if you had to guess the timeline would be to get from seven animators to three?

I don't know. I don't know enough about chip engineering to to really say for sure. But let's guess something like you double the amount of time for for every step forward, right?

It's still just going to keep getting harder and harder. Um no, but they'll get close enough that you really won't matter that much like they won't be able to sell a lot worldwide. But domestically, china is able to tilt the market in their favor.

The public sentiment is on on their side too. Know it's not like people in china don't like that way. They prefer while away because there are restrictions because the us. Tried to essentially shut the .

company down it's town.

Ah exactly. They are probably like why we more now than they did before us put restrictions on hallway in the rest of china.

I'm wondering, okay. So apple obviously is has already been 对 bit of the victim of always kind of resurgence。 I'm wondering know what are the other companies? Is that a stand to to lose the most from railway? Uh, I mean, jill, my sure, just because they're the direct competitors, but what are the other companies that are you know, shaking in their boots right now?

I think jammy is probably doing alright there, git, to start making their own ships as well. And and they're they're able to compete outside of china Better than hallway is because they have fewer restrictions on them. Then what way does china has restrictions in general? And then what we has extra ones from the us.

So I think jammy is probably okay. What's that company in china that is not from china, but they make a really easy to use phone. And it's like one of the china's one like one of their oh, apple apple that's that's the.

Was like what you doing right now?

Yeah yeah, yeah. I think apple has the most to lose here because there from the us. And so they have a little bit of a hill to climb with people.

And um they are running into issues. For example, apple intelligence, they cannot use ChatGPT there. They can even use all of their own apple intelligence there.

They're looking for a partner and running into the road blocks. You know it's it's not in a lot of domestic company's best interest for apple to be able to compete on A I. So they're going to make IT harder for them.

Yep.

yep. Well, folks, if you want to hear a talk about something on this show, one way to let us know is our subject. You can submit stories and vote on them at reit dot com slash r slash daily technology may say, well, didn't I used to be able to go to ab?

Musician drake has filed a lawsuit in new york supreme court alleging the universal music group used bots and bribes to artificially inflate the popularity of kendrick lamer song not like us. Among the accusations is that u. Mg gave spotify a thirty percent discount on royalties for the song and exchange for increased promotion on the platform.

He says that that's pay for play. The suit also alleges that a podcasting was paid to to use bots to add thirty million streams to lamar song, which would be against spotify zone policies. And drake also accuses apple of purposefully misdirecting theory to play the mars not like us when a user asks IT to play drakes certified lover boy, there is a famous phrase in not like us the uses the word certified, which could also be an explanation of why siri gets confused possibly.

And the suit accuses U M G of plant paying djs to play not like us, so a good old fashion pail accusation. The suit aims to compel discovery of information in advance of a potential reo lawsuit against emg, a rack recovery ring, a organization crime. U M G, of course, denies all of these claims.

Not like us was one of several songs made when the morn, drake raven, a beef the summer that briefly included j. Cole before he bought out. But not like us definitely won the beef at least in popularity and became one of the most popular songs of the year. And IT appears. Drake has taken up the offer to shape the story.

how he wants by, oh, tom, I see he did there. yeah. So first of all, this, my my initial reaction when I read the story was like, this is just sad. You lost your rat battle.

You know, for anybody who's not familiar with what that even means, it's like somebody had a song, someone else had a song, who had the Better song? In this case, there were multiple songs. Okay, can trick just won? Everybody says a so um and track was kind of, I don't know, quite about IT for a while.

Kinda ick has been doing in sort of a ongoing Victory lap for some time now about this and you know I which is great or not depending on who whose campaign but the whole idea that, okay, so so drake, the artist is going after u mg, which he, he, he, he works with, specifically saying you you artificially made this other artists to have, like the cooler song of the summer. That is sad because, you know, maybe maybe there were some handshake agreements, but I mean, we all are we all just sitting here thinking that this is the first time this has ever happened. Also at the bangs on, everybody likes that on.

I mean, maybe at me know not for kids, but but there is just there's no way there is no way that the song was just sort of like artificially created you know, to to become a success where IT just like no one liked IT. Yeah, that's just not true. No.

I think I think it's a really good point to point out that draws on republic records the mars on inner scope they're both wed by universal is a curve like gather different labels and different label s under one corporate family can I can have a fight um but IT is a little unusual to see you go after your parent company like this it's basically saying like you like him more than you like me I if I had any doubt of whether not like us was really popular, then I would want to give drink the benefit of the doubt to say like hey, if if they manipulated things uh then then that's against the law, against the rules, against the terms of service, whatever uh and and they shift to answer that. I don't like the sort of idea of like, oh is just a crybaby because he's lost if there's a case however, I don't get the sense that not like us was popular because u mg paid spotify to spin the right like nobody nobody was .

bumpy that into my ears you know I liked to a once I like this song .

and I listened to IT one hundred more life reaction multiple goodbye right? Um yeah so I I I would also say the crime here would be the universal music group wasted money if I was the spotify and a ter to do this um although actually I think I think drake was saying that um that lamar's own organization was paying the podcast to spend IT that I could more likely see you know when you're in a in a beef to be like let's pay somebody to produce the stats and get IT up there but I don't think that's why I was popular even if he did that. So I don't you know maybe a slap on the risk of if that was the case, but IT IT does seem like this is not necessary.

There is also there is a streamer his name is escaping me right this second um who said this lawsuit accusing apple of misdirecting theory to play not like us when a user asks IT to play drakes sort of fied lover boy which is a totally different album um which came out uh a long time go not that long go but but others um the streamer was like, yeah I don't actually think that siri was doing that maliciously. I think IT was just bungling and things because that theory sounds like you for the three part of a lawsuit is like, okay, we will word the evidence that this was like militia yeah .

I don't get I that's the least the least in in order of the claims here, I would put the apple purposefully misdirecting theory to be the least likely to be true. I put the paying the pod caster to try to do bots to add streams most likely to be true. And then yeah, maybe maybe that deserves a slap on the rest.

I really doubt that u mg. Was trying was trying to bring drake down. On the other hand, would they on the other hand, I could absolutely see them say, yeah, we will give you a discount on the royalties if we get increased promotion for any of their side.

For Billy, I lizer anybody else at U. M. G, right? Like, I don't know if that's illegal, maybe IT is. But I could absolutely believe that they would do that not to get back at drake, but just to get a song to be promoted more.

I think you know the the reason that this is a unique beef and now laws IT has a lot to do with the fact that you know, for anybody who hasn't been following this, and I would not lucky for not knowing what's going on here because a lot of this is very petty stuff.

But we did cover in earlier this. I just did robby did a great explainer of so you go back and find that episode if you .

want yeah but the whole idea of like, you know, someone seem like i'm the best rapper of all time and someone else been like, no, i'm the best rapper of all time that's basically what's going on here yeah I mean, if you really wanted dumb down, you know, in a natchelly that's two two rappers doing that. There were some other folks involved, but essentially that's what IT is. So it's sort of like, okay, well, if the if the rapper over here on the right side said we'll know i'm the biggest rapper of all time and the bus and and the the other one on the other side is like, well, now i'm mad I made that why was a drake doing .

all these same things? Is the other right like eto? I'm not saying two wrongs make a right, but like if if these are the kinds of things happening, I mean, is drink trying to to make us think like, oh, but i'm above any dirty tricks during a rap beef you know like I just. All right, before we get out to hear, let's check out the male bag.

Let's do IT if you want to make the most of your travel points on your next trip. And I knew I do. Chis Christian has a good website just for you.

This is great Christ from amateur s with another tech in travel binet. I'm surprised that I haven't named this resource before on these updates, but point M E, or point at me, is a useful tool if you collect airline points for finding a way to use them for a particular trip.

So for instance, I looked for my daughter to try and bring her and her family out to california for Christmas, and went to point out me and searched for the rth that they were trying to fly. And IT very quickly looked through, not just one particular airlines frequent flour programs, but a number of different programs all at once. So it's a meta search engine for points and miles, and that's quite useful.

I actually bought the standard plan for this rather than just using the free version. But even the free version can be quite useful if you're looking for how to spend your airline points and miles point down. M E is the resource. And this is Chris riston son from amateur veller.

Thank you, Chris. Good resource. go. Uh that out is also linked in our show notes point, not points point that M E um we also have some followers on my problem with the charger following out of the wall socket.

Yes, still, last friday at tom, you mentioned how your charges fAllen out of the wall socket in gdi. We all kind of talked about, oh, you know, what's the what's the best course of action here? Few of you sent in suggestions, and we thank you for that. Under route, I got this u Green unit with one hundred watts and three USB ports. And one, you be a pod and IT plugs into A A lead rather than into a wall.

I actually had one of those as well um but uh didn't didn't pull IT out because it's kind of big and bulky. I just wanted to use the little one. What we ve got more. We've got another one.

We ve got another one, a tim wrote in, I bought a fight pack of these, a sensibly to be able to use large wall world of plugs on a power trip. But one could be a solution for a floppy hotel socket, as IT has an earth, and the socket end is less well used and therefore title and in many cases, IT would touch the floor and therefore release tension on the chart.

Yeah, a few people had the suggestion this is a good one. Just they're like little many extension cords, but they have the ground plug so they stay in the wall socket Better. And then a lot of people wrote in and said in the newest version of the anchor charger that I have, they include a section cup so that you can just selection IT into the wall that helps to stay in as well.
