Welcome, everybody. Do another exciting epsom of home. Kid insider, you you give me your host is always andreo hara joining me this week. I'm fairly certain as a far distant related cousin of current, the frog IT is a west hilliard. How you doing?
Then pretty good, woke up this early this morning. Did the thing I see, oh, is is still my shirt there IT is they give the sadness little stickers at our voting poll was just IT was I want the really big one. I want one like the size of my t shirt, just like me, like I did IT I did my thing.
But no, yes, i'm i'm actually awake today. I'm excited to be here and talk about how nothing changed with home kit with eighteen up two. So right.
I know. I mean, okay, we've got actually some big things. We go on a manana home kit world because we've got, you know, apple has an entire week of announcements, which everyone right now is debating so that three days, four days, five days, seven days, i'm so rooting for magic now, monday. And then I walk around out the week with the big one polishing cloth v two, that is my prediction, may be will get a couple max in there, but magic nounce mondays in polishing cloth friday. That's what i'm rooting for in the, in a polishing .
class with .
USB c finally, last accessory.
the E, U demanded. Ens, all polishing .
class must be compatible with USB c devices. But then we use like you said, we got our first beta of eighteen point two along with like other you know appropriate editions um visual intelligence comes the iphone sixteen line, which is okay. It's it's like really good.
Like i'm this is something that i'm going to use quite a bit. I've been playing around with IT like I was watching TV yesterday in our room and I was just curious at how IT works. So like we've a projector in there and I use visual intelligence to pointing at the screen and IT popped up and was like, oh, this is a projection on the wall. IT looks like a comedy show.
What do you want to know? And i'm like, who are these actors? And it's like, what show is this that would help? So i'm like, okay, this is from super stories.
Uh ah well then that is clearly this person in this person when they're dressed up in halloween causes for comic effect like what you were able like your guy, I told you the show, but you you're able to visually identify who those people were in costume and put that all together and you also somehow new was like a projection I mean, I don't know which this was a photo of my wall and IT was still as a yeah that's a projection, not a TV or something else. So who was really neat? How much I was able to clean from that?
It's interesting we didn't get into IT too much in the main apple insider show a visual intelligence. So I I mentioned IT is IT is the game changer of so far of all of the little AI things and writing tools and what we got to relive n the main go into details like I I believe in intelligence is actually really well executed.
But of all the things of play was so far visual intelligence where you get a little bit of apple intelligence, a little bit GPT, a little bit of google image search like it's all baked in to this button and that is going to be the killing feature as that grows and changes. And maybe we'll get different um AI features from tian to set a ChatGPT and stuff but i'm also found of I don't necessarily I never really used GPT before, but you can um use IT now without haven't really worry about IT because it's not using your data to train its models. Apple has this whole deal with them.
So I just feel Better even though i'm using IT and maybe it's not a Greenest thing in the world, but at least I know that my privacy attack my data intact and IT actually maybe you want to use this product. So like I whatever rappers doing here, they're doing IT, right? And eighteen, not two exciting in its own way.
I'm still in the q for apples kind of sad looking image generator, but we'll see how that goes once actually get a hold of of but the whole this update i've seen everyone saying and I agree um well, I have intelligence, was kind of a preview on that one. This is really showing what it's gonna be in eighteen dot two. And now i'm kind of excited for the future of this.
I think when everyone was like talking about the camera control and I go it's not that useful and I can give me figure like I agree with those things. But at the same time, I also think that this is what I was for, if this is why apple decided to make IT was specifically for visual intelligence, everything and IT just didn't have enough to show off like right there at the beginning. But I think that is going to be a key thing and is a lot that you need to do with that. So and with you, I think this can be really fun to see how that changes.
Yes, it's just really smart that smart phones or the camera now and giving IT a dedicated camera button that can double as a AI button is just there. All of these important characteristics of the smartphone tied to this one area as a device. I really think this is gonna low up.
And we haven't really seen that super cycle yet. Um so but that's not homecare related. Again, go this in the main show we get into detail is just, man, that really exciting stuff happening is just where is where's all that matter support. Apple still hasn't really been paying too much attention that maybe they're too because of the AI stuff. But I will will see how that goes in the future.
We will see how to go as well. I guess hitting the news. The first thing up is quick set has a new smart lock. So this is a very compact retrofit lock.
IT is called the quick set halo select quick halo select um but IT has both youtube, I believe for you, or local stuff or sorry, backtrack up under because i'm already wrong. IT has wifi as one option or matter over the red. So like that, you can choose either of those.
So if you go with wifi, it's gonna directly through the quick set APP do all that stuff. Or if you want to use matter, apple home, all of those things, you can connect you with matter of your thread. And that is the part that i'm excited about.
There have been so few matter over thread or even just the red smart locks take home to market. We've covered red a few for like your into your doors, like the thorough one that we had just talked about. So there's a few of them, but there's not that many.
So I think that's going to be pretty awesome. Other stuff is going to your pretty standard features, right? Insides get a kind of chunky looking battery compartment outside facing.
You have a touch pads. You can use the code to get in or you can use no apple home, the matter quicks that up, everything like that to automate unlock. But you pretty, pretty standard, easy to and still luck.
I'm glad I don't know if IT feels like a sudden burst in the last year. So of smart locks, they just feel Normal and ubiquity. Now I even just installed one at my mother's place, got her a ara you fifty at a pretty good discounter in the amazon deal days or whatever. And it's heavy duty.
Even the box like it's a little box with the key and IT and IT felt like IT weight forty pounds because it's like this heavy duty lock in IT and I I hold at all up no issues, just connected straight on network that even really need um the epic set for the set up. And then now it's just a home key compliant lock with the keypad if we want to do that kind of stuff. Just so handy like all of these things this quick that hello looks similar.
Nature just has a spot for a key if you're want to use a fiscal key. But you can also set up everything else here. Um the matter over thread is important um for future proofing IT and making IT Better for certain kinds of network.
So just I am happy there is so much variation in so many options, especially win the you're in the home, something especially like your front door. I think if you're not a homo or maybe you don't realize the front door is the first thing people see. So a lot of people take pride and choosing exactly how those stores are gona look and be designed.
And you don't want some big, fat, ugly, smart lock on there. You want us to blindin with your aesthetic and your design, especially if you don't want you to look techy, right? So it's nice to see more of these kinds of locks.
Answer doing well, continue with the lock news. Ecb has announced a partnership with us, a blue who makes yale and August products, so they have a new integration where you can pull up your ecospace current cameras and then wait from that live view. You can go head and unlock the door if you have a compatible life.
I enabled yale smart walk. So great here. I love you. I love this simplicity, especially for people who are in the eoe space. This is all well and good.
My only problem is I don't anna start going too much down this path where everybody needs to have one on one integrations with each other. So we dangerous. And if he .
did this, we have home kit. We have elected like, k pick one of these. No major things.
This, this is what happened before. I even know my brain went somewhere and I didn't give me an answer. But this has happened before.
I feel like in tech so many times where we have these larger ecosystems and then people start going to do these private back door or handshakes. And it's like it's really cool if you use those devices in that equipment. But now I have to open the ecole APP to control my August lock of ice like I get the integration and that school. But this is a solve problem, focus on, you know, this wider ecosystem is getting all of that together. That's my thing.
I agree. It's one of those things like, yes, IT is good and I don't want to downplay that, right? Like August and yellows are very common. So IT IT isn't easy integration there in this easy benefit for all of those people that are especially in the ego b space.
But what we start running into is anyone who who really wants and they say anyone, I mean, like the companies that are trying to control too much of IT. And ecb, like their products, we're together. Fantastic, cally, and there are some the highest integrations that are out there, very apple like I love that you can see their doorbell on their thermostat like stuff like that is fantastic.
But now we're getting in to, okay, allow tried to do this, brilliant, tried to do this, sonos and lutrin and they all I have to announce individual partnerships with every single brand to bring those things together. And it's going to get complicated very fast. Like you said, apple home matter, these things that thus to solve that.
But what then what you have to do with that point is you have to have ever have to have that matter in book lock, which eventually will happen. And then the ecb APP has to be a matter controller APP. Like be able to view all your matter, accessories, everything and then pull them in into IT that way. So IT is possible, but I know we're not there yet. So maybe this is just another staff absolution, but it's nice if you fall into that camp .
IT just turns to do a roof gold bert machine. I've remember the reason why a lot of these standards started arriving, why we needed a smart homes standard and why we needed home kit was because in the dark times, the before times, you, in order to do anything where you connected in mutio devices together, you would have an ad for your smart light and up for your dialog and that for your camera and that for your thermostat, you tied altogether with an eft automation that had to go through a back door.
A P, I, where you get a API key from a network connected, uh, playing on A A APP store that you pay for through a website. Just endless madness is no nobody on earth ever wanted to do that, not even the nerds. It's just got exhAusting.
So having all these things connected and communicate under one roof was so exciting because we don't have to do IT anymore. And regular people that aren't teckel can just go set IT up one button pair, add IT to the APP. Now it's there in all communicates, you can set up automated all within the APP.
And now it's like we're cycling back out wards where, well, if you want to do this is very specific thing, you'll need the ecole up because right now, what's like a home kit like that would be different if this exist. But in home kit, if you open a home kit, secure video camera feed like from your um e cob camera, whatever whatever is home kit compliant in that feed, you can see homework IT compatible controls for that room, that cameras in for those accessory. So you can see the smart lock and so need this integration.
I can open my log attack door door bell for the front door, and see a controller for my door, front door, my front porch light and my front door lock on the camera feed as a control, so they even need that special integration. So I know I just don't understand what they're doing here. What's the purple?
I mean, not everyone is in the apple space. I mean, that's a realization that we have. But I am a good smaller and I don't know how much Better is IT in any of the other ones, a more accessories that work, but the .
google has to have a similar like I don't know google home, but I would have to assume they have a similar system like I just what are you doing? Like what's the purpose of this, I guess, creating your own ecosystem. I don't think there's an any danger of this blowing up or anything is just if more apps and companies start doing this, like, okay, now I need my special I kia controller to do this special thing with this particular component. Oh, but this new partnership over here opened up and it's really cool and it's just you you start with two standards to end up with forty and becomes another issue.
Okay, this next one, i'm pretty excited about going to spend on a minute on IT because he is a man safe charger. But I think this is so cool. This thing went viral through like the apple space.
IT was all over tiktok, all over her twitter. Everyone's keeking out about this stand by dock for iphones. And IT was designed by, I think, overwork, and by one other person has got you.
One got you. Jen, i'm not sure how to pronounce the name, so i'm sorry. But either way, this thing is super cool so it's inspired by deear born and IT looks very cool.
It's just a lootie retta a ARM cock, right? And yet put your iphone into IT in IT like completely covers the screen of IT i'll like around the edges, so just perfectly slots in there. IT just fits in wonderful night. So IT looks like a seamless display for your phone. And how do you know that?
How do you get your phone out? Do you shake, pick IT up?
And oh no, yes, no. There's actually a little button on the top, a little recess. And when you go, you go to like take your phone right and as you approach IT your Thomas in the front and four fingers on the top, you push your four fingers down and the jets, your phone and IT just tills forward, write under your thun and .
you can pick IT up and go. So like A A set player.
I guess maybe I can also do this video. I mean, I in everyone else, the show is in the show notes.
but possibly and see audio happens sudden inly. There's also an .
apple watch spot built into IT too. So your apple watch goes yeah your apple or know your airports can go around on the top and right where where apple watch too, but you say your airports and they just slide down the back and then hit the charger and just locked into place and start charging off your apple watch pot. Everything about this I love, except I don't have a three d printer. I'd actually talked.
let's what s is for someone to make IT and despair. E from esc.
They are there is a bunch on esc. And I had not done IT. And then I had actually talked to Patrick o.
Neill, which if no one knows who he is, he created allow clip. I think he was one of people who created oo clip that was snap on lenses. And now he's been making this.
If you seen this before west, this is called the jura clip, ju R A for airports and IT clips into the USB c port. He made IT for the old ones with lightning. And there were so much demand that they, like, insisted he make a new and for the USB c models, I love this.
I keep this on my airports. Clips IT wherever on the side of your bagging thing like that. And he holds on IT really strong, really good clip there. And it's just go into the port.
A language guy been using the language hole like ke.
Well, especially for airports, sport.
there's no lane hole, I guess. So we'll see. I have IT right here.
Mine is this. It's a thun size layard. See, like it's literally this little finger guy. Because the way I do IT explains this on the main show, my airports are loops through the bell loop, and so the belt is tucked into the is the access, right? And so this sits in my pocket. And anytime I in an airport T I just take IT on my pocket about an airport d and I have an airport d on my air like three seconds and I just hovering down and yes, I I understand you can get that around your bet come out no um it's on .
the loop and goes in my pocket.
Just no, that's clever. I like they use the port like you said for the airports, four, without the, without the line, your connection like that makes sense. But anyway, like this, i'm looking at the video of this guy. I like the concept that is kind of a large device.
I do like clock is first to .
be yeah like this is this is cool I I love the creativity people have with these things like this is what I always wanted for mag safe and things like IT. And now stand by, give me all the cool little gadgets and little things to do with my stuff like it's so it's so fun.
Well, my whole point with jumping into other clip, and Patrick, is that the new at jura clips are actually three d printed. He's got like this cool carbon one that has like a shimmer effect to IT. They looked awesome, but he offered to print one for me.
So he, he was trying to print one up for me so I could have IT. And now they actually offer them for free order. You can just buy one now directly from the creators.
You can get IT over on overwork, which is e. Ark, by the way, the other poor in your black or White forty nine books. And they've actually redesigned IT to work with a case, like one of apples, maxic cases, or without a case, and multiple sizes.
So IT supports everything from iphone twelve old day up to one iphone sixteen pro max. Yet pick your phone, you pick the weather without a case. And good to go.
I think this is super cool. If anyone else is as smitten with this as I am. The appropriate with the link in the shown nuts.
I like, I do like the little clock stand and I did watch the video IT doesn't ject kind of like a cassel player just little bit kind of throws .
IT out and which is kind .
of people um I don't know I I would like maybe a black one I like they demonstrated IT in the video of dropping the airports s down the back and IT getting magnetically caught by the little platform really yeah just interesting little stuff.
But i'm also just kind of a fan of the free floating max safe charges like I have the no mad charger my death can I have the twelve south, the popular when I was really what it's called, try something from my bedside table. And those worked really well. But I do like the retroactive alling of this one. Now only I could convince my phone to consistently, always show the cracked standby mode for whatever device i'm using, because IT seems to just be random at this point.
Oh, that doesn't n me. IT does support the new maxie poc because the new maxa pock is a larger to does fit both of those. So I still .
have not tried twenty five. What max safe charging.
it's very nice. Okay, next of the news controller for home kit, the APP has been updated version seven point two. And there's a lot of new things that are all taking advantage of features in IOS eighteen, their new controls into widget, run a workflow, open a floor plan or display a TV route directly from controls into widget, which also then we work for like you're action about lock screen, anything like that and there's television supports.
This is new when I was eighteen. So you can control TV within controller for home kit. Their new control elements, virtual switches, redesigned workflows, support for dark intended APP icons and more.
So if you use this, there is a big update out. And if be I don't use IT sounds like it's probably a good time to go and help on that and try IT out. That is a pretty nice out.
I haven't really been dealing with a lot with the third party home kit. Pse, but now attempted because of things like control center. You can just start now.
IT feels like IT happens in faces, but the the latest IOS updates, allowing for the super customizable controls and or opens up the possibility for vastly more third party APP just go downadup unch of third party APP. So you never even have to open. You can just have a button from that APP in your control center do something. And I think that's kind of cool.
great. Okay, we have more to talk about, new router stuff, new icemaker hands on and more before we get into IT. If take a break and think our sponsor for the episode IT is shop fy. We have talked about them in many times, and I still love them. And so much we have all these brains that are launching and that bring us cool products, but they are not able to bring us cool products without the technology and the platform behind them.
And as where sharp fy comes into play, be able to bridge that gap for new businesses, existing businesses, big businesses and small businesses, they are able to help you feel retail store, online store, who went to the shift store in store pick ups, all of that stuff, single inventory management system across all these platforms. They handle all of this or you no matter the size. Your business, which I think is what is especially impressive is IT is a platform they can grow with you and keep offering additional features.
And we've really been added lately adding all this new stuff going like a eye features that are going to help improve your conversions. You have a shop hay, which boost conversions up to fifty percent on checking like that. That is amazing to me.
Plus it's supports like apple friend, things like apple pay and there is a shop APP. So when you go to check out from there, people can then kick you out to shop up and track their order from the filled to actually delivered to the door. And then they can rate their products on your site and find and discover more, whether they're finding your businesses or other businesses.
I love IT there's so much to love up about a sharp fine, maybe haven't already upgrade your basis and get the same cheko process that no mad moment Albert rothes rocklin in so many more use. So set up for one dollar permanent ent trial here at shoplifted dot coma slash home kit all lower case. Good to shoplift y dot com, a slash home kid to upgrade your selling today shop fy that come slash home kit.
Okay, so this is just a quick revision. Ego actually talked about them in the last episode, had those robots that we know, just my go league herself while ego accent over a statement. So I just won't include this. And they give their point of view to all of this.
So basically, here's what says in the past few weeks, we've heard your concerns with the security, our products and we want you didn't know that your safety and privacy, our top priorities, that's from David chain q those chair and cy, you of ego bags. We're committed to making sure you feel confident and secure when using our devices. Since August twenty twenty four, we've been hard at work, strengthened our security systems.
We enhanced servers, apps and continuing to roll out updates, including new firm where for the two x one and two twenty series to be released uh, this november as well as and ensuring the rest of product is treated with the same security scrutiny and protections cybersecurity is ever evolving in. Somewhere wee were constantly upgrading our systems to stay ahead of new threats. We also encourage you to take simple steps like rail, obtain your passwords to help keep your devices secure.
At equifax, we're dedicated to transparency and collaboration. We're working closely with our industry with industry experts, said higher standards for safety and will continue to keep you informed ming about what we're doing to protect your privacy. So i'd that for what it's worth, if you were worried about that's what they ve been doing is similar to what we talked about that last episode, but that their stay in in full on what they're doing to make sure everything is locked down.
It's important. Remember, that was any vulnerability with these kinds of products. It's not that because is a vulnerable, you're going to get attacked usually, especially in situations that require extra effort from the hacker or reason to actually do the hacking.
Uh, there is not like adding something to a botnet, right? That's pretty a passive of an attack. This is taking control of a robot so they can see your home. That usually requires some premeditated of action.
They have to want to target you ah so I like this was never, I don't think, meant to be a big freak out because the reason why these things were hacking the first places, because these White hat hackers wanted to prove just how bad these security vulnerabilities were with them for this stuff, con conference or whatever. And uh, I did want to say the quote from them was funny. And the security, their security talking about ecover x was really, really, really, really bad.
So what really is from the security researcher, it's one of those things where if you have any go back vacuum, it's not like you need to go tossed in the garbage. I'm glad that their stances change because I think originally this stance wasn't whatever uh but enough press and publicity is gotten ten around to saying no actually um we want you to fix this and other committed to fixing IT so again, don't go through away your ecover c vacuum. Be aware that this is an issue but they're also actually dressing is so that's .
good absolutely. And again, basic sensibilities here on passwords to reset them, use a password manager, keep them all unique, two factor auth indication. You can all the basic stuff that we should all be doing right now. I know we slack on IT sometimes that happens, but IT is still important to do. Reasons like this.
have a robust wife. I network with strong passwords, use reuters that let you choose which devices connect the internet, where is not. There's so many ways you can protect yourself just randomly getting around or and using the default password, yet not so much. Be a little bit proactive on these things.
I don't know that was supposed be a segway or not, but IT is a wonderful segway as we were talking about rose to wifi west. I am so excited for this. I am so so excited for this western and I were actually talking like a week or two ago about like wifi routers and both of us upgrading our homes to wifi seven.
And I had mentioned at the time that I was looking at euro and I had been currently using euro. West was a little hesitant just because of the amazon highs here, which is completely understandable. But I am now I am so excited about this.
Okay, this is called the ero. What is the euro outdoor seven IT is an outdoor ero or router that is absolutely insane. So what are going to be forming or something?
Because the problem with outdoor routers is they try to send the signals in the space, and that's why you can't really get IT across the art.
It's so it's like art on the front, like IT can be positioned on your wall and it's got like A A curve of front that projects straight forward. Verses like up in the space. They say that gives you fifteen thousand square are feet to coverage.
And very here at half hour back in the yard, this will go. One of the things that I always struggle start with is that darn chicken cube and getting me support for cameras back there. And I want IT, so something like this to extend wife I outside is huge.
We also have my grandparents and house that has like a pool in an outdoor area. There's no wifi out there and there's not a great cell reception. So something like this is he.
And yes, there other one's out there, but they're kind of middle in, in my opinion, and get kind of expensive and a little bit overboard. And this is just seems so ideal. They have done rigorous ous testing.
They say if I P sixty sixty rated and they can Operate in negative forty degrees to one hundred and thirty degrees, they say they've tested this in wind tunnels, in the heat of arizona, in commercial refrigerators and on hot reaches up to one hundred miles hour winds too. They've done all this testing here. So IT has a two and have given bit eaten airport that supports poe.
So if you want to run this with a poe cable, you can do that to be a completely hidden or run IT over that. And just ht us the outside of your house, IT easily connects to your existing euro system. So you can just extend that mention network outward.
It's going to be shipping here in november and it's three hold on, many five, nine numbers three, forty eight, nine or even get IT with a poe 3 outdoor poe plus powered after for four hundred。 I am just i'm so excited by this. This is IT would solve so many problems for a lot of people.
Yes, it's a little bit crazy, but not really. At the same time, if you look at a good wifi seven router, you're easily looking at three or four hundred dollars for inside your home. So this is basically within that realm for outside yeah it's funny .
if i've been shopping around and the Price disparity is is wild because you can look at two different wifi, seven systems from the same company. And one is a sixteen hundred dollars for a three pack and one is five hundred dollars for a three pack. You're like, what could possibly in there? Both wifi seven.
So obviously, they're doing something crazy with the different technologies internal to them processing power mostly probably the chip sets, but still, my goodness, triple the Price. Still both wifi seven. It's madness. Meanwhile.
i'm over here again and people don't know guy know this, what you and you run into all the time. And we're trying to talk to people about what what router something to get. And like if you look at their they go to say wifi seven and even if they say, like their cover geria, they look so similar.
But like you said, be processing power, which makes a huge difference. Like I tried to wifi 6e router and I got way Better performance wifi six years and faster。 But the processing on them is significant quicker. On top of that, you have like how many and tennis are in there, the shape of them, like how much design and ever went into that kind of stuff. There's a lot of parts here that make up for that Price severity. And if you have like vast network, like I know west, I got pretty quick internet here, their houses, there's a difference if you're going to like fifty makers or one hundred magas, you may be not nosing a big difference. But anything above that, you are going to noise the impact of most cheap wrs.
I've finally got fiber in my home. So I i've got this simultaneous gig up and down. And yeah, I am definitely in the market. I need to look into work is running the links, this system and it's just unfeeling worse about IT every day just because like i'm trying to set up home kit devices and euro just hates its customers or something because I can not not euro links this I can not go in and say, hey.
I'm setting up this logic tech circle view, and IT demands a two point five gig hertz connection for me to set up the internet over IT. Let me, I don't know, turn off five bigger hurts momentarily or change something about IT. nope. Can do IT zero, just no options.
The only way I figured out how to do IT was to go to the website, right? The IP addressed thing you can do to access your router, go in a toga menu, go into the menu, and then split the wifi into two different names, and then change the password for the five gig hurts connection so that everything disconnects from IT and forces you to be two point five giga hurts temporarily. So I can add the camera and then we change back the password.
The only way I could it's just why, like, you know, links, this is these big companies. Why is IT so hard for me to manage in networks that way? But also .
the other well.
also the other direction, why logitech can I only set up something that is a modern camera on a two point five giga hurts connection? And why can I just set up? right? I've been having some weird homemade .
issues and issues. I think it's a cost saving thing that we see. Almost all smart hom devices require that thing.
You mean two point four, right? All require a two point four because they want to support the five. Giga hurts and it's dumb. And I had right. The only thing I had an issue with this was over my parents house ten years ago, sending up a hunter fan that had built a home kit.
And they like a neck year router and IT would not IT would not work until I actually gave the dedicated in network and went through all the same hassle that you just did. But i've been running links as here. I have like their wife. I six routers. They're like developed pouters, the three of those in my house. I had those up until only like a couple years ago and I never had those issues and I set up a lot of smart amic sensors and like most require the two point four but i've never run into that with links is ah i'm sure that was an issue for you.
I'm not sure what the issue is. IT says only have access to mix network settings. I can't change IT in the APP something weird broken somewhere.
But in any case, i'm i'm indefinitely the market for new writers and the heroes look good. I mean, I like euro. I use europe before they were purchased by amazon.
And just at a principle, I decided I didn't want to after they were purchased. I know amazon has little to no influence on them. They've let the Operators independent company.
I just still don't necessarily want to own an amazon product and especially won that as as important as running my home network through that's my own you know problems don't let that influence your decisions but um I am looking into different things. But honestly, I feel like all these companies are just kind of, I mean, ticket to leave IT. I'm looking into tp ink. I'm looking again at links, this and these other things and this just I wish apple was in reuters, honestly, because I would just make my life so much easier.
I would just go by the apple products, but here .
we are. Apple would.
But this this is so club, and i'm very excited for this. So one hundred percent agree. I want to take action of the router space because I think there's a lot they can do on the smart home front, on the matter front, on you know cloud backup s remote access to drives that are connected day like there's a bunch of things that we could talk about there.
Yeah.
these new era are tempting for sure.
Like I have an outdoor space that I could use wifi and like it's definitely a good use case for IT, uh, just would have to basically move everything over their ero to do IT, but I think ah they would be worth that. Like I think they're good company is interesting seeing what they're accomplishing the space versus maybe other companies just making the same router but new, new spec. I guess I am impressed .
that you've been able to keep so much separate from amazon like they they have very little innocent in to the amazon space over. Then you can like log you in with your amazon account, which is great, but they have kept so remarkably kind of separate. Like ring, I feel like is amazon like they just feel like one in the same.
But euro still feels like IT is a separate company to me, even though it's owned by them. And I have tried, we tests how many routers around here. I've got these orbes and values and equally like all this stuff sitting around that I test all the time and the earth .
is dressed worth is not like they're snooping. They're not snooping on your data. It's a safe company is a safe out to use is just for some reason, I don't know, I go through this with a lot of different things like using google.
I don't prefer to use google uh for their because their company to stand whatever is just going na do another podcast westly. But like it's just yeah I would not not consider ero is just definitely one of those where unless it's like if IT is the only option or only offering something, I would still go for IT. But as long as there are other options that are available, I probably looked to those first, but that's my own personal thing.
Yeah, they ve ve always just worked really well for me. And I do think they have robust privacy standards and everything in there. I met the team back at ww dc.
I'm pretty short, like twenty sixteen or something like that. And they were so passive about reuters and to see how much they've grown in done of these things really impressed by me. okay.
Last bit, news here or not, news. This is a hands on, and i'm interested to here west thoughts orders. But we're going to talk about that.
Gov, a eemakh we have talked about on the podcast before, which is goes at countertop, hello, all IT icemaker that can soon be integrated into matter and into the home map. That has not happened yet. So IT still works exclusively through the gov.
APP. And of course, i'm going update you guys win that after that happened because I will be really excited to talk about IT. But just my experience with this so far for the past week, really easy to set up.
Easy just takes IT right out of the box. They actually smart shipping the box that comes in is its package aging box. So there's no like extra card boarders and wasted. But IT comes right out, plug in your counter.
I rust off all the internal, there's new the shelf in everything, clean, everything off very quick, took IT, put in in, basically turned on, press the button and and set up in the goal by APP, all like we asked to your wifi. If you use the goal by APP before good to go, you can choose three different pen sizes for your ice, like small, medium and large. And then you just turn me on and IT makes nine cubes, I think in like six or seven minutes like that's IT.
You can want to leave IT off and then like going to be making a nice coffee, turn on the icemaker and get a pile vice. And fifty minutes or something. I could also see doing that like as a schedule thing, like when this does work with home kit, leave IT off so you're not wasting at electricity.
And then when it's time, like in the morning, you have your morning routine automatic turn on and pop out a bunch of ice that you can make your ice coffee, which I think would be very handy to do. So that'll be there. You get alert.
So itll telly, when it's pool, when it's low on water, all that kind of stuff, the way all these kind of countertop icemaker work, for the most part, is there's an icemaker on the top on total nobs stick out, they freeze the water around them. And then once they're big enough, they slide off and they're pushed down a little shoot into a basket at the bottom. That basket has a invented like a just open basket.
And as they melt, they go back and into the bottom, which is the water reserve war. Water gets sucked back up, turning into more cube. They go down, they mt.
Make him in the more cubes so they could keep repurposing that water until you take the cubes out and refit with additional water. So IT just keeps going and going, going as much as you needed to friends that have character by eemakh, they let there's go around the clock. But of course, you could automate IT if you need to do that.
There is a built in light you can barely even see IT, so whatever, but you can turn that honor off. It's not super small, but IT is comparable to any other ones that i've seen that go in your counter, relatively compact for machine that does what IT does. Our fridge doesn't make ice, so we don't have ice in our house without manually freezing much cues and putting him in.
I like this way. I think this totally worth IT. I love IT. So far, i'm excited for the home kid integration. I don't think that Price is too bad on IT. Everything about this thing has me sold in the past week of using IT.
Yeah, this is a clever and I mean, if you think about that, we've talked about IT before for a while. I guess the last couple, you know I don't know, thirty years appliance to seem to start merging. And we wanted more things to be more things, microwave stoves, you and icemaker fridge and all these like fancy appliances a that can just do everything, wash your driers that are one unit, just make everything.
One machine, I don't know, washed driver of dishwasher and IT sounds good in practice, but IT in reality. IT leads to more complication, more expensive parts, more expensive repairs. And if you everyone upgrade, it's gona cost you ten times as much, then just replacing one of the components of the machine. So in this case, I could easily see, get the cheaper fridge. You know, if you go without the icemaker, if you get just for germany or for each or combo there, so much cheaper, especially without all the smarts and all the technology.
All there are nonsense going on and forgeries or these days, and then just separate out icemaker, put IT on your counter top, put IT somewhere um or maybe you have um a separate from your kitchen, maybe a completely separate part of your house, right maybe have a ten downstairs in your kitchen upstairs and you want an ice maker for your a little wet bar that you have downstairs or something like there's so many ways that something like this can be really useful and really interesting. I love the idea, especially since you're making kind of what you'd call gore my ice, you're making fancy ice with this icemaker rather than. The usual nonsense you have to pay more for that infancy forgeries, ors that again escalates the surprise of this larger plants you're not replacing very often.
But you know your icemaker that goes on a counter top gets a new fancy upgrade. It's not know you are not spending thousands of dollars to go buy a new frigga or you can just go replace the ice maker if you want to. So separating components out like this, I think, makes a lot of sense, especially now that everything's getting smarter and more complex. H I I like the idea of this is a school, especially with the home kit integration in coming.
yeah I mean, we have a smart fridge, it's a hamstring smart village and get the big touch display on IT. And I really, really like that. My wife decorates at every month and has a bunch of really nice features to IT.
So appreciate that in the fridge. But what I didn't know when we bought our fridge is that icemaker are like the number one thing that breaks in riches. And hs brought .
their very complex months.
And right now, we can even open like the trade to remove IT, and they get going to end up being a service call. And I can spend more money on a service call, then I would do literally buy this icemaker.
We had um our icemaker and our door break because the water dispenser is one of the ones where the icemaker in the back of water sponsors in the front, where um we would have kids come and use the water dispenser in a way that wasn't correct, I suppose, and that would allow water to splash into the back into the components of the the dispenser and IT shorted out the entire door and caused the ice marketer.
Like it's just the silliest stuff that could you would think of to break these things. I I mean, before I I had to hire someone to come fixed me be an electrician as playing with that. So I dismantle this whole thing, took out the motor example of everything was working as just like, what is wrong with the same a stupid little controller wire in the door broke and and it's just like, come on, like of all the things. So like with you, like their complex or they break easily, maybe maybe it's a little bit too much to ask to have a icemaker in your fridge door anyway.
Well, these things are going to run you one eighty for this, but IT looks like like honey and a few other things have discounts on IT that take you down like twenty five books. So one fifty for this, one fifty I don't think is bad. My plane, like you said, is if I have in my fridge fix, this is going to go down on stairs into our bar and the same just filled up with .
bottled water and cleaner and nicer, right? Like your eyes, you don't realize that yeah yeah. Like the ice maker in your fridge or freezer.
Come on, listeners, one's less time. You like empty that out. Actually clean that bucket. I never, probably never. I'm going to say it's just, you know, these things is so easy to forget about until you sit down and really think about IT.
I understand. Cool while that rounds up at this episode. Thank you. As for joining me, if anyone is interest in what we talked about today, then you quick that hello, then you stand by dog for iphone.
